We stayed in this hotel 10 years ago and it was very dated but comfortable. The website showed lovely refurbished rooms so we booked again paying over £700 each for 7 nights. Unfortunately, we were allocated a 'classic' room which had not been refurbished and had gone from... more

We made the mistake of ignoring all the bad reviews and are now very much regretting this - and having just arrived back we feel really deflated and disappointed.. We went on a half board basis and the waiters (staff in general) are so ignorant that we ended up eating out... more

Skiathos Palace Hotel gives the best view over koukanaries its worth going to the hotel for that. The amount of steps from the hotel would be a real problem for the not so nimble. Also there are no lifts which adds extra steps within the hotel. We booked on a bed and... more

The views from this hotel are fantastic. I have been to this hotel 3 times now and each time we have been given a room with views directly over Koukounaries beach. Most of the staff have been the same people each time we have been. They are friendly and kind and nothing is... more

We used this hotel a couple of weeks ago. The only thing going for this hotel is the views from the terrace. Anything else is very basic with dirty carpets and outdated furniture. The breakfast room was full of flies and wasps. The staff do not seem very friendly. Not a... more

Overpriced, overrated, and under cleaned! I have stayed in better B&B's. At breakfast time the cereals and fruit salads were covered in little flies, not very appetising. In the evening a 4 Euro service charge was added to the bill per couple we only had 1 meal. Food under... more

Watch out in September it tends to be very rainy. Hotel was no way a 3+ star it was run down and as not been refurbished for a very long time. The views were very good and the staff pleasant. Do not use the hotel phones I was charged 30.80 euro for 10 min. Skiathos was ok... more

