I loved this hotel & it's staff, Tassos (owner/manager) was always helpful, Robert made us the most wonderful drinks & his brother Michael look care of us in the the restaurant.
The place as is said before is up a steep hill, but after the first time it did get easier; we had couples in their 80's managing it!
We had a one of the best holidays mainly because of the other guests & how we were looked after. Yes, we would go again.

I have recently spent a very enjoyable week at the Rodos Star, and it was very good value for money. It was also spotlessly clean.
Food - Excellent! As it was the start of the season, there weren't enough people for the buffet for the first few days of our holiday. Instead, we got a 5 course meal. I am a fussy vegetarian & was very well looked after the whole week, with different local specialities each day. My vegetarian main meal was still served to me when dinner became buffet, so there was no problem of contamination from meat.
Tassos, the manager, was lovely - I can't recognise him from the money-grabber described in other reviews.
Rooms - There are still no fridges or TV’s in the rooms, but Tassos informed us that these will be provided by next year.
The Hill - The hotel is at the top of a very steep hill, in a quiet location overlooking the town. I never walked up it once - my hire-car could barely make it! The hotel has a pool with a bar although we didn't see it open as we were always out during the day.
The main bar area is the only area for evening entertainment, so there's not really much to do. Generally people walked down to the town's numerous bars (and took a taxi back up!)
I'm afraid I can't comment on how good or bad a deal the hotel provides on car-hire, as we booked ours independently before we went.

On arrival we had trouble with the rooms but this eventually got sorted.
Rooms were kept clean, shower was very old and not that good. Our patio door didn't lock, we did report this but it never got fixed.
Pool was not very clean at first but after complaints were made it was cleaned out. A good sized pool which we all had fun in lots of loungers for all.
Food for half board was terrible same thing over and over again, very bland and sometimes cold. Our holiday cost more than planned, due to having to eat out almost every night. Food at pool bar was good and a varied menu.
Entertainment was not to be seen at any time the same music was repeated in the bar every night BBQ night never happened.
Hotel itself was not air conditioned so it was very hot and sticky at meal times and throughout the day. It also cost 7 euros per room per night for air con, which was a bit steep.
Hotel is situated on an extremely steep hill .The town centre was 5-10 mins walk away and was very nice lots of good places to eat and very friendly bars. The weather was fantastic very hot lovely tans were got by all.
Met some very lovely people everyone friendly. We would like to go back again but only if they sorted out their food.

Lovely clean hotel, "cardiac hill" a killer, really spoilt our holiday. If we had been told beforehand how steep the hill was we would not have booked. Glad not to have been all inclusive, choice of meals very poor, air conditioning in restaurant and bar hardly ever on, always extremely hot and sticky.
No entertainment whatsoever in the week we stayed there, same music played in bar night after night.7 euros per day for air conditioning in our room was a bit pricey, especially as you could not leave it on when you left the room, so room always hot when you returned to it.
Reception staff not over friendly, but bar staff very nice. Afandou village was very quaint and everyone at the bottom of the hill was very friendly. If we ever go back to Rhodes we certainly would not stay at the Rodos star, we would book somewhere down in the village.

Hotel was clean and comfortable and the views were spectacular. They even made the trek up 'cardiac hill' worth it! (Walked it a couple of times, but decided the standard 5euro taxi fare was a good option!)
Yes, some of the towels were grey (but clean) and the pool area could have been tidied up a bit - some of the sun loungers needed replacing. However, the meals were good. Evening meals consisted of soup, crusty bread, 2 starters, salad, 2 main courses (pork, chicken, turkey, veal, lamb, beef, fish etc) with potatoes, rice, chips or pasta, and vegetables, then a dessert, plus fruit and ice cream. As it was a buffet, you could eat as much of anything you wanted.
We were there 10 days and we didn't have the same meal twice. There was a Greek night for which we were expected to pay an extra 5 euros each. The bar staff (Robert and Thassos-alias de Niro) were friendly, but the music was sometimes too loud and thumping - music that wouldn't be out of place at a rave! This is not the Ritz, nor is it Blackpool or Benidorm. This is Greece! (And our 7th visit to the Greek islands, the second time to Rhodes.)
Afandou is a typically Greek village, and the locals are very friendly. We also tried 'Simply the Best' bar and met Zoe the lovely (English) barmaid, also Thassos the manager and his family. Thassos also has a bar/restaurant overlooking Afandou which he is extending - 'The Skyline'. He invited us up to see it and the views are stunning. There are 2 Mike's bars, one in the square and one just off the square.
We got a great reception in both. Against advice we hired a scooter for 6 days and toured the north and west of this beautiful island. Would we go back? A definite "Yes!"

