Maria Apartments

I have just returned from the Maria Hotel and before I tell you how great it is I would like to moan about all the people who have given it a bad review.
Firstly I didn't see anyone get shoulders shrugged at them. If the music was too loud shut the doors. Too hot with all the doors shut? THEN GET AIR CONDITIONING YOU TIGHTWADS. As for Karaoke well I don't like it either but it was only for two nights of the week,so buggar off somewhere else for a couple of nights instead of whinging about it,because most people do like karaoke.
Yes they did play the same music in the bar a lot but if you asked them(as we did ) they would change it,as they did for us. Why are people moaning about the lack of a Greek night ? They have one every two weeks.If it doesn't fall on your week go find another one,you were in Greece there are more Greek nights than you can shake a stick at..Bit of a no brainer really but I suppose you forgot to pack yours !
This type of accommodation is really there for budget holidaymakers of which I am and for two star it was good. I have stayed in supposedly better hotels than this and it has not come up to the Maria's standards. If you want better well clear off somewhere else and pay for better.
Yes I must admit to feeling a little sorry for people who got put into the rooms above the bar cos it would have been noisy,but the brochures and the review sites did state this so if you don't want this don't book it!! another no brainer!! Anyway we noticed they would move people if they weren't happy.
I think some people like to moan for the sake of it and in the case of this hotel it is very unfair cos for the money you paid it was very good so sod off whingers!!
The Maria hotel provided very good basic accommodation.We even had a shower curtain which you dont always get!! The air con was effective(if you weren't a tightwad).Bed was a bit hard but hey they normally are.
The food in the little outside eatery was about what you would expect but it was always really nice(in fact nicer than some restaurants) The pool area and pool itself was lovely and clean and tidy and a nice place to relax.
The bar in the evenings was always very friendly if not a little mad some nights which is what you want on holiday(take them a football shirtand they will pin it to the ceiling)
You can only give very top marks to Billy Theo and Alex for being brilliant hosts...well done lads!! Let's not forget those intrepid maids who did a great job. All the staff seemed to be always there,thanks for the hard work and the brilliant holiday.

Me and my friend stayed at hotel maria last week (10th-18th August) What can i say- What a fantastic holiday! Ive just read most of the reviews from other people and can't believe how some people can slate the team there! Theo Alex Denis Billy and all the maids were absolutely fantastic. We stayed in room 14 which was on the top floor we found none of what people mentioned.The only downside to the apartment was the balcony- it was small however for the length of time we spent in the apartment it was adequate. As for the night life there it was absolutely fantastic, we went into town for a meal but then made our way back to the hotel to enjoy the entertainment there. It ranged from a karaoke to a quiz to playing killer pool. Even when ther wasn't meant to be any kind of entertainment on Theo Alex or Denis created some!! All in all what a fabulous holiday i will definately be back next year. YAMAS!!! to all the team at hotel maria! x

I got back from my stay at the Maria a week ago now and I could not have asked for a better holiday. As for one of the previous reviews completely bad mouthing Theo and Alex and the Apartments in general, that is all complete B#//&8%s!!! Theo and Alex DO NOT just offer free shots to young single girls and DO NOT ring their mates to watch the display of girls dancing on the bar!!! I went to the Maria with my boyfriend for a week and we got free shots whenever we were sat at the bar!! Not just me, BOTH of us!! The guys who run the hotel do an excellent job and myself and my boyfriend are going back for 2 weeks next year.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were surprised to find that it was ALOT greater than our expectations. There was a plug socket in our room that was hanging out of the wall, I went down and told Alex and 20 mins later he came up and fixed it. The maids came in everyday except one and changed the beds and towels and emptied the bins. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and we had a great holiday.
Anyone who says that the guys at the hotel don't care about you or aren't bothered about the people staying there, obviously weren't worth bothering about. The only thing I will moan about is the 15 minute walk to the beach and supermarket, it was too hot to walk!!! Next year we're getting a quad!!

zanti is beautifull, but dont stay at the maria apartments if you want get away from english entertainment , i .e karioke, and in my apinion bad music played so loud it was distorted, i felt sorry for the peaple who were staying in the rooms above the bar as the music went on into the early hours,there are plenty of bars in alykes that play music till late so i dont think it should be throughn on you .when we first arived no tin opener ,realy small two ring cooker , it was almost as if you were forced to eat out every night , plus to get to sllep at night becouse of the music we had to shut both doors ,which made the room hot ,in which case youd have to put on air conditioning but you had to pay for that ,in my apinion all they want is you spending your money at there complex with bad entertaiment ,not for me ,i wont be going back,weve been used to hoteliers bending over backwards for you .not shruging there shoulders as if to say not my problem, and wot about a greek night we are in greece by the way .coud write loads more of things that i found annoying but have got better things to do.

My daughter and I just got back from a week at the Maria Aprts, and it was better than I expected..the room we had was spacious and cleaned daily with fresh towels and bed linen nearly every day..and there was a shower curtain (a rarity in Greece lol) which meant no wet floor lol
it took us a day or two to settle in but with the help of Denis especially , Theo and Alex(who all run the place) and holiday regular Tony & his son we soon felt we belonged and had gr8 holiday and was sad to leave
The pool was of a good size and clean, and would recomend the poolside bar to eat as food was reasonably priced and enjoyable.
All in all cant think of anything to say bad about the place or guys running the place, contrary to wot some people have posted on here...thanks to all for a gr8 holiday

We have just returned from Maria Apartments in Alykes, Theo and Alex were nothing but friendly towards us. Although our apartment was room 39 (above the bar) it was always clean, we had clean towels and beds everyday. The pool was nice, and the area around the pool was always clean and tidy, and ALL of the staff were helpful and friendly all of the time. We will definately be going back next year!

