have just returned from the a weeks stay at the maria and had a brilliant time. we were in room 38 above the bar but the noise was not a problem after all we were on holiday. the quiz night and karaoke were fun nights even if phil did most of the singing. the girls cleaning were very harding working as were the boys behind the bar. enjoyed watching alex clean the pool with his machine..........the walk to the village center was our only exercise the whole hoilday and the bars and beaches were perfect. would definatley visit again.
- Advice: make sure you go on the road train and to the greek night they advertise

Just come back from 2 weeks at the Maria Studios and had a fantastic time. Weather was very hot every day.
The accomodation is excellent and the rooms and bar / eating area have been revamped. The bed in the room was very comfy as far as beds in Greece we have had before at other locations. No problems with sleeping and no problems with noise. Ok the bar is open till late but its not loud and generally the doors are closed in the bar area.
The cleaners do a fantastic job ensuring your rooms are clean with linen / towel changes often.
Good food is cooked at the bar, the pizzas are great and the steak is huge. Prices are reasonable here.
Elsewhere for food on an evening you must go to Apollo, Paradasikio, and Ponderosa. We went to many others but these were the best ones.
We would not recommend Poporo, it was absolutely dreadful when we went.
Prices for meals are reasonable at all places and roughly the same and to give you a rough idea of pricing a Sirloin Steak is 8 to 9 Euros, wine around 4 for half a caraffe and a Mythos generally 2.50 wherever you go.
Another place to visit is Redskins just a stroll away from the Xechoriati beach. Here you can get great sandwiches and meals plus some excellent home made ice cream in many flavours. Its much better than Shoestrings and far better value which can also be got to from the beach.
To reach Xechoriati beach, go through Alikanas and turn left, keep going and then finally branch left when the road splits. If you branch right you eventually come to Amoudia beach. We had a quick look here but didnt stop so i can't comment. Xechoriati beach on the other hand is quiet, sandy, safe, good snorkelling and a wonderful getaway. There is also a little supermarket 1 to 2 minutes walk in the picturesue old Alikanas.
The beach in Alykes is also good, it's sandy and not too overcrowded. The sunbeds are expensive in my opinion at 5 Euros for 2 all day, even 7 at some places.
Its a good 10 to 15 minutes walk from the Maria to the beach and the tavernas with Apollo being the nearest and best taverna / restaurant. Dont let that put you off, the roads are very quiet and are flat.
Beyond the Maria is a fantastic view from the back of your studio .. it really is. Take a walk up the hill, its not as bad as it looks, well ok maybe it is in the heat but its worth it.
The nearest better supermarket is around 5 to 10 minutes from the Maria. Walking towards town, turn right at the salt flats and its half way down on the right.
Try the first quiet little bar just near it on your way back, here you can play pool for free too.
All in all, fantastic apartments, fantastic location and wonderful views. We recommend it 100% and would definately visit again.

The Maria Hotel was quite a good quality hotel when compared to other hotel's I have stayed at in Greece over the years.
Having said that, however, there were still some annoying little issues. Firstly, unless you like to party till the early hours, pray that you are not given rooms 38-41 as these rooms are smack over the bar which is very very noisy. We asked to be moved but the rep did not hold out much hope. Luckily a couple swapped with us and we ended up in room 35 which was altogether quieter and a nicer room to boot.
There were a couple of mornings where there was no water which was very annoying for people catching buses back to the Airport those day's. Water tends to overflow from shower area and there is a drainage smell.
Hiring a safe is 20 euros a week which is expensive in my opinion.
All in all I would say this hotel is just ok which, for Greece standards ,is good.

Just returned from Maria Hotel and would recommend it to anyone. The rooms are comfortable and were cleaned daily, with towels and bed linen replaced a couple of times during our week stay. Plumbing in general wasn't particularly good but we've seen worse in Greece. The poolside was pretty quiet in the daytime with the local English radio station played in the background. Food here is very good, the pool is very clean with plenty of sunbeds. Safety deposit boxes are 20 euros per week (a bit steep!) and air conditioning is 40 per week , which you will not need in September. The hosts, Alex, Billy and Phil are nice lads and create a really good atmosphere in the bar at night. The karaoke and quiz night were great but unfortunately the Greek night was fortnightly and we missed out. The fifteen minute walk into the resort is down a quiet road and then crosses a salt marsh. Unfortunately the verges are littered with rubbish and parts of the marsh are used as a dump. However, the resort is really clean and the restaurants are not overly priced. The Paradisio is superb but get there before 7.30 or you'll have to queue. We usually had a lunchtime snack at Macs Burger Heaven (next to Zorbas) great English breakfasts and he does a superb chilli burger. Beach is good, the local taxi is by horse and cart, the kilometre walk to Kalastraki is lovely and the trip on the white train is a must. There is anATM machine next to the large supermarket and a further 2 in Alakanas (10 minute walk).

