Metaxatos Apartments

We have been going to the greek island for over 20 years and this was easily one of the better places we have stayed. Room was a decent size, with good size shower area (think it may have had a small bath there before refurbishment some years ago). None of the unpleasant drain smells you sometimes get abroard. Usual Fridge plus 2 cooking rings, but Grill/Oven and toaster was a bonus.
Room was cleaned every day, towels/sheets only twice a week. Although we had a terrace, not a balcony, it was relatively private and the views over the coastline were outstanding. The Metaxatos has two seperate accomodation blocks, most rooms are lower down at pool level, and pretty quiet. The top block is near the main road and may encounter road noise. It is also a steep walk down through the grounds to the pool from these top rooms.
The pool bar was quiet, but friendly.
It's a 5 min walk up a gentle slope into Lassi 1 way, 15 min walk mainly down a steep main road to Argostolli the other(there is a pavement) Get a bus back from Argostolli! I cannot understand the negative reviews from other people, and can only assume they normally stay in 5star Hotels. This place was excellent value for money.
- Advice: ask for accomodation in the lower block

My husband and I wanted a relaxing holiday in Greece,so booked Metaxatos Apartments with SunIsle. We arrived in Kefalonia very excited about our sunny holiday, however we had the most chocking surprise when we saw our accomodation. The place is depressing, maintenance is very bad. I felt like crying when I entered into the studio. The studio was terribly hot with one door and 1 window in the front from were we could hear the next door people conversations very clear, and also smell the food and cigarretes. The TV was attached to te support with a roof rack tie. Kitchen completety worn out. We booked this holiday through SunIsle and we paid a pretty good money for it.We could not sleep properly with the noise and heat. We got in touch with SunIsle in Greece and UK in vain, they were very unhelpful.
We had to leave in the following morning and look for a decent hotel, basicaly we spend a day of our holiday phoning SunIsle and looking for a place to stay. We had to pay for the accomodation we found plus what we already paid to SunIsle. We never got any compensation or money back from them. Don't go there it is not nice at all!!!

We have recently returned from Kefalonia. It is a stunning island and well worth a visit. However we unfortuneately chose SunIsle Holidays and would not ever recommend them or use them again. Not knowing the island I requested a quiet, typically Greek location and was assured the Metaxatos studios would meet our requirements. The studio apartment was small, dark and dingey. It felt like staying in a small garage. The window had a locked metal shutter across it. The 1970's flat pack funiture had seen better days. The 'kithen' was a single stark metal unit. It was self catering but so basic, no tea towels(which I don't expect to pack on my holdays)or other expected basics. The shower curtain was mouldy. The 'daily cleaning' by the staff left a lot to the imagination. It was practically non existant. You could hear the next door apartments inhabitants every move. The staff were abrupt and miserable. The bar facilities were so sporadic not worth trying to use. The apartments are situated on a busy main road, not quite what I had requested. The childrens park is rusting and grounds unkempt. SunIsles local reps failed to contact me when I said I was unhappy with the accomodation and then told me if I moved to another SunIsle property I would have to pay more.
We moved out having found our own alternative accomodation. On our return I wrote complaining to SunIsle UK who replied stating it was just not to our taste. Their meagre offer of 10% off another holiday with them (which early bookers get as standard with them) was not enticing. SunIsle have over priced and severly overated this location.
- Advice: Don't bother with SunIsle or Metaxatos Studios

My family and I stayed at this apartment in Aug 06 and I can't fault the view it really was amazing. We had a 2 bedroom apt which was ok basic and in need of updating. The bathroom really did smell and I tried to clean the drain on the floor to mixed success however it wasn’t the end of the world.
The pool area was ok but the pool did get very dirty and the boys who ran the bar were constantly trying to clean the filters, we decided not to use the pool for a day or so until they had it sorted which they eventually did, also our youngest daughter who was 4 couldn’t stand up in the shallow end and you should be aware of this if your kids aren’t good swimmers or are young, our oldest who was 6 loved it.
The bar is not owned by the apartment people and was run by a lad in his late teens early twenties who used it as his own Goth rock and roll hangout which meant hardly anyone went there in the evening which was a shame because all the people we met were very nice(no lager louts).
Lassi is ok for restaurant but the beaches are brilliant so to eat head to Argostoli which is a wonderful little capital city on an island with superb places to eat.
Would I go back to Metaxatos? No but I wouldn't bother going to any other Greek island (I’ve been to loads).

