Me and my wife, went to Hotel Maria, last year and had a fantastic holiday, we enjoyed it so much, that we have booked up to go again for 2 weeks, 28th August 2009, it can't come quick enough, hope to see Keith, Shelia, and some of the others we met, there again this summer.

My son and i are regulars at the maria Theo King Billy Alex and the new signing Dennis do every thing humanly possible to make your holiday one to remember ,the people who we have met at maria big Paul and Gemma Kelly and Alex Debbie Karen Mandy are all raving mad we had some of the best nites laughs especialy Big Paul and his Elvis impersonations really made my and my son Dale holiday as always. the rooms are spotless the maids are fantastic the whole complex is one happy place to holiday BIG YAMMAS boys see you in 2009 get the beers cold TONY & DALE the chaps from wimbledon

arrived in the middle of no where, got room 38, above bar, music really loud, did not sleep, not a very relaxing holiday,shops a good walk away, belconey very small.sorry glad i was going home

Maria apartments were clean and reasonably spacious; staff pleasant and helpful We were lucky to have a large balcony. However, the big drawback with the balconies is the fact there is very little privacy.Bathroom is usual Greek thing -clingy plastic curtain shower! Regular changes of sheets and towels.Nice swimming pool and the on site Taverna is good.Easy 12 minute walk to town and beach; lots of good restaurants.
Weather was very mixed, as is usually the way in the Ionian isles in late Sept/Oct. We are in our 60's and like walking on holiday. Did a 10 mile walk on one occasion but to do another decent walk we would have had to hire a car.Bus service just about OK. Island best suited to young people who like clubs and loud music. We had a nice break lounging around just reading and sunbathing between showers.

My partner and I have just got back from a week in Alykes at Maria Studios and it was great! We went at the end of the season so it wasn't very busy but very relaxing and we had some great nights in the bar at the Maria! Zakynthos (Zante) was amazing! I'd advise getting a quad bike, scooter or Jeep as much more fun travelling around and seeing the sites and going up the mountains although the beach and main town were only ten/fifteen minutes away. Alex, Theo and Dennis run the place and they are great hosts and such a laugh! We loved them! The food at the Maria was yummy especially their "Maria Specials"! The pool was clean and a reasonable size and the bar is open until really late if you fancy a good night and very football orientated but they have fun with everyone! Also if you shut your balcony doors then you don't hear the bar at all! The rooms were basic but clean and were cleaned daily with fresh towels and not until the afternoon so you get a lay in! Alykes beach is amazing with pure sand and lukewarm water and hardly any waves at all on a nice day. There are lots of restaurants with lots of special offers (like a jug of free wine and coffee in Fantasia!) and quite a few bars with sports playing etc but it's much more laid back than Laganas! Be aware: don't book excursions through First Choice, go down to the town and book them locally and save you lots of euros!! We didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back next year although we'll go earlier so we can have guaranteed great weather all week as there was two days of cloud and some rain but it was October!

Big thanks to Theo, Alex, Dennis and Billy!! We really enjoyed our stay at the Maria Apartments, the food was good, room was basic but cleaned every day with fresh towels. The main town of Alykes is about 10 minutes walk but once you've eaten you look forward to the walk back as the portions were quite big. Especially our favourite the 'Olympic restaurant', the food there was really good and costs just the same as any other restaurant and looks great inside. The beach is good and the sea is clear and goes out quite far before getting to deep, good for snorkelling.

Me and my wife have not long returned from Maria Apartments, we had one of our best holidays ever, Theo, Billy, Dennis, and the one and only Alex, were fantastic hosts, nothing was to much trouble.
Yes the rooms are basic, but clean and tidy, we ate out most of the time, plenty of good places to eat locally ie Relax, Zorbas, to name a few.
All the locals we encountered were all friendly, we can't wait to go back again next year, it was our first holiday anywhere in Greece, and it certainly won't be our last, we fell in love with the place.
The only thing I would warn you, don't have a room above the bar, it can be a bit noisey at times, as the bar stays open as long as they have customers.
But apart from that the place is great.

My husband and I have just returned home from staying in the Maria Hotel/Studios in Alykes and was interested to read some of the comments other guests had to say. We are not ' pool people ' so cannot say much about the pool suffice to say it was clean and always busy. Our room was number 33 and overlooked the pool and we also had a sea view which was lovely, when the doors were closed we never heard the music playing. The room we had was basic but very nice and clean. A hinge on the fridge door was hanging off when we arrived but a member of staff came and fixed it the same day so no probs there. As for the staff who run the place they were always polite but can't comment about the other things I read on previous reviews about them as we were hardly ever at the complex. If you like staying in the complex for the amenities there and the entertainment in the evenings my review won't be any help to you as I said earlier we just used it as a base. The ladies who clean the rooms and outside area work hard keeping the complex looking really nice. Alykes itself was lovely as was the the rest of the island. I agree about the comment on other reviews about the Virago bar, we spent alot of time in there and were made to feel very welcome. All in all considering the studios are 2 star rating they were worth the money. Would we go back to the Maria hotel ? Probably would if we had the same room or a room nearby but wouldn't fancy rooms over the bar tho!!!!!

My holiday in Zante was just amazing the hotel was really nice to stay in but the kitchen was realy badly equpited and it took ages to cook food on the cooker as there was only 2 rings.
The 2 brothers Theo and Billy are really nice and so are their cousins Dennis and Alex they make you feel really welcome and they are great with kids.
The bar was nice but the nosie does travel at night time.
The pool is nice but is very deep.
The hotel is a family resort but it is not Maria Sudios or Apartments but Maria Hotel.
It is a long walk from the main town and with carrying water back it is a nightmare.
But all in all it was a lovely holiday and i would go back again.

Visited August 2008 - family group of eight of mixed ages.
Unfortunately allocated two rooms immediately above bar, room no 38 and 41.
Unless you are happy to be part of the party scene until 4.30am - beware.
First choice allocate rooms via rep.Not very interested in moving people to quieter rooms unless major pressure is applied.
Tip - Dont go on organised trips, very expensive and many people had problems - not picked up, dropped off wrong times, and left to find location of boat for round island tour - failed.Problems getting money refunded.
Hire a car - cheaper to go into town and book your own rather than through rep.
Rooms vary in size as do the balconies, clean but basic, dont plan on doing much cooking, very basic hob, sink and fridge.
Ate breakfast and occasional lunch there - very good.
Shower needs to be hand held, cannot stand under it.You need to pay for air-conditioning on arrival, along with safety deposit boxes.
Walk to restaurants and beach in Alykes town about 10 minutes.
The saving grace was however the staff - family run by theo and dennis who made all very welcome .
