Greeted by the owner after arriving at resort at 6am, room was found to be clean and plenty of wardrobe/draw space required for our stay and the owner had left a large bottle mineral water for us. The apartment was only cleaned once in our weeks stay including bin in... more

The rooms were clean, but my bed creaked every time I moved. The bathroom had this funny bath that had bumps in it, presumably were your bum fitted, there was no shower attachment on the wall, so you had to sit in the bath and use the shower. It was supposed to overlook a... more

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Golf Bay apartments. After three nights we did have to pay for the air conditioning as temperatures at night were still in above 29 and it was particularly humid. You do need a hire car to get around and see the island. There is a handy... more

The Golf Bay Studios were indeed in very pretty grounds. The rooms themselves are very well kept, nice and clean and what I would say was usual Greek standards. The kitchen had every utensil you could possibly need, plenty of plates, glasses etc. The bathroom even had a... more

Cheap and Unfriendly
Have absolutely nothing positive to say about The Golf View Hotel. Rooms (of which we had 2 - were asked to move by the hotel manager on day 3) were very basic. The first room (Room 205) did have a sea view if you managed to look through the palm trees, which were planted directly in front of our room, the 2nd room (No. 302) was a nicer room. We arrived at 3.30am on Sunday. Each morning breakfast consisted of exactly the same food.......bread rolls processed triangles of cheese and processed triangles of cooked ham, hard boiled eggs, jam, cereal, and dried out biscuits........oh forgot about the tinned fruit salad and yoghurt and the tepid tea and coffe. As you can imagine by day 3 we were less than enthusiastic about going in for breakfast. Evening meals were very basic (in fact I have never seen a pound of stewing steak go so far). One evening I asked for Stifado (a typical Greek dish), I was given 2 lumps of stewed steak and 7 onions). On our last day we ordered 2 toasted sandwiches and a plate of chips and it took an hour to arrive (my husband ordered at 2.30pm and we got our order at 3.30pm). On the whole I found the place to be ran on minimum expenditure by the management and to say it was unfriendly would be an understatement. On the last day we asked if we could pay extra to keep our room (as we didn't fly until 4.10am) we were told no the hotel was full and we had to vacate the room by 12noon. The room was still empty when we left the hotel for the airport!! We were told there were shower facilities on the floor below which we could use. We asked for towels to use in this shower room and were told "do you not have your own towels? We cannot give out towels to everyone who use the shower room"........well, as we had booked half-board in a hotel I wouldn't expect to take my own towels! In summary.... Golf View Hotel.....too far out of town and too far from the beach and a very cheaply ran establishment (maybe it should be re-named 'Faulty Towers'). Certainly won't be staying there again. PS: The safety deposit boxes were not ideal, one key for you to keep and the hotel staff had a master key (both keys to be used at once), this master key was often left lying on the reception desk where anyone could reach over and get it.
ok hotel
Stayed at the Golf View Hotel in August, rooms were cleaned daily with daily towel changes. The view was non existant our room looked over a small courtyard, we did consider asking to be moved but all the other rooms seemed to be overlooking a builders yard. The staff at this hotel were very nice and what food we had was ok, we hired a car so we were out quite a lot. Our accomodation was self catering but the cooker had only one ring and the utentials were very bad. Good thing we never cook whilst on holiday, but the food at the hotel was very reasonable. On the whole we enjoyed the holiday, but Rhodes and the Golf View were not for us and we will not be returning whilst there are so many other islands that are far more beautiful to explore.
Friendly but basic
MY sister and I have just returned (8th Aug), we had a really good stay, we were always made to feel welcome and the staff did everything they could to be of help. The hotel was basic, but it wasn't described any other in the brochure so we weren't expecting too much. Overall it could do to be updated and the air conditioning should be as standard. We both enjoyed the walk to the beach and to the village, and again found people extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Would visit again.
the 'real' golf view hotel
Have just returned from afandou this morning. Overall my boyfriend and i had a great time but thats probably more to do with the friends we made. Afandou itself isnt a bad place, its just not a tourist destination. The town is small and very greek which is want we wanted. The problem with the hotel is that its a 20 minute walk to the beach and the same again to the town in a different direction. In the heat thats a hard walk! The bus links are great around rhodes and very cheap. The beach in faliraki is much nicer than afandou. The hotel charge 50euro per week for air con. We went a week without which was hard so got a fan in the 2nd week which was fine. The pool is small and too close to the eating area and it gets cramped. If you go self catering i will warn you that cooking utensils arent very good. There is no hot water, you have to shower early in the evening while the sun still heats the water. It is a family run hotel. I had no problems but some of our friends had many issues with the staff being unhelpful. If you are planning to sightsee around rhodes then afandou is in a good position on the island. We visited hotel sivila a few times which was lovely!! Overall we have no complaints as it was a last minute, cheap deal!
Would not return
