" WENT TWICE IN2MONTHS AND BOTH TIMES WE FELT SIGNLED OUT AND ROBBED.. "

we went summer just gone. It was good for the first two days as we had never been before so everything was new to us, the kids enjoyed the entertainment though we thought there wasn't enough for adults to do. By the third day we had spent hundreds of pounds just in the arcades as the entertainment was very repetitive so it seemed like we had seen it thousands of times before and the kids did not want to stay for it as there was no seating so we had to stand at the back where they could not see the stage. The second time we went was for Halloween just gone, we thought it would be a great idea to take our son to this as halloween is a fun event. Well lets just say it would have been more fun if i had stayed at home and took him trick or treating. The whole weekend was rubbish! we thought that because everyone was dressed up (the day before halloween) that the actual day would be jam packed with excitement. To begin with we were told we could enter our room at 230pm but when did we were shouted at abusively by the room service staff that we were not allowed in until 430pm! it was cold and all we had wanted to do was to put our bags away and get a jacket out for our son, but even when we explained this to the staff who originally sent us there, they said it was their mistake and nothing they could do!! our sons coat went MISSING from our accomodation although me and my partner were the only ones with a key (accept the staff at butlins whom would be able to access it with their own)and when we approached the staff regarding this we was told to buy him another one out of our spending money and they will TRY and refund us, however, when we explained that it wasn't just one but TWO of his coats that had gone missing, they couldn't give us a good enough answer as to what they was going to do. They then had the cheek to ask us "why would we take his coats?" which of course we didn't have the answer to but how did two coats go missing from the same room in the matter of us leaving it on his bed for the period of about a couple of hours? we wrote a complaint regarding this and are yet to wait for a reply! They allowed us to borrow a coat from lost property (which may have been another child from the same holiday's coat) and when we returned was told we could keep it! This is disgusting behaviour as we felt we had robbed another child of their coat aswell but had no choice as it is the begining of winter and we had far to travel without EITHER of my sons original coats!! The day of halloween we got dressed up expecting a good night with our son...the advertised a haunted house on the resort but once we got there was told that it was only for kids aged over 9 which did not apply to our son who is a small 7, this spoilt his night already. We then decided to take him to the trick or treat tent in which we lined up for about 45 mins to get 1 ten pence replica chomp bar!! The shows that were on were the same as the last time we went and was crap ideas for halloween shows even the childen on the complex wern't impressed! due to this we were back in our accomodation by ten o'clock both friday and saturday! On sunday they tried to do a fright night in the fair but all it included was the rides being open until nine (only the umbrellas, dodgems, the carousel and another ride) and the staff wearing costumes, so once again most our moeny was spent in the arcades trying to entertain ourselves. There aren't any free activities, when my son saw bugs bunny walkin around he was shouted at when he ran upto him for a cuddle as the staff are really grumpy! if u want a picture with any characters they will not allow you to take pictures with your own camera, you have to pay for them to take one with their camera even though we payed nearly 400 pound on the holiday and thats not even half of what we spent when we got there!!! In total this holiday cot us a total of over 1000 pounds and we feel robbed as it did not pay for anything extremely exciting! we will NEVER return there again as it is a total waste of time and money, they DO NOT have the customers best interest at hand and they do not care about any queries you may have. Th icing on the cake was the fact that I had payed for an item on m card when i was there and they had told me my card had voided then put it through again. It wasn't until i returned home and went to use my card i had realised that they haad actually charged me twice for the same item and not told me! When i called them and explained all the problems we had faced that one weekend, we whre told that we'd be put through to a thousand people who still could not help us, they took my details and my partners details and said they would call back with information on how to redeem my money i waited up until late that night and heard nothing. I then called them back the next morning and i am still awaiting their reply. I beleive they are thiefs, they do not like blame for any of their faults, even machines in the arcades are faulty and when you tell them your told there's nothing they can do. So in conclusion butlins do not actually know what they are doing, they do not cater to everyone and I wish i had never gone back. i advise anyone who may consider this place to please consider somewhere else.

