My family and I (wife and kids aged 8...

Aug 2005, Mr R W Matson

My family and I (wife and kids aged 8 yrs and 18 mths) have just returned from this resort and I must admit, after reading some of the other reviews, we did have reservations, but thought lets just see for ourselves.
Night flights and arriving at the hotel at 6:30 am, not the best combination, but hardly the hotels fault. However, the hotel did know how many people were arriving and I feel that they should have had more than the one receptionist and one porter on duty. As you can guess, service was not the quickest ever encountered, but at least when we were finally allocated the room (¾ of an hour later) it was perfectly adequate, with a nice sea / pool view, and the requested cot was spotless.
The main pools were great, as were the splash pool at the bottom of the waterfall and the kid’s pool. The Jacuzzi was being drained as the mosaic tiles were coming off and cutting peoples feet. The main pool did get quite dirty with all the use and it was only cleaned out once a week, maybe that’s why some people (my daughter included) got an ear infection.
At least having a doctor living on site and serving the three hotels in the locality, it was easy to get treatment. On the subject of pools, what about the sun beds? OK, it’s true, there were some people who placed their towels out at 12:30 for the following day, but they weren’t all from the country you might think, ours was also well represented. Whatever your rep tells you, if you don’t claim yours by about 7:30, you were lucky to get one.
The food was all of good quality, but it was basically the same every single day. If you are a fussy eater you may struggle, that is unless you can get in at the pizzeria, it is excellent. There wasn’t really a children’s menu as we would call it in the main restaurant. Their idea of kids meals is spaghetti Bolognese or carbonara, certainly not fish fingers or chicken nuggets.
That said, the hotdogs, chips, pasties, etc at the pool went down well with my eldest, as did the permanent supply of ice creams. Although the main restaurant is buffet style self-service, at all the other restaurants and bars you are either served or waited on by, on the whole, very courteous staff. The Greeks are very family orientated, they love kids and family groups, and we found them all to be really friendly and always trying to help.
The bars and drinks were typical of this type of hotel. The coffee was quite strong (add extra milk), the lager was very good and cold (only served in half pint glasses, but you can always get two at a time), and some of the spirits were quite weak especially when the bar first opens.
Macram’s Animation team were all great. They were really friendly and hard working, most with 4 or 5 languages. They are doing a job that they all want to do and it shows. The effort they put in to the daytime and evening entertainment is amazing. We will miss them, especially Miriam, Steffie and Lilly, who were the kids favourites.
Overall we had great time. The hotel is 5star, but only by Greek standards, we would give it probably 3+ or 4, but it is considered to be the one of the best on the island by the locals. If it sets your minds at rest we are definitely going back in two years time.

Aug 2005, Mr M Heybourne

Well I went with my wife and two children (age 13 and 9). Thought the accommodation for a 'holiday' hotel was excellent. The room was plenty big enough and the maid cleaned it thoroughly every day. The staff were really helpful and I thought the choice of food was pretty good although it was geared towards international rather than Greek food (not a good or bad thing, just an observation).
There were 3 good sized swimming pools with drinks readily available at all of them which was good as it was very hot. We didn’t see a cloud until our last day.
The evening entertainment was fine if you remember that you are on holiday and not at the London Palladium. They managed to get me to dance the can can whilst wearing a wig, make up and skirt so the entertainment team can't be faulted for effort.
Only two gripes. (1) Power cut every other night which is apparently a scheduled thing on Rhodes and yet the hotel didn’t have a back up generator. Lamps were found for the restaurant but people stuck in the lifts have to be rescued and ,of course, the air conditioning stops. The power cuts generally last about an hour. (2) People of a certain nationality nick all the sunbeds. We actually saw some people going to the pools at 12.30am to put towels on sunbeds!!!
It wouldn’t be so bad if they then didn’t turn up until mid morning, thus depriving others of their use. I suppose it would add to the cost but perhaps the hotel should arrange for sunbeds to be booked out as and when people want them. I guess I could have thrown the towels off the beds but I think WW III might have broken out between the British and the people from the country that I shall not name.
Hired a jeep for the day to see the island and did a day in Rhodes Town which is definitely worth a visit. The shop in the hotel is pricey, try the supermarket opposite for the same items at half the price.
The boat trip on the glass bottomed boat from the hotel’s beach might seem a bit on the expensive side but it was certainly a very entertaining couple of hours and a good way to keep cool.
I would certainly recommend the hotel.

Kids loved it not 5 star maybe 3+ Sunstar have allocated rooms try and get one in block 900 they have great views, food gets really boring and they don’t really cater for young kids, if you go for two weeks you must hire a car and see the rest of the island.
One major problem is getting a sunbed around pool ,the beach is great take snorkels and beach shoes as its quite rough on feet plenty of fish to see, staff are good especially the guy at the beach bar overall value for money.

