Just got back yesterday from the El Paso & must say its the best A/I we have ever stayed in. Food was self service & never rushed. The main restuarant is huge & self service, so its eat until full! The food was basic but plenty of choice, I especially liked the breakfast... more

Read the reviews and was looking forward to going, but a lot of things made this holiday a great disappointment. 1) The length of time it takes to get checked in, we waited 40 mins. 2) The rooms are NOT 4 star, they are basic and smell because the furniture is all wooden,... more

Great Fun
We stayed here for 4 nights and really enjoyed the expereince. Reception were very helpful, the complex was well maintained and the rooms were very clean, a good size and air conditioned. By staying at the hotel, you get free access to both the Portaventura and Costa Cariba (Waterpark) which are next to each other, and are about 300m from the hotel. Your room keys also let you use the Express facility which means you get priority within the queues for the rides. Both parks were very good, especially Portaventura, as the rides and the shows were excellent. The hotel is on the outskirts of Salou which has an excellent sandy beach and the usual restaurants, bars, etc. that are about a 20 minute walk. It is also only a short distance from Tarragona (5 minutes on the train- Portaventura has it's own station opposite the hotel) which has many Roman sites. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.
Fabulous pool
Being new to package holidays I wasn't too sure what to expect from this hotel but was reasssured by the reviews. There is quite a lot to learn in terms of how things work (towels, meals, entertainment, park passes etc) and it is worth reading the tips in these reviews before you go to save time. The rep did cover some of these points but definitely not all. It took us a day or so to get sorted but after that everything was great. Food in the buffet was wonderful which I didn't expect, the evening entertainment was often pretty awful but entertaining none the less - the mini disco plays the same songs very loudly every night so be prepared to walk around humming some really irritating songs! The only two niggles were the constant tex-mex music played around the hotel from 9am to 9pm (could zone it out but sometimes got irritating) and the fact that few of the staff could speak English (will learn more Spanish for next year) and on occasions gave much better service to the Spaniards at the hotel than the rest of us. It is worth making sure you have plenty of Euros on you for drinks, they are pricey at the hotel but you're better off accepting this and just getting on with enjoying your holiday. Tip if you are going to the water park, make sure you go in the morning as they quickly run out of sunbeds and the big inflatable doughnuts (we thought we could just pop in in the afternoon - not the best idea in busy August!)
Good Time Had By All
My family and I have just returned from a week's stay at the El Paso. The food was very good (cooked breakfast available at no extra cost) and the staff were very helpfull. The theme park was also good, but not as good as the Florida park. Once we had spent a day in the park we had seen it all. We returned to the park in the evening to watch some of the shows. We had one day at the water park which was ok and my daughter enjoyed herself for the full day. Did not like Salou very much as there was too many shops selling rubbish! Best thing was The Vines pub as the food, drink and staff were excellent. All in all a good time for all of the family, next year however I think that we will return to Florida
Definetly recommended
Just returned from a 14 night stay at The El Paso. Great hotel, good food and good location. The only down side was the poor evening entertainment but with the theme park so close by this did not really matter. You can also go to the nearby Costa Caribe and Portaventura hotels for entertainment. The following are good tips: 1. Take a supermarket reward card or something similar so that you can leave the air conditioning on 24/7 without using one of your room cards which are needed for access to the theme parks 2. Don't buy your water from the machines in the hotel. They charge 1.25E for a 0.5l bottle, it is the same price for 5l in the supermarkets 3. Two small trains pass the hotel every 15mins. The green one is free and travels between the hotels and the theme park. The blue one can take you into Salou but costs 4. The hotel runs regular buses into Salou that are free in any event it is only about a 15 min walk 5. Tarragona is easily accesible by the nearby railway station (cost 2E, 10 mins) and is well worth a visit - watch your pockets on the train! 6. Barcelona can also be visited on the train (27E return for two adults and a child). The train journey is about an hour and a quarter and the train is packed. It is unlikely you will get a seat and again pick pockets are rife. I found the day we had in Barcelona to be heavy going and far too much to see/do in a day 7. The park is excellent with some great rides but many of the staff speak very little English - Hurakan Condor and Dragon Khan should not be missed I hope you find this revue useful
great place
we have just returned from a wonderful holiday at the el paso we stayed for 14 nights and had a great time. The family room was very clean but maybe a little small. The food was excellent plenty of variety and lots to choose from. The staff were very helpful although i thought they didnt really cater for english speaking but they did try their very best. The park was good and we all enjoyed ourselves.
