Poor! by Disappointed77

I have had to double check I have the right Green Golf accommodation in Maspalomas having read so many good reviews and high scores! This place was awful!

Rude receptionists - on arrival the man on reception raced through 3 parties of us checking in, scribbled the 'how to find your bungalow' and snapped at a man that came back to say he couldn't get his key to work - it was all a bit odd.

We returned the next day to ask for an extra pillow and the lady on reception was extremely rude - attitude being how dare you ask for one and after a bit of back and forth snapping with her she reluctantly requested one...?!

Neither the Firstchoice rep nor the reception staff knew anything about golf, despite us staying at the Green Golf, on the golf course...again asking was hard work, snapped responses, almost how dare you ask me attitude.

The MiniMarket supermarket was very basic, often had run out of basics such as bread, milk etc. by mid morning and was VERY expensive - we used it only once after our initial shop there when we urgently needed milk and loo rolls (as maid hadn't left any!) and we paid 4 Euros for UHT carton milk and 2 cheap pack loo rolls?

Rep was very cheesy in style, both on the transfers and at accommodation. Very limited info on resort and accommodation (could we drink water?, which pool was heated?, how does restaurant work - as it was buffet and menu) and to our horror we had the ' can you turn to the person on the next table and tell them something about yourself' rubbish as an ice breaker at the welcome meeting?... It was all very ITV show Benidorm - suits some folk I'm sure...

Restaurant was very German in style (there are a huge amount of Germans in resort and at accomodation certainly in Nov), open buffet, mid nineties style restaurant. We ate once a la carte. Never again! Waiters were gruff, rude Spanish men who were not particularly friendly. On arrival we waited over 10 mins to be given a menu. When we were given them we asked for drinks and were told – wait! And he came back after 5 mins, took drink order, then waited another 10 mins to take our food order – it was long and drawn out and was 9:10pm by the time we ordered! I ordered a salad without prawns and received a salad with Tuna. I sent it back and was told that I had ordered it....err, no I hadn't and I HATE tuna so would never have requested this... The salad returned without tuna 10 mins later, on eating I discovered they had scraped off the tuna - problem being the salad reeked and tasted of tuna throughout and was evident at the bottom of the plate. I was charged for a Tuna salad and when I queried it was told it was a standard price as salad comes with a fish normally...?!

Bungalow was extremely loud - to the point of every night being woken by snoring and trips to the toilet by either guests next door. We were also on the North facing side over looking the front of the complex, so the main roads – it was awful. By 4am trucks started delivering either at Green Golf or Sandy Golf right opposite – it was far too noisy. We were going to ask to be move but discovered 3 others had already asked and only 1 had been able to be moved after 2 days of there stay. The others were waiting and hoping. We were 3 days into a 1 week stay, hardly worth asking given the hassle we’d endured over an extra pillow…

Maids were I think 4 times over 1 week, sometimes we got loo rolls, sometimes we didn't - despite being down to the roll on some days! Balls of fluff and hair always swirling around the apartment.

Gap under front door was massive ( a good 1.5 inch) and every single day we had massive cockroaches coming in and settling in the curtains by the front door.

Maid service came into the bungalow one day despite us clearly putting the red - do not disturb sign on the front door. I was ill in bed and she still tried to clean...?

Resort itself was odd. We hadn't realised that there was no harbour, or coastal centre area to walk around each evening and that these awful tacky commercial centres were the norm on Gran Canaria. It depends what you like from a holiday but a word of warning: if you love a history, culture and a resort with a soul, nice areas with a Spanish (local) feel Gran Canaria or certainly Playa del Ingles, Menoras and Maspalomas are NOT it. They are commercial, tacky, either English or German catered eateries - cafe/restaurants with the same old menu's. The Faro 2 type commercial centres are just that - commercial, neon lighted, fair ground, take away, pub type centres. Even the Spanish waiters call you ‘mate’!

If you want a golf centred holiday, as we did, there are far better places in Portugal - Maspalomas, despite it's claims, is not it.

  • Holiday details: Nov 2008, Self Catering, Booked Independently
  • Advice: Tacky, heartless resort.

i have just come back from my visit... by L Lambourne
8 / 10

i have just come back from my visit to the Green Golf Bungalows- it was the best place that i have been to! We arrived in the middle of the night so did not see much on our arrival but when we woke up in the morning to take a look around i was very impressed! the complex is absolutley gorgeus! the main attraction of the Green Golf Bungalows is the 2 massive pools running through the complex! You dont need to worry about putting your towles down at silly times in the morning because there is always beds free! The rooms are also brilliant- they are nicely decorated and very clean! the one downside to this place is the supermarket- the lady on the counter seems to rip you off a bit so i will advice anyone to check their change! other than that i loved it! We did not eat at the restuarant we went to the Faro shopping centre which is a 5 minute walk away- they have loads of places to eat and very good nightlife! We expecially liked the Bajo's bar- we was there every night and the waiters are lovely! so polite and helpfull! there is a bit of competition with the bars because when you walk past them they do their best to get you in, offering you free drinks!( cant complain there!)

