friendly atmosphere and good value
we stayed there for one week, feeling very welcomed. staff was very friendly. good and plenty food (buffet) + every evening specials, which are prepared in front of the guests. room service reliable every day. the hotel offers a show every evening (very entertaining). overall its a great value hotel with basic standarts including some highlights. you can get there an adequate vacation. we enjoyed our stay!
Good all round value hotel in lovely Sharm
Just returned from 2 weeks staying at la Pela hotel and having read the reviews before hand was dreading it but our fears were unfounded. Lovely, friendly staff especially the bar staff, very clean hotel rooms, food was not too bad, there was something on the menu to suit everyone!
loved every minute
this was a cheap holiday and great value for money .the hotel is one of the oldest in sharm el sheikh. the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent.the room was basic but very clean . the hotel provides great day excursions.to say in one word fantastic.
stop your moaning
Having just come back from La Perla and reading some of the reviews I was dreading it . I must say me and my friend had a great time . The food wasnot great but there was always something we could eat . All the staff were really friendly including the man known as the fat controller. We were treatedas we treated them with the upmost respect. Yes hold onto your glass, but they are improvingand will listen to you. All the pool towels were newas were all the bath towels. The staff at reception were helpfull and polite , they all work long hours and very hard and are eager tp please . Maybe they dont like most Britishas most of us expect too much ! We called it Fawlty Towers , but like others have said you get what you pay for. I had a Cleopatra Massage . Which I highly recomend! It cost £30 in english money and was GREAT ! Worth every penny. We met a lot of nice people. The pool was clean . Rooms basic but ok . Shop in hotel cheap . Supermarket next door good and the people friendly. Man in perfume shop very nice and polite . I bought under no hassle. The young lads (staff at hotel) work from 9am untill 3am the next day and always have a smile for you and a friendly word. We Brits moan at everythingso just chill and put yourself in htere shoes. If you want luxury pay more, if you want a good cheap holiday stay at La Perla . A £2 tip helps you have a better stay , but stop your moaning. I really enjoyed my stay at La Perla and thanks to the hard working staff.
don't expect the Ritz, but worth it
my husband and I have just returned from a week at La Perla. Bare in mind this is a 2-3 * hotel, and not the Ritz. You do get what you pay for. All the negative comments are slightly uncalled for. The All-Inclusive is breakfast 7.30-9.30, lunch 1.00-2.30 and dinner 7.00-9.30pm. Drinks are available from 10.00am until 10pm each day. There is nothing inbetween. If you can live off breakfast food - boiled eggs/omlettes/croissants/fruit salads. Lunch - salad/fish/bread/rice/potatoes. Dinner - Fresh cooked pasta on the grill outside/rice/potato/bread/ and on special nights burgers and koftas, then you will survive the food. Tip the cleaners each day 1-2 egyptian pound will guarentee a clean room each day. Word of warning, when you return to your room at the end of the day, and your room has been cleaned, put the Do Not Disturb sign on your door. If not the cleaners have a habit of just walking into your room. The rooms are really dated, but clean, and the hotel in general is not really geared for small children. The towels have seen better days, but are clean. (advise to take your own). The staff are really friendly, which make up for the fat controller hotel manager. (he watches all the staff to make sure they do not allow you to over indulge in food and drink. If getting a drink from the lobby bar, you have to finish your drink and return to bar for a top up, with your original glasses/cups before they will serve you with another. Pool bar drinks are served in plastic party cups. The free shuttle bus to the beach runs 3-4 times a day. But quite honestly you could walk to the beach within 10mins. (Turn right at main road, cross over and walk to the Hotel Royal Paradise, cut through this hotel to reach private beach. Just tell guards you are from La Perla, and they will let you through). The hotel free private beach is not really that pleasent, and their is not much coral, therefore not many variety of fish for snokelling. Saying that, their is a private beach 10 mins in the other direction. (Turn left at main rd, cross over, and walk until you see sign for Private Beach. Turn right down to beach. This cost about 25 EP (£3.50), but you get clean beach, clean bars, clean toilets and good snorkelling. Directly across the road from La Perla is Noos Karting Track. Minimum party of 4 to get in. At the back of the Hotel, their is a fantastic shopping Centre under Restoration, named El Mercato. Here you will find KFC/McDonalds/Pizza Hut/Burger Bar/Costa Coffee/Starbucks. So you won't starve. Their are two restaurants we tried here named, On-ions Nr Entrance (steak house, 2starters and 2 mains, inclu of soft drinks £30. Also further down, on right hand side Charlestown Italian. same price again for 2 courses. Both excellant. There are no Alcohol Bars in these restaurants, but within the complex their is bar named Stella, who will come down and bring you alcohol, you just pay them seperate to the restaurant. No hassle either. If you miss an english breakfast, then you can turn