" Fantastic "

I read loads of online reviews before I went on my holiday to Butlins in Bognor Regis and was dreading every aspect of it. I was travelling with my 3 year old son, my 2 year old son and my aunt who had come along to help me.
We arrived early, and parked a stone's throw from the Skyline Pavillion. The children were able to play in the soft play area, go on rides, etc from the second we arrived which after a 3 hour car journey was great for them to let off some energy.
We were able to book in and locate our standard rooms - I had booked standard as only those and deluxe offer a bath. Looking through the window we were surprised and relieved to see that despite being told we had bunk beds in the second room there was actually twin beds. Once we could access the rooms I was again very pleased that, despite reading horrific reviews, the rooms were clean, the linen spotless, the bathroom a good size - and our one issue was dealt with within 2 hours to our satisfaction.
The food in the restaurant was of an acceptable standard - the only night the children didn't eat their meal was when I gave them sausage and chips - other than that all pasta, rice and vegetable dishes were eaten rapidly. My eldest son loved the little dishes of mini donuts so was really pleased they were a nightly feature. Breakfast was easy to accomodate them with too.
Lunchtimes were easily dealt with - Burger King kids meals the usual £3.29, the on site pub did Annabel Karmel food, we didn't even get round to trying the pizzas but they looked good.
The toy shop was excellent value, the gift shop reasonably priced, prices consistent across the site on soft drinks etc. Our only complaint was that Londis didn't give enough notice that they would be closing early on one night for a stock take.
The red coats were all very friendly and excellent with the children. Bobs Tea Party was great and we appreciated them getting Bob out to pose with my youngest who had slept through the entire thing once it was over. Photo opportunity galore with lots of meet and greets with Barney, Pingu etc but you could take a photo at the same time if you could resist paying for the professional ones - but keep your receipt and you get a discounted price after the first picture. The characters would come out after the shows and do walkabouts so lots of opportunities for cuddles and the such.
The shows were great and we were so exhausted we didn't make it to Centre Stage after a day of rides and shows and an evening of singing and dancing with Billy Bear and Barney.
For a family with young children it was fantastic and we can't wait to go back next year - although I am thinking of upgrading to deluxe - so I can have a shower instead of sharing a bath ;)
Please don't be scared by what you read - as long as you are expecting long days of excited children and a guaranteed night's sleep then you won't be disappointed.

" RIP OFF £10.00 FOR ONE GO ON A CLIMBING WALL "

Have been to butlins many times before we are premier members this is the first time we have been dissapointed its getting more like center parks only more expensive.
You have to pay for nearly all activities, climbing wall £10.00 a go, go-carts £4.50, trampoline £4.50 etc.. only thing thats free is the pool and play area.
With 4 children its now far too expensive as they all want to go on all the rip off activities and the many many slot machines and ticket games that you win a totally rubbish prize for all your tickets worse that pound shop toys complete waste of money.
Gold accomadation way too small compared to the silver terrace apartments really cramped could not even walk round the bed when the cot was in the room had to jump from one side to the other, never cleaned in the 2 weeks we were there, bedding not changed and had to ask for bins to be emptied and for towels, not worth the extra money for gold upgrade at all, was quiter than the silver apartments but other than that not worth it.
The swimming pool is hard to get into now due to them letting in so many day stay visitors had to queue right into the arcades to get in and could not even get in at all for the first 3 days of our break, water very cold for children, babies lips turned blue not ideal, shuts early at 5pm stayed open on 2 evenings for an inflatable fun evening this cost £10.00 a child so more expense.
Outdoor pool not there anymore only a small outdoor play area and outdated fun fair with silly height restrictions, 8 year old needed an adult to go on a silly little spinning boat ride, everything else you have to pay for, crazy golf, bowling, even the childrens nursery cost a fortune, so really not a cheap holiday at all.
Food in the coral beach restaurant was very repetitive and expensive compared to previous years, just the same thing every night with hardly any different options, very school dinner like, potatoes rock hard never cooked, all you can eat and kept clean staff friendly.
The Sun & Moon pub had lovely food but very expensive for a starter/main and one drink each for 2 people was £48.00 so a one off meal could not afford that everynight especially taking the kids aswell.
To get into the shows and actually get a seat you need to queue really really early, even then people just stand in front of you as its far too overcrowded now especially now the new hotel is up, there just is not enough room for all the guests you are just crammed in everywhere thats when you can actually get in.
X-factor and britains got talents acts are good but only sing about 3 songs we thought they would be on for a whole hour so a bit dissapointing, day time and evening shows very repetative just show the same ones over and over again every day for peek season found this to be strange, shows are good but once you have seen them once you dont really want to see them again over and over again.
Michael jackson, madonna and george michael tribute acts all excellent but only show in reds which is the smaller venue so even harder to get seats, reds is also very outdated dirty and dingy in bad need of a make over, center stage is better but has a massive post right in the middle of the stage so blocks most of the stage no matter where you sit behind it or to the side the post is in the way.
Beach is right outside the camp has some stones but then lovely sand when the tide is out, a nice little market and town center right off the beach spent more time out of the camp than on it due to everything being so expensive now.
Not a cheap holiday anymore especially when you have kids who want to go on all the activities that cost way too much money, either take a fortune in spending money or spend the whole holiday saying no to dissapointed children, i have 3 old enough for the climbing wall thats £30.00 just for that alone for one go totally discusting prices.
For the amount of money it costs to go to butlins now these activites should be included it is not fair for parents to have to pay rip off prices for everything on the site but then i suppose someone has to pay for the new hotel seems its the current guests.