We have just returned from a week in Afandou. We booked a budget last minute holiday with a travel agent we know and trust. We did not spend much time researching the area and from now on, I am going to do the research! With so much info around on internet etc it is well worth it. The hotel was very much get what you pay for. We travelled through the night and on arrival after joining a long que to check in to hotel, we were asked if we wanted air conditioning at an extra 50 euros for the week, this was not exactly a welcoming reception. This is the week Greece had a well reported heat wave, temp was over 100 degree, making it hard to explore the nearby towns. A car is recommended. The rooms were ok, we were self catering studios and there was one hob and a tiny fridge. The first room we were in was with the very distant sea view, over a buliding site and a main road. We changed rooms because we decided we needed the air con after all to a room at the back- much quieter although a view over a sparse court yard. The pool is small, it is misleading to call it decent sized. The hotel is family run which does make for a slightly less commercial atmosphere but as another reviewer mentioned; the hospitality extends to taking care of the guests because we mean money of course. I enjoy walking, but the beach is too far and on a busy road. We tried to hitch a lift in the scorching heat down the road that led to the beach but to no avail! The beach is a pebble beach and although sparse (I have heard some people describe it as boring) I was just glad to be in the sea. The local village is also too far on foot if you are walking in the heat. Perhaps bearable at different times of year. The village has a few cheap eats but the bars are tacky and full of tourists. We had an early 3am return flight on Sunday morning- we had to pay 40 euros to stay an extra night- although we were given a fan for free for a few hours when I asked! I have paid a little more and had much better experiences, but after all it was a last minute budget holiday. I have returned with a sun tan! and there were no major problems or flight delays after all. You live and learn from your travel experiences I guess. Hope this review is of some help.
Last minute booking - good location for seeing Rhodes.
We have just returned from this family friendly hotel, found room very clean, daily maid service and clean towels daily. Will certainly book this hotel again. For visiting other parts of Rhodes very accessable. If you want piece and quiet from the lively Faliraki walk into Afandou Village approx 20 to 25 minutes walk. Bars and Taverna's very hospital.
Great time
My mate and I had a great time while we were here. The pool is great to spend lazy days by, with cheap drinks. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. When its not too hot you can walk to the beach which is about a 10/15 min walk away, as it the lovely town of Afandou. Afandou has great resturants and bars. There is a little road train which can take you from the town to the beach. The room was very clean. There are bus time tables in the hotel and on the bus stops, so is easy to get a bus to places. The easiest thing would be to hire a car though. I reommend visiting rhodes town and lindos, both has amazing shops. We both plan to return to Golf View for our holiday next year.
Golf View Hotel Not that good
There is nothing special in this hotel. It is another business looking after their customers because we mean money to them. The swimming pool is not very clean. The golf course close to it is in very poor conditions. It is noisy because it is about 50 metres from the main road that goes from Rodhes Town to the South of the island and when coaches come to pick the customers up to take them form or to the airport (and that happens about 4 am) you are going to find yourself waking up in the middle of the night because of the noise. When you read about this hotel you will never find that you will need a car or a bike to go to other places and even to the closest beach (It is impossible to find in a brouchere the distance between this hotel and the closest beach and, even more, they never mention anything about the nearest beach in any term). Even more, I saw that one of the customers were complaining about a problem they had in the hotel and the young man from reception was just trying to justify the hotels policy and not listening to waht the customer was recommending to him in order to improve the hotel as a business. The customer asked for a comkplaining sheet and they just said that they have no complaining sheets in the hotel. This hotel is located about 20 minutes walking from a small village (Afandou). This village has not much to offer and I will suggest a Hotel in Rhodes to stay (very cultural and beautiful city with a huge variety of bars, restaurant and a good and multicultural night-life)or in Lindos, which is a really nice village with small streets, traditional shops and a beautiful bizantine castle and gorgeous beaches. As a conclussion I would say that this is not a hotel I would recommend to a friend because it has nothing special and some negative things. Rhodes is a place to go but preferibly Rhodes Town or Lindos. Hope that could help you if you are thinking about visiting the island.
golf view is place to go if you want relaxing holiday
due to night flight we arrived at 5am found people waiting to see us to our room which was vey spacious for greece. The rooms were cleaned daily and bedding change once a week. The hotel as a whole was very clean and the people there very helpful and polite. The pool area was also cleaned regulary and ther was plenty of sunbeds for all.Nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff and we had a very good holiday there and would go back no problem. We flew wtith flyjet on return and ended up with a 13 hr delay this put a bit of a dampener on the end of what was a great holiday. The resort is about 15 to 20 min walk away from hotel but after a few days you got use to the stroll. a trip to near by rhodes old town is a must and also is lindos.
Excellent, if quiet aparthotel
Arrived very late at night, sun just rising. Room was very spacious with 2 large twin beds together making a 6ft double. Exceptionally clean and well kept throughout the 2 weeks we were there with a lovely sunny balcony overlooking the golf course and sea. Had read other reviews regarding the builders yard in front of hotel but quite honestly no-one ever worked there and there was little or no noise from it. The main road from Lindos to Rhodes was about 500 yds away and could be noisy but not too much of a bother. The staff were mainly interested in their own entertainment but the bar was good and the pool, which could be better kept was adequate if needed. However, most of the time should be spent either on the very large and clean Afandou beach (road train available each day for 1 euro, leaves at 10.00am from outside hotel, returns at 3.30 or 4.30) or in Afanou village which is excellent with loads of fun bars and excellent restaurants where you would be hard put to spend over 25 euros for a 3 course meal with wine for 2! Try Theo's, no menu on show but a place that will more than amaze you or Mimi's. Wonderful place, wonderful holiday.
