Good location, but the rooms are small and drab
from MJMH
It's difficult to fault the location of this hotel. It's close to the Metro (Opera and Madeleine) and convenient for many Paris attractions. First impressions are positive because the reception area is spacious and attractive and the reception staff speak very good English. The main disappointment is the size of the rather drab rooms. Mine was barely large enough to accommodate the basic facilities and the best that can be said of the decor is that it was functional. The breakfast buffet, while perfectly adequate, is expensive at 20...

4 star Non!

The reception area was tasteful and service excellent. The breakfast was fine well presented but the tables (and the dishes) were very small. The bedrooms were well appointed but extremely small - They would won a prize if there was one for the smallest bathroom (clean of course). Relatively quiet - more noise through the walls to other rooms than from the street. Would consider staying here again in a "doubleroom" - if I was travelling alone.
Great location, decent hotel
from TSB44
We reserved two rooms at the hotel. I had great trepidation at first because after reserving the hotel through Hotwire I corresponded by e-mail and wanted to make sure that we would have two double beds in each room. They replied that they did not have this accomodation and that having a rollaway put in the room would cost more that what we were paying for the room. Once we got there they let us know that they had a suite on the 6th floor and they charged us 50 Euros more for that room than for our other single room. So we ended up with...

disappointed with the room at first
from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel was in a very good location with lots of restaurants and bars nearby. The street was in the theatre district and was quite lively at night. We did not eat at the hotel, there were bars nearby which did good, continental breakfast from 7 to 9 euros. The hotel breakfast was 20 euros. Our room, on the 6th. floor was quite small, but had everything we needed and was very comfortable and clean. Bathroom products were re stocked each day. Small wardrobes, and the safe on the floor was quite awkward. Helpful staff on the front...

Very nice hotel, but room a bit on the small side
from Mclaren697
We were originally booked into the Malte Opera hotel (another "Best Western" but were transferred to the Astra due to a computer fault. Originally we were happy as the location remained good and the hotel was a 4 star instead of 3 but could not see why this hotel had 4 stars. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room clean but much smaller than I had anticipated. The location was very good (in the Opera area), and was situated on a nice narrow street. Overall we enjoyed our stay and Paris was fantastic, but next time would ask...

nice hotel
from dajo
The hotel is in a good location for all the Paris sights at a reasonable price. The rooms are small but clean, quiet and well air conditioned. One piece of advice, avoid the so-called restaurant across the road from the hotel it is a disgrace regarding the food and especially the disgusting service you receive [ pizza firenze ] is the name of the place.Paris has an abundance of restaurants so don't even contemplate this place.
Wonderful stay!

My mom and I went to Paris for the weekend and after researching hotel after hotel I decided on the Hotel Astra, which is affiliated with Best Western hotels. We took the Eurostar from London and the hotel was about a 15-minute walk from the Gare de Nord station. It is in a great location, in the Opera district next to all the big department stores. It's on a quiet street, and the room we were in was very quiet, could not hear any street noise at all. There are many small cafes and bars around the area, and it's within walking distance...

Unbelieveably bad
from mrsgarner
how this hotel has 4 stars is a complete mystery to me - it was dire. fair enough the location, exterior and lobby were smart enough but the room (first floor) was awful. the decor was dated and the paint on the walls and doors was really grim, tobacco stained from the 1970's appearence. I paid Expedia for a special rate but I have no idea why as we didnt have a view or anything. No one bothered to tell us about breakfast, but they did charge us for items in the minibar we didnt use. I tried to take issue but the bloke at the counter was...

loved it

Hotel in very good location and was as expected from discription. As the meaning of our trip was to see paris it was perfect for our needs. The staff were very friendly and polite and the room very clean and nicely decorated. Yes the room was small but included every thing we needed and the size was never a problem. We never had breakfast at the hotel, so cannot comment on the food although the dining area looked very clean and elegant. We were on the 7th floor, a no smoking floor, and had the views of the rooftops of Paris. We have...

Before booking, my advice is DONT.
from Dublinbride
We stayed in the Best Western Astra Opera for one night before moving to an alternative hotel, the Waldorf Madeline. On arrival staff were very friendly. Pictures can be deceiving as far as the room was concerned, whilst it was comfortable it was very small. The hotel is classed as a 4star but it is far from it. Our main problem was the noise. We didn't sleep a wink as the air conditioning/heating system kept us awake it was that loud and to add to this the walls are paper thin. Whilst it is in a good location I definitely wont be going...

I travel often to Paris on business and was shocked with the lack of service I received at the Astra Opera Hotel. I tried to take it up with the hotel but have had no response. This is not four star service or quality. - Understaffed - they lock the front door at night... more
