Wonderful holiday
8 / 10
Sep 2011, Mr Happy

Just spent a week at Blue Dreams. A surprise birthday holiday for my wife. What a fantastic week we had. We are both vegetarian and Litsa took that on board immediately and produced tasty and varied meals for us every night, even on BBQ night. Her, George, Paris and Katarina just couldn't do enough to make us welcome. Little George and Maria were a delight and helped us not to miss our grandchildren to much. Yes Blue Dreams is a bit off the main tourist trap route, but we managed to get around on local transport easily enough, again with Litsa's help. The view from our appartment balcony was magnificent, particularly at sunset. can recommend these appartments to anybody and will certainly visit them again ourselves.

What a place to see the apartments were clean and the view i had from my room was fantastic.the family will try and do there best for u and the food they cook out of this world. The apartments is close to a beach and if u need to do some shopping the next town to them has a good selection and the bus stop is only a 5 minute walk. this was my 4th year there and i am booking up again to go back next year as i am getting married there i just love the place. so if u like great food drink and company book up and go and see for yourself how great this place is

truly dreadful

Quite possibly the worst place we have ever stayed.
It's cheap, so perhaps the tatty rooms don't matter that much - not so sure about stained and torn bedlinen.
What makes the apartments truly dreadful is the rude and money-grabbing attitude of the owners. Want a kettle? They'll rent you one. A taxi? No problem, the daughter will take you into town - for 15 Euros. Excursions? Don't bother with Olympic, her 'friend' will do it cheaper.
If you stay by the pool and drink and eat at their exhorbitant prices, the false smile will stay in place all day. Don't think about self-catering or eating out though, unless you fancy the 'Spanish Inquisition'... She even laid into the rep. for telling us where the supermarket was!
Quite why Olympic keeps this cess-pit on their books escapes us.

Absolutely dreadful!

You won't have paid much, so initial impressions are quite favourable. Then you'll notice that the, admittedly large, room is really quite dirty and the towels and bed linen are stained and torn. You'll have to pay extra to hire a kettle, toaster and fan (in Crete in summer!) and that really sums up the main fault - the greed and rudeness of the owner.
The false smile will stay locked in place if you choose to eat and drink, and pay exhorbitant prices, at the hotel. Once you decide to try elsewhere, though, the barrage of questions will start - "Where you going?", "Why you not eat here?", and so on. On our second week, virtually all the guests had taken to meeting at night at one of the tavernas in the village. Over relaxing drinks, the escape committee discussed tunneling out of Stalag Blue Dream....
We too felt sorry for the rep - a nice man, but with tied hands. Just why Olympic keeps this cess pit in their brochure escapes us.

I visited Blue Dreams in June 2010 on my own, when I returned home to England I told my partner about it and we both went in September 2010.
The apartments are perfectly located away from the crowds but within walking distance to the bus stop to other resorts if you want something a bit busier.
The apartments on both occasions were clean and of the usual basic facilities that I would expect for the price of the holiday in Crete. The family and staff were friendly. Good home cooked food in the restaurant. We met some lovely holiday makers and enjoyed our whole holiday.
Ian the Olympic rep was helpful and puts a quiz on on Monday nights. BBQ on Sunday nights. Paris the waiter/bar person is a character, worth visiting just to meet him, and his dancing is entertaining to.

H**l on Crete
1 / 10
Aug 2010, jo1200

In a word…………discussing. Unless you want to sit around a mediocre pool all day, dine and generally spend all your Euros in that hotel………do not go there.
We booked a last minute holiday with basic accommodation and this wasn’t basic, it was h**l. After holidaying in Greece for around 20 years, usually on last minute deals in basic accommodation, I was honestly glad to come home. First time visitors would never return to Greece again.
The room was dingy and dirty. Sheets and towels were only changed once a week. The catering facilities were un usable. It’s a small village in Crete, I don’t expect air con and all the trimmings, it was the owners who were frightening. I should have gotten out of there the moment we opened the fridge and saw the ‘welcome pack’ 2 small waters, 2 small beers, fruit juice and milk. Next morning we were greeted with you owe us X euros (about £10) for your welcome pack with her hand held out, even though we hadn’t touched it!
The majority of the rooms were all facing the bar and you couldn’t leave the room without passing the bar and Litsa’s look and yells of disapproval (I speak a bit of Greek). We also called it the walk of shame, encouraging us to leave the hotel early and return late to avoid her, which didn’t work either.
We did our bit, we had breakfast when convenient and joined in at the BBQ but the family stand at the BBQ and comment at your choice of food, one of our party is a vegetarian and this seemed to pose a problem to them even though we never mentioned it. When we did drink in the bar the draft beer wasn’t available for the whole duration of our holiday but funnily enough was available for their friends, we had to purchase bottles or spirits.
The food was ok but nothing special and on our last visit came with a complimentary piece of chewed spearmint in the beans.
Litsa and her daughters are basically rude. George was pleasant enough and did look after the pool, his son who does the disco is nice and friendly. The cleaners where the politest, but being from a different country suspected they weren’t related.
I actually felt sorry for the rep, he couldn’t help as he wasn’t in control of anything to do with the hotel but he was informative of the island and did his best, organising us a car to get the h**l out of there!
The situation of the hotel (stavramentos) is a quiet resort but further up the beaches are good and in the village the food is good. There are some nice hotels who are more than welcoming, even if you just pop in for a beer or a snack. One lovely taverna is right on the Beach (forgot the name) it’s open all day and is on the beach, they cook fresh food and was the proper Greek experience. The main road out of the resort is fast and the buses are regular.
I’d go back to Stavramentos again but never ever Blue Dreams. Rated it 1 as you can't do it a -1

Worst Accommodation

staff are the most ignorant people you could ever meet. the best part of the holiday was watching the ants in the back patio eating and taking the crisps away.
there was nothing around. nothing or nowhere to visit.
you had to get a taxi into the city which costs nearly 20euro. they tell you what to eat even if you dont want that, they charge you for the bread that they bring out before your meal without telling you. i wouldn't advise anybody to visit this disgusting place.

After booking the holiday, I read the reviews and was worried ! No need, was fine, good hosts, things are basic buts thats Crete. We go for guaranteed sunshine and beaches. Other guests hired cars as is is a bit out of the way, but for 7 nights there was a different place to eat everynight.

Could not fault the whole holiday, don't understand the bad reviews at all. Litsa and George were the perfect hostesses, nothing too much trouble. Yes the shower was temperamental, but everything else made up for it. The view over the sea was fantastic, the pool area was always scrupulously clean and food was amazing. We could not recommend it highly enough, we have been to many different apartments in many different countries and this one compared favourably with most.

Our stay at the Blue Dreams apartment could not have been better! My girlfriend and I had a great time here.
I have to say, we don't normally check reviews on our destinations but on this occasion we booked it and felt curious. I couldn't believe the negative comments we read. But I'm glad that didn't put us off. I guess most people who write on here have only negative comments, so I thought I'd balance it out with a positive one!
The family that run the Blue Dreams are entertaining, welcoming and very friendly. The drinks were not expensive, the pool was clean and the food was great.
The apartment was exactly how we expected... clean and cleaned regularly troughout our stay. No tv, but we weren't interested in that anyway!
I would recommend that you hire a car (but NOT from holiday autos!!) and visit Rethymno and Chania. A short walk away you'll find tavernas, supermarkets, petrol stations etc.
PS take the 4x4 jeep safari, it was worth it!