" Nowhere near as good as Minehead "

Previous reviewer is right............the place smells all the time and it ain't nice! The room (silver) was basic but clean as we'd expected but at Bognor you don't even get a loo-brush to use (yuk).
We went to Minehead last year and it was FANTASTIC - shabbier because it is due for a re-fit but we couldn't fault the holiday. Bognor is a LOT smaller. EVERY area is smaller including the pool so you feel like people are stood on your shoulders all the time. The food is not as well prepared. Because it is so small with everyone crammed in the queues are bad, really bad. Entertainment is pretty much the same as last year. The panto is the same story...........shame things like that couldn't have been altered. We will do Butlins again if my almost 7 year old is up for it again. But we will head for Minehead. It's an extra 2 hours drive but worth it.

Advice: West sussex? Do Arundel, Do Chichester. Do West Wittering beaches. Don't do Butlins.

Activities: MINEHEAD IS BEST

" Brilliant in every way "

I've heard so many people say that Butlins is just for small children, but after going to Bognor every year for over 13yrs, I'm still not sick of it. Butlins is a great place for kids, teenagers and adults. There's something for everyone. Whether it be the small rides or character shows for the kids, bowling or swimming for the teens or relaxing while your kids are being taken care of by the redcoats in the kids clubs, there's always something to do. I love Butlins so much that I'm going there in October for my 17th birthday and can't wait.

" Where can we sit?? "

This was our first time at Butlins. We were 3 adults and 2 children (8 and 11). The silver grade accommodation was better than expected, clean and apart from the very comfortable matress smelling smoky was good. The children enjoyed the facilities and there was plenty for them to do. The queues were not too long on the rides and no queues at the pool. The place was clean and not too crowded but I wonder what it will be like when the new hotel opens. I did hear though that some of the accommodation was to be demolished so maybe this will even out the numbers again.
My two main gripes were that everywhere you went you had to go through an arcade - too tempting for children with holiday money to spend. Then when it was time to collect their "prize" they had to queue to cash in the winning tickets and tokens and then queue again to choose a prize. Gave up in the end and went away empty handed as it was time for us to leave. Arcades can be a waste of money but to not even get a prize at the end of it is insulting.
My other gripe is the selfishness of other guests in bagging chairs. We ended up with just one chair for the 5 of us for a show in Reds one evening and no seats at all on the other evening. People were putting bags, coats, etc on chairs and even after 2 hours nobody had sat on the chairs. This should be policed more and if a chair is empty after the first 20 mins of letting people in it should be given up to people having to stand. I object to standing whilst a handbag or cardi has a seat!! At one of the shows for younger children there was not an empty table in Skyline Pavilion but each table only had one person sat at them saving seats for the rest of their group. If they can't be bothered to get there in a reasonable time why should the rest of us who arrive as a group have to stand?
We had a really good holiday though and will consider going again.

" Butlins - Family Week "

We went on one of the Half Term family breaks. 9 of us went (6 adults and three children with a 7 month old baby). Cot was delivered to the room and you have a fridge to keep bottles of milk in etc.
Great time had by all. We stayed in the Shoreline hotel really couldn't fault it at all (that's saying something!)The rooms were clean and the air conditioning was great.
The daytime entertainment, rides and shows were all enjoyed. It is so good for kids. The food is great. It you want healthy...... you can get it! Kids do not generally want that on holiday!! Public toilets were always clean.
The swimming pool is well supervised, how many people they let in at once is controlled.
Only complaint is that you still have to pay for some of the activities. That's not really fair when you have kids that want to go on everything (on the adults who may not have the money, or the kids)
Meals were reasonably priced. Medium breakfast was £4 and the drinks were well priced.
There is a supermarkedt for all the things you might forget! It also sells sandwiches and fruit etc.
Saying that we are all looking forward to next year.

