Jan 2008, Mr A Glass

This hotel was the pits. My first impression was that it was a self catering apartment not a hotel. It had an old cooker and fridge in the living room which to me looked like something out of the 1980s.
The bedding was a disgrace. The pillows looked like they also were from the 1980s and the blankets - well all I can say about these is that they were what I imagine people would put in the bottom of their dog baskets - they were absolutely disgusting, filthy and smelly.
The food was absolutely horrible. Not only horrible but everything was lukewarm. It is the most disgusting place I have ever spent the night in, NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE.
Oh and the towels they must have been at least 20 years old.
A really horrible place.

Me and my friend (22years+) visited...

Jan 2008, Miss C Gibbs

Me and my friend (22years+) visited this hotel in November 2007 and had a brilliant time. The rooms are clean and tidy. Accommodation size was large and we had a huge balcony and living room/kitchen area. Staff are very friendly and helpful- Johnny and Simon were fantastic entertainers for kids of all ages including the big ones! Lilo racing and bingo- as well as the daily 1pm quiz along the poolside were always fun and kept you entertained when the sunshine was clouded over.
The food was fantastic and I think for this hotel I would rate the food more 3/4* there was a variety of different dishes, with chips and salad daily. They had themed nights eg.tex mex and we had fajitas-very nice. :) Drinks were available all day from the pool bar or in the main entertainment area in the evening until 11.30pm. (*remember that the measure of alcohol here are much more than back at home!*)
I would recommend making use of the good public transport- buses are reliable and cheap to get around. We used the bus to go to Teguise market and paid about 4 euros return for both of us- all hotel and tour excursions wanted up to 10 euros each so beware!
Hiring a car was the best and cheapest way of sightseeing on the island. We paid 52euros for an Astra for 2 days which I thought was great value for money and this was plenty of time to visit all the main places of interest on the island. Again beware of the tour operator excursion prices- as they rip you off! I highly recommend going to the Fire mountains and going on a camel ride- great fun!
I had a lovely holiday and would definitely like to return to the Los Ficus again. The hotel is conveniently located close by to bars/restaurants but not in a loud area (located at end of a road).
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

Arrived at the Hotel Ficus on 20...
1 / 10
Dec 2007, Mrs L Burnett

Arrived at the Hotel Ficus on 20 December for one week. When we arrived at reception a man in red jersey came to the counter. He handed us a key and pointed to where our room was 'over there, up the stairs is your apartment' (no offer of help) and no lifts. Being pensioners we had great difficulty in getting our cases up the stairs but eventually found where we were to go.
We did not bother to unpack as our first impression was that the place was not clean and when we checked the bedding the blankets were absolutely disgusting and looked like something you would put in a dog basket. The pillows were of the same standard and the sheets looked filthy too.
We went down for evening meal that night and were disgusted with this also. What they had to eat was neither hot nor cold but lukewarm and absolutely inedible.
I decided to go to the welcome meeting the next morning and speak to the rep. She informed me that this was not classed as a 3 star hotel and it should not be sold as such. She said it was 3 keys and there was a difference between 3 star and 3 keys. There was another 2 couples waiting to see the rep and they also were not happy with the hygiene in the rooms and the quality of the food. We were eventually offered another hotel but as it was a 4 star hotel she said we would have to pay another £500 for the week and the other couple who were there for a fortnight would have to pay £1000. As we could not afford this she eventually offered us what she called 'the sister hotel' the El Trebol. We could have this for £200. To cut a long story short - eventually we were offered the El Trebol at no extra charge.
Well after wasting a whole day with the rep we decided to go to this place which proved to be just as horrible and disgusting. The rooms and food were of the same standard. Although we were all inclusive we had to eat out or we would have starved.
I had done some research before I went to the Hotel Ficus and noticed that that it was getting good report - some people were giving it 10/10 which made me think I could not go wrong in booking. Do not believe all that you read because this 'hotel' and its sister 'hotel' is the worst I have ever been in, in my whole life. BE WARNED.

Dec 2007, Mrs Al Hunt

Myself and hubby came back from Lanzarote from staying in Costa Teguise at the Ficus last Thursday the 20th Dec.
Weather was ok mostly 23 c most days did get rain but warm to that’s what you get for Dec!
The hotel was comfy and clean food was good we found on other reviews this wasn't the case but glad to say we enjoyed don't believe bad reviews make your own opinion.
The only bad thing was the entertainment wasn't that great really cheesy! But Simon and Carla did try!
Had a tattoo done just down the road from hotel by a British guy they were brill much recommended.
Did the catamaran trip that was wonderful thank you Stuart and wife for making it a great trip. We also did the free pal trip which was also good.
Overall this place is ideal for families large or small and couples but sadly me and hubby won't go back as this was our 2nd time there next time try another country but overall a good hol.