hola amigos
We stayed here for 2 weeks end of june 1st week of july. It was a lovely hotel staff very friendly and polite even though we didnt speak spanish they tried their best to understand us! The pool is massive plenty of lifeguards on the lookout (good as i have 2 children aged 2 and 8). My 2 year old went under water coughed and was a bit sick but the lifeguard was there like lightening. Loved the theme park so much to do with all the shows on. The hotel offers this fantastic dine around option if you dont want to eat buffet style you can go to the theme parks restaurant and have a lovely meal instead you have an allowance but its still very good value. only grumble was that we caught an early morning flight, arrived at hotel about 11am but wasnt able to check into room until nearly 4pm! couldnt go to park as needed passes so had to sit around with luggage which basically took our first day up. Will definately go again in a few years but will not fly early morning and will try all inclusive next time.
Loved the El Paso
my family and i stayed at the Hotel El Paso for 11 nights at the end of may the hotel was fantastic, very close to the theme parks, exelent pool, excelent food we went half board with Thompson and both meals (breakfast & dinner) were great the kids loved it. The staff were very helpfull and very polite we would highly recommend this hotel
Lovely clean, comfortable hotel
Our stay at the El Paso hotel for two weeks (10-24th June 2005) was very enjoyable. The staff were very friendly (but did not speak much English), the rooms were spacious and clean and the food was satisfactory. The theme park and water park are only a five minute walk from the hotel and are both excellent for children of any age, although if visiting the water park with non-swimmers be awre that the life guards only seem interested in sitting in the sun and not saving anyone, as we found out when my father (a non-swimmer) nearly drowned in the lazy river in front of three life guards whom did not come to his aid. I also witnessed this at the hotel swimming pool with a child who had to be saved by two holiday makers at the hotel. Other than the poor supervision of the swimming pools, i cannot fault the hotel or theme park and we had a brilliant time. We will certainly be returning to the El Paso next year. Another word of advice if travelling on the trains from the station close to El Paso beware of pick pockets as we were the victims of a pick pocket on the way to Barcelona.
great for families
Just returned from Hotel El Paso where we stayed for 4 nights, and would definitely recommend it for families. The hotel is immaculate and has plenty for kids to do, from the pools (with lifeguards) to the pirate ship to the evening shows on site. Staff were helpful and polite and rooms were clean and tidy. The only downside at the hotel was the very basic food at El Coyote (a Mexican restaurant on site) but the buffet in the main restaurant was better. There's always Salou if the food isn't for you! Breakfasts were also organised chaos but generally fine with plenty to choose from. Staying at the hotel means free passes to the theme park and the water park, with express passes for some of the more popular rides. Again, in the park there is something for all ages. It does get busier at weekends. We would recommend the fiestaventura show which starts at midnight in the Meditteranea part of the park but is worth staying up for! Watch out for pickpockets at the train station as we fell foul of them on our return journey to Barcelona airport! The journey to and from Barcelona airport is quite ardous especially with luggage and kids but the trains are reliable, if busy. For families with kids of any age, Hotel el Paso and Universal Mediteranea are definitely recommended.
Highly recommended for families
We stayed for 10 nights in HOTEL EL PASO and thoroughly enjoyed it. I cannot find any fault with the hotel at all WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT FOR FAMILIES. Our two children of 4 and 7 were so upset when we had to go home. The hotel itself is quite large but seemed to have as many staff as guests. They were very friendly and efficient. The rooms were plenty big enough for 4 and were very clean. The pool at the hotel was very good with numerous lifeguards on duty who were actually watching the pool all the time. There were activities during the day hosted by the entertainment staff who all spoke various languages and a childrens disco in the evening as well as some other good entertainment later for the whole family. The hotel cardkey also gave unlimited access to Port Aventura and until the end of June unlimited access to Costa Caribe water park. the park entrance was only a short walk from the hotel but a road train service runs regularly from the hotel entrance to the park entrance. The park was not too busy in June but is a lot quieter on weekdays . We stayed on a half board basis and breakfast and dinner were buffet style. The choice of food was very good with something to suit all tastes. If you want to visit Salou it is easily reached on foot although there is a good bus service from the park and a free shuttle bus from the hotel but only three or four times a day. barcelona is quite easy to visit as a train stops only a very short walk from the hotel. WE WOULD DEFINITELY RETURN TO THE EL PASO.