Advice: Definately going back

Activities: Great evening entertainment

" what do you expect "

If you want a holiday that the kids will love then butlins is perfect. I must stress that the kids really need to be under ten to get the idea of what it's about. Not good for teenagers because butlins is for little children. Accomodation was clean and tidy but like i said before it's BUTLINS so dnt expect the hilton.

" fun on the cheap "

Have to say i was very impressed with butlins, we paid £134 for mid week stay in silver room.
Room was basic but fine for the money, only minor complaint was water pressure in shower was very low but it was hot and clean so still ok.
The room was two single beds, chest of drawers, tv and kettle - basic but ok. You don't get a fridge in room so brought a mini fridge in argos for £23 to take with us to store drinks.
Food was ok - self service bufft breakfast and dinner, eat as much as you want. Some days better than others but that is just personal taste. Ate loads at breakfast, skipped lunch, then back to buffet at night so didn't really spend any money on food.
Drinks prices are ok, as is the shop on site.
Loads to do for free on site and bognor regis just short walk out of park straight onto seafront.
Would go again and even the brochure price is good value.

Advice: visit littlehampton and brighton

" butlins holiday "

This is our third time at Butlins and we had a great time. They have made/are making some improvements to the childrens activities which i feel make there more to do for the 10 to 15 age group. We stayed in a Silver Plus self catering apartment and it was clean, modern and had everythin you could need. The beds were very comfortable, the furniture was fairly new and modern, as were the carpets, shower and general decor. Security and maintainence are fantastic as always and they are so quick to respond to any problems.
The pool complex is great and one of the highlights for the children. Titan is always great and my fav!! The redcoats were much better and around more this year, much much better, well done Butlins!!
We enjoyed it so much again this year that we have booked again for next year. We are going to stay at the shoreline and got a fantastic deal at the on site booking shop.
I would recommend Butlins.

" Depressing "

Worst holiday ever!
Room was filthy, food disgusting, swimming pool was freezing and most activities you had to pay for.
We left two days early as one of my children became ill, we think as a result of picking up a bug from the filthy accommodation.
Butlins is a complete joke I would recommend that anyone who can afford it should go to Centre Parcs instead.

Advice: Butlins is full of pikeys

" preety good break "

me and my family went to butlins in march for a weekend break, from friday (school day) to monday (school day). the break was themed around clowns it was fun because the kids could get involed in differrent activities, they did a clown show involing what the kids had learnt at the workshop they attended, they got a certificate for taking part and a few people including one of our family won a years membership of clowns internatinal. the shows at butlins were fantastic the best was circus hilarious. we went self catering and we went to a pizza restrant, i would deffinatly not recormend it, it was called papa john's the staff were increibly unhelpful it was a nightmere to get a pizza from there. the accomadtion we stayed in was silver plus, it was clean and big enough for us. as we were a family of 6 we were not able to stay in the shore line hotel because they haven't got rooms for more than 5 people. this short break cost a lot of money for what it was but the whole family enjoyed it.i would recormend this break but be prepaired because you pay a lot more than just the holidy. most red coats were friendly and helpful the swimming pool was great and the fun fair was nothing special. all in all it was 8/10. like to go again.

" what do you expect? "

Butlins. Well what do you think its' gonna be like.....The accommodation is clean but a little grotty (we went silver class don't you know?). Its relativeley cheap and people try their best. Its never gonna be a hands on hotel, its butlins. The kids will love it, It will cost you a small fortune if you let it. But if you know what to expect then you can enjoy it. Plan your day around things you want to do or see, clear off to Bognor, Chichester, Brighton or Portsmouth if its' all looking dull. The red coats try so hard, the entertainment is excellent (if you are 7)...and if you own a 7 year old you will appreciate that a happy 7 year old means a happy......older year old type parent. Butlins, i like it. Come the boys' 10th birthday we shall never visit ever ever again!

" why did i bother "

this was the big won we had the best. we stayed in the shoreline hotel because some of the good reviews we had seen so we thought lets go for it the room was the K9 gonads. But that was only the start we found to are disgust a condom (used) on the shower floor their was a redcoathaving an arguement with a customer and my son 18 was accused of smoking in the room and we percificly ask for a non smoking room as we have never even touched a cigarette we caught a redcoat making love to the secutary of the manager and personally i would not go near butlins with a ten foot barge pole.
