It's all Greek to me
9 / 10
Aug 2011, The Pringles

We've been to Skiathos 4 times now, always in Troulos, this was our first time at Victoria, although we have visited on previous occasions. This is a very friendly well run complex. The staff were very helpful and genuinely pleasant throughout. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is due to it's layout. If you have a balcony facing out front the noise from the road is relentless, but only while you are on the balcony, and you do get used to it. The only view you have in these apartments/maisonettes is the road...good for watching the mad driving habits of the passing traffic, but doesn't make for a good photo. You do get the occasional waft of petrol fumes as well but it's not constant or suffocating. The room was typically 3 star Greek, basically fit for purpose, and they were cleaned every day. Who spends a holiday in their room though? If so why? The resort of Troulos has changed little over the years, all but one Taverna is still trading, and yes the crazy golf has gone, but hey! There isn't a bad Taverna to report, most are Ok but not outstanding but a lot will come down to personal preferences. There is one though that I have to agree with other reviews I read, and that is the Ambrosia Nectar directly opposite the Victoria complex, this is without doubt brilliant, the cost of the food is the same as the others but the quality of the food is so much better, would happily recommend it to anyone. We favoured the beach Mandraki Elias with a lovely walk through the forest of about 20 minutes directly opposite bus stop 23, but again beaches are all about personal preferences. One word of warning if you travel by bus be sure to catch a return bus no later than 4pm because the bus will be crammed packed with people coming back from Krokanarous (however you spell it) and the bus will just sail past, this can last until as late as 8pm sometimes...Oh and those so desperate do it at any price taxis that spoke to you in the morning when the bus was empty, have a different mindset in the event of crowded buses passing you by. Fantastic holiday, but it is what it is, if you want perfection and luxury spend a bit more and go somewhere else....enjoy we did.

Aug 2010, believe me it was poor

a shabby place, pool area neglected, furniture tired.
Room above the pool area is noisy with the running of generators to wash the vehicles of the car hire business, so don`t think of a peaceful breakfast or evening drink on the balcony. There is also a petrol station which sends up petrol fumes to the accommodation.
Had a look in the restaurant cannot comment on the food but didn`t like the look of the fish tank so green couldn`t see the fish!!premises look nothing like the brochure!!!If you can put up with the above it`s central enough to enjoy the beaches and bars.

Avoid Maizonettes

My Mother and I have just enjoyed a lovely fortnight's holiday on Skiathos. Sadly for us, the accommodation was not what we have come to expect from Olympic, having holidayed in Greece on a number of occasions. We were initially housed in a Maizonette (brochure spelling as I recall) overlooking the pool area, above the supermarket. We were very shocked at the poor standard of this room, having booked it as 2/3 person accommodation. If you want anywhere to stand in order to get dressed, put your makeup on or dry your hair in front of a mirror, then you will not find it in these rooms.
The 'bedroom' is simply a mezzanine platform up a very steep set of wooden steps, over the main room. I could not get into my bed other than from the end of it and scooting up to the pillow end. This was due to a huge chest of drawers and a mirror being slotted in against the wall, and leaning against the bed. There was only one drawer out of the three in the chest, as the other two drawers would not have been able to have been opened, due to hitting the bed! The wardrobe doors JUST opened without hitting the side of the other bed. The two single beds had to be pushed completely together in order to get them to fit onto the platform, there was no room for a bedside table or lamp, and as stated, I could not even stand at the side of my bed. How three people are expected to fit into this room, I cannot imagine. There was a sofa bed in the main room, and a stool and this was the sum total of the furniture. The bathroom was so small, that you could not have stood in front of the toilet (or sat on it!) without having your feet on either side of the shower tray.
After one night, we complained to our Rep, but she was unable to offer us any alternative accommodation. We ended up having to enter into a private arrangement to rent a room on the other side of the road (Victoria Nikos). The contrast was unbelieveable. A large, airy room with three single beds, wardrobe, dressing table and chair, bedside tables, cooking area and a decently sized bathroom. Plus a balcony with lovely views. Yes, there was a steep hill to get to it, but it was worth it. The only criticism of this side of the complex was that the cleaners did not always come in and we had to ask on three separate occasions for the bins to be emptied. We had regular changes of towels, but my bed linen was not changed at all, although mum's was, once. I ended up using the sheet off the unused third bed.
We will be writing to Olympic as we do not feel that the Maizonettes are up to the usual standard set by this company; we love Greece and its Islands and we know what to expect as regards the accommodation. We have never been disappointed before. I would say that if you are just looking for a cheap place for a couple of nights, then ok, book a Maizonette, but there was no way my mum and I could have faced living for two weeks in that room. The rating I have selected refers to the Maizonette accommodation only.
By the way, the Nectar and Ambrosia taverna on site was lovely.

This was our 4th visit to Skiathos in 2 years having stayed twice at Troulos and twice at Agia Parakskevi - Plantanias (bus stop 16 ) tourists to Greek islands will appreciate the basic accommodation normally found.
Providing that the weather is good you require somewhere to sleep at night the rest of the time people are normally out and about.
Panos Studios was very well maintained - Anna serviced the apartments daily cleaning etc - on Sunday the waste bins are empted only.
Panos runs the bar and is pleasant to his guests. Kitchen very basic as is the norm (who wants to cook on holiday). I would be more than happy to stay at Panos Studios again.

