We have just stayed at this hotel for 7 days and were very disappointed. The rooms are so outdated and need updating into the 21st century not the 18th century. The bathroom was awful we had two sinks but only could use one as the other was always blocked. The cleaning... more

nice hotel, however rather shabby for a 4 star hotel, the carpets should have been replaced years ago!! The decor is very 70's,(I knew I should have packed my flares and kipper tie!!) You have to pay 7.50 euros (daily, or 25 euros per week))to use the Gym, you pay for... more

Very nice hotel with kind people working. Good entertainment... Every day there is LIVE music, but three times a week there was a superb pianist playing in the Blue Bar, called António Maia. This was the best pianist I ever heard. Good swimmingpool and for people who wants... more

This was a really nice hotel to stay at. But being 20 i wanted a bit more life which i found just seconds away at the STRIP loads of bars and shops. This hotel is suitable for older people who want to relax as there is not much going on in the place. there was no night time... more

I went to this hotel with my boyfriend and we had a great time. We never had any trouble getting a sun bed there were always plenty. Getting served at the bar was nice and easy. We were B&B which was fine as there were plenty of places to eat out nearby. Well worth a trip... more

The hotel Montechoro was very nice but needs updating -- faded and threadbare carpets worn furniture are not the mark of an 4star hotel- but saying that the staff couldn’t be more helpful and the rooms are large and clean. The hotel is at the top of the Strip where all... more

Myself and my son(15) returned on the 26th July 07 from a fantastic 1 week holiday in Portugal. We were supposed to go to the caleta dorada bungalows but after reading the reviews I decided to cancel. We stayed in the Hotel Montechoro, which while a bit dated was spotlessly... more

