Plaza Hotel

I have just returned from the Plaza and found that there is building works across the road on 1 side of the hotel just behind the NH hotel. Due to the noise most of the night it was immpossible to sleep in the bedroom. The resturants had very poor service but the food was ok. The bar on the roof has a very friendly barman, however the rest of the hotel didn't seem that friendly.

we were at the plaze in july and found it a very friendly place with helpful staff. the room was fine, clean and cleaned daily, with a big bathroom and a tv - but no remote control. the buffet breakfasts on the terrace were superb with a wide choice, including eggs fried as you like them and eggs boiled soft or hard, various types of bread and cakes, cold meats and cheese, fruit, juices, coffee, cereal, yoghurt, plantain, sausage ...and much more! the hotel´s situation is great - in the centre of things, with cocotaxis, old car taxis and bicycle taxis all nearby for trips further afield...and the camel bus passes nearby too ~worth taking a ride for the experience! we didn't use the hotel´s restaurants for any lunch or evening meals, since we were always out exploring, so can't say anything about their quality. the entrance hall and bar roof multicoloured glazed windows (look up!) are beautiful. some people seem, from reading the reviews, to have not had such a good time...but we give the place an unconditional thumbs up - apart from the missing tv remote!

This was my 5th trip to Havana, 1st to the Plaza. The entrance is beautiful and I have to say the staff were very pleasant on arrival. Location of hotel is great being central and one of the reason I chose the Plaza. The bedrooms that we were offered were however a disgrace. They stunk and were damp, the curtains hanging off the windows. I asked for another room which they offered but it was no better and was promised a better room in the morning. I slept on my beach mat as the bed was so damp. The pillow was pathetic, feather and had no protective cover between pillowcase. I could not even get washed as the shower was broke, the sink only gave a tiny trickle and the plug did not work, so no chance of washing there. The airconditioning did not cool the room in any way. As for the toilet I would not use it. The rooms I was offered in the morning were no better, thankfully my holiday company arranged a quick transfer. This is the only time that I have been unhappy with my Havana accomodation. Please note there is also extensive building work going on. Sadly the breakfast that was on offer the morning I was there was of poor quality. I do not have my pictures back yet but I have photographed room to send to my holiday company to advise against sending people there.

We stayed at Plaza Hotel for 6 nights and just loved it!!I and my friend want to thank the Hotel and its staff for our nice stay (october 1st-6th,2005) We were very satisfied, liked the beatiful Hotel and its perfect location and the region as a whole also the breakfast was great!! It was our first visit to CUBA,but surely no the last!! The room was very clean, we found it conforting to have a safe in the room (free of charge!!)also the Hotel is right in the middle of things good service from the front desk especilly from GILBERTO he makes our stay perfect he tell us about a very good restaurant called "LOS NARDOS" If you are in la Habana you must stop at this restaurant is infront of the CAPITOLIO. I would most definitely stay here again and recommend it to all friends and family.. Thania & Adriana

We stayed at the Plaza twice, in 2001 and again in 2003. It has a fantastic location right in the heart of old Havana, which is an amazing place. Anyone travelling to Havana will find themselves spending most of their time in this area with all it has to see, therefore this hotel is an ideal base. Decorated in Marble it has the look of Havana from years gone by. However up close it is a little faded and some things don't work, But that is in keeping with most of the buildings here. The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly and the food is good although we did eat out most nights in order to see the Havana nightlife. It's rooftop lounging area is nice and offers lovely views of the city and the sea, and you can expect drinks delivered up to your lounger. If I were going back again I would probably pick somewhere a bit more luxurious such as the Parque Central which is just across the street which seems more up-market but obviously at a higher price. But all in all the Plaza does have a lot to offer at a reasonable price.

I was there after a group tour and a the beginning of the tour I was in a different hotel nearby and I really thought when I come back to havanna on my own to the Plaza (oh that would be great) but not really the first room I had the toilet only flushed once so after I got back after dinner at night I had to switch rooms the breakfeast was not very great and no nice bar!!!!!!!! (the only hotel around) there was the center bar/lounge/restaurant thing but that was usually occupied by people watching football (it was the european championships) so as it turned out there were a LOT of people from The Netherlands) so the hotel was a bit disappointing and I would go back to havanna but then a different hotel but still... I liked the people by that time I had been in Cuba for four weeks so I got so used to the cuban people and how to talk to them some people on this website talk about bringing your own water (what!!!!!!!) or that they don't tell you in the hotel not to wear gold well they should think for themselves .... come on!!!!!!! I loved Cuba and love to go back to havanna I loved the location of this hotel so in the middle of everything the only thing I didn't like was that as a woman alone you couldn't set one foot outside the hotel before being jumped from all directions by horny cubans (HEY LADEY!!!!!!!!I WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND!!!HEY LADEY!!!WHAT'S YOUR NAME!!!!!) aaarrgghhh!!! and by other hotels that was a lot less but because this is in the middle of the center and round the corner from the shops a lot of cabdrivers were there (wich is usefull!!!) and a lot of men!!!!!!!! nice location but there is better hotels near.... dirty,old,horible breakfast,rude stuff... slow service from a man in reception which find himself to clever to work.....

Not as I expected, bad food dirty very low service level and looks dangerous in case of a fire. If you want to have a more quality just go to the NH hotel which is located on the same square.

Service, food, staff all superb. Location fantastic. Lifts a bit dodgy though got stuck for over 45minutes. Decoration excellent. Havana Tours great way to explore old and new Habana.
