We have just returned from 2 lovely...

We have just returned from 2 lovely weeks in Barbados, nay 2 fantastic weeks!
We have been to Barbados 3 times now, 1998, 2006, and 2008. Each time having a
fantastic time. Barbados if you want a lovely, safe place to chill please don’t be afraid to go.
We stayed at South Gap hotel right on noisy end of THE GAP, that’s all you ask for on very frequent boogie bus and local blue government bus > each one charges 1 and a half
Bajan dollars about 34P for as far as you want to go ,a good day out is catch big blue bus to Speightstown on the west coast, Barbados 2nd biggest town, busses run 10 past and 20 to the hour from Oistins 4 k away, while in Speight’s town eat brunch at THE FISHERMANS PUB on the sea front, 7 mins walk from bus station ,cost 2 meals and 2 beers 27 Bajan approx 6 pound 50 p.
Oh a good one to go for ,eat where locals eat for low prices. The hotel we stayed in was lovely on 4 floors you walk in street level then down to pool and bar and sun deck very nice and quiet ,bar closed on average 9.30 at night ?? the rooms on these levels could Not hear noise from street behind hotel BUT on other 2 levels apparently v/noisy.
Staff were great .. rooms very comfortable. We had studio with kitchenette as you walked in . Fridge freezer v/cold, microwave with clock, toaster ,kettle coffee maker 2 ring moveable hob, adequate cutlery for 2 .?? sharp bead knife ,good tin opener ,BOTTLE openner. No cork screw??. into bed area - large wardrobe with safe iron and board. Mirror doors on wardrobe.2 comfortable single beds ,specify if you want them, some rooms have not so comfortable double beds. dressing table with 4 draws and a mirror. 20 inch TV on wall a few channels to watch but not a lot .one channel fox.com soccer showing premiership footie mostly repeats. One ? lounge chair and coffee table ,AIR conditioning and big ceiling fan with lights . Double patio doors that slide right open to balcony with 2 wicker chairs large table to eat brekkie off. slatted railings so you get full view of sea etc. Oh you get sun on balcony by about 7 30.and goes off about 5 50. Then you get to see some of the most fantastic sunsets in the world.
The bar and restaurant below us on deck level is franchised out by hotel and does not really know what to charge yet so we found it a trifle expensive?? banks beer half pint bottle and a rum and coke 10 Bajan dollars aprox 2pounds ,70p ok not expensive ?? but you can find local bars or sheds as they seem to be where you can get drunk for20 dollars!!! they do happy hours 12.30 to 1.30 and6 to 8 where you get certain drinks 2 for one.
As do most bars and restaurants on the gap , and you can usually find one at most times of the night ?? restaurants around you serve nothing spectacular fare but appear to charge about 130 Bajan for 2main courses and a bottle of wine.
We did eat in off the street outside a few times where food sellers set up every night where you could buy a mix of chicken, fish ,macaroni pie, rice and peas etc. just to finish off there are 2 large supermarkets within a 20 minute walk off the gap selling 6 bottles of banks beer for about 10 dollars bottle of You rum from 8 to 12 d0llars wines slightly more expensive 25 to 35 dollars a bottle . You can drink Barbados water as it is coral filtered naturally and is some of the purest water in the world.

This hotel is only 20 minutes away by...

This hotel is only 20 minutes away by coach from the airport in the south of Barbados. It is located up a one way street that is in the slightly more up beat part of St Lawrence Gap.
There is a night club and a few pubs across from it and hotels either side.
The hotel itself was very nice, nice but basic. It had everything you would expect from Self Catering appartments. The room had a sink, fridge/freezer, toaster, small hob for pans, TV, balcony, hairdryer and shower. As you can see from the video the room was very clean, and tidy and came with built in wardrobes for storing your clothes.
The hotel itself didn't have a restaurant but you could order food from the bar at the pool which was very nice. The bar had most drinks but I would recommend the local rum and beer (Mount Gay and Banks).
The pool was good, temperature was fine, although some days it gets cleaned and you can't really get in til Midday.
The back of the hotel looks onto the sea, so its quite impressive seeing the waves batter off the wall. This lead to an abnormal amount of crabs too, but they always ran away when you tried to go near them.
The only issue I had with the location was the noise at night from the clubs, I don't easily fall to sleep. However it wasn't really an issue on this holiday as most nights I had had quite a few rums and conked out within 5 mins, but if you find it hard to sleep with noise none of the hotels along the street are likely to be suitable.
On the street outside the hotel at nights is also loads of people with BBQs (street meat). The food is fantastic and costs peanuts.
The locals were very friendly, although you can get harassed quite a bit for a taxi, even if you are only walking across the street.
All in all, we had a pleasant stay. If you are looking for a place to crash or a stop off point while you are there this hotel is ideal. For families I would recommend going somewhere quieter!

St Lawrence Gap itself is a little...

St Lawrence Gap itself is a little area off the main highway - packed with bars, clubs and restaurants that caters for most holiday requirements. It tends to be quiet during the day when most people head off to the beach about 1km away, but at night it is a very lively, active and noisy place!
The South Gap Hotel is a perfect base for the younger holidaymaker with entertainment only a stone’s throw away. For families however I would imagine that there would be alternative places that would cater more adequately. If you are after a few quiet nights, ensure that your room doesn’t back onto the main road.
The swimming pool and surrounding areas are very clean and well looked after. Staff in all parts of the hotel are very friendly. The bar has 2 happy hours – from 12.30 – 1.30 lunchtime and 5.30 – 6.30 dinner time which makes drinks very competitive in the area (although this works out to be non-tourist prices when it is 2-4-1.)
All in all a great spot.

A group of 27 us were lucky enough to be based at the Ocean South Gap Apartments during a business networking event. Based right in the heart of the St Lawrence Gap, these apartments provide you with immediate access to everything you need to enjoy your holiday in Barbados.
Opposite the hotel is the famous Ship Inn, and a 2 minute walk will take you to McBrides - both providing a great place to enjoy a night out. Although these apartments are in the busy part of town, you don't notice any noise at night, as all rooms face the ocean.
The facilities within the hotel are relatively limited, but as a base, you could not ask for a better location. All amenities such as convenience store, beach and internet cafe are only a short walk away. The food at the hotel is cheap and cheerful and the pool and surroundings are always spotlessly clean. The hotel has a bar next to the pool, where some of the friendliest and most helpful staff I have ever had pleasure of meeting are based - especially 'Captain T'.
The room I shared with 2 other adults, was always clean and had ample of space. A microwave, electric oven, fridge freezer, kettle etc were found in the kitchen area and we had a balcony big enough for 4 people.
Don't be put off because the hotel isn’t located on the beach, as it's a pleasant 5 minutes stroll away during which you will come across bars, restaurants, shops and dive centers.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to St Lawrence Gap who wants to be close to the nightlife and at the same time, can escape the sounds in the early hours of the morning.
