Just have been in Alonia apartments. Just fantastic place, nice quiet and good area. On a few minuts walk you find Restaurant Assotos Yios. A really good place. The people are so friendly and the food is very good! Very easy to find, just on the road

We stayed here in 2007 and it was so good we went back again in 2008. Mike the owner is a great bloke and the apartments are spot on. Its a quiet little place but there are still some smashing restaurants within a couple of minutes walk. It's easy to get into Hania and you can drive to the southern/eastern beaches which are perfect (just don't lock your keys in the car like we did!).
Its a matter of time before we go back - and I always swore i'd never return to the same place twice! Only this time we'll be taking our new daughter too!

We have just returned from an absolutely fabulous holiday staying at the Alonia Apartments - Mikey is a legend - we have never, ever received such a welcome and such generous hospitality. Mikey made my birthday a special one to remember. The Alonia Apartments are superb value, the actual apartments are spacious, very comfortable and in very pretty surroundings, the pool area is again beautifully kept. Kolymbari is a pleasant walk along the beach road. If you are feeling fit the Gorge walk is well worth the effort - but be prepared to have difficulty walking for a few days! All the other comments saying how great the place is are true.

My wife and I have just got back from a really memorable, quiet and relaxing two week stay at the family run Alonia Apartments. Words cannot really express what a wonderful holiday this was. Right from our arrival the owner, Michael, was kind, sympathetic and throughout our holiday was always so friendly helpful and generous- the perfect host. Our room was exactly as we had asked- quiet and with lovely views, and the room service was very good. Every now and then Michael would give us some free produce from his large garden and I can recommend his pool bar breakfasts and evening meals if you don't fancy walking to the local restaurants. Do not miss his Friday night BBQ's!!
There are a few restaurants within a 500 metre walk and Kolymbari, which is a quiet fishing village with some nice fish restaurants is about a 20 minute walk away. There are a few local shops opposite the complex (not expensive) and a larger supermarket with a cash point some 800 metres away. There is a regular air-conditioned bus service to other areas such as Chania and Platanias if you want some busy night life, although to see more of this lovely island I would have to recommend hiring a car- there is car hire available locally (about 400 yards away).Crete is a beautiful island and Chania, with it's old port, is a must to visit- we shall definitely be going back.If you like our review and decide to go then please mention Ray and Jackie's review on this site and say "Hi" and "thankyou" to Michael and his family for us. We hope you enjoy your holiday as much as we did!! We give the Alonia 10 out of 10. If you see any bad reports then it is probably the fault of the holidaymakers, not the Alonia Apartments !

Well what can we say. An absolute gem, please do not tell anyone, keep it a secret! Fabulous apartments, superb pool and gardens. Mike a superb host, so friendly and his cucmbers a joy. Kolymbari a lovely village and some super tavernas. The terrace one on the front definately had the best moussaka. The tavernas to the right of the apartments just off the main road also excellant, espcially the Esperides. Mikes barbeques on Friday night do not miss! Beware of Raki you get it everywhere but Mike does have honey in his and it does tone it down a touch.
We have been to Crete many times but to the East of the island, our first time to the West and gosh it is so beautiful. Elafonisi and and Gramvousa well worth a visit. Absolutely 10 out of 10 for Alonia apartments but please keep it quiet!

Just returned from a week at the Alonia and we had a truly wonderful holiday. Crete is beautiful and was made even more special by the warmth and hospitality received from everyone at the Alonia. Mike the owner is absolutely superb and cannot do enough for you. He is so friendly and makes you feel right at home from the minute you arrive. The apartments are lovely, spacious and clean, the pool is crystal clear and kept incredibly clean too and the surrounding grounds are beautiful and also kept immaculate.
The apartments are situated in a quiet relaxed village with a selection of about 5 or 6 nice tavernas within a 5 min walk and Kolymbari, the fishing village with a selection of seafont tavernas is about a 30 minute walk away too. The local bus service is also ideal for getting around. We wanted to explore the island so we hired a car and would recommend getting out and about as there are some real treasures around the island (e.g Eloffinissi Beach, Kournas Lake)
All in all we had a fantastic, relaxing and enjoyable holiday and did not want to leave. So if you are after a relaxing holiday surrounded by lovely people and gorgeous surroundings then Alonia apartments is the place for you

