I stayed in these apartments in 2009. The people who work there are pretty friendly and the rooms are what you expect for typical greek studios. I was 15 at the time and did not have any problems making friends in skiathos, i have been back since although i stayed in the main town which i must admit was amazing! The koukanaries area is very relaxed and there is a wide selection of watersports to choose from which means that is perfect for people of my age group.
If you are planning to stay there bring a torch! The hotel is down a track road that gets quite dark, and the road is a bit bumpy, me and my family managed without one but it probably would have been helpful.

we stayed here in June 2008.
This is where my partner and I went on our 1st holiday together. The room itself was clean besides our little invasion of ants but that was noting much to worry about.
The pool was clean on our arrival and then for the nex two days but after that it wasnt cleaned for the duration of our stay. The area where the pool table was situated was disgusting, the guy who ran 'georges bar' left his dog in there to keep in the shade, we are quite positive that the dog had fleas, after playing one game of pool we soon left that area and headed back to our apartment. We were both itching for most the evening after that experience.
We did not stay for any of the entertainment that was put on there. we were lucky enough to hire a jeep for the week we were there and managed to discover some hidden beauties of skiathos. We had a lovely holiday in skiathos but the apartments did not meet the standards we expected.

As a first family holiday abroad we where unsure of what to expect 3 adults and 1 teenage girl.On arrival we where met by Otis who was very plesant and started to lead us down the (not to dark )track to the apartments we thought where are going and how far?Nothong to worry about a 5 minute and walk pathway ok, once we got to our cases the maid showed us to our rooms, then we where invited down for a drink at the bar ,this is when we met George (a fella that would way out of his way for anyone)drinks where great cheapest by far on island, ask for Georges bar.Pool cleaned every day.mixture of music & music turned down at night as the night goes on when no bar games on,rooms where big enough sheets & towels cleaned regular.Ate out every night great food at all local restaurants and only 5 minutes to 15 minute walk so need for mini cooker, 15 minute walk from fabulous beach,25 minute bus ride from Skiathos town.Amalia Apartments great choice for our family enjoyed the whole week wish we had booked for longer.Great place to just chill and relax Definitely be re booking in the near future

Whether you want a quiet break or a real fun time this place would suit all. The night's at George's Bar are memorable and there is always a great crowd there. George promises the drinks are the cheapest on the island and if you find any bar cheaper your drinks for your stay are free. No-one has collected on this yet! Most nights are lively but the party night's are memorable, but we blame it on the ouzo. If you want a holiday you'll remember look them up at Olympic.
Within 45 minutes (less if you hire a jeep) you can visit 8 fantastic beaches and even get an all over tan at Little Banana. The island as a whole has over 70 beaches and many can be accessed from the regular bus route between Skiathos Town and Koukounaries.

we stayed in the amalia in july 2010 - location is great and not far from a fantasic beach with clear water. the accomadation its self is very basic and in need of updating ...so go with an open mind.. but for a cheap deal you cant moan!! george is lovely and will go out of his way to help you and had some fun times sat by his bar. be sure to take a touch with you to find your way home from the main road at night as there is no lighting... we brought one there for a couple of euro. They did have a problem with the wasp this year as they didnt have a bad winter. you will prob find that you will not get many wasp next year 2011. we didnt get stung but a few people did. We found that in skiathos town you would find less due to there being less pine trees about. reps trips are over priced!!... walk down the port and old port in town and you will find an island tour for 15 euro pp... we decided to go on a 40 foot sailing yacht it was 60 euro per person which included a light breakfast, lunch which the captain made him self and drinks included. we set of at 9.30 and came back at 7pm.. we went to small little beaches that can only be reach by boat.. swimming in caves.. went to island where mamma mia was film.. if the weather permits you will go to the church where mamma mia was film and be able to walk up to the church.. on this occasion we didnt get to go but will be back on this boat next year to see it.. the captain took us to other fantasic places instead. there is space for 10 people... we landed it lucky and there was only 5 of us.. loads of comfy bean bags to relax on.. and you will get some fantasic photos along the way... having worked as a rep before for 4 years i must say that this is the BEST BOAT TRIP i have ever been on! excellent value for money!! if you work it out you can go with the rep for the same price and have to be stuck up with 25 other people and spend less time on the boat. Look out for CAPTAIN KOSTA - DAY SAILING you wont be let down... his in the port..if you walk half way down when you get of the bus in town.. you will find him!! i cant rate him enough!!

I was really disappointed with Amalia Apartments, this was a last minute holiday and cheap but it was a bit of a nightmare. The accomodation was for six people there were only two of us, it was cold dark and miserable, the tap in the kitchen just spun round, the cooking facilities did not work. Towels were hand size and only 1 toilet roll all week. The whole place needed tlc, childrens area full of two foot high weeds, workmen working on some apartments hence hammering and drilling all day when you sat by pool. Pool very small and not very clean. Bar had music playing constantly but very little else. TV 25 euros per week. To get to accomodation 8 - 10 minute walk along very poorly lit and hard under foot path. Would I go again, not for free. Koukounaries very expensive for everything, food drink even supermarkets. Didn't have a good meal all week regardless of how much we paid. I love Greece and have been to lots of different islands, this one is very beautiful but way out priced.

