Oct 2006, Mr C Wilkinson

I've just returned with my wife from Sol Piramides and my wife quoted 'it’s the best accommodation we have ever stayed in', and believe me we've stayed in some good ones such as Disney All Star etc. This hotel is very clean, the rooms are big with a spacious bathroom and free to use safety deposit box.
The food is much better than the last reviewer gave it credit for. Breakfast consists of buffet salad dishes, cereal, and my favourite’s croissants and jam, followed by the buffet full course English breakfast. Yes the food was not piping hot but it was more than certainly edible as we stayed and had breakfast at the hotel the complete 7 days we were there. The dinner was ok, and consist again a salad buffet, soup of the day, and then the hot plate where there was a different meat dish everyday from kebab, pork chop and dogfish. At first the food didn’t seem that warm as for some strange reason the dishes were cold at the start of the hot plate where the meat is cut and served, then we found where the further along(sort of hidden) the plates were hot and this kept the food much warmer.
There were some downsides the mini-bar is useless and keeps nothing cold at all. We had a minor problem also with the toilet and it took 7 times to get this fixed due to terrible communication from the maintenance engineer (who cannot speak any English) to the receptionist. Also the entertainment is more geared towards the Spanish people and a pint of Heineken was 4.20euros.
The pool area was nice but it’s the coldest pool you will ever experience, I got out after only 45 seconds of entering. There is a 2 Jacuzzis on the basement floor but this is split for men and women, so you can’t share with your partner.
The hotel is ideally located and is only a 3/4 of a mile away from the main beach (10-15 min walk) and around 2-3 mile walk (25-30min) from Port Aventura theme park. I do well recommend the Barcelona Magic fountains (includes tour of nou camp) trip for 42 euros each from 2pm start to midnight coming home it’s a bargain. Barcelona is truly a beautiful city.

Just returned from Sol Piramide and...

Just returned from Sol Piramide and we are glad to be home. Although the hotel and rooms were clean, the fridge in our room was useless and no extractor fan in Bathroom. This is our first time going half board and will be the last. The main problem was the food which was terrible.
Same thing most nights and was either cold or lukewarm at best. As an environmental health officer by profession I considered it unsafe for my family to eat lukewarm meat, fish or poultry, so we only ate what amounted to bread and dessert on six evenings. Obviously having to eat out the rest of the fortnight increased the cost of the holiday dramatically.
Also we found the resort to be dirty and covered in graffiti, particularly on the wall outside the hotel. The hotel was full of Spanish families and everything was for their benefit. We will not be returning to Salou and will never use a sol hotel or go half board again.

after reading the reviews for the hotel, I wasn’t looking forward to going to Salou, the hotel was within walking distance of all that Salou had to offer, it was large bright and airy, and most of all it was very clean, the staff were always very pleasant, and couldn’t do enough for you, the rooms were quite large, the view from the balcony wasn’t great, but who cares, the food wasn’t too bad, it was better than we expected from the reviews, some nights it was very good some nights it wasn’t too good, but we always found something we never left hungry, there was always plenty of beds and parasols round the pool, although it was about 11am before the sun got round to the pool. After all we enjoyed our stay in Salou, and will be returning in the future.

It was a Family holiday to Salou, 2 adults 1 child and a baby. Reus airport is only 15 mins from the resort which is a blessing when coupled with the short flight.
Staff are friendly. Rooms are nice and clean with fridge air conditioning.
The buffet restaurant was nice & clean, with a good selection even though we stayed 10 night we found we had plenty of choice.
The sunlight on the pool in the morning is blocked by the hotel itself until mid-day, plenty of sun loungers though.
Will definitely go back to the resort again and probably the hotel. Salou is tacky in the usual seaside town type of way but the kids love it.

We have just returned from our stay...

Sep 2005, Mr M Lewis

We have just returned from our stay in the Sol Piramide, Salou. This a nice, clean hotel away from the main town of Salou, but within easy walking distance of shops, bars etc.
We are a couple in our 20's and I have to admit, this hotel did seem suited to the more mature guest ;o)
Saying that, there was a group of 6 trouble causers all in there 70's when we were there, ha!
The hotel, whilst not being a 4 star in everyone’s opinion is very comfortable. The food in the restaurant is good enough for most, with a wide choice most nights, but again may not be up to everyone’s standard.
We went out to eat a couple of times out of choice, not necessity.
The pool area is again very clean and well maintained, but the pool is the coldest I have ever come across in my life. Mainly due to the fact that the sun doesn’t hit that side of the hotel until 11am.
The staff are excellent and very helpful. If you have kids the female members of staff are very attentive to them and speak excellent English, so can communicate with them easily.
Overall, whilst we had a good time in this hotel I don’t think we would rush back to Salou.
It is a bit too "tacky" in a Blackpool kind of way, every shop selling "Rasta" figurines doesn’t really do it for me!
The beach and the promenade are lovely and there are a few nice bars around there. But when venturing into the rest of Salou be prepared, it's a bit like a box of chocolates... You just never know what you're going to get!!!

May 2005, Miss N Thorndyke

The hotel was very clean modern and had what you would call a wow factor when you walked into reception, the room was everything we wanted and kept to a high standard or cleanliness, the safety deposit box was free of charge which was good.
However the location and hotel was poor, it was almost set on a roundabout with noise from traffic and barking dogs from the locals apartments, which we were overlooked and shaded by all day. This was very annoying at times and did wake us up a lot early mornings when locals were going to work etc. Rooms on the front of the hotel didn’t have such noise problems.
The pool was clean but shaded for about half of the day making it freezing cold. But as for the state of the art gym it was a complete joke (this was not 4 star) there were two cycling machine, 1 weight lifting device which had broke, 4 steps for aerobics and as for the smell it made us feel sick, the water in both tiny Jacuzzis was a kind of green/yellow colour so we gave all that a miss.
Food was not so good same food the whole week, deserts were poor and hardly no fresh fruit; melon and strawberries about three times in the week, tinned peaches and pears every day.
Location wise only 5 to 10 minute walk from most of the nightlife, pretty low key, one club on sea front and the rest was bars and restaurants, good for families though beach and promenade very clean.
We had an ok week but I don’t think we would return.

Just come back from a family holiday...
8 / 10
Aug 2004, shazrazmataz

Just come back from a family holiday to Salou. Reus airport must be the smallest airport in the world ! it took an hour & half standing around before we claimed our luggage. The coach journey only took 10 mins.
The staff were friendly & before long we were in our room. It was a lovely room, really clean & the bathroom had a hairdryer, shampoo, shower gel & liquid soap, which came in very handy. There was a safety deposit box & fridge, which was free of charge & the air conditioning, was fab, but did tend to be too cold during nighttime.
The restaurant was lovely & clean, it was a buffet restaurant serving hot & cold food. I did find that the food did go cold quickly. There was plenty of choice, even for me as I am a vegetarian.
The pool & pool area was fab. It did take a while before the sun came round, usually around 11.30 am. There was plenty of sun loungers but not much umbrellas. There was also a lifeguard who adored children, she even taught my two daughters to dive.
Salou it self, what can I say, I didn’t like it very much. It was very loud & dirty, a bit like Blackpool. But luckily enough the hotel was around 20 mins away from all the hustle & bustle.
The only negative thing I can say is the road outside the hotel was a little noisy, not so much with cars but drunken passers by & there was no Thomson’s Rep at the hotel, they were at a different hotel & you had to walk 10 mins to get there if you wanted to see a rep ! The hotel did have a lot of Spanish guests especially at the weekend, (no German guests !)we had a lovely holiday but we won’t be going back there.
