Rodos Village Hotel Reviews
" Just returned from a 7 day holiday -... "
Submitted By: Miss GS SansomThe pools were nice, each with a bar. The Beach was the winning point for us. The beach is apparently the cleanest in Europe. It is crystal clear, lots of little fish which you can feed and they eat from your hands (great if you have a snorkle kit), and very refreshing after lying in the sun.
The food was great - as there was an al a carte Italian which we went to almost every day. The service is great, the food was better than most nice Italian restaurants we have been to in the UK (including Zizi's). The main restaurant was also really nice, but we didn't get a chance to go there as we spent most of our time in the Italian!
Our room had such a nice view, over the sea, pool and mountaints, with a nice little balcony. Sheets & towels were fresh everyday.
The animation team are fun, there is lots to do if you enjoy sports and socialising, and they put on some entertaining shows in the evening.
The only bad point i have (which is why our score is 9 and not 10), is that there was an EARTHQUAKE! Couldn't believe it, but apparently they are common there. However, the hotel proved good quality, nothing crumbled or was damaged, compared to lots of other hotels on the island from the stories we were hearing at the airport. It is designed for them... Dont let this put you off, as it wasn't harmful, just not expected when you're asleep at 6am...
highly reccommended.

Submitted By: Mr F RooneyI overheard a snatch of conversation from two groups of Brits as I walked by a couple of nights ago which went along the lines of...
Middle aged man: "It's not five star"
Teenage girl: "And that food they put out is left sitting there"."
First point first... It's not "English" five star here and thank Christ for that. Who want's to spend two weeks of hard earned holiday with that stifeling formality? If you want a battalion of servile staff standing inviting you to click fingers at them or a bloke in the toilet standing by to unfold a hot towel for you, (tip bowl prominent), then you will be dissapointed. I suggest instead you try the Four Seasons in Mayfair or the Hong Kong Hotel in Hong Kong. I've found them both very good. But that is not what an Aegean beach holiday is about.
If instead you want to relax - play - eat and drink in a spotlessly clean environment that could double for a location for a James Bond movie... where the staff are friendly and eager to help... then this is more your ticket.
Second point: "Food left standing"... JUST WRONG ON EVERY LEVEL! The food here is varied and replenished regularly. It has a freshness that we can only dream of in Britain. Absolutely beautiful. Why someone should say such a thing I have no clue. I can only assume that some seasoned all inclusive travellers look for things to be dissatisfied with and "food left standing" must be a mantra of theirs.
It is a bit much to ask for any one place to keep you amused night after night so I don't think it unreasonable to expect to fork out for a cab or rent a car and eat out once in a while during your stay.
Having said that, our hire car has sat largely unused in the car park for a week because we only get a few hundred yards up the road and we cant think of a place we'd sooner be than back at Rodos Village.
Truth is its a harsh environment out there... very very hot. With access to air-con, shade, fluids and water to dip in and out of the heat is bearable or even enjoyable.
(This week though we are determined to explore the rest of the island.)
Sunbeds being claimed early on is a problem. But its a problem with an easy solution. Get up early, (7.30ish) and lay a few towels). Wrong that you should have to but once you accept thats how it is you can get on enjoying your hols.
I'm here with wife and four teenage kids. Having the time of our lives. The staff are great and love kids. Even big ones like ours. Don't let the whingers put you off.

Submitted By: Mr D HaynesIt was a truly fantastic holiday to this day we cant forget it and cant beat it, the beach was about a 3 minute walk and was lovely, we had about 300 yards just to ourselves which was nice, the food was brilliant and staff were fantastic the hotel was the best, built into the cliff side with a pool on the roof just brilliant please do dismiss all the negative it was beautiful
" Yeah.. Have to agree with Mr T... "
Submitted By: Mr R A" Normally I would rate this hotel... "
Submitted By: Mr T ShermanMy main reason for giving such a low rating was that at least 95 per cent of the guests were German. I have shared previous holidays with them and managed to co-exist without too much friction - but NOT HERE!!!
I have never known such a rude, bolshy lot of pigs in all my life. The first time I walked up to the main bar and said "Hello" to the barman, a German voice chipped in "Goodbye".
After wasting the first week of our holiday we moved to the Lindos Royal a few miles down the road, and had no further problems, with ANY nationality, so it wasn't us!!!
" I thought this holiday was great.... "
Submitted By: Miss L DStaff were friendly. Especially entertainment staff, they were such a laugh and made the holiday even better. Day and night time entertainment was always something to look forward to.
Would recommend this place to anyone.