JUST RETURNED FROM 2 WEEK HOL IN ZANTE. WELL WHAT CAN I SAY. ZANTE IS BEAUTIFUL BUT THE MARIA IS NOT. WE PUT UP WITH OUR ROOM NO: 9 BEING FLOODED OUT FOR 2 WEEKS WITH WATER POURING THROUGH THE CEILING EVERY TIME SOMEONE ABOVE HAD A SHOWER. THEO & ALEX(OWNERS) DID NOTHING EXCEPT GET MAIDS TO MOP IT UP & MENTION PLUMBER. IT TOOK THEM 2 DAYS TO GIVE US TOWELS & TOILET ROLL AS WE HAD NONE WHEN WE ARRIVED. WE WATCHED AS THEY SERVED A 12YR OLD BOY WKD ALCOHOL DRINKS EVERY NIGHT 5 IN A ROW ONE NIGHT INCLUDING GIVING MY 11YR OLD SON ONE FOR WINNING THEM AT POOL WHILST WE WERE OUTSIDE WITHOUT OUR CONSENT. ITS JUST LUCKY HE DIDNT HAVE A BAD REACTION TO THE 5% ALCOHOL. EVERY NIGHT THE SAME MUSIC BLARES OUT OF THE BAR TILL THE EARLY HOURS. YOU CAN ONLY LISTEN TO "WHO THE *(-%*- IS ALICE & "IS THIS THE WAY TO AMARILLO" SO MANY TIMES. WE WOULD WATCH THEO & ALEX LOVE TO GET ALL THE YOUNG VUNERABLE SINGLE GIRLS DRUNK(THEM BEING THE ONLY ONES GETTING FREE SHOTS) & PROCEED TO GROPE & FONDLE THEM & INTICE THEM ONTO THE BAR WHILST RINGING THEIR PALS TO COME SEE THE DISPLAY. ALOT OF PEOPLE PUT UP WITH SWARMS OF ANTS IN THEIR ROOMS PLUG HOLES OVER FLOWING & THINGS NOT WORKING BUT WERE TOO MEAK TO SAY ANYTHING. iF YOU ARE UNLUCKY ENOUGH TO GET THE ROOMS ABOVE THE BAR THEN BE PREPARED TO BE UP ALL NIGHT & ASLEEP ALL DAY AS YOU CAN HEAR EVERYTHING. ALSO THERE IS NO FIRST AID BOX ON SITE SO BE CAREFUL ROUND THE POOL. oH & IF YOU COMPLAIN BE PREPARED FOR THEO TO INTIMIDATE YOU INTO FIGHTING SO HE CAN TRY & MAKE YOU LOOK BAD & THREATEN TO CALL POLICE JUST CAUSE YOU COMPLAINED. YEAH RIGHT! THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE WORD COMPROMISE. ALL THEY WANT IS YOU SPENDING YOUR MONEY AT THE BAR WHICH IS THE ONLY TIME THEY ARE FRIENDLY yyAMAS! AND THATS ALL THEY WILL DO. DONT BE FOOLED INTO IT. BEST ADVICE GO TO ZANTE BUT STEER CLEAR OF THE MARIA, THEO & ALEX.

Just returned from our first and hopefully not the last visit to the Maria Apartments. We found them to be clean and spacious. Only downside was the shower as it was hand held but plenty of hot water when necessary. Would recommend however that you ask to be not above the bar as we were, the nights can sometimes go on until the wee small hours!!
However, what a wonderful wonderful place, fantastic people, HELLO Theo, Alex,Billy, Denis who work so hard to give the customers a fantastic yet relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
The apartments are ideally situated just out the town around 10-15 minutes to the town centre and local supermarket which stocks everything, you dont need to take any shampoo etc as its all readily available.
Would recommend this for couples and families with older children nothing much for toddlers and young families.
Found two fantastic places, Taverna Apollo and Virago Cocktail bar, both within 10 minutes walk. Apollo serves amazing food as traditional as you want it, but will also sell you the usual chips and steak, if you are a true brit and cant manage without!!
Literally stagger across to the Virago where you will find Spiros and Vicki who serve the best cocktails and get there before 10pm and they only charge 3.50 euros!! Try the 'Mysterious'and 'Pina Colada'!
Taxis are readily available from the centre of Alykes, either the normal car which is 6 euros where you want to go locally, or the 4 legged variety courtesy of Yiannis who looks after his horses very well (10 euros one way).
All in all a fantastic holiday and location, beware the heat tho!! Get the air con in the apartment for 40 euros for a week .. you will need it!

My son and i have been going to maria appts for the last 4 years it is just brilliant all the staff there cant do enough for you nothing is to much trouble for them any time night or day,theo alex billy are just the buisness ther is always somthing going on they call my son Dale little brother because they are like family to us just keep on doing what you all do best HAVING FUN and making our holiday fantastic see yousoon we will be back in 2008 cheers boys yamass TONY&DALE

My partner and I have just got back from a wonderful holiday in Maria Apartments.
The apartments are very basic and a little small but they were always clean and tidy. The shower was a little disappointing as it was hand held and you didnt have much room to move but it was bearable.
The overall location is ok and does have some wonderful views, but a bit of a trek into town. We would recommend hiring transport to get around.
Alex's food is wonderful and he works extremly hard,Theo and Dennis in the bar also do a great job.
