Submitted By: Mr M ReedThe room was basic, but clean! The cleaners came 4 times in a week to change and make the beds and also supply fresh towels, I'm not sure what people expect but that was more than enough in my opinion.
The Pool was ok, the bar was ok and the reception was ok...there is nothing bad I could say without making a fuss over nothing. The bar staff were all extremely friendly and the reception staff always helpful.
If you go here with the open mind that it is 2 star and simply a place to sleep and relax round the pool then you will enjoy yourself.

" Do not book this complex. It is run... "
Submitted By: Mr PL HamnettThe restaurant/taverna is closed & derelict. The paths & pool surrounds are cracked, tiles missing - serious danger to children & elderly people. Many broken outside lights and no lighting at night. Rooms dirty with ant & cockroaches.
Building works to left & right of complex with early morning wake up call from the builders & constant concrete dust. Minimal staff & run by extremely rude & unhelpful woman.
How can British holiday firms such as Thomas cook, Thomsons & Olympic use such places in 2007? It should be demolished now!

Submitted By: amod24The rooms were very VERY basic. We accepted that but on the morning after our first night we woke up to severe ant infestation, especially in the kitchen before we had even bought any food in.
We asked for another room which they were fine with and we were advised that we needed to use the provided ant spray in the room. This has to be sprayed EVERYWHERE - to keep them at bay. Not so great spraying chemicals when you have children.
After this we had no problems with ants. Pool area was great and staff were lovely.

Submitted By: Mrs S A PalmerThe receptionist wasn't the friendliest person but not impolite. On the way to the room we met a couple who immediately complained to us. Not a good start.
However, the room we had was clean albeit in need of an overhaul. The sheets and towels were changed during our stay and the bins emptied. The shower room was incredibly small with the shower right next to the toilet with a small gap to navigate to get in and out. Anyone of larger proportions would have problems. Again this room was in need of a serious overhaul.
The "giant ants" were only seen outside in the evening and we encountered one single cockroach who was in the shower - very clean chap! Although it was not a totally negative experience I would not recommend anyone to stay there.

Submitted By: Mrs T DasentApartments were basic but when you just want to sleep there, there was everything you needed; kettle, toaster, fridge and clean beds.
The apartments were very clean, cleaners came in every other day, bedding was clean and smelt nice so did the towels. Pool was very nice, there were a few tiles missing but still very nice to be around or in pool and we thought grounds were very nice also.
The staff, including the manager were outstanding, very nice lady at the desk when we arrived and we were shown straight to room.
Food was very nice and ate there every night. The children loved L O T K and cried when we had to come home, my 4 year old wanted to bring all staff including manager home with her as they were so friendly.
If asked would I go back the answer would be a big YES PLEASE could not find any reason why I would not go back.

" I went here with 3 of my friends last... "
Submitted By: Miss S JonesWhat we found, however, when we arrived, was that there was a new hotel being built next door and we had to walk over a hole in the ground with a piece of what looked like plywood over the top to walk on just to get into the hotel, and when we finally did get to our rooms, we couldn't open ours as the door handle of our room was broken. Once we did get in the bathroom door handle came off in my hand.
There were cockroaches, the pool was filthy, the staff were rude, the cleaner hardly ever came, the bedding was full of dust, and the waiter at the hotel restaurant kept making lewd comments to one of my friends.
I might add, that we only booked this hotel as we wanted to be within walking distance from a sandy beach and the operator told us there was one within 200 metres. There is a rock and clay beach you can get to after walking down the road for 10 minutes, then cutting through an estate, but the only habitable beach costs £10.00 (more like 14 gbp) in a taxi, and that was Coral Beach.
Finally, on the last day, as we had to be out of our room in the morning, my friend left some clothes in our room by accident and in the afternoon when she realised, reception let us into the room to get them. It was clear as soon as we entered the room that they had gone but nothing had been handed into reception. Reception refused to find the cleaner and ask for them back until my friend saw her walking past and asked her herself. The clothing was in her bag!
I would no advise anyone to go here, it is a horrible place and it put me off going back to Paphos
I will say that the staff in the hotel shop were lovely and even gave us a few free items of food for no reason. Also most of the locals were very nice.