The Metaxatos apartments are situated at the far end of Lassi but within a few minutes walk from all the restaurants and bars. There are two entrances, one on the new road into Argostoli and one on the old road.
The top entrance is quite a steep walk down if you have booked the bottom apartments so use the lower entrance when going out and about.
The apartments are basic, but when you look out across the sea to Lixouri you'll forget that.
There is a lovely pool and bar for those that just want to stay close by which serves the usual burger type meals or a great Greek salad. If you turn right out of the apartments there is a minimart for all your needs.
A short walk past the shop and you are into Lassi itself, with its good selection of bars and restaurants. I tried nearly all of them and I recommend Pheadra's and Sirtaki as two of the best offering all the great traditional Greek cuisine you'd expect.
A 20 minute walk along the new road will bring you into Argostoli with its vibrant square and good selection of shops. My advice is hire a car or bike if you want to make the most of this spectacular island though. I hired a moped in Lassi and explored the majority of the island.
The fantastic beaches of Anti Samos and Mirtos are a must as is the breath taking view of Assos from high up on the coastal road. Fiscardo is a lovely fishing village at the tip of the island which is picturesque.
The beach at Xi is a good day out too, with its red sand and clay bottom. You must visit Drogarati cave and Mellisani Lake too. You can fit both of these into the same trip as they are quite close by, both are stunning.
All in all the Metaxatos apartments are a great base from which to see this amazing island. I would recommend the apartments and the fantastic island of Kefalonia to anyone.

It is worth staying at Metaxatos for the view alone. Awesome sunsets, and at night the lights across the water sparkle. The location is also excellent. Literally 5 minute walk will bring you to a small beach, which doesn’t get too busy at all, and the water is crystal clear and warm.
Also 5 minutes away is the local supermarket which sells everything. And only 20 minutes walk away is Argostoli, which is quite lively at times and a good place to eat and drink, or just walk along the harbour and spot some turtles!
The apartments are a reasonable size, clean and well stocked. They also have a TV with a couple of English news channels if you want to keep up to date with events whilst having a siesta! The balconies and terraces are a great size.
The only problem with Metaxatos is the smell from the bathroom. I've been to Greece many times before, but it was definitely the worst I had smelled this time round. The drains and sewers smell quite bad. Not pleasant, though it is all part and parcel of a holiday in Greece.
Highly recommended (though don't tell too many people!).

Some very steep slopes have to be encountered to get to your apartment and to visit the pool and bar area.
The apartments are situated with lovely views looking across to a beautiful sunset.
The pool is a good size with plenty of sunbeds available not many umbrellas but there were enough for us. There was a very distinct drain smell coming from the toilets and shower area, we were told to expect this in Greece! The bar served food but some days the shopping hadn’t been done and all that was available was chips or toasted sandwich, at times the atmosphere was very bland and boring.
We only found one decent taverna to eat at "sto spito" opposite . All other Tavernas were a 5 minute walk into Lassi but we did not want to eat motorbike fumes or hear the noisy traffic that sped down the main street, Greece is about looking out to sea or that amazing scenery, lassi does not have this, there is no sole with mostly car hire places, roaring trade done as everyone wants to get out of lassi.
The beaches are lovely but in the heat of the day only a taxi ride could be considered from the apartments.

To wake up on a Monday morning to the most fabulous view was a delight in itself. Add to that the welcome from not only Athena but also her parents, sister and brother and you have as near perfect as you can get.
The apartments were well appointed for the resort of Lassi and also Agostoli and a great base from which to explore the whole of the island. Well equipped which even included a toaster and teapot , which anyone who has stayed in Greece will agree is very hard to find.
The pool and surrounding area are well laid out and extremely clean and inviting and with the bar serving ice cold beer and perfect Frappe who could ask for much more except maybe the tasty snacks all made with organic fruit and veg from the families own farm.
Thank you for a perfectly relaxing holiday where nothing was too much, great place, great company and picture perfect views. Oh and you must visit the little cove just down from the apartments for your own little bit of paradise.

We can only assume these apartments had some sort of refurbishment between the 2009 and 2011 seasons as the rooms described in reviews prior to 2011 certainly didn't match our experience. OK, so they're not in the luxury category but ours was clean and well serviced - bins emptied every day along with a daily wipe/sweep around and if my memory serves me right, bathroom towels were changed at least once.
We were in the top block of apartments and as we went towards the end of September the weather was a bit cooler so the indoor heat described didn't apply but we could imagine things could get a bit sticky when it was warmer. There are air conditioning units available if needed although we understand there is a daily charge for them. The apartment smelt fresh and we had no problem with nasty odours.
The apartments are set on a hill which might be a problem for some (some elderly, disabled & infirm might find the steep paths and steps an issue) but the location is a huge asset when it comes to views which are stunning, sunsets in particular. Going out of season meant things were quiet and peaceful (although the cleaning staff could do with turning it down a bit).
There's a beach fairly close by (down a hill, so remember you'll have to walk up it on the way back) and another which is a stroll away, again this ones accessed down a fairly steep hill. Other beaches are a little further away but some don't involve inclines. If you don't fancy the beach the pool is just as good, clean and well maintained. Whilst we were there, there was always someone manning the bar - even if there was just one person sitting around the pool. There's also a supermarket within walking distance.
Some might feel the outside areas needed a lick of paint and a spruce up but things might have appeared a little jaded because it was the end of the season.
The only real bug bear was the unhelpful attitude of the office staff - a course in customer service wouldn't go amiss there.
All in all it's a case of the apartments being 'Horses for Courses' - if you go expecting luxury you'll be disappointed but if you want a base for a week (or two) with clean accommodation, easy access to beaches, restaurants etc and beautiful views then go for it.