just returned from a week in maria apartments, really friendly and very relaxed. Good food and Alex and Vassilli made you feel welcome and entertained you well in the bar in the evening. Pool was clean lots of sunbeds and very peaceful setting. the only down side was the bathroom, toilet didnt flush away and shower was very awkward to wash in and self catering facilities in kitchen were nearly non existant. You dont need to cook in apartment though as there are loads of great restaurants about 15 mins walk away, try Relax, Ambrosia and Dennis, lovely freshly cooked food and friendly service at a good price.
we took a car for 2 days and toured the island , roads really quiet and easy to drive on , great sightseeing, shipwreck and kempi. take a boat ride to blue caves and shipwreck as well.

A week at Hotel Maria, Alikes 2nd week in June. Lovely clean rooms, good size, sunny balcony and a nice swimming pool with loads of sunbeds/parasols. Add to this a real Greek welcome from the hosts Billy, Alex and Phil, these guys work so hard to make each visitor feel special. Throw in good food and entertainment and the lovely friendly atmosphere in the village(15 minutes walk at a leisurely pace). We could have asked nothing more of the perfect holiday for two people in dire need of some R & R. Only one thing was puzzling, why was it so quiet? The local people made tremendous efforts with the facilities, now we need to go and spend a little of our hard earned cash with them. We booked last minute but were not offered these apartments by First Choice. We eventually booked with them but via Co-op online and I'm so glad we checked them out.

Just got back to the UK from a week at the Hotel Maria Apartments, the staff, Billy, Alex and Theo are lovely guys they really make u feel welcome, and provide a good service to the apartments, Alex makes lovely meals, when arrived I ordered a greek salad was lovely, and the breakfasts are good too... The rooms are nice, only got cleaned twice tho while stayin there, the bins got emptied every day, but like I say room only got cleaned and changed with new towels twice when we was there for a week, I did not mind tho due to I was on holiday and wasnt going to let this spoil it, Maria apartments are abt 10-15 min walk to the centre which is ok you dont mind the stroll on a hot summers evening.... deffo would recommend staying here, and I would deffo go back... good service all round, look forward to seeing the guys real soon :-)

Just back from a week at Hotel Maria in Alykes with my wife. Hotel?, definitely not an accurate decription as this is a complex of appartments with a pool and a couple of bars. Main problem for us was the first room we were put into - room 16. This was on the top floor and had a tiny balcony - about 3 feet square. The bathroom was disgusting and having been to Greece in many resorts for 20 years, this had to be the worst. The toilet flushed OK but did not take anything away which meant that the only way to get rid of this was to flush it and hold the shower head into the pan at the same time. The shower basin filled up with water and overflowed onto the floor due the to bad drainage. There was a constant leak in the toilet so the floor was always soaking which was very dangerous especially when you get up during the night. Alex did come up and look at the tolet but it continued to have the same problem. There was no window in the toilet so, that made the smell a lot worse. We asked to move right away for the both the toilet and the size of balcony but as the hotel was full, could not be done until 3 days later. We eventually got a bigger room on 2nd floor - room 12 which had a really nice balcony and a better toilet but again, there was a bad drainage smell coming from it and doubt if the actual toilet ever saw a brush or cleaning fluid as there was always a black stain on the bowl. It spolied our stay as Theo, Billy & Alex were nice & friendly guys and good fun in the bar at night. The snack bar also served good food and the pool was area was nice. Would we stay again? Definitley not, given that a serious overhaul of their toilet & drains is badly needed. I know Greece could have much better toilet & drainage systems but Maria studios does need some attention.

Had a great holiday at the start then things went downhill, had clothes and shoes nicked from our apartment and also cigarettes nicked from our suitcases. When we told the managers of the hotel, they just laughed. Our shower broke four times and our fridge did'nt work. Also we paid for air conditioning but they came in our room, whilst we were out and took the key and remote off of us. I would never ever go back there in a million years