My husband and I have been to Skiathos 15 times over the past 18 years, mainly staying in Troulos, where we have made many local friends.
We spent 2 weeks in June 2006 and 2 weeks in September 2006 the latter staying at the Victoria complex Troulos.
We were most impressed with the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of this complex, having chatted to Vassilis (Billy) and his brother Nikos who together with the rest of their family run this complex, quite a considerable sum of money was spent to better the standard.
The pool and surrounding area was spotless, it has been re-tiled with blue tiles, it was not that the pool used to look dirty it was the colour of the tiles they used to have in the pool.
This complex is a great location for getting about as you have a bus stop directly outside, a car hire office adjacent run by Nikos, a supermarket underneath and also a petrol station adjacent all run by the family of the Victoria.
Nothing is too much trouble, unfortunately our second week which went into October we experienced floods which was all over Greece, we were unable to move from our apartment but Vassilis kindly cooked us some food in the cafe-bar.
Our rooms were cleaned every day and a regular sheet and towel changed
Visit Nectar and Ambrosia restaurant, again owned by this family which is situated opposite the Apartments and has wonderful views and excellent food.
We had a room over looking the pool, our friends overlooked the road which can be a little noisy but they enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching all the activity and atmosphere.
If you want luxury with lots of facilities then the Victoria may not be for you, but if you want value for money friendly atmosphere with a great location then I would not hesitate.
We are going back in June 2007.
Troulos has a lovely beach with beach bars and watersports facilities. After dark you have many tavernas serving traditional Greek food or hop on the local bus (which does get busy in the summer months) and go into Skiathos Town where you have a superb choice of restaurants to choose from.

This family have 2 properties sold through Olympic holidays for 2007 Victoria Vassilis and Victoria Nikos; Victoria Vassilis are maisonettes above the supermarket and petrol station and in front of the pool and tennis courts.
The Victoria Nikos are set on a hillside opposite of which is very steep not suitable for anyone with disabilities or walking difficulties, we stayed in these apartments 5 years ago the views are lovely and they are quieter than the Victoria Vassilis.

I stayed in Victoria complex with my partner in June 2006.
It was my partners 5th time in Troulos so he knew what to expect, whereas it was my first time and I didn't know what to expect at all.
I thought is was one of the most beautiful places in the world. The apartment we stayed in was at the top of the hill, but it had spectacular views. Was mad for the walk up to it.
I would definitely recommend Victoria complex to everyone who was interested in Skiathos as it was a wonderful place to stay.
The people were lovely and the apartments and facilities were fantastic.
Big thanks to billy and his family for an amazing holiday, see you again next year!

We thought this was a great place! It was by no means shabby, dirty or any other negative adjective! In fact the pool and surrounding area are immaculate, the accommodation is immaculate and comfortable!
The only comment I have is that the Municipal Works Dept had decided to lay new piping from one end of the island to the other and were more or less right outside the hotel for the week we were there!
Even that wasn't a real problem! Tim, Billy, Demi and all the other staff were great! See you all next year!

What a fantastic place, clean, beautiful and great for anyone of any age! We have been going year after year as you just can’t beat it.
I now have two children and the holiday is just as enjoyable! The restaurants are plenty and mostly all are reasonable and serve delicious food. The night life is bustley but not overwhelming. The town is really cultural and beautiful and although small it has something for everyone and is extremely clean and tidy!
I would highly recommend 'scuba' restaurant by the harbour for fantastic food, relaxation and great views. Watch the planes come in over the sea, and feed the fish in the ocean!
Transport is reasonable, easy and frequent.

I stayed with my family at Victoria complex Troulos and I was so impressed with the quality of the accommodation and service I received.
I really don’t understand why there are bad reviews about this place I loved it as did my family, there are two sets of rooms masionettes and studios the studios are set on idyllic views and easily accessed with a 50 cc motor bike or the other rooms are less than a 2 minute walk from the beach. I was in paradise with the location and the setting.
The pool was crystal clear with toddlers pool and Jacuzzi, I wish you all happy holidays.

We have been going to Greece one or sometimes twice a year since 1989 this is by far the worst place we have ever stayed at.
Poor quality accommodation, very poor cleaning and room services, don’t expect you towel to be changed any more than one a week, same for your bedding, by the way the towel is a more like a hand towel.
Steep Hill! I could not get a Yamaha 250 up it!
Skiathos is a fantastic place, just don’t stay hear! you will regret it!

We were extremely disappointed with...

Oct 2005, Mr A Bottomley

We were extremely disappointed with this shabby accommodation. The advertised "swimming pool" was little better than a swamp, with the correct colour green.
The surround to the pool was filthy and the furniture was dilapidated. We didn’t see one person use the pool, very sensible. Inside the rooms were poky, even by Greek standards. Worst of all many of the rooms (laughingly called maisonettes!) are situated directly above the taverna with over-loud music, they are also next to a busy main road with a petrol station underneath the rooms at the other side so don’t expect to get much sleep.
In our particular case they situated us directly above one of the loud- speakers, knowing that we were a family of three with a three year old boy. Despite assurances from our Olympic rep. very little was done about the noise which would go on until midnight.
Their other rooms are situated on the opposite side of the road up a very steep hill, not recommended for people with walking difficulties or with young children
Best advice? Avoid it.
