Well where do i start .... Just got back from our honeymoon at Melia Cayo Coco in Cuba and the only word you need to hear is AMAZING !! From the moment we got there to the moment we left it was fantastic.
The hotel is fabulous! We got upgraded to a lagoon villa which was spotless and very well equipped. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Most of them speak good english and those who dont will give it there best effort.
The grounds where kept immaculate and the food was out standing catering for everyones tastes.
Entertainment through the day around the pool was fun and at night it was very quiet, a piano being played in the main bar area and the football bar which had 2 pool tables played livelier music however if you want something a bit more you only had to go to the Sol Hotel next door (2 minute walk)to find the disco.
The beach was well looked after and sun beds available all through the day.
We would like to say how good Thomas Cook were especially our rep Kathy who even through the whole Volacano ordeal was very positive and looked after those who where stuck extremely well.
We would highly reccommend this hotel and will definately be visiting again very soon.

Just flown back from the Melia Cayo Coco - it being our 5th trip to the hotel.  We keep going back because it is so friendly.  The food is superb as are all the staff who are always friendly.  Being child free is great, the manager has her two children on site but they are well behaved and not around the public areas. Orlando the barman is the best in the world - even though he did run out of some drinks during the holiday he always came up with a great alternative.  Had a suite on the lagood this year (normally have a superior room on the lagoon) and it was wonderful. Already booked to go back later this year.

We had previously been to this hotel with Eclipse (part of First Choice) back in 2005 and had a great time with a lovely room and friendly staff. However on returning this Spring, things had changed following the October '08 hurrican. To start with the buffet restaurant had been rebuilt-no bad thing, but the live music bands who were there previously at every meal, had gone! So had the laid back atmosphere and being into live local music we felt very unhappy. Nothing wrong with the staff though as they worked very hard to keep us Brits happy-but we won't be returning. Didn't do any trips as we had everything last time-but the trip along the causeway back to the main landside is a must.

Room was dirty and water leaking from the toilet, this was after waiting to get into room. We then had to pay to get a better room. Staff were at times rude and in main restaurant not good service. This is not child free hotel, general manager lives on site and has her twin 4 year old boys with her. If you have a room on the lagoon you will hear them playing, screaming and crying. Very disappointed with the general attitude of staff and the appearance of hotel. Pool area is in need of maintenance, chipped tiles and concrete slabs breaking up. The whole hotel had a tired and neglected feel. Steak House restaurant toilets were disgusting for the whole two weeks - stench was unbearable every time you walked past the restaurant.Lucky to find toilet rolls in any of the hotels toilets. However the food was good quality and the chefs were friendly. Trips were very expensive. Don't call it a holiday if you need to get up at 6.30 to put towels on sun beds to ensure you get shade!!! Beach for the first 10 days had a sea weed problem at least 2ft wide by 1ft high pile along the length of the beach - tractor appeared in the middle of the morning one day and cleared it all away. Diving centre was always closed until couple days before returning which was too late. Wind was very strong on the beach and need extra sun beds to put at end of your sun bed to try and keep the sand off. All in all not a place I would recommend and will not be returning to. Not worth the cost.

Lovely well kept hotel, with efficient friendly staff. Clean, and calm, with excellent on site activities. Beach and pool make nice alternatives. Food good. Our provider unfortunately used Thomas cook Airways. I thought the delayed outward flight was one of the worst I have ever taken. As soon as I sat on the A330 Airbus seat I knew is was really uncomfortable. On the way back an auxillary engine failed and we sat on the runway in Cuban heat with no aircon. So good hotel worth 4.5 stars, compared to Greek 5 star. Many couples I met make return visits, but use Thompson. Tours are quite expensive. We flew down to Havana and enjoyed our trip. my daughter is 24 and enjoyed he stay too. great to be without stressed families.

