This was not the first time we have chosen to stay at Socrates Studios and having been to Greece on holiday every year since 1986 (twice a year in recent times) these self catering studios rate with some of the best.
They are basic, but then when staying in Greece you expect liitle more, but they are . They are comfortable
Some of the major considerations are the amount of space within the accommodation, the cleanliness of the rooms and they are conveniently located to both the beach (5 minutes stroll) and the resort centre (5 minutes stroll). The latter means that they are generally quiet although close to a road.
However, the major advantage is that it is above one of Greece's best family run tavernas where the authentic local food is second to none.
The tavena is only open in the evenings, from 6pm until the last customer leaves and there is no poolside bar (or pool) as has been referred to in a previous review?
The family who run this little gem are attentive to your every need both with regards the rooms and the taverna.
Well done Helene, Socrates, Dimitris, Dionysia, Miri, Rebecca, Victoria and Maria. You all work very hard and made the holiday very enjoyable.

I think I'm going to put a spanner in the works here....sorry! If you have booked to go here then there are no major worries, but we cannot see how these apartments are rated so highly by everyone.
FIRSTLY.....please be EXTREEMLY careful on the road from the hotel toward Beach Road where the shops are. It is a tiny road and looks quiet but it turns out to be one of the main roads from the highway toward the beach and town area. On our first day we were strolling down and a car came round the corner at breakneck speed. I'm not sure how he missed us but please take care. My 14 year old, along with some of his friends he met, wasn't allowed down the road on his own after that!
Arriving at 4 in the morning was never going to be a good start but we were surprised by how small out apartment was. The bed for our 14 year old was in the kitchen with the table pushed up against it. The fridge on the other side of the table opened the wrong way and the door wouldn't open all the way as there wasn't room. I had to ask for my son's mattress to be changed when I saw how dirty it was and it was covered in patches of black mould.
There was no cupboard space for food and it couldn't be left out as there was a lot of ants in the kitchen. When water was tipped down the sink it ended up in the cupboard under it, so no storage of anything there either.
We had twin beds but the way they were arranged meant we couldn't open the balcony door, so I rearranged the bedroom. The bathroom was very small with a huge sink, the mat was filthy and the shower so small I couldn't bend down to wash my feet without opening the sliding screen!! The balcony chair cushions were dirty with old food and grease.
The night barman, George, that people write about has now left and he has been replaced by Graham, who was very kind and friendly to us. The female cook works every day from 9.15am - 9.30pm and must be exhausted. We were never sure if tiredness was the cause of her unfriendlyness or not. One evening we decided to eat in the Pool Bar and ordered chicken soulvaki which, on inspection, was completely RAW in the middle. We told Graham and he asked her to sort the problem, which she did by just recooking the chicken and putting it back on the same plate the raw meat had been on! When we told Graham that this was dangerous he took it back and asked her to cook a fresh meal. The crashes, bangs and shouting coming from the kitchen told us that she was not a happy bunny and the whole episode left us feeling uncomfortable. From then on we got the 'evil eye' from her (better than Salmonella though eh!).
The bulb in the bathroom blew and it took three days of asking to get it changed.
The pool area was ok. There were patches of slimy algea in some parts of the pool and most of the umbrellas were broken. Contrary to other reviews the sunbeds were free, (it was not too difficult to get a sunbed even at midday), the beds in the rooms are rock hard and not at all comfortable and the beach was a good walk away in the heat.
Anyway, our holiday was not particularly ruined by this, but, we have stayed in better places where we looked forward to going back to our room.
I also think that a bottle of water at least would be courteous in the middle of the night with no drinking water to hand.
If you are looking for a relaxing couple of weeks in the sun we would reccomend Cosmos Maris apartments in Lardos, Rhodes. Large, brilliant apartments, pool and some fun entertainment too!

We stayed at socrates studios for 12 nights in June /July 2008. Theyare very nice and well maintained and Eleni the owner was very helpful and thoughtful. She let us stay in the room until we left at 6pm.The sea view from our balcony was lovely and they are very well placed for the beach and the rest of the resort. I would recommend them highly.