Me and my wife have just spent two...

Dec 2007, Mr R Hempshall

Me and my wife have just spent two lovely weeks at the Ficus, we have no complaints what so ever.
The apartment was clean and tidy and it was so nice to get fresh towel's and to get the beds made for you nearly every day given their days off.
Food wise we had no complaints, there were always a good selection at each meal time so you could choose to your delight and a very good variety of drinks.
The staff were excellent very friendly and helpful also credit to the maids and the pool attendant as they worked really hard to ensure things were ready for the next day. TOP MARKS.
Me and my wife wasn't sure what to expect with it being our first time abroad but we thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely would be going again in the near future(Next year if my wife has anything to do with it LOL)
We thought the location was very good as it was in a quiet area of Costa Teguise but close to everything you needed, the walk to the beach was great only 5 - 10 minutes away with plenty of shops and sights to see.
We thought the entertainment was good, Simon and Carla did a good job of the entertainment schedule that Thomas Cook laid out for them, and there were many competitions so you could win certificates and t-shirts that made the holiday more enjoyable.
We would recommend a holiday to the Ficus to anyone but just remember a holiday is what you make of it. Should be more than a 2 Star in our view.

Me and my partner and children have...

Nov 2007, Miss K Huyton

Me and my partner and children have just come from Ficus 2 days ago and I think it was well worth the money when we got there the rooms was clean and tidy, very good size as there was 5 of us in one room. The staff are very helpful and nice to you, the rep Helen was also very helpful as we went with my brother and family and we were in the El Trebol at first but only for 1 night as Helen sorted it out for us to go into Ficus as we had many problems in the El Trebol without any charge which was very nice of her to do that.
The food wasn't that good but we had a few nights out as it was really the same on most nights, the entertainment at the day was great always something to do and at the night it was the same.
I will be going back as the kids loved it and we have never been before, but to everyone with children it is great and same goes for the adults. The other entertainer Carly was fab as she would have a laugh with you and was very helpful.
The weather there is really hot but there's always a breeze so you don't get to burnt. The pool is very nice but only when you are in it for a few secs as its very cold but my kids love it as they were always in the pool, you couldn't ask for a better hotel than that as its only a 2 star but I would say a least a 3.

We have just returned from a two week...

Nov 2007, Mrs P Notman

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Ficus and all I can say is it was fantastic, we are a family of five and all really enjoyed ourselves. The apartments where super better than we had expected. The food was great always something different, we never ate out at all!
As for the entertainment it was absolutely brilliant, Johnny and Simon where amazing, we all joined in the games, french boules, killer darts, killer pool, giant jenga, football (few casualties though) and lots more, came home with quite a lot of certificates for my husband and kids! There was also entertainment at night with a kids hour every night at 8.30 then bingo, Mr & Mrs, quizzes, karaoke, and lots more! Unfortunately Johnny leaves today he will be really missed, my daughter adored him, he was great with the kids even remembered all their names, good luck to him.
The beach was only about 10-15 minute walk away and was lovely, we found a lovely little cove, there was only us and 2 other women. There was great, the water was lovely could walk in quite a distance.
Would definitely recommend this holiday to anyone young, old, couples, families they cater for all.

We have just returned from a week in...
8 / 10
Nov 2007, Miss R Dering

We have just returned from a week in Lanzarote. Me, my partner, parents and our two young children. The weather was great every day, hot but with a lovely breeze to keep you cool. It was still warm at night, we did not need jackets.
The apartments, were basic but very clean, all have a good view of the pool area. The food was fine, not amazing but definately edible. There is not a huge choice, and the desserts are lacking and it was really only ice cream on offer. There were theme nights ranging from Mexican to Thai. At each meal there would be some food cooked in front of you on a grill.
The pool is freezing all of the time, which can prove not to be so good for the younger children. There is a very friendly atmosphere here, due to the size of the place. Jonny and Simon were very popular, I was impressed how Jonny remembered all of the childrens names!
I was a little disappointed in the resort itself, it seems to be a bit run down, not the cosmopolitan resort it used to be known as.
The holiday was good value for money, if you go not expecting 4 star, then you should be pleased with the Ficus, as it is clean, comfortable and friendly!!

I have just returned from a lovely 10...

