Claude Bernard Hotel Reviews

8 / 10
Feb 2005, Mr D Sanigar

A nice clean well decorated hotel with plenty of antique period features. We enjoyed a short weekend with breakfast included for a very reasonable price. Very nicely situated in the Latin Quarter of Paris, and handy for eating and going out, and sightseeing for Notre Dame,... more

very nice
We went to Claude Bernard Hotel for 6 nights and we were very please by our room. It was a good size for 4 peoples and very clean. The location is perfect.
Would Stay at the Claude Bernard Whenever I Am In Paris
This is my second stay at the Claude Bernard and I would come back anytime that I am in Paris. The location is convenient for walking to sights such as Notre Dame, Ile St. Louis, St. Chapelle, the Pantheon, and many other places. The Metro is close by and street markets are a few blocks away on different days of the week. The hotel itself is charming and they are in the process of renovating some of the areas. A computer is located off of the lobby and free Internet is available so that you can keep in touch with friends and relatives (it sure beats writing those inane postcards.) The people who work at the hotel are polite and very, very helpful. I cannot say enough about the hotel and the staff. For the price, the Claude Bernard is a definite find.
Lovely, charming, personable Claude Bernard
My husband and I stayed at the Claude Bernard with our daughter and grandaughters for 10 days in April and have only good things to report. The staff was friendly, knowledgable, and accomodating in every way. Our rooms were typically small, but clean with modern bathrooms and lovely views.from our balcony. The location of this charming hotel is perfect for visitors...walking distance to good restaurants, shops and the metro. Five minutes` walk from Notre Dame, and yet on a pleasantly quite and charming street. The breakfast was a daily event we all enjoyed. I would reccomend this hotel highly.
Very Disappointing
Small and poorly maintained room - cracked wash hand basin, cupboard doors barely hanging on their hinges. When issues were raised to reception, the reaction was a shrug. Needless to say, we will not return.
Great Hotel Experience
This was our first trip to Paris and we booked this hotel on-line, based on previous travelers' reviews. Couldn't have been happier with the hotel and staff. The staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful. The rooms were clean, but small. However, by European standards they were the right size. We'd recommend this hotel to our friends. Its location was close to many attractions, restaurants and was in a good part of town.
hated the hotel, staff very unfriendly
Room was very small. Went to paris for a romantic weekend with my boyfriend. Staff at the hotel were very rude until they found out we were Irish and not english, at that point we tried to have as little to do with them as possible. I would not be recommending this hotel to anyone who would be visiting Paris as during our five night stay we found better and friendlier hotels in the area. The area is good due to the restaurants and your close to the Metro to do all your sightseeing.
Good location, pleasant staff!
We stayed here 2 nights. Rooms are clean, but small. Staff was very pleasant and spoke good English. Breakfast buffet was very good. There is a bus that you can use for sightseeing that stops right across the street. Many restaurants are located in quick walking distance. Not far from the train station or the Metro. Area a little noisy, but not bad.
A charming hotel in the heart of Paris
I stayed at the Claude Bernard in 2002, where I met my parents (who came in by train from Switzerland). Although older, the rooms were very clean and tastefully appointed, and the balcony had a lovely view. The breakfast buffet offered a decent Continental spread of yogurt (including my favourite, apple), fresh baguettes and café au lait. The Claude Bernard served as a good base for exploring, is close to many monuments and attractions, and is affordable considering the cost of hotels in Paris. The staff was also very helpful with dining suggestions, as well as assisting me in my hunt for the sheet music to Amélie!
Quaint Hotel
This was my first time in Paris and I loved the hotel. My boyfriend who had been to Paris on numerous occasions thought that the hotel was "quaint." We had originally been given a lower-floor room with two twin beds -- the room was a bit drab and frankly, not up to snuff. When we mentioned to the front desk that we wanted a queen bed, they immediately switched us to an upper floor -- this room, while exactly the same size as the previous room, was great... very clean, and while sparsely furnished, exactly as I had hoped my Parisian experience to be. The bathroom was also very clean, the staff friendly enough. The location was also quite nice -- just a short walk from Notre Dame as well as the Latin Quarter areas. It's a bit of a hike to other main areas, e.g. the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, etc., so luckily the metro is reasonably close by. Just remember that the metro closes at around 12am so if you want to get back to the hotel, you'll need to take a cab -- a bit of an expensive proposition. I would definitely stay here again.
Decent but not great
I recently stayed for 6 nights at the Hotel Claude Bernard and had a good experience, but wasn't wowed. I made my reservation about a month in advance, and this was the the only hotel out of 10 I checked that had a room available. It's in a good location just a couple of blocks from the Metro and about 4-5 blocks from the Place St. Michel. I loved being able to walk wherever I wanted to go and it was heavenly to sit on my little balcony and watch the people go by. However, my room was a step above closet, the shower was none too great (mildewy curtain, crazy hardware mounted at elbow height - youch!), and the sheets weren't changed at all throughout my stay. I found the staff to be pleasant and had no problems with anything during my stay. This is a good choice in a pinch, but I think there are a lot of other area hotels in the same price range that may be a bit better.