Jul 2005, Mr F Garthwaite

We are an outgoing couple in our early fifties and stayed at the Rodos Village for two weeks, we found the hotel in general was very good and most of the staff eager and helpful, the rooms were cleaned every day, the grounds are quite spread out and if you are allocated a room at the top end (as we were)it is a steep climb up to your room, the hotel was busy and all the sunbeds had towels on them by 7.15am,breakfast,dinner and evening meals never varied for the two weeks we were there (not so bad if you only go for a week)
The Italian place was nice but you had to book a few days in advance.
The entertainment is totally kids based, there are other bars though, the beach is very rough we didn’t spend much time down there, we went to Lindos and Lardos on the local bus (which stops running at 8pm, 15 euro’s back in a taxi from Lindos) lovely villages, went to Rhodes town for the day, well worth a visit, and went over to turkey for a day which was good fun, the second week we hired a car for three days and seen a lot of the island (enjoyed the beach at Faliraki very much) it’s the first time I’ve driving abroad and I enjoyed it (roads not to busy) in July it was very hot.

All the ANIMATORS were just great!!! Just great!!! (Jo)Kurt, Lorenzo, Miriam, Macram,... "Naa Naa Naa... massage..."
Other staff - GREAT - especially some of them - at the pool bar (two white wines...) and the main bar (Kossu polar sprite...)
Food - for two weeks it was too much the same...
Pool towels - does not work at all - you feel guilty to ask new ones from reception - staff should be there more polite...
Still this might be the place were to go again...

Jun 2005, Mr J O'Donnell

The place was nice and quiet, we went to Lindos twice for a wee change of scenery.
The hotel was nice and clean, the food was good and the entertainment was out of this world. The Animation team were amazing.
The snacks were good and the all inclusive beer was good, never got the squirts once.
My only grumble was he lack of chicken nuggets/fish fingers for the kids.
I would go back in a flash, great for families and older couples, not suitable for young'uns chasing skirt.
Anyone who didn’t like this hotel, as its not, in their estimations, a 5 star, you get what you pay for, can **** off back to Britain.

May 2005, Mrs A Costello

Excellent holiday was here for one week, hubby and 2 kids aged 12 and 13. Great value for money. Very clean throughout the whole complex. Rooms cleaned on a daily basis. Clean sheets every day.
Food was varied with a wide choice. Catered for all tastes though could do with a few more plain things for children i.e.: chicken nuggets and fish fingers. Booze was plentiful and of good quality. The entertainment is brilliant.. A very hard working team who provided entertainment from morning till evening ... they do get Saturdays off so it’s an ideal day to visit Rhodes.
Forget the bus either pay for a taxi both ways .. 39 euros ( all fixed prices ) or hire a car.

Apr 2005, Mrs C Bevan

The location of the hotel was very remote no entertainment in the surrounding area.
The food was what you would expect at a three star accommodation, however, the staff were extremely helpful. The Animation team were excellent and made the holiday one to remember. The rooms are spacious but lack the facilities you would expect for 5 star ratings.
On the whole we enjoyed the holiday, due to the staff and entertainment. We would not recommend the hotel to people who like to explore bars and tavernas within walking distance. The hotel gives the impression all rooms have sea views, it is a very large complex with back-to-back rooms.
There are three excellent swimming pools and three places to eat, including an Italian a la carte restaurant all included in the price. Good but certainly not 5 star.

Oct 2004, Ms J McMillan

I really can’t believe what some people expect for the price they pay! We have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels, and at least 3 on Rhodes, and this is brilliant value.
The rooms are big and clean, with a lovely balcony (nice furniture and the telly had a couple of BBC stations so you could even watch Eastenders while getting ready for dinner if you so wish). The food is a good standard with lots of choice, the animation team are brilliant and are worked to death. Yes, its a bit remote but hire a car and get out and see this beautiful island.
There is a main restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, a pool bar and beach bar for lunch, snacks etc, and an Italian/pizza. If you have a birthday there they make you a cake. One of the pools is an infinity pool with amazing views. As well as these facilities you can use the same amount of pools, bars etc and the Maris next door, so you get double the facilities for your money.
I went over the road to the supermarket and the Aussie bird working there even tried to put in her gripes about it not being 5 star! This is rubbish, the hotel claim to be A class, and its typical of a Greek A class hotel. If you go there expecting an English standard 5 star (i.e. the Ritz) you would pay 400 quid a night not 300-400 quid a week.
Look at the pictures on the hotel’s web site as they are very true to life, what you see is what you get. We are going back this year.

Oct 2003, Mrs J Schultz

We were expecting 5 star, this was by no means 5 star.
We arrived during the night when we got to reception they didn’t have the room we had booked, got put in horrible for first 3 nights.
There was nothing to do as its in the middle of no where. The staff were lovely they were the only things that made it bearable, but the food wasn’t very good, the TV was German.