Nov 2007, Mrs M Ackelbein

I have just returned from a lovely 10 day holiday at the Ficus. I have never commented on a holiday before but thought I would on this occasion.
My husband and 5 year old son also thoroughly enjoyed it. We booked it last minute and were allocation on arrival at the Ficus or El Trebol so we were a little dubious about where we would be placed.
We couldn't fault the Ficus and feel we got the better hotel. The 1 bedroom apartment was spotless, maid service every day bar one, no defects, or problems. It was spacious and bright. My son thought his day-bed in the lounge was very comfy.
The food was good. Plenty of choice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was always hot and fresh. The chef made fresh pancakes and eggs in a morning and there was always something being cooked for lunch or dinner, usually chicken or fish.
Drinks were great, strong and not watered down. The ice creams in the restaurant and at the pool bar were very nice; my little boy certainly got his money’s worth.
All the staff work very hard the pool guy especially, as the pool area is spotless. Although you're not supposed to bag the sunbeds before 9am, a lot did. There really is no need as there is plenty of space and plenty of beds and we were there in the busy half term.
Johnny and Simon the entertainment lads were great. They work really hard, and get to know all the kids. Our little boy was very impressed with the kid’s hour every night. We were there for Halloween and enjoyed the Halloween party and games.
The resort is good, though we had a car and tended to venture out further afield. Volcano is well worth a visit.
A great holiday. Would definitely go again and recommend it to anyone.

Nov 2007, Mrs K Rappitt

Well after reading comments about the Ficus I wasn't looking forward to it as it was given bad reports. But what can I say, my family and I had a great time there. The rooms are very basic but we had 10 days of red hot sun so didn't spend much time in there, its a 10-15 min walk to the beach which is also lovely.
As for the food it was spot on for both adults and children they were plenty of pasta, pizza, chips etc just ideal for the children. The pool is quite cold but bearable once you get in.
There's plenty of entertainment for adults and children by Jonny who has a brill rapport with the children and also the adults and you don't feel though you have to join in, he really made the holiday.
It gets a bit chilly at night so a light jacket is needed.

Well what can I say! We have just...

Oct 2007, Mrs TRACY G.

Well what can I say! We have just returned from a fab 2 week holiday at the Ficus. We read the reviews before we went, they read ok, but you still don't know what to expect. I have stayed at El Trebol before, and the rooms at the Ficus are much bigger. They are very clean but basic (but they all are). I don't know what the other comments mean about the towels smelling funny, ours were fine. Ok they don't use fabric softener like you do at home, but find me a hotel with this star rating that goes all out on their towels! The maids worked every day except Friday and Sunday.
The food was excellent. There were six of us in all, children included, and we all ate very well for the full two weeks. The desserts look nice but mostly taste of nothing, but this is the norm in my experience. Everything else was excellent. Fresh food, helpful staff, excellent entertainment, very clean and tidy. We never wanted to eat out, why bother, you have an excellent choice here, they even had themed nights which included mexican food etc, but still had a choice for children too.
We had excellent weather. Yes we did have one or two days when there were a few clouds, but on the whole we had a full two weeks of sun, fun and relaxation too. We spoke to one couple who come back every year for the past 5 years, they said that the complex stays at the same high standard, as does the food. The entertainment this year was better then in the past, in fact Jonny and Simon won the award for the "Best Thomas Cook/Sunset Entertainments Team for 2007" whilst we were there, beating other teams at higher star hotels and teams of more than two. Well done guys a huge pat on the back for that!
We did have just one moan, that because we were on the ground floor, you could hear people coming and going with cases across the tiled floor outside, and up and down the stairs in the early hours when they arrived or were going home. But I suppose this can't be helped, they can't carpet the path outside now can they!!!
We would definitely recommend the Ficus, and in fact have looked at booking for next year, and we have only been home two days!!

2 weeks in the Ficus was really good....
9 / 10
Oct 2007, Mr R Jenkinson

2 weeks in the Ficus was really good. I was there with my girlfriend and we had a ball. The room was basic, some lights not working, poor shower etc but hey you never spend much time in the room do you?
The food was great we ateat out 3 times over our fortnight. We recommend Tex Mex and the Chinese, next to Legends.
The drink was great too. The local vodka is strong and the bar guys don’t measure it when they pour it, I had a few sore heads!
Jonny and Simon were brilliant at doing the entertainment all day and at night till midnight. They even see everyone off on the coach when you go home at the end of your holiday, a nice touch I think. They are really friendly and you never feel obliged to join in the entertainment if you don’t want to.
The weather was mixed, we had about 5 or 6 days cloud throughout our fortnight but it was still very warm and you still got the rays from the sun, the rest of the days were sunny and very warm. My girlfriend found it a bit chilly at night, so take a sweater or even better just drink at the bar.
This is the 2nd time I have stayed here, last time in 2004.
We never saw one cockroach or any ants. Take you own bathroom towels because when ours got changed they always came back smelling like curry for some reason.
They even have a laundry room with machines and an iron if you need it and had free lilos for the kids and adults.
I would recommend The Ficus. As a young couple or a family with young kids you will have a ball and drink and eat as much as you want, ENJOY!