Terrible Selection Of Food.
Just arrived back from a weeks stay here with my Partner, her sister and husband half board.( Breakfast And Evening Meal) The Hotel was overall very clean the Rooms, Pool etc. The selection of food at break fast and evening meal was absolutely pathetic for a four star hotel and we found ourselves spending our holiday cash eating out.So take plenty cash with you!! We also had a problem getting a fridge which my Partner required for her medication and had to wait 3 days.During these 3 days my Partner had to leave her insulin in the Sink!!The Staff were not interested when I complained and only shrugged their shoulders. So a very expensive Holiday in all and not Value For Money!!
Montechoro Hotel August 2007
We stayed for the second year in a row at the Montechoro Hotel. 2006 was good - although the rooms were dated, they were cleaned well each day. This year we noticed a few suttle differences - the rooms were cleaned every day and the towels changed but attention to detail was not apparent second time around The hotel is still dated and to get a place by the pool you need to be up at the crack of dawn as the towels seem to appear from nowhere! Signs are in place asking guests not to do this but he ho! Go to the pool around the corner - a lot quiter and better for children. Do not leave your inflatables by the pool. We caught the pool attendant bursting them with his keys and throwing them over the hedges at the end of the day!!!! I have reported this to the agent we booked with. Overall, a good holiday but a cockroach in the room on the last day spolit it for me! All in all - we had a lovely time and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
so much fun
it was awesome here i loved it so much!! the hotel was overall nice and the buffet food was AMAZING. breakfast, lunch AND dinner was overall delicious. the pool is nice the only downfall is that it is kinda far from the beach. but there is a five minute hotel shuttle that takes you directly there. just dont expect like a BEACHfront hotel because this is not it. lots of tennis courts! the weather is gorgeous... and now for the best part in the entire world... THE NIGHTLIFE. OH MY GOSH PEOPLE, if you have never been here you are missing out so bad, you would 2 mins from the hotel and the "Albufeira Strip" begins.. it goes on for so long and all you will see is CRAZY CLUBS AND BARS!!!!! they are amazing ith great music...the entire atmosphere is ridiculously amazing. i miss it so much.
Thanks to The Hotel Montechoro - It was Excellent !!!!!!
When reading the reviews below, I think some of these people where at a different Hotel !!! Myself, my husband and my two kids (aged 6 and 2) had a great holiday. We could not fault a thing about this Hotel. On arrival, we found our room excellent, spacious and exceptionally clean. Maid service everyday ! The pool area and pool bar where great for the kids. The kids entertainment girls would come to the baby pool every day to play games and activities with the kids. At night 8.30-10.30pm was the kids disco, with kareoke, musical chairs, limbo etc. A weekly parot show is on a Tuesday and the Hotel BBQ is on a Wednesday with entertainment. Also there is a more sophisticated bar with live singing. Children are also welcomed here. in the mornings, there was a great selection of bread, crossants, cerials, fresh fruit, cold meats, chesse, bacon, sausages, eggs etc, served buffet style. The pool bar snacks were also very good. For most of our two week holiday, we stayed near the Hotel to eat, but for 4 Euro you can get a taxi to "The Old Town". This is well worth a trip.Loads of bar and Restaurants, unique atmosphere. Live band in street, fire eaters etc . Just fabulous !!! Also worth a trip is the Zoo Marina. See the Dolphins, Seals, Bird Shows etc. Kids Loved it. To sum up, we had a fantastic two week break. We'll be back next year.
Good place to stay - but not perfect
Myself and my partner have just returned from a weeks stay in the Hotel Montechoro. I thought i'd share my opinions of the property with yourselves;- Rooms - previous reviews are correct when they say that the rooms are a little dated, we found this is to be the case, the carpets were very rough and there were large patches were the sunlight had faded the carpet - this has obviously not been replaced for some time. They are however very spacious. Word of warning though - the air con in the rooms is very poor, it did nothing to cool the room if anything it made it more unberable when warm, Food - the breakfasts in the resturant was very limited for choice, it was well cooked and presented but if staying more than a week the lack of choice could grate on you. It was either - bacon, eggs, beans or sausage, egg, beans. Fresh fruit and bread a plenty though. Prices / Bar - VERY EXPENSIVE, 2 alcoholic drinks (spirits) in the hotel bar cost upwards of 13euros. Poor considering the supermarket across the road sells a bottle a spirits for the same price as a shot. Food is also expensive, approx 8euros for a sandwich. Pool - even though there are numerous signs around the hotel advising sun beds cannot be reserved, this rule was not been adherned too - 99% of the sunbeds had been reserved by 9am and at times they were not been occupied until midday - 1pm if at all. early rise is recommended if you want a sun bed!! Location - excellent, right at the top of the strip.2 min walk to all the resturants, pubs and clubs. No noise at all. Tip - take advantage of the offer of a fridge. 4 euros per day is good value, we would buy some meats, juice, bread from the supermarket across the road and make our own lunch. Overall we were happy with the stay, but we would of been disappointed if we had paid 'top dollar' - we managed to get a good deal online - which seems to be the best thing to do.
Portugal loved it
