Well... where to begin!
Excellent transfer from the airport to the hotel, only about 5/10 mins away too.
Greeted immediately at the hotel with a fruity cocktail as booking in, fab after a 12hr flight!
Room was fantastic, we were in block5, looking out over the beach and sea, with the two main pools less than a minute walk away.
Room was cleaned everyday, at varying times, which was a bit of a pain not knowing when we could go back, or if we could get a lie-in. We preferred walking (all of about 2 mins!) around to the quiet pool, where you could relax and chill out without the music.
I'm a very fussy eater, but there was soooo much choice of food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Thomas Cook rep's availability not fantastic as he looks after another hotel as well - but when we needed him he was there, and when he wasn't, you have access to the 24/7 phone line. Recommend the speed boating trip, fantastic!
Also, borrow a snorkel (its included) on the beach front, some beautiful fish right on the door step!
Disco Coco - cheesy with purple suede curtains - need i say more, great after a few pina coladas though. Entertainment staff work all the hours, and always have a smile on their faces. I would return!

May 2006, Ms L Bennett

Staff at the hotel are very friendly and make you feel really welcome and relaxed. The beach is gorgeous and is really peaceful. The food was nice but got quite boring after the first week. The Japanese was really something else!
We met lots of really nice people but if we had not met anyone I think we would have been quite bored as the entertainment was rather boring.
We would definetely return to Cuba but would not go back to this resort as it was too quiet for us.

We were very wary of going to this hotel after reading the previous reviews. Although many of the comments were true we still had a great time. The food was adequate not great but you do have to remember you are in a very poor country. The rooms were not brilliant for a four star rating and most seemed to have problems with biting insects whilst we were there several rooms including our own had to be fumigated. Which did help.
Our son of 10 months was unwell whilst away over Christmas but the doctor was fantastic he kept a close eye on him for several days and was available 24 hours a day we only paid for one consultation and the antibiotics which were cheaper than here.
The entertainment was ok and the dancers are fantastic the staff really try and are so friendly you seem to forget about the things that need attention.
This is a fairly new hotel and the management are so apologetic when things go wrong. The rep Corina was fantastic very approachable and sorted any problems as quickly as she could. Nothing was to much trouble and she had to deal with some very unpleasant holiday makers. The beach is second to none the people are so happy it makes you feel you should not complain.
We met some great people and had a great Christmas, but we wouldn't go back to this hotel.

My husband and I traveled to playa coco the last week of March for 2 weeks. We had a great time, beautiful resort, very clean rooms and surroundings.
The people that work there go out of their way to make sure you are happy and having a great time. They always had a smile on their faces and a "hola" to greet you. The food was great in the buffet as well as restaurants. The beach was beautiful we walked for hours, if you walk the beach to the right of the resort for about 3 kms. You will find the flamingo beach bar. Cold beer for a peso also has seafood and friendly people.
We did this about every other day. If you get a chance to do the speed boat tour I would recommend it, it is a lot of fun. We are already planning to go back to this resort for 2 weeks next year. We loved it.

The staff warm and friendly, the rooms dirty, the toilets in the reception very dirty and smelly even though a cleaner was there I have no idea what she was doing they smelled like public toilets, in fact all the toilets smelled the same a bit of bleach would have done wonders.
The pool was filthy there was a pool cleaner but for our first week all he did was try and sell us trinkets and bits of tat instead of cleaning the pool, we did all complain to our reps and the pool did start to get a little bit cleaner. Its a shame because to say its only 2 years old its in a very poor state; walls crumbling, pool tiles coming off, litter all over the place.
What a shame, it doesn’t warrant a 4 star and on the there star rating it says 4 star plus, I'm sorry but not a very nice place.
Mrs J Mathers.

Mar 2006, thepipers

The choice of food was limited and did not vary from mealtime to mealtime, or from day to day. On day four of our all inclusive holiday we picked chicken from the buffet, only to find that it was raw and oozing blood. That was it for us we demanded to be moved, and although we had to pay we were moved.
This hotel had a great Japanese restaurant, but the main buffet was diabolical in comparison. The other A la cartes we did not get to try as the hotel booked us in on a day they were closed!!
We have been to Cuba before and enjoyed everything about it, from the friendliness of the people, the weather and the climate - but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Incidentally we submitted our complaint form to Thomas Cook at the end of January and still have not even received an acknowledgement.

Just returned from Playa Coco Hotel...
10 / 10
Dec 2005, Mr C Latham

Just returned from Playa Coco Hotel in Cayo Coco, Cuba, and felt that I just had to make the following comments.
From the minute you arrive you are made to feel welcome by the hotel staff and they really make an effort to make you feel like they value your custom and are working so hard to make a success of the hotel given all the adverse comments it appears to have received in the past.
I can honestly say that apart from a problem with insects, but bear in mind you are in the tropics, this is an excellent resort to just go and chill out and do nothing. It is quite isolated but this is as the brochure says.
I can only add that the only downside to this holiday was listened to whingeing British Holidaymakers who seem to have complaining about everything under the sun down to a fine art form just to get a freebie or compensation which to be honest I found quite pathetic. I also must add that the Thomas Cook Rep Corina, was an absolute gem and at times I did feel for having to listen to these sad individuals, out to make everyone’s life a misery. My advice to them is to stick to Blackpool and stop making us all to look like a nation of pathetic scroungers.

Jun 2005, Miss LG Green

Playa coco hotel is in the middle of nowhere. The beach is fantastic and so is the hotel but after 2 days it’s very boring. The evening entertainment is boring as it is the same show every night. There are some fantastic trips on offer, which are all very expensive. The food is ok but again it’s the same every day breakfast, lunch and dinner. After going to the Playa coco I wouldn’t go back to Cuba again.
It’s like being in the big brother house but in Cuba!

Hotel accommodation spacious, clean...
4 / 10
May 2005, Mrs G P Barker

Hotel accommodation spacious, clean and well appointed position by beach. Too isolated from any outside amenities for an adventurous holiday. Tours from hotel very expensive, trip to Havana most expensive with very limited availability. Food in buffet adequate, but often under or over cooked. Of the alternative restraunts only the Japanese worth a visit.
Water sports very poor very little choice. Nightly entertainment extremely poor standard with only the entertainments staff offering poorly produced shows, of short duration. No other entertainment at night. Only bars situated in lobby and small bar in grounds. Staff friendly but consistently asking for money and gifts. Tipping expected but can become very intimidating.
Not much for children, no children’s clubs in operation during visit. Pool area pleasant and clean, beach OK but lots of submerged rocks, not suitable for young children. When raining only activities were darts or table tennis in lobby. Games room very poor much of the equipment broken (i.e. pool cues), only one table tennis table, 2 football machines and pool tables & a few playstation games. Room very small so totally inadequate for hotel of its size.
All in all a very disappointing holiday, we will not be returning to Cuba. Flight home also very bad cramped and uncomfortable for an 8+hr flight.