Submitted By: Mr Jj MarshallAlthough staff were polite and genial, when I did complain about a missed early call all I got was language barrier but understood if buying; funny that?
Room very basic, plugs hanging off, mould round bath, basic shower and stained mattresses. Main dining hall flies and sparrows and most of all the whole place is an accident zone. I know we have a different safety culture but by main pool 2 ft drop and in lots other areas.
Would not use this facility again I don't go on holiday to live in worse than at home,if the standard for this country is three star that is what it should advertise.

Submitted By: Mr S J DykesRoom airy and clean, not a 5 star but 3 maybe 4. Very friendly staff. Lunch next day was nice, big dining area and plenty of choice of foods. Drinks okay as well. The entertainment not the best as the daytime staff for entertainment have the speakers on full volume when speaking although not too bad and the poolside very clean and pleasant, along with the pools very nice. Evening entertainment not brilliant for adults although ok for kids i.e. greek nights and comedy nights, wouldn't say the entertainers are as good as uk red coats but do try!
All in all staff very friendly. Had to leave halfway through week as medical emergency so didn't stay full week. Dr visits daily at 7pm at cost of 100 euros.
Beach very close, few steps in and around resort and leading to beach but clean with food/drink bar. Shingle/sand but very clean and staff friendly, and lots of sun beds. Watersports and views very good and canoes etc free. Would like to return one day for the other half of our holiday!
" Would not class this as a 5 star... "
Submitted By: Ms L WestoverRooms basic, entertainment poor. Some reception staff were unhelpful and rude. Holiday rep. was also unhelpful and was lacking in basic information. Food was good although repetitive. Beach very shingly and not ideal for children. Some areas of the hotel were in need of repair. Alcohol was plentiful - but watered down?
Very remote part of the island - ideal for some- but a car is recommended as the bus takes for ever to reach tourist attractions.

Submitted By: Mrs D WilkinsonThe staff are quite ignorant and miserable especially at the bars-we always tip on holiday but I refused to do so here because they didn't deserve it.
The room is ok but no mini bar just a fridge, but it was kept clean though empty glasses were not removed from the room if you took a drink back with you. You have to wear long trousers for the dining room yet they don't provide you with 2 sets of knifes and forks for your starter and main meal-you have to keep the same ones, and the food is okay but not in the 5* league.
The Italian is great though and the staff there are lovely but you had to book and could not get in easily-our rep had to pull in a favour so we could eat there!
There are not enough chairs in the evening, not enough sun beds by the pools, and the walk to the beach is a long one down some rickety steps.
If you go expecting 3* facilities you will not be disappointed. The resort is beautiful but is very quiet, and the hotel is very hilly so don't go if you are not good on your legs!