The Hotel I must agree is a little tired in places but I heard Petchey had bought it so I suppose they are not going to do it up, it not awful its clean and the rooms are very spacious, the largest room we have ever had, the balcony was very small, im used to sun loungers, and the pool area I thought was small and I could never get a lounger, people put towels on Im sure for the day and go out, but thats every hotel, most of the staff I found really pleasant apart from the girl in the shop who could be very rude and the old guy with glasses in the azur bar, thats all the complaints now for the best. They have a resturant on the top floor and have a romantic evening on Thursday, this was a lovely evening, you are treated to first class service and the surroundings are just spot on. The hotel is situated in an excellent place, at the top of the stripe you heard nothing from the stripe at all, only the odd 4am idiot singing and shouting walking past. WATCH OUT FOR THE TICKET louts, they pretend you've won something assure you in not time share before you know it your on your way to a hotel, well to save you time, you will be there approx 4 hours, they will trail you around differenct hotels and the prices are red season 9k and blue 5k, so there you know. they opperate at the crossroads mid stripe ps they also want a 200 quid deposit, so dont think you can say yes to get them off your back. The old town, well, I can not say how beautiful this place is, you can get the this via the train or taxi (about the same price if two) The trips we used the lady across from the hotel next to Erin Bar shes english and really helpfull she tells the truth and advises if its cheaper to go via there bus or taxis then she sells you the entrance ticket with discount and its true I checked Another thing I found the trips we booked AQUA Show, the casino night and a few more were really good and you seemed to get loads for your money, for instance the Aqua show had fab slide, and a roller coasters that went in the water, wave pools and parrot shows, and birds of prey shows which were brill, we really needed more that one day, also the food when you get in its a reasonable price, we did not feel we had been ripped off at all and to be honest we were waiting for it to happen all hol. The portugese evening, everyone to there own taste but this was awful. We went to Balhia golf few mornings 4 euros in taxi only on the putting and driving range about 15 euro to hire the clubs, then had lunch at the club house with the most amasing views, again lunch reasonable Went to the Casino night in Vilamora (booked trip) a little expensive I thought a first, but what an evening fantasic show and fab meal in a first class place. I could go on forever all in all a brill place, hotel location great, hotel a bit tired but very clean, if you go have a great time
Badly needs rooms updating
The Hotel is very clean with excellent staff, whom we found friendly and helpful. The maid service was excellent, with the room spotless and cleaned every day. Breakfast was uninspiring, with limited choice of hot food and pretty much the same every day. The rooms are very spacious, but are badly in need of refurbishment. The bathrooms in particular need updating (the brass overlay on the taps has worn away - so it must have been some years ago they were installed) and the shower is like a fire hydrant! The hotel staff work really hard, but they are being let down by the aging nature of the rooms. If they upgraded the rooms, and did a little more with the breakfast, I think this would be a cracking hotel worthy of its 4* rating.
Great Hotel
The hotel was clean and well run and all staff were friendly. The breakfast included was excellent and the whole experience represented superb value for money. Great facilities and 4 swimming pools. The only downside to the experience was ridiculous price of drinks from the pool side bar 2.20 Euros for a can of coke and you were not allowed to go and bring in equivalent 55 cent cans from the supermarket!
Nice hotel
This was a very nice hotel that suited us and our needs. However the lifts didn't reliably go to our floor and the towels were like sandpaper.
not 4 star, but not bad for the price we paid.
Booked through seguro holidays at the end of April, and flew from Prestwick to Faro on 18th June 2007 for a week to the Montechoro hotel. All flights fine, although people flying out on the thursday by the same company and route suffered a 6 hour delay due to a cabin crew dispute or something. Rep at the hotel all but one day in half hour slots specified, very helpful, as were reception staff, apart from one occasion. Waiting for the free shuttle to the algarve shopping centre (worth a visit) we were not told it was not coming as it had filled up at the last hotel, and waited over half an hour on it before being told, when it would seem clear to me that they knew what we were waiting for. Breakfast was fine, large choice of breads and cereal, though if you want toast best put it on the night before otherwise you just get lukewarm bread. Fried breakfast appeared fine thought fatty bacon (being vegetarian i never tried any of it). Bars in the hotel reasonably priced, though not far from the cheaper bars of "the strip". Buses to abuferia from the hotel ran to time, never used the beach bus always walked, but it appeared to run to time as well. Location of the hotel in relation to the beach is quite a distance, but plenty shops and bars etc to stop off in. Pool was getting more busy as the week went on, and was very cold. not very deep though so good for the weaker swimmers! Entertainement through the day at the pull consists mostly of water polo like games. Didnt participate. Sunbeds kept in check by a man who walks around and checks that noone leaves a towel on a sunbed without being on it for more than two hours. You can hire a fridge for 4 euros a day, though we didnt find this out until our last night. Room cleaned daily and well, only complaint is perhaps bathrooms need an upgrade, there was a large crack in one of out basins. The hotel itself seemed clean, though carpets frayed in places. Overall, a lovely hotel, but not the four star it is advertised as. Also, being from scotland and used to smokeless public places, it seemed quite smokey.