directly left at hotel entrance, walk to Badewia Hotel (5mins) and their is an English Pub called THE PUB. Very friendly and a real good laugh. Naama Bay has grown 10 fold since we last went to Sharm about 3 yrs ago. To hectic and far to in you face. If you go be prepared to be constantly harrassed. Taxi from Hotel about 25-30 EP (£3-4). The animation team organise trips to Naama, but these are usually about 11.30-12.00 at night and return at about 3.00am. Hard Rock outing is 200 EP per person (about £30 each). Other than that, they don't really do much during the day. There is a lovely English Lady just started on reception, she will do anything for you, great to have some good old fashioned english service. On check out 12.00 noon, the all inclusive drinks stop, although you can still have a lunch meal. If you want to carry your room on, they try to charge you £10 sterling per person per room extra. standard time from 12.00 noon until 6.00pm only. I thought i would give you all that we know about the Hotel and its surrounding, so you could make up your own minds, and won't be completely disappointed when you go. For the price we paid for this Hotel, you just couldn't complain, we had a great time Also with it being a small hotel, all the guests just talked to each other, so it was great to meet lots of friends. If the hotel manager does read the comments - GET MORE GLASSES FOR YOUR BAR, HEAT THE POOL.
good job we did not pay a fortune
la perla....1st time in egypt, 7 guys on a 40th. i'l start with the cleaners--they were excellent and honest well worth tipping ,try to tip them a couple of days into your hols and at the end. if you are going to give them goods that your leaving behind and you dont get to see them before you go write them a note with your name room number and what you are leving them and sign it otherwise it will be taken from them. the a-i bar was a joke 1/4 pint glasses thats when they had glasses otherwise you were just stood there waiting for a drink. the main guy behind the bar nick named dvd was a joke, would not serve you if he was in a mood, keeps you waiting then starts cursing you in egyptian not nice, in the end we went to the shop and bought vodka and coke and poured our own in reception and outside whilst watching the entertainment every night. just because its a-i please dont think your going to get drunk on it every night-it's not going to happen, spirts like water and beer 1/4 of a pint a time if you can get one. bar shuts at 10pm not a second after rooms in need of an upgrade, showers rubbish. the entertainment (animation co) done a excellent job. the guy who runs it has a multitude of talants, he hung out with us a few times, and had a chat with us every morning afternoon and night. really funny and a nice guy. if you need anything just ask him dont bother with reception. (thats if he his still there in the near future) food was average not great. pool was freezing cold and i mean freezing!!. naama bay was really busy at night some good pubs and clubs. try the tavern. if you have a fly phobia dont go egypt iv never seen so many flies. stay still for more than a few seconds and there all over you. we paid £350 for a week ai so we got what we paid for. anymore than that and we would of been very unhappy. we just had to keep reminding each we only paid that for it would not go back to la perla even for that price. enjoyed egypt tho.
You get what you pay for!
We had real reservations about staying at this hotel after reading some of the reviews on here but all in all it wasn't as bad as we expected. We stayed here for two weeks from the end of December 08 til Jan 09. They really made an effort New Years Eve, there was entertainment, gift bags and an amazing buffet - all free! The hotel was well maintained and clean although it looked like it needed work doing eg) the bathrooms needed re grouting and the walls needed fresh paint but apart from that we had no complaints. The rooms are cleaned daily and the main reception area floor is so clean it sparkles. I felt sorry for the staff they were treated like people teenagers doing miltary service! Do not go to this hotel if you like evening entertainment because there is absolutely nothing not even music in the background. We complained about this but were told that their sound system was broken. There is very little seating (and we went out of season) there are approximately thirty comfy chairs in the bar area which soon go whilst the all inclusive is on and there were only seven plastic chairs at the pool bar (we used to fetch our own from our balcony) we got the impression that the management simply did not want you there because you'd be making the most of the all inclusive drinks. They are very strict with the drinks and you can only get a drink when you take your empty glass back, this is not the bar tenders fault they are closely watched by management - a bar tender got sacked on the spot when we were there for filling a half empty glass that was handed to him! The food was lovely apart from breakfast - broccolli and salad simply didn't go down well that early in the morning! The evening meal was best with a chef doing fresh meat or pasta on an outside grill. The meat is rationed, they serve it to you but will give you more if you ask or go up for more with a fresh plate like we did. We were told that the hotel was being taken over by new management whilst we were there and on the the last day an animation team turned up and put a disco on for us which was great after two very quiet weeks. There is a free regular bus to the