Submitted By: Miss J DerrickI am 16 and enjoyed every minute of the holiday!
The entertainment during the day was extremely good, with water polo, darts, ping pong and sometimes mini golf. The animation team were spectacular and really friendly!
In the evening the kiddies disco was great for the kids, with dances which everyone could join in. Bingo/raffle was a bit of a rip off and we never won anything. But the entertainment done by the animation team was fantastic! A few nights it was a bit of a let down when the show wasn’t as good but I must stress that was only 2 out of 14 days.
The food at breakfast was pretty much the same every morning, but it was lovely, the croissants were extremely good. During the day at the pool bar at the bottom pool the food choice was outstanding (for a snack bar), the staff were very friendly and cleared up straight after you.
At lunch time the restaurant food was lovely and the staff were always willing to stand and chat with you if they weren’t to busy.
In the evening the food varied, the selection of salad, fruit, deserts and grill foods was lovely and kept being replenished even before the trays were empty. The chef made a different thing each night at the hot plate. Everything from crepes to Chinese noodles.
Our room was huge and very clean, and even though the water from the shower flooded the place each night we always had 4 sets of clean towels available to mop it up. The room was cleaned every day and the sheets were changed and the towels replaced.
With one double bed and two single beds it was perfect for my family as my brother and I didn’t have to share a bed. There was a TV in the room and a fridge (unfortunately we didn’t see the mini bar drinks during our holiday).
The cleaners were friendly and even though they didn’t speak much English they said hello in the morning and were very pleasant.
The bar service at the 3 bars within the hotel were quite slow, however when you did get served the bar tenders were very friendly and always up for a laugh.
Over all our holiday was fantastic.
It was the first all inclusive holiday we have been on and we are going back in October as we enjoyed it so much!!
Most of the negative comments are from last year and from what we saw when we visited, the hotel has definitely improved!
I would recommend this holiday too anyone!!! I had such a fantastic time; this was also made better by the friendly staff and lovely people I met whilst on holiday.
" Just come back from 2 weeks holiday... "
Submitted By: Mr M DavenportWe had no rude staff as such (although one of the grill chefs and restaurant floor managers could have done with some better people skills), and as the restaurant is self service buffet, not sure why one reviewer was asking hotel staff to fetch a desert!!
It is a 5 star by greek hotel standards; we dropped off people at some awful looking places so would go back.
The separate pizzeria was excellent and the staff there top notch. As for the entertainment staff they were faultless; can only assume some professional wingers went on holiday just to moan for the sake of it!
The food was okay, a bit repetitive but catered for the nationalities of the holidaymakers.
There were Greek nights (food and music) so again the reviewer who could not see that must have stayed in his room the whole time. Rather be there than at work!

Submitted By: Mr C MorganThe room was filthy so we requested another room to which they gave us, this room was cleaner but very shabby and old our view was a block wall with a roof by this time we were very tired and decided to make the most of a bad situation.
At breakfast was even less encouraged after meeting the local fly population, the food was awful not only looked awful, the cutlery was dirty, staff were rude and very long winded and on the whole most staff seemed like they didn’t want to be there.
Entertainment was rubbish, beach is very noisy and pebbly very uncomfortable, sun loungers matching hotel standards going back to Greek 5star its like the two hour time difference. We paid £700pp and thought we were going into 5star quality as advertised by the operator, definitely misleading think very carefully before choosing this holiday, boring only one supermarket and no tea making facilities in the room.
Only saving grace was that we found a restaurant that was great and quite reasonable at 70 euros for two three course meals that’s were we ate every night and that is what we call 5star. Go to another area of Rhodes as this area is rubbish.

Submitted By: Mrs L NicholsonI have read the other reviews and some people must have been staying at another hotel. We went in August and it was a heatwave and there was not a fly problem in the restaurant. Our air-conditioning broke down but was fixed within a couple of hours of my reporting it. The animation team are excellent, especially Bebe and Adela.
The evening entertainment was in the Amphitheatre which was an uphill walk, but the hotel description clearly states that there are a lot of steps at the hotel so I don't know why people are moaning about this.
If you want a nice relaxed, good fun holiday with friendly staff and good food then go to the Rodos Village. I don't believe in going to the same place twice, but we will definately be looking at another Mitsis Hotel for next year.

The ramps either side of the steps shown at the front of the hotel are marble and people SKATE down them, make sure you have shoes that grip or you will slip. Need a sunbed? Get up at 7am and you may have a chance of getting one. Everywhere but everywhere is either steep slopes or steep stairs and not a handrail in sight.
Feeling a bit dodgy in the morning? dont ask for a coffee to take out of the restaurant - it wont happen, similarly if you want a coffee from the rock cafe after 11pm - they dont serve it even though the bar is open until 12midnight.
Food was very samey - no traditional greek dishes per se.
As you can guess this is probably the worst holiday we have been on. My husband has MS and we always check out hotels quite thoroughly, so this was a huge let down. Mitsis dont have this information on their website, but apparently it is mentioned on another website (hotels4u.com) that the hotel is not suitable for people with walking difficulties - be aware is all we can say.