Very clean hotel with friendly staff and is close to centre of town. Hill up to hotel is steeeeeep but if you feel lazy taxis are cheap.
We found food to be varied each evening at hotel and if you want a change plenty of places in town. Train runs from town centre to beach and only costs a euro each way. Beer was 1.6 euros at mikes bar where we always got a warm welcome.
Would visit again and stay at same hotel.

I really want to say hi to all the staff at the Rodos star there was a few ups and downs to our holiday and a particular event prevented us from leaving the hotel very much.
But everyone made us feel soooooooooo welcome, and happy hour at the bar was a big hit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lots of love to everyone
especially Spiritula and Nikos

The best thing about this hotel was that it was very clean. That said, the towels were old with holes and frayed at the edges, grey with age (but clean). The hairdryer in the bathroom didn’t work, neither did the light over the dressing table or the ceiling light so we had to leave the bedside lights on, despite reporting the light failures nothing was done to repair them.
The curtains which were adjoining in the bedroom didn’t match, one was a thin plain yellow satin and the other a thick mustard patterned tapestry. The breakfasts consisted of luncheon meat, sliced processed cheese, frankfurters, cool baked beans, sliced tomatoes and cucumber, a little fresh fruit, plenty of yoghurt, sweet biscuits, bread & jam. Not appetising but filling but get there early if you want any of the hot (warm) food as it is limited and does run out. The people who we spoke to who upgraded to evening meals regretted it.
The cushions on the bar terrace were not just threadbare, some had lost their entire cover and were just bare foam. Half the sunbeds around the pool were cracked but the actual pool was extremely clean and there is also a nice little children’s pool. We ate in the village in the evenings and the food was excellent everywhere, first choice goes to Sergio’s almost in the square but the seafood is good at Tasty Roof Garden (although it doesn’t look promising from the outside do try it) especially the mussels.
Simply the Best is a fabulous bar on the main street decorated with British football shirts, the staff are friendly and welcoming and we had to drag ourselves away every night. I shouldn't be telling you this but Afandou is the very best place to have a holiday on Rhodes - we will be going back just like everyone else who we spoke to!!!!!!!

Booked this holiday and had a wonderful time.
Close enough to Faliraki and quiet enough if you want some peace, the hotel was immaculate nothing was ever to much trouble for Mike Thassos and the rest of the staff who ran the hotel. The only downside was the hotel itself didn’t have a lot to offer in the way of entertainment if you were to spend a night in the hotel grounds, rooms were cleaned daily and properly not like some maids who only clean what they like when they like.
Food was great different menu every night and we stayed for two weeks, pool was clean and tidy there is a bit of a steep hill if you walk into Afandou from the hotel although not lively Afandou itself is a lovely place to relax in the evening.
What else is there to mention, only one pool table for the whole of the hotel, other than that we had a great stay.

Me and my mum have just come back from two weeks at the Rodos Star Hotel. The hotel its self is not bad although aspects of their service and facility could be improved.
For example the food was incredibly bland and very similar each night, after two weeks of it we had most definitely had enough, the waitress though, was very freindly and good at her job.
The lack of entertainment in the evenings caused most of our evenings where we did not venture down the " killer " hill very boring. I did mange to befriend a member of the bar staff (Robert what a great guy!!!) which were on a whole very friendly.
On a whole the staff are very good there are just aspects of the hotel that can be most definitely improved.