beach which is amazing for snorkeling. Do not pay for your sun lounger matresses though - the boys down there try it on but the hotel pays for us to use them free! If you want to go on any excursions book them with the excursion shop which is on the main road where HSBC bank is (approx 5 mins walk away) they do great deals nd will give you even better discount if you are able to pay with English notes, this applies in alot of the shops there too. We took egyptian pounds with us which they don't like, they prefer GBP or USD. This was our fourth holiday that year so we went on a budget, we did not have great expectations so weren't disappointed. I wouldn't recommend this as your main holiday unless you have low expectations. If you want luxury book 5* in Sharm - there are some lovely hotels there, La Perla looked like it was the worst there. The weather was hot and sunny most days which was a bonus and added to our enjoyment. The hotel do a weekly insect smoke treatment which gets rid of most the insects and although the smoke is choking for an hour it really does work, I've never known a hotel that cares enough about tourists to do that. There was a combination of Brits and Russians at the hotel, there was the usual rowdy English circle which we spent the holiday avoiding but apart from that there was a friendly atmosphere there and we met some nice people - the lack of entertainment and seating encouraged us all to mix and chat, a pack of cards was useful too. If we had children or our teenagers with us this hotel would have been a nightmare because they would have been so bored but for adults it is bearable. I don't know what changes the new management will make but all I will say is do not go here if you expect luxury because you won't get it. We won't be going back but we did enjoy ourselves and made the most of it like we always do. So many people were moaning whilst we were there about the hotel but that didn't stop them paying to stay on for an extra week!
rip off !
what a [--] food vile and unvaried staff very pleasant and tried hard to please couldnt get a decent drink even tho we were all inclusive they rationed the food wich wasnt such a bad thing because you wouldn't want to eat it any way but if you did ask for more the person serving it would embarras you we ended up spending all our money on food even tho we where all incusive been to sharm el sheik before and loved it but this was a rip off
Could be worse.....Could be a LOT Better
Having read the bad reviews my girlfriend and i desperately wanted to go and 'prove them wrong' in our week at 'La Perla', sadly we are unable to do this! I am going to try be as bluntly honest as i can. The food was passable, but not excellent and the menu hardly changed over the week, im not a fussy eater but after the 5th day of potato, bread, rice, something trying to be meat and more potato (there was potato for breakfast no joke!) we went to eat out! The main pool was out of action, only half full and had little black fish creatures swimming in it, the kids pool was totally empty. The bar was good i always got served pretty quickly but it shuts far too early at 10pm. The ALL INCLUSIVE SNACKS advertised when you book are a plate of stale cookies at the bar at 4pm....thats it, any other snacks such as burgers, hot dogs etc you have to pay extra for!! You also have to pay for the outside bar too, so not reallyan all inclusive as i have been used to before! The room we had was fine, always cleaned well and a good view of mountains, however did NOT like being confronted by the cleaner because apparently our tip wasnt enough! (Maybe we hadnt had to eat out 3 times we would have had more left) On the Day of departure it was the biggest fiasco i have seen, we were at the pool bar at 11:45 (check outs at 12 and we were ready!) when the manager came and barked at us to go and get our things, once in our room we were told to 'Get our bags and go' ....delightfull treatment once you check out! Worst bit came when we waited for our transfer, which was two hours later than we were told (4 not 2) when i asked why i had been given the wrong time, receptionist shrugged and mumbled something about writing the wrong time, no apology! The staff by and large are good, and the area is beautifull, it really is up to you to decide if this is enough because there are quite a few disappointments! ***Heard Hotel is under new management now so will keep an eye on any developments!!!****
worst ever hotel
my friend and i booked two weeks all inclusive for xmas and new year it was supposed to be 3 star plus ,its not even one star ,there are no lifts, the rooms are very basic with stained matresses, the pools are not heated and were not cleaned while we were there no-one used the pools because of all the flies, the majority of the guests that use this hotel seems to be eastern europeans who do not seem to mind the low standards. the standard of the food was terrible we complained on numorous occasions both to the chef and to our rep neither were bothered i tried to explain that food should be piping hot when it comes out of the kitchen but no-one listened hence the food poisening outbreak which myself and a number of guests had. there is no entertainment at this hotel apart from a pool table which you have to pay for at £3 an hour,i have been to egypt a number of times and loved it but this hotel was the worst and the hassle you get from the perfume shops is horrendous,i would score it as zero out of ten and advise all travellers not to go here avoid it at all costs lynn and joan south tyneside