Wonderful holiday rates amongst the best. Perfect weather. Superb accomodation.Wonderful host, Not really isolated as there is a bus stop nearby. Plenty of walks. Kolymbari is only 20 -30 minutes stroll. with a variety of restaurants by the harbour. If a car or scooter is hired there are endless places to visit. However if you just want to chill this is the place to be. Hospitality from Mike is unrivalled. The barbecue is not to be missed. Really well worth a return visit. Thank you Mike

We stayed at the Alonia in September 2007, having booked a last minute deal through Olympic, although the last stop on the bus it was worth the wait.
The owners are fantastic and could not do enough to help you out even taking our bags to our room and showing us how the lights worked etc.
The apartments are away from everything so we hired a jeep just down the road from the apartments at 250 Euros for a week which was excellent and really good value for money, I would suggest doing this as we saved so much money rather than going on the organised tours.
I would gladly go back as we had such a brillant time, nothing I could fault at all.

To answer the preceding comments , we stayed the last 2 weeks of May, and most tavernas etc were open. The beach at its nearest point is not unlike Brighton i.e large rounded pebbles, and it shelves quite steeply.
Mike is a one-off, a wonderful warm-hearted and generous spirited person. If he has a surplus of eggs from his chickens, or apricots from his tree ( or I'm told other fruit later in the year) he passes them to whatever guests are about at the time. If you express an interest in any local event, place etc, he's off before you can think and researching it for you. He seems to want to be busy on your behalf, but will leave you in peace perfectly happily too.
The pool and area are spotless and a delight to use. The light chlorine in the water would doubtless harm the grass, esp as it's not Brit type grass.
We left feeling indebted to Mike for many kindnesses, but he wouldn't accept any suggestion of a gift or something from home. So the best I can offer is a good review in the hope that his business thrives this year and always.

My partner and I took our 2 year old to stay at the Alonia Apartments and had a lovely time. We found Skoutelonas where the apartments were situated a little quiet but that may have been due to it being the first two weeks into the season with only a handful of tavernas to dine at. The main road is particularly busy which was a problem with a buggy as there wasnt always a pavement.
All the previous reviews stated that the owner Mike was fantastic, and although he was helpful in most areas we found him a little obsessed with keeping has grass immaculate and the pool area tidy (ie sunloungers to be pointing the correct way). He told my two year old not to get water from the pool onto the grass!!? The playarea consisted of a slide and two see-saws and was not separate to the pool. Probably not the best place to stay if you have small children.
The rooms were spotless and cleaned most days.
The beach was a pebble beach.

My mum, sister and I just holidayed here and we had a great time. The apartments are comfortable, clean and fresh. The views from either the front or the rear of the apartments are spectacular. Mike and his family made us feel at home and the word 'no' is not in his vocabulary! We only stayed a week but it felt like longer; next time it will be longer!
None of us drive but we got out and about by foot and on the luxurious buses, but to be honest the atmosphere at the apartments was so nice and relaxed we spent a lot of time there eating, swimming, snoozing and chatting to the cats and new friends.
The bbq was jolly, food fantastic and we have met some great people! We're definitely going back! If you appreciate a scenic sunset and calm, and really want to relax then this is it!

Just returned from another brilliant holiday at the Alonia. Everything is spotless (rooms pool & bar & grounds). Nothing too much trouble for Mike makes you welcome as soon as you arrive. Try his Breakfast's "great" also his Barbeque night's very g ood,but be very hungry for both of them.
There is a excellent family run Restaurant "Esperides" just down the road 5-10mins walk up a side street next to Pergammon Village Apts. Very good fresh food very good prices.