The Palace we think Not
What a disapointment this Hotel is ...Perhaps 20 years ago it may have been the biggest and best on the Island unfortunatley it and its staff are living in the past. From the outside the hotel is pictured high up on the hillside over looking the bay below. This is probably its best feature. When you enter the spacious lobby there is the evidence that this hotel was built when the entrances had to be grand and inspiring ,However thats where it all starts to go wrong , We had 3 rooms in total over a 7 day period the 1st was not even slept in as the view was blooked by a tree in the overgrown gardens outside ,The 2nd was with a big balcony and lovely view but the room itself was surpassed by many English multi chain travel stops . The food was disapointing to say the least and proved to be the most expensive meal we had whilst on the Island ...Really the only good feature i can recommend is thepool area and view ..But the pool is probalbly also the only amenitiy on offer ...Will we go back to Skiathos Oh yes to the Palace NO ....Ps did anyone find the Sauna ? we found the signs but looked hard and could not locate the Sauna .
Great location, lovely island but hotel outdated
Skiathos palace Hotel is in a great location, although it is not for the imobile because of all the steps, which on a hot day can be very taxing to climb. The standard rooms are very very basic, bathrooms in need of upgrading as they are dark and very uninviting. There are some upgraded rooms which I did see on my stay which are absolutely beautiful and well worth the money. The executive rooms are also very nice. The pool area cannot be faulted it is quite beautiful and just as you see it in the pictures. Kourkinaries beach is definitely worth the visit, just georgous. If you are eating in the town a must is Elias and Stifalios, both serve great food. Resort itself is very quiet, so if you are looking for a relaxing holiday this is the place to go. Skiathos town is approx a 20 min bus ride away. Overall I loved the resort but the hotel needs revamping, very outdated, unless you stay in one of the executive rooms. Ali - Dublin, Ireland.
Expensive, dated and definitely not worth the hype
My boyfriend and I always check hotels out on Tripadvisor before going on holiday and have never been let down. This time sadly we didn't. I think some of the below reviewers were being extremely kind. The Skiathos Palace is a huge, dated, monster of a hotel. It is hideous to look at and plays entirely on its spellbinding view. I fail to see why being in Greece means you have to accept a poor hotel. You could pay half the price for a room in a small guest house down the road and still have air con and a pool but you wouldn't have to fight hundreds of other Brits on tour to get your breakfast. Get room only somewhere small and then eat out for breakfast lunch and dinner. These huge hotels are destroying the business of the small taverna owners and the latter serve far better food.
Mixed feelings
Mixed feelings. Plus the executive rooms not bad, view amazing, beach(Marathia) nice and secluded. Minus breakfast is like fast food and the plates and glasses look not well washed. You have to pay for loungers and umbrellas.
Some good, some bad
Yes this hotel has parts that are terribly outdated. Apparently in the late 60's it was THE place to stay and yes most of the furniture and decor does still date from then including the bathrooms. Yes there are no lifts and being built on a hillside means Lots of stairs. Yes there are great big long dark corridors to some rooms. Yes a non sea view room is not worth it. HOWEVER we found it to be a very clean and friendly place with an excellent pool area and superb food. The chamber maid figured out very soon that we where late risers and not once did she bother us, instead cleaning our room with no fuss when we did eventually vacate it. The breakfast selection was exceptional and you could honestly have a different choice every day for at least a week. The pool area was very nice and relaxing although you do really feel the wind as you are so high. The village with a good choice of Taverna's and a couple of supermarkets is a bit of a trek (more stairs) with the fastest route being across a nature park so a torch is handy but there is a local bus you can catch for the return journey. I will be interested to read reviews of people who have stayed in the newly revamped rooms however until the whole place is refitted if you are ok with basic room amenities then this is a generally good hotel. One final note though - the internet as mentioned on their web site is actually a wireless connection at 20euro's for 24 hours. Fine if you have your lap top with you otherwise I think the nearest internet cafe is Skiathos...
Don't get mislead!
We stayed at this Hotel for 1 week. At first the Hotel looks very nice, the entrance is very large and well kept, it is located up on a hill with lots of flowers and trees, with a wonderful overview on the sea. Once you get to the room......be ready to the worst experience: forniture is basic, very very old and badly kept (possibly from the 60's), the carpet is torn down, ripped off here and there, the bed is small (tough it should accomodate two persons), the air/con badly works and it is very very noisy so that one has to choose whether to sleep or to suffer. The bathroom too was really inadeguate, with no hairdryer. The view from the balcony was on a back rocky wall. Positive points: food, taste and selection, kindness of staff at the kitchen and restaurant, hotel position. So if you expect a 4 star hotel room do not go there. If you do not care too much about the room then go there, for the beaches and the food are SUPER!! I include some pictures too.
Its really not that bad!
Having read various reports on the hotel on this website I was actually dreading my holiday this year. On arrival I was pleasantly surprised. Ok, the hotel is a little dated and could do with a lick of paint in various places, but the staff were friendly and accommodating. Our room had a sea view as promised and air conditioning. The beds and towels were changed every day and there was actually hot water every night (something of a novelty in some parts of Greece. The choice of food for breakfast was good. The pool was lovely and the pool bar was open until late. The hotel was a little bit of a walk from the village, but there was a short cut along a beachside path, although some people might find the steps a bit of a pain. I would rate this hotel as a 3 star, but you do have to bear in mind that this is a Greek island and not some fancy hotel in the Canaries. I have visited Skiathos 4 times now and the island really is a beautiful place.
Fantastic view, very relaxing, loved the pool
After reading all the terrible reviews, I was dreading this holiday. But on arrival were pleasantly surprised, ok it is not the Ritz or the Waldorf, but it is Greece! It does need updating. We upgraded our room, which had a sea view of the bay, it was about 45 euros a night extra. The room wasnt great, but it was clean, and was well maintained the week we stayed there. We loved the pool and terrace, bar and the rooftop restaurant. We usually travel to Florida and have stayed in some great hotels, but they are all overpriced. There were some wasps around but we managed to have lunch outside every day with not too much prob. We travelled with 1 other couple, 2 children and 2 teenagers. I must admit there wasnt a great deal in the evening for the teenagers, but we purely went for a rest rather than party! If this hotel had some money spent on it, the rooms, reception, corridors, it would be exceptional. We found the staff reasonably polite, certainly not rude.
Something Totally Different
I have just arrived from one of the best vacations! Skiathos is simply "must go" place. I am 29 and I still explore and go to different places, but I would like to go again. The hotel is not 4*, especially the part with non sea view, but Skiathos is not a place you go to be in the room. And what is more important- the cleaning is ok. I do not know about their official pricing as I used agency services, but it was not so expensive. The position of the hotel is the best- with the marvelous view. 66 beaches, olives and dusty roads give you a will to be active, to go constantly up and down and to overcome your problems with bees, stairs and similar "problems". The food is excellent, but waiters are not top level as well as recepcionists. But, believe me, nothing can spoil the feeling. Nothing. Rent a car is also a "must" there if you want to see the monasteries, panorama place and all beaches. I would also recommend boat trip around island by the boat ( in the old port, 10 o'clock, every morning ) in order to see Lalaria beach and Kastro ( old town ).
A wonderful view and a nice pool don’t make of this a 4 stars hotel
The hotel rating must be downgraded, until the outdated furniture and that dirty, stained carpet in the hallway won’t be changed. Poor hygiene, dirty sheets, no vacuuming the carpet in the room, worn out towels with holes, no hair dryer nor outlets in the bathroom. Some staff members were rude and others, especially at the restaurant, could not speak English. There is no elevator!!! From the lobby you need to walk an extra mile to reach some rooms. As far as food, I have seen better selection at other 4 stars hotels. The hotel policy is: we couldn’t care less! We will always have people coming in, no matter if you are not coming back. It’s a pity, because the location is great and Skiathos is a very charming island, but I would recommend to stay somewhere else at least somewhere not claiming to be the best hotel in town!