We have just returned from a two week holiday to Cuba staying the the Melia Cayo Coco Hotel - The Hotel does not warrant its 5* status, however, apart from its sister Hotel at the opposite end of Cayo Coco, it does appear to be the best hotel on this island. Our bedroom was spacious, the beds comfortable but the room was basic standard. The cleanliness was not great, but acceptable. We were lucky to be in a block close to all the ammenities, some accommodation blocks are quite a walk away. The poolside area has a poor unattractive surface and in places needs attention, the pool itself was often dirty on the bottom.
The self service buffet restaurant has a 'canteen' feel about it and the food reflects this, there is a facility to dine outside, but the waiters responsible for this area operate a strict 'tip & sit' policy.
There are 3 other A la Carte restaurants on site but the quality of food and service varies, despite this, it does make a welcome change from the cut & thrust of the 'canteen', you are allowed to dine at each one twice during a 14 day holiday. The best bar to visit during the hours of 10am to 5pm is on the beach!
There is not much to do and see on Cayo Coco, its situated on the atlantic coast, during the time we were there (Jan 11th to Jan 25th) we experienced spells of poor weather created by cold fronts drifting across the Atlantic, (apparently this type of weather is normal in January and sometimes February can be the same). and there is no cosy inviting bar to enjoy a drink and socialise, the lobby bar is open to the eliments and can be likened to a wind tunnel when cold fronts hit the resort,a jumper/light jacket is a must most evenings.
Do not book the 1 day fly tour to Havana, it is expensive and can prove poor value for money, because, bad organisation by the operator Cubanacan (if you are with Thos. Cook)can waste some os your valuable time.
We mark it at 6 out of 10 purely because all the members of staff (from the management to the gardeners) are so wonderful, making you feel really welcome right from the sart, the animations team do their very best to ensure you enjoy various well organised daily activities at the Sports Club, around/in the pool or on the beach. The entertainment team delight every evening with great music/dance/ballet spectaculars reflecting the rythmes of Cuba, films and musicals, on stage at the open air theatre (or in the lobby bar if the weather is cold) every night the theme is different. All the members of staff at Melia Cayo Coco are this Hotel's best asset.

The hotel is in an up-populated area, so make sure you have booked transport to the hotel. I had to hitch hike on a lorry due to a series of unfortunate events, but as the Cuban's are all very friendly, it was fine, but it is a very secluded resort!
The food at the resort was brilliant. the beach bar -which was surprisingly quiet - had fresh grilled fish/seafood served every day on the BBQ which was amazing. The breakfast was also really nice with cava / smoked salmon / pancakes every day (although a bit of a lack of fresh fruit apart from melon). I think this resort caters for everyone though because if you like simple, stodgy plain food, this is available too, but there is certainly always a luxury option.
The service was good, although waiters performed much better if you tipped them first.
The rooms were kept very clean and although the buildings did need a bit of paint, it was a fairly high standard all round.
The pool was very clean, as was the beach. The only down side was that the beach was incredibly windy, so the sand flew about a bit. On the other hand, it made it much more pleasant by the pool.
Cocktails were on tap all the time although they occasionally ran out of mint!!
There is even a gym if you fancy it. However in terms of entertainment in bad weather, i expect there is not much to do except read or watch English TV channels.
Would definitely recommend it.

I had to add my review to this site even though it is 3 years since we went to this hotel.
It didnt start off great as there was a 7 hour delay due to a problem with the aircraft (thanks Monarch) and then what can only be described as the world oldest plane arrived to take us. My husband is not a fan of flying but usually it doesnt bother me, however this was the most terrifing trip of my life. Nobody tells you that you will have to queue at the airport for a good two hours to get in to the country whilst scary looking guards with machine guns stare at you.
However when we arrived at the hotel it was everything that we had hoped for. The room was lovely, the hotel itself was stunning and the staff are fantastic.
The food was very good indeed, to all the people who complain please tell me what you want? The idea of travelling to a foreign country is to try out their cuisine, not to expect full english breakfast and roast dinners!
We went on two trips, one speed boat snorkelling trip in Cayo Guillermo which was fantastic and a catamaran trip which was equally great.
The entertainment staff were very friendly, as were the bar staff and a special mention to the gardeners who were great, very polite.
Overall this was our dream holiday in a beautiful location. To all those who complain maybe you should just stick to Benidorm where you can have all the english food you want, all the loud night life you want and whatever else you think makes such a great holiday. If you want peace, tranquility and a romantic holiday, go to this fantastic hotel.

just back from a fantastic holiday melia cayo coco
food was great and a great selection even down to veggies
staff couldnt do enough to make sure you have a good time
apart from holiday rep, we meet three other couples all agreed place was
fantastic, some people moaned and nit picked about nothing in paticular
mind you some people are only happy when complaning
hope to go back in near future

I have just come back from Melia Cayo Coco after spending 2 weeks there for my sister in laws wedding. There were 23 of us who went and no one seemed to have any complaints, and i am already desperate to go back!!!
Firstly the pictures do no justice at all, the hotel was absolutely beautiful and literally right on the beach. The staff there were all fantastic, very helpful and always smiling (although sometimes we felt slightly pressured to tip them - only downfall). Food was fantastic although not a massive choice for vegetarians.
As for things to do, you don't book a holiday miles from decent civilisation so that you can go out and do things everyday do you!!!! But there were tons of brilliant excursions which were all reasonably priced, and plenty of activities all along the beach - many of which were free!
I would recommend this 100% to couples particularly for weddings and honeymoons as it is the most beautiful and relaxing hotel ive ever been too, and best of all (which im sure you're aware from the brochures) it is adult only! :)