All in all i will 100% be booking up for next year.

I am lucky enough to have 3/4... by  KH Taylor
2 / 10

I am lucky enough to have 3/4 holidays a year. THIS place however has to be the worst i have had the pleasure of staying at!

Arrived at 11pm to be told the bar was shut and we couldnt get a drink unless we went into town by taxi, with a kid in tow this wasn't appropriate hence the time. Hubby bought a lukewarm bottle of water from the receptionist after being told by a neighbour this was possible. Our room was awful, our front door was facing a wall and we had a tree in the front garden that literally took over the garden cutting out all light and allowing every kind of wildlife in through the window, on the 1st night i woke to find i was sharing a bed with cockroaches, ants, lizards etc... nice!... staff told us they would move us within 2 days once the complex became more empty, hubby went to reception 2 days later to be told to come back in 2 days when the manager was in, after threatening to sue they then threw a key at him and gave us another room. please note that the spanish take there school holidays same time as the english and they take up 90% of the resort ( not a problem it is afterall their country..and except they hate the brits)

Staff in the bar were extremely rude although i was fortunate enough to have gone self catering and didnt have to face them everyday. on site supermarket was overpriced, so its best to take the 5 minute walk to faro2 to get ur shopping. baby pool was filthy and we didnt once see it being maintained.... the hightlight of the holiday tho has to be having a drink and playing cards, sitting on the veranda with some friends we met there, to be told by security at 11.15pm to go to bed as we was disturbing the spanish who were vacating there! they then proceded to take the snooker cue of the kids because of the noise, as you can imagine it didnt go down to well.

sooooo, if u wanna holiday where u like to be in bed by 9, this is the holiday for you!

Booked our package through Travel... by Noad
9 / 10

Booked our package through Travel Republic after finding prices were far more favourable than Thompson’s.

Apartments are compact for three people but adequate. No air conditioning but the main rooms had ceiling fans. They are obviously well used but quite clean with maid service five times each week and it would have been nice to have an electric kettle and a microwave. Despite other reviews we were not plagued by cockroaches inside!

No real problems with sun beds as there generally seemed to be enough - but some did leave them covered with towels all the time. The on site shop is expensive as you would imagine but Faro 2 is only a short walk away for a better supermarket.

Both pools were cleaned to acceptable standards every day except Sundays but some of the pool terraces were no swept for a few days. Reception staff as reported elsewhere seemed ‘curt’ but once a rapport was established we found the staff to be nothing but helpful.

Lots to do on the island including Palmitos Park & Sioux City to name the best we found – if you don’t hire a car then one of the coach tours around can be thoroughly recommended. All in all a very nice holiday that all went well.

Five girls and I went for a girly... by ASHLEINE GILES
8 / 10

Five girls and I went for a girly holiday and it was fantastic. The Green Golf was beautiful, the bungalows, swimming pool and everything was just so nice and clean! Our bungalows were next door to each other and we had aout own little front gardens.. was great at night sitting out in your garden having a few drinks.

The swimming pool was amazing. We arrived at 2.30 am and went to have a look around. The pretty pool was all lit up and looked perfect! Was a great holiday and i would recomend it to people of all ages, especially young people as we loved it! Also five minutes walk away was bars, pubs and clubs. Great holiday!!

We booked as one group, two families... by K Goodall
6 / 10

We booked as one group, two families in seperate apartments (a child in each), only to find when we arrived we had been allocated apartments at either end of the complex from each other. As the complex is spread over quite a long area, we were not too pleased, as we really couldn't have been placed any further apart.

However, after two days of pointing out to the rep, the hotel staff and the manager that this was making our lives very difficult as we were self catering and planning to share the cost of food etc, we were moved to apartments next door to one another.

The complex was great, the apartments, although small, were perfect for us, and clean. We had shower trouble on more than one occasion, but each time the plumber was there within minutes to resolve the problem.

The pools are a great size, and we had no trouble finding sun loungers each day. There is shade if you want it under trees and some strange looking shelter-type things, but the rest of the pool area is in the sun all day. (I thought I would comment on this as I once went on holiday to find the pool and loungers were in the shade all day!)

If you are happy to be out and about every night and only return to the aprtment to sleep, then do so, but if you want to stay in the hotel bar, then expect the staff to be having a great laugh and joke with the Germans, but offer the English a few nods and grunts.

