Dauphine St-Germain-des-Pres Hotel

A 20th wedding anniversary warranted a trip to Paris and after careful research we selected the Dauphine St Germain. After having visited Paris twice in the early 80's as a very poor student, my expectations were minimal. We stayed at the Dauphine for six nights in May. We booked the "Junior Suite" so it was likely larger than some of the others mentioned as being very small in past reviews. Our room was on the top (sixth) floor and was really lovely. It had a separate little sitting area off the bathroom and a beautiful wood armoire and separate dresser for storage. Marvelous little jewel of a hotel. Yes, the rooms are cozy, but the staff is excellent, the neighborhood is filled with fantastic restaurants and the location is fabulous. You will have anything that could reasonably need is a small, charming left bank hotel. Excellent value for the room rate.

Stayed here on business. Comments from other travellers about the small rooms are absolutely right - but what do expect for an averagely-priced hotel in this part of Paris? A good place to stay if you can get a good deal and you're one of those people who's going to be busy during your stay and location is everything. We stayed in the Hotel Dauphine St. Germain in April for one week. Rooms were disappointingly small, even by European standards. One room had a queen-sized bed and about 18 inches of space between the bed and the wall on three sides. The room had a desk and a dresser at the end of the bed but one could not pull out the chair far enough to sit at the desk and the doors on the dresser could not be completely opened. This little hotel in St Germain des Pres embodies the essence of Paris. Beautifully decorated rooms in a prime location. Walking distance to the Louvre and other Paris landmarks adds even more to the charm of the hotel. Another big plus is the neighborhood of the hotel. Within a few hundred feet you will find delightful restaurants and lively jazz bars and bistrots always packed with locals and a surprising amount of tourists. Past reviews are very accurate. Everything was very clean, nice toiletries were replenished as needed, large (though firm) beds, plenty of towels, wireless connection (very fast) and very well soundproofed. Great location for St. Germain, the Seine, Louvre, D'Orsay, Notre Dame, Cluny, etc., and just a few blocks (4 or 5) from the St Michel Metro. Ideally located opposite the "Isle de France" and in walking distance to the Louvre. The room was on the smallish side but with a huge bed. No restaurant but a breakfast room - and who needs a hotel restaurant in Paris anyway? The staff could not have been more helpful. Anyone wanting a romantic weekend in Paris should stay here, I would also recommend that you pay the extra for the superior room as we did. Overall a brilliant stay.

I stayed 2 nights , the staff was very nice and professional, I was really happy , it was cute and I felt Paris "ambiance" in this hotel , I recommend it for my Lebanese friends , and I will be back 2 days are not enough .

What a miserable time I had in this hotel. I must admit, I booked it after reading all the positive reviews on this site but was bitterly disappointed by this hotel. The rooms are SMALL and are decorated in shabby chic...getting more shabby than chic. But the 'piece de resistance' was the manager who seems to be the son of the owner. I have never met such a disagreeable man. He sits there in the lobby and glowers at people making you think you did something wrong.