We stayed at the Amalia studios, having read several reviews and, before going, worried about the noise from the bar music that was mentioned by quite a few of them. I even bought ear-plugs, just in case! We stayed in a block slightly away from the main hotel building and there was absolutely no noise at all. The bar was great with a really good welcome from George and his brothers. They played a great selection of music, and it was only loud enough to hear around the bar area. The appartment was really well-equipped, spotlessly cleaned each day except Sunday, spacious and airy enough not to need air-con hire (temps were 30+ in the day). All in all it was really good value and we had a very pleasant stay. I would go back again!

I visited Amalia apartments in the summer of 2007 with my family. When we arrived we thought it was quite pleasant and quiet which was nice. We had a room in which was situated at the front of the pool, this sometimes got really irritating because people would block the doors with their sun beds so we could not open the french doors for some fresh air. The cleanliness of the apartment was good, but the i feel the bathroom lacked in cleanliness. The pool was small yet refreshing, it is child friendly and had a variety of floating toys to play with. There were sun beds around the pool which was good unless you got a seat. The bar was nice, the food (: but one thing which was disturbing was the music, it would be played from something like 10 am until very late at night sometimes until maybe 2 or 3 am which was annoying, it would leave you very tired as the noise was to loud to able to sleep.
The rest of the holiday however was very excellent as we were able to have the opportunity to take day trips to places such as athens and the sunset boat ride. The beach was not a long walk from the hotel and it was beautiful. The main town was beautiful and it was lovely to see in on screen while watching Mamma Mia.
Skiathos was a beautiful island however if i went again i would not stay in the Amalia apartments.

We found Amalia to be delightful, friendly, convenient and extremely good value. We'd stayed in other apartments in Koukounaries and this was far more pleasant. The rooms were large and adequately furnished all with balconies.
The pool and facilities are good and everything you need for a family holiday. It's very child friendly.
In the evening the bar is one of the best in Koukounaries and has an air of exclusivity. George is, as everyone says, the perfect host and eager to please.
Much has been made of the 200m walk to get to Amalia but in fact we found it to be an enjoyable feature though at night with a buggy it must be trial. Setting the apartments back into the trees is far more pleasant than if they were roadside.
A defining characteristic is the music which is present from 11am sometimes to 2am if the punters require. Whether it's a boon or an irritation depends on your mood. George obviously has an 80gb ipod on shuffle and he definitely plays an eclectic mix. You find yourself compiling a list of tracks to add to own ipod.
Amalia has easy access to Koukounaries beach at the top end near the quay. Banana and Little Banana beaches are at the other end of the strip of restaurants. Buses to Skiathos are every 10 minutes.
We find Skiathos has everything you require for a Greek island yet it's inexpensive and convenient. It's quite bustling in Skiathos town where there are some charming restaurants yet it easily retains it's Greek character. If you follow the tracks to the unpopulated side of the island you can find yourself in an utterly beautiful, remote and unrivaled setting.
Will we go again? Definitely..

Stayed here in 2004 and it was ok. Went back in 2007 and found it very noisy until 2-3am which we did not want,we ended up staying up late because there was no chance of sleep until then. The apartments were very clean and bedding was changed while we were there. The beaches are great, so is the food in the area ,the Agustera bar is really good.
Going back this year but to a different complex where we hope it will not be as noisy.

I haven't been on a lot of holidays but the room was shocking, especially for the amount paid. I felt more like I was on a training camp than a holiday at first. The surrounding is lovely though, the gardens and the quaint bar. Swimming pool isn't big but its not a big place anyway so it was never packed.
Its only 8 minutes walk to a great restaurant, the Big Bad Wolf, a cocktail bar, a doctors and a shop, about 15 minutes to Koukanaries beach and then 30 minutes to Banana Beach. But its a long bus ride to the main town, and I feared for my life everytime we went on the roads as there doesnt seem to be a lot of rules!
I think this is a brilliant place for adults to make friends and go back there every year like my parents are doing, but as a teenager, I didn't enjoy it.

We arrive last week slightly apprehensive as i had read some of the not very flattering reviews, but when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised, the walk though the woods mentioned frequently as arduous, was NOT AT ALL, it's a flat dirt road which we managed 2/3 times day at all hours with a push chair. In fact we felt the pleasant walk though the trees was a nice part of the holiday. The staff e.g George and Otis are very friendly and helpful, if you are lacking something in your room, don't complain about it ASK, chances are they can help you. Martin our rep. was also very friendly and helpful. Our room/apartment was basic but clean and tidy, the staff came in once a day to clean etc. The towels are small but really who cares, we had brought beach towels with us anyway. We have a two year old and found the Amalia to be child friendly, we were in a block a little away from the bar and although my husband i could hear the music when were sat on the balcony area in the evening, it certainly wasn't loud enough to keep us or our son awake. Actually we enjoyed the music, of which there was a good mix. Koukounaries is pleasant, the beach lovely, and the bus service along the south of the island frequent and excellent, but to see the whole of the island i would recommend car hire,to see other beautiful, quieter beaches and go to kastro at the far north of the Island it's spectacular! We had a great holiday and would return in a flash. Value for Money!
