What a dump. The first room stank of smoke, which was no mean feat when it is a non-smoking hotel. The sink was in the same the room as the beds and the bath was the length of two pieces of hand luggage. The second room looked out onto a rooftop, which had a broken chair... more

“Lets start at the very beginning…a very good place to start”…as the song goes!!! Our party of 3 adults and 2 children arrived at the 'Villa Marina Club Hotel in Salou, later on Sat. evening, 31st July, to find an extremely noisy, chaotic and dirty hotel. Reception staff had allocated us a 2 bedroom apartment in an adjoining block, away from the main hotel and partially, we found, occupied by local Spanish couples. (THANKFULLY,LATER WE WERE GRATEFUL FOR THIS). Upon entering the apartment, we found.. NO air-con, a child’s bed-frame with a broken spar with jagged edges…both the living room and main bedroom patio doors had broken locks, the kitchen patio door would not lock securely…therefore we had no security. The whole place had not seen a duster, good brush or a clean mop for some considerable time. The following morning, we discovered, after flushing the toilet, ‘water‘(etc) was leaking from the base of the toilet, onto the bathroom floor, whereupon we had to wrap a towel around it to stem the flood. This itself took 4 days to be repaired after CONTINUALLY reporting the leak to reception, (each day for the next 4 days, they said that they had no report about it, even after annotating the fault on their ‘to do’ log sheet, every day). Pots, cutlery, etc .had not been checked and as we found, one milk pan had been boiled dry and simply left. As regards the ‘Hotel’…where do I start? Do you like unhelpful reception staff, dirt, sticky floors…unsupervised, noisy, rude and unruly children…excessive use of microphones and sound system with unintelligible ‘entertainers’…continual queuing for (max 2 per visit) drinks at the bar… poor selection of food, laid out in a dining hall, insufficiently large enough to accommodate the amount of people being catered for (nearly always queues for ‘dinner’)… and on one occasion, with a floor so greasy and slippery, you might thing you were on an ice-rink (we saw 2 people fall due to this). Coming down early, for breakfast, we saw that floors were not being cleaned until 8am + and the soles of our shoes stuck to the floor as we made our way towards the dining hall. Other guests we spoke to had also complained about the condition of the hotel, including the food, reception, noise, music, etc. which often continued well into the early hours. There were 2 sets of toilets available within the hotel, the worst of which had to accommodate both an outdoor pool area and main hotel area. This one continually was…I’ll let you guess it’s condition!! …the second was not that much better, being situated, just outside the dining area where one might expect a high level of hygiene to exist. Around the one guest’s TV area, (mainly Sky sports) the language of some guests, often matched the state of the hotel and its toilets. Our family, as did others we made friends with, on quite a number of occasions, ate out, due to the poor quality of the food presented at mealtimes… and rather than queue for drinks of an evening, went out to the town to avoid the ‘racket’ and have some peace and quiet. Prior to vacating our rooms by 10am, I confirmed, with reception, that a courtesy room would be available, in order for us to have a shower, later in the day, prior to departure at 5 pm. Come 4.00pm I asked for the room only to be informed that they no longer had the room available. In NO WAY can the owners of this establishment , justify the way this ‘hotel’ is run…other than as one member of staff (not from reception) courteously said, before going off duty,… after hearing me complaining, prior to leaving…quote “As long as the hotel is full, THEY are happy and that is all that they are interested in. This place is advertised as being “All Inclusive”….it is…believe me…they also accommodate cockroaches…I stood on one in the dining hall, the Friday evening, before we left….stay away!
Poor
Just returned on Sunday 7th August. I am fairly easy to please and made the most of my annual holiday. The food was limited and we checked what was available each night and would decide weather to eat out. The tables were not cleared, you tended to do it yourself and you no sooner sat down and your back looking for butter or water everything everywhere no thought given to the layout of food or drink etc. The entertainment is very loud and there was no place to retreat from it. The queues for drink was cruel especially when you had the kids in the same queue and then you were only allowed two drinks. The grounds were dirty and the staff seemed only to start cleaning at around 8am. There are about 120 beds to 500 people and both pools were very small. One side of one pool spent most of the day in the shade and the other had a baby pool with the adult pool this pool did not open until 9am. The second pool was more suited to children of 5 upwards as they could stand in most of it you could get your beds here at 8am. The rooms are small but it is the lack of space to put away clothes which stayed in the cases and the cases took up the only floor space as there was no place to put them. Bathroom had half size bath with the toilet and the sink was in the room as it would not fit in the bathroom. There were 23 of us 11 Adults and 12 kids and the kids were not impressed with the place location. We walked to the beach four times in our second week as we had enough of the place and it is a good 30 minute walk. The beach is lovely and all the facilities are excellant there, Salou itself is lovely. The entertainers I would think never hear of the Republic of Ireland as every night they shouted out! Are you from England, Scothland, Wales, Northern Ireland????? There is one lift that takes forever and out of a large group of people who have went on holidays for the last 4 years together, both Adults and Kids were very dissappointed with this one. The area is just too small and the pools are too small to cater for the amount of people. When smoking is banned next year God help those who pick this hotel in 2006 the area outside is also tiny. We went down to Salou at least 5 nights out of 13. We went All Inclusive last year and it was absolutely heaven (Bahia Principe in Teneriffe). With the Villa Marina Club if you pay peanuts you should expect to get monkeys i.e. YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET and it was cheap. I would recommend those from the the Green Isle to stay clear of this one. Definately won't be recommended this hotel to anyone.