" We stayed here 3 years ago, and had a... "
Submitted By: Mrs K JacksonWhen we arrived, a slow and rude old man informed us that not only were we not on his 'list', but he did not have a room for us with air-conditioning (despite being told by the tour operator that air-conditioning was available).
The room he eventually gave us was round the back away from the main complex. It was disgusting! The whole room smelt of cat urine, it was filthy, the mattress and covers were stained and damp (probably from the local cats roaming around outside, trying to get in).
The shower room was a toxic hazard - filthy, smelly, water poured through apartment and out of front door when using the shower. The toilet stank and the bath mat was sodden with cat urine - this apartment I feel hadn't been cleaned or used in ages.
We complained, and after one day moved to a larger, second floor apartment which was a little cleaner but still unbearably hot as no air-con. Towels at Land of the Kings are a disgrace. They smell like mushrooms even when they come clean (which was only once during our whole two week stay). They are also like drying yourself on sand paper.
We had to pay 5 CYP per night for this room, even though we had already paid under-occupancy to the tour-operator. We complained again as it was so hot we could not sleep, and 'the dragon' (Manageress) did give us a studio with air-con and kindly charged us 8 CYP per day for remainder of holiday (£80 sterling). This, she said, was because we were a 'repeat customer'. This was our third room in 4 days. All the rooms were dirty. Cleaning by the staff is practically non-existent.
They empty the toilet bin and kitchen bin about once every three days. We got one set of 'clean' towels, and bed covers changed once in the whole fortnight. Luckily, we took the spare towels from the larger room and hid them. There was a constant stream of complaints by other guests about state of rooms, cleaning, towels, bedding, etc, etc.
We have never stayed anywhere and heard so many complaints. No one seemed happy at all. The staff are oblivious to this, and are generally quite rude and uncaring.
We only ate once in the complex and the meal was disgusting. The whole complex was filthy; the grounds are overgrown and unkempt. There is poor lighting. Most things appear to be broken, and any extras are to be paid for (e.g. fans, T.V, hair driers, irons, safety deposit box, bath mats - you name it , they charge extra for it). Some people we spoke to had paid over £800 each to stay here.
When we stayed 3 years ago there was a nice restaurant and bar area. This has been partly demolished and is covered in tarpaulins. The pool area had tiles missing and broken - which other customers had complained about. Some days the pool was so dirty you couldn't see the bottom of it.
This was our 5th visit to Paphos (second and final time at Land of the Kings) and we certainly will not be staying at L.O.T.K. again. We would not recommend this complex to anyone - you would be very disappointed if you went there!
Even the Olympic Rep commented to one guest that, despite only being 6 years old, it is a very badly run down complex. Personally, we are amazed that large operators like Olympic and Thomson are still using this. There was a constant stream of tour reps walking around the complex with clip boards, seeing customers, dealing with complaints and moving people to alternative accommodation. Maybe this year, they will get the message.

Submitted By: Miss UOC O''ConnorHowever upon arrival we were met at reception by a lovely girl. My boyfriend and I were then brought to our very spacious, clean apartment which had air conditioning. We were relieved and delighted with the place.
However things quickly went downhill. Our towels weren't changed for a whole week, although we asked for them three days in a row. The cleaners didn't even take the old ones away which we threw outside the apartment door because they began to smell, and they remained there for two full days. The baby pool was filthy too!!
No one seemed to be running the place! There were numerous fights (even physical) among people around the pool, and even between the guests and staff!
After one particular argument between the lovely barman and a drunken mother, the manger of the apartments completely took the side of the guests, giving them lots of free drink (which had fuelled the whole thing to begin with)!!
The poor barman was made to look a fool in front of everyone and thereafter the teenagers got away with everything, throwing pool balls around the bar, tearing the poor table etc. the list is endless.
The manageress was constantly shouting and roaring at her staff around the reception, pool and bar area, which wasn't exactly the ideal environment one wants to sunbathe or have a few drinks in. We ended up completely avoiding the place.
One positive aspect were the staff, they were just lovely! The barmen were great fun and really helpful and friendly.
However I would definitely not recommend this place!!

" Absolutely awful. Please do not go... "
Submitted By: Mrs A ALLCOCKThe bathroom flooded so we had to use towels to mop up the mess.
There were very rude staff on reception who we did not dare approach at times - there were rooms being robbed and the Police were called several times but seemed disinterested.
We went out for a meal one night, came back to find the bar staff being arrested by immigration in front of all the guests.
We hired air conditioning which was situated in the smallest bedroom there was and gave off no air to the other rooms, I hired a fan also which kept breaking down due to the amount of dust on it.
The Manager is less than interested and not at all co-operative. I had to empty the bins myself every day and we all felt filthy due to the lack of cleaning to the apartments.
The list is endless and we would never ever go back there again - particularly if you have children - don't be duped into thinking there is a play area because there is one rusty slide.
The pool area is nice but that's about it. If you have the chance to go elsewhere - do so. Fortunately myself, my sister and my kids have a good sense of humour and we could see the funny side of it, but if you haven't got a good sense of humour - you will end up in tears.

" No bad experiences whatsoever at this... "
Submitted By: em_uk02We also had a beautiful view from the balcony. Room was on the second floor and a very short walk away from the pool which was great.
The room was also immaculate when we were shown to it. As to the location of the hotel, we did have to get a cab when we wanted to eat outside as it is quite remote - that was a pain.
There were a few shops around but not enough. Would go again.

" Left after 2 days. Less than basic... "
Submitted By: Mrs AM BorthwickI booked this place with a reputable company, what a joke. The comments from people who stayed in May 2007 was not my experience. Yes the staff were really friendly and helpful, particularly Brian and Abu.
The meal we had on our first night was very nice, but the actual apartment / room was so disappointing and dirty, I won't be back or be using Thomsons again.

The first time we came here was in Nov 2003, just my husband and I, this was our first ever trip abroad and it was our wedding anniversary. The staff were so nice and friendly the food was excellent , so this time we decided to bring our 12 yr old son with us .
Mr Tony the manager was not there for the first week, but his wife was and she was lovely Dom was still there and he remembered us from 3 years before and when Mr Tony came back he also remembered us so that made it even more personal to us . They loved my son and he loved them.
Our room was basic, clean and tidy maid service every day, but in a wonderful place like Cyprus you only need it to sleep. I only have 1 niggle (if that's what you want to call it ) that the pool was not heated not that, that stopped us going in it anyway.
My husband and I will be back hopefully next year and we of course will be staying at the Land of The Kings as they make you feel like royalty with there friendly hospitality.
