De Crillon Hotel

I am writing this review of my stay at the Crillon earlier this November. My fiancee and I were planning a short trip to Paris to celebrate our engagement. In the past we have stayed in the Muerice, Bristol and the Plaza Athenee together and for this trip we wanted to stay at the Crillon as it had a great location and had recently been refurbished. Unique location, beautiful public rooms, excellent service (except for breakfast), nice bedroom (beware: not all rooms are equally renovated), elegant marble bathroom with mosaics and Annick Goutal toiletries. I enjoyed lunch at the Obélisque restaurant, less formal and expensive than Les Ambassadeurs. Breakfast at Les Ambassadeus was a buffet but not at all what I expected for 45€ in a 2-star Michelin restaurant. Service was unpleasant and not attentive enough. The hotel lobby/entrance feels like you are walking into a palace- friendly check in- amazing concierge service- have seen the same concierges there for the past 10 years- and a great central location near shopping, parks, metro, and wi-fi in rooms. However smoking (including cigars) are allowed in bars which is quite a turn off- guess most of their guests are not from new york- and the room walls are paper thin as you can hear your neighbors whispering- fortunately our neighbors seem to have checked out the next day- and while every hotel... more

The hotel that I stayed in wasn't on Ile-de-France. It is in Place de la Concorde at the end of the Champs-Elysees and Tuilleries Park. The location is fabulous. It is very central to all the major sites and shopping. The Hermes store is just a block away on the Rue de Faubourg and the hotel is at one end of the Champs Elysees so you can enjoy the entire boulevard of shopping until you reach the Arc de Triomph. Arrived at the hotel to be greeted by around 3-4 hotel staff to help with bags, opening the doors etc. - Hotel room was fantastic, with views of the eiffel tower which was amazing at night from our 3 balconys we had in our room. Ideal location for a visit to paris, resteraunts just by the hotel which are extremely expensive, but i suppose if you pay the cash to stay here you best pay the cash for the best food ! and with all non uk destinations make sure you agree the price when getting in taxis. My husband and I got the opportunity to stay at the Hotel De Crillon back in April. My definition of "PURE LUXURY". Very expensive, but it was worth every penny. After all, you only live once. My wife and I stayed here for two nights in April 2007 - we were in Paris longer, but could only afford two nights here. I have found it hard to rate this hotel, as it is beautiful, grand, historical and suburbly located, but there were nevertheless some disappointing aspects. Firstly the positives. I spent one night at de Crillon, in what was supposed to be a "superior" room. After hearing a lot of good things about the Hotel from a friend of mine, I must say that the experience was certainly not what I had hoped for. First the possitives. My (now) fiancé took me to Paris for Valentine's to "do the deed" and he could not have chosen a better hotel. I have wanted to stay at this fabled palace for years and had such high expectations that I was sure they would be disappointed. They were exceeded in the tiniest detail, from their upgrading us to a suite to two complimentary mini bottles of Pommery champagne when we arrived with a chocolate gateau. We later discovered that not only had they upgraded us to a huge suite but that they had also given us the valentine's package.... more