The Ballymena 16.
Just back a week since we had a great family holiday in SALOU, at the Villamarina Hotel. Catering and bar staff were very good and helpful. Also there was a good presence of security on site and safety around the pool areas with a life guard during swimming pool opening times. Rooms were a bit on the small side but kept clean and tidy by the maid service. There was a very good selection of food for adults and children, the quality of fruit was excellent. Also having been on All-inclusive holidays before some times the Beer is undrinkable but here the Beer and drinks were very enjoyable. Entertainment for adults and children was varied and presented by a good entertainment team. Thanks to all at Villamarina Club Hotel.
In bad need of repair
Very disappointed on arrival rooms requested not given. Surrounding areas around the complex unpleasant to the eye. Receptionist very unhelpful. 2 swimming pools very small. The only thing that stood to this hotel was the buffet it was excellent.
terrible
me and my husband arrived at this hotel at 10 morning, could not get in our room untill 2 15 it was very hot that day we just wanted to get a shower, and get into somthing cool.when we did get in the room it was very small and so stuffy no air conditioning, asked reception for a fan there was none, good start. the bar you are only ollowed 2 halve glasses a time, there is allways a big line off adults and children, bar closed at 12 oclock you dont get a lot off time to sit out because the security men send you to bed , i have got children myself they are grown up now,but there were children running wild, they were setting fire alarms off in the early hours banging on doors.not a very nice place i wont ever go back there is entertainment day and night in the bar not a lot for adults. we went out most nights to a bar called danny boys, bit better entertainment for us,if you go there the rooms are small for 2 i would not like it if four people were in it .the balconys are very small ,no wear to hang your wet clothes, not a good hotel for me...
Good
I thought Villa Marina Was Great, There was the monkey club for the kids and the pool tables, swimming pool, snack bar, table tennis, shops down the road and i nice walk to the beach. The Buffy was nice but the food was mostly the same dinner, The nightclubs were great, and i would love to go again, the only thing i can complain about is the rooms i thought they could have been a little bit better
excellent food, good value for money hotel
Just returned from a week over half term period. Party included 12 and 15 yr old, plenty to do for all ages. Salou a wonderful resort. Hotel offered excellent food and always plenty of variety and quantity. Good entertainment by English team who worked really hard to please all. Slightly cramped around pool area at times and in bar area during evenings. All staff really hard working and friendly. Stayed in re-furbished rooms which were modern and clean. Great value for money and a real family hotel only a short taxi ride from Reus airport.
Mneh
Firstly, i loved salou, and the walk to the main front isn't too bad, about a half hour from the hotel. It feels very safe and i often wandered alone around the town. Upon first sight of the hotel i was'nt too impressed, there was lots of noise and screaming kids without an adult in sight. The entrance was okay, but the lounge was'nt the cleanest, the sofa's were a bit worn. We stayed on the first floor mid-way down the hall. We faced the tower block and unfortunately were directly above the night club, which did'nt close till the early hours of the morning. I was 16 at the time and did'nt find any of the entertainment appealing. The parrot show was alright, but the hairy russian dancers were not at all what were promised. The bar staff were friendly and we tipped often. There was'nt a very nice smell though. We were all inclusive which helped, free drink all day and night. And obviously the food. Which was'nt the best i've had, but it was'nt too bad. My parents enjoyed it though. Did'nt go in the pool, but often read next to it. The pool snack bar was great, help yourself to hot dogs, burgers, chips etc. Things not available in the restaurant. I often skipped my meals and just went to the snack hut when it opened. Free transportation was dangerous to say the least. The driver also doubled as the gym man, the person you hired bikes from, and the gift shop man. (The gift shop sold a postcard, and that was it. The gym was a treadmill which looked like it was home made.) The mini-bus had 8 seats or so, no seatbelt or interior floor, just metal, he drove to the middle of Salou and then to the theme park once an hour. We got it once and never returned. Walk there! Save yourself! Rooms were scruffy, i did'nt like the safe . . . there was'nt a safe, it had been stolen some weeks before. They had a filing cabnet in the foyer which doubled as the safety depost box. When you pulled a draw the filing cabnet tipped. I did'nt think it was secure. Lots of excursions available, but we amused ourselves. The Theme Parks are good, and a taxi only costs 7 euro. I could'nt see it being an expensive hotel i had to drink myself happy with plenty of vodka everynight. But i guess if i had no money and i wanted a noisey hotel, i would certainly stay here. If i were you i'd spend a little more and stay in the fabulous port Aventura hotels.
best ever
this was our first all inclusive hotel and I must say with a family it was everything we hoped for even better. The staff were excellent and very freindly and made you feel welcome from the first time you arive until our last day. This has spoilt us and we will without a doubt be returnig there without fail.
loved it bar staff lovely