I would like to offer a word of warning to anyone booked to stay at the Green Golf Apartments - check your change!!! We didn't notice we were being short changed until the second week of our holiday, and after we had noticed we were short changed EVERY time we went into the shop. Even our 11 year old which I thought was disgusting. I pointed this out to the manager who said she would deal with it, then 2 hours later my brother went in and was short changed again, so it would seem it is acceptable to the management and staff. This goes for at the bar too as they were doing the same every time I bought ice cream.

It was even the topic of conversation between annoyed families around the pool!

All in all, a lovely resort but let down massively by the service they offer there.

The Apartments while bright and... by MOONEY
6 / 10

The Apartments while bright and clean, the one big complaint was there was no air conditioning only a fan in the centre of the room downstairs and the bedroom.

which was of no value at all. So you would need to buy a fan if the weather is good,

the stairs leading to the Bedroom is quite steep and is not suitable for eldery or young

children.

My party was lucky as it was only for a week but my god did we loose weight, as there was no relief from the fans!!!!!!!!! it was a nightmare.

I stayed at Green Golf with my... by C A
6 / 10

I stayed at Green Golf with my boyfriend in late June, early July. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but the lack of air conditioning in our bungalow made for restless nights and groggy mornings.

The on-site supermarket was grossly overpriced, while the food in the restaurant was mostly inedible and expensive and the staff at the resort were not that friendly.

The bar closed too early (10pm), the entertainment was dreadful and the gate card system was constantly on the blink.

All that said, the pool was gorgeous and the other visitors were nice. It's perfect for a relaxing holiday away from the madness. But if you want madness, Playa Del Ingles is only a taxi drive away. There was no drunken louts or misbehaving in Maspalomas. Very romantic for couples and seems ideals for families with children.

I highly recommend renting a car, with air conditioning, and driving up into the centre of the island. Amazing views and everything is cheaper too. (Have a phrase book at the ready though.)

Nice place to stay if you get your entertainment fix and meals elsewhere. The perfect base for your holiday.

For the low cost of the Falcon package deal, it was good value and gorgeous and I will go back (If they don't read this and bar me.)

Stayed here with my boyfriend earlier... by K Brown
9 / 10

Stayed here with my boyfriend earlier this month and had a fab time. Rooms very clean and spacious, pool area was nice and clean too, they had a large pool which was mostly used by the kids where they had spoon diving and various entertainment, then at the smaller pool was where most of the couples were as it was nice and quiet. Not a huge amount of bars and restaurants in the immediate area, unless you just wanted to stay in the Faro 2 shopping centre, we spent a few nights in Meloneras and also got a taxi into Playa Del Ingles for something a bit more lively, taxis were constantly waiting outside reception and very good value. Went to Sioux City for the second time, its a must when you go to Gran Canaria! Overall had a very relaxing lovely time, would have been nice if the pool bar stayed open a bit later so you could get to know the people staying in your apartments and some of the staff could do with being a bit more friendly! also beware the card entry system at the gate, regularly didnt work and had to go up to reception to get a new one.

Having just returned from 1 week at... by A Knight

Having just returned from 1 week at the Green Golf Bungalows I can honestly say these

bungalows are great, they are spacious, clean, all have a terrace with patio set and lounger and also an upstairs balconey. The pools are big and kept very clean, plenty of loungers to go round you didnt have to get up at a silly time to get one. The food wasnt great in the resturant but to tell you the truth it was just the same in town and in Playa de ingles, (but then again ive based this on food ive eaten in cyprus and turkey which is lovely and good value for money) Kids entertainment could have been a bit better there wasnt much going on. On arriving at Las Palma Airport you will probably be greated by very dull and cloudy weather however this soon changes within 15 mins of travelling away from it ( people looked really p`d off when they landed cos of the thick cloud and yes I did as well, but it soon changed), the sunshine was out from early morning until late at night it was glorious. I dont think anyone could not enjoy this resort

and would of gave it a 10 if the entertainment had been a bit better along with the food.

Just arrived back and we had a... by M Crane
10 / 10

Just arrived back and we had a wonderful holiday here! The apartments were the nicest we have stayed in, very clean, lovely bathroom. The swimming pools are huge and very well planned. Plenty of sun beds. We prefer to go to the beach at Maspalomas for our tanning and we walked each day, takes around 25 minutes, but the complex does have a shuttle bus as well. We did not eat here, preferred to go to Meloneras and eat along the front. Grand Italia is wonderful. Also ate at the Faro which is only a 5 minute walk away. Taxis are cheap but food and drink are not such a bargain anymore thanks to the exchange rate for us.

It's nothing to do with the complex but just wanted to add people smoke in restaurants over there without a second thought. If you are non smokers like us this was sometimes a real nuisence.
