This was a holiday from hell. I booked a family holiday for two weeks but we came home a week early (after a lot of hassle with reps). This hotel is less than 15 miles from Spain’s biggest petrochemical site in Tarragona! That was not the worst thing.
Our balcony overlooked a building site, a tourist coach station, petrol station and dual carriageway. The walls were paper thin so you did not get any sleep because of the constant noise and you certainly did not have any privacy. The 'family' outing was a bar crawl with the children!
Salou its self is a dump. It is full of graffiti and rubbish and stank. It has been ruined by 100s of English pubs selling greasy English food.
Avoid this hotel if you have any sense. Also if you have any complaints First Choice will not help you.

This is probably the best hotel in the Costa Dorada (golden coast) I went in 2001 when I was only 10 and I really enjoyed it. I am returning to Salou in 2 weeks time and my parents have already booked us up for next year.
I really would recommend this place for families or young couples wanting to spend some time. It has everything: an indoor heated swimming pool (with Jacuzzi), sauna, gym and outdoor pool and that is just inside the hotel. Around the hotel is a lot of things too, there is a train which takes you to Barcelona just over the road 5 minutes walk from Porta Ventura / Costa Caribe and 10 minutes away from the sea-front.
I would recommend everyone to take a tour of Barcelona this is one of the most beautiful cities in the world see the sites of Las Ramblas, the Nou Camp (FC Barcelona, the Olympic stadium (Espanyol stadium) and the Sagrada Familia. The best holiday I have ever been on!

I have to say this was possibly the best holiday I have ever had. I’m 20 and my boyfriends 24 and there was loads to do. The bars were pretty good about 10 mins away from hotel so we had no noise. The staff were exceptional and in regards to the food you couldn’t have asked for more!! There was always a good selection of meat, fish and salad as well as the usual chips etc for the kids.
We visited the Port Aventura theme park and the water park as we got a three day pass, should have really only got a two day pass because the water park was packed on a weekend but the theme park was amazing!
Do not go on the boat trip with the glass bottom as there were no sun loungers and we got a bit ripped off.
In regards to the hotel though, it was sparkling and was cleaned and new towels were left every day. The pools were clean and there were loads of activities for the kids.
The entertainment wasn’t really what I liked and could be improved but I am definitely going back to the same hotel next year as it could not be faulted. If you go here you will be far from disappointed!

We stayed here 19/5 - 26/5 2006 due to over booking at the Villa Romana Hotel, and what a pleasant surprise it was too.
Rooms are bright, clean and have air conditioning. Food was very good and we all enjoyed every meal we had! Yes it's buffet style and some things are repeated nightly, but we didn't have the same meal twice during our week long stay.
Location is excellent for Port Aventura as it's only about half a mile up the road. The hotel runs a free bus to and from the beach and Port Aventura for those who don't wish to walk!
I'd of given this review 10/10 if only we hadn't of had the room next to the lift and stairs (doors banging when people go through).
All in all a great hotel to stay at.

We were overall disappointed with this hotel, mainly because of noisy football fans on our floor making lots of noise which wasn't the hotels fault and the hotel rooms were nice with a TV and fridge (for un-stocked mini bar).
Indoor pool was lovely, but outdoor wasn't filled (too cold-out of season). Our biggest complaint was the restaurant - food was crap, and mostly cold, although supposed to be buffet style it was like a motorway service station, frozen reheated food. Reus' airport facilities were below average and I really don't know how they cope in high season.
The biggest disappointment was the dining experience which left a lot to be desired especially for a rated 4* hotel.

Good family hotel, excellent location for visiting theme park.
Food good, rooms very clean. Mini coach runs to and from Beach. Staff helpful, but not in your face.
Handy for a day trip to Barcelona, Overall would recommend for excellent family holiday! ps. the new water theme park is great. GOOD TIP, go after 2pm and the cost is nearly half. and the rides are not as busy as everybody has done them in the morning!!!!!

A concrete and glass 2-sectioned building standing at right angles to each other, set around a run of the mill pool with a pool-bar.
This hotel is a good distance away from the resort centre and is not near any bus routes, so walking is a must to get to most things. The hotel lacks any character and operates purely as a eat and sleep venue.
Restaurant food is the typical Spanish buffet served in most hotels, not of any great quality and the staff do not appear very enthusiastic. The bars operate a plastic glass idea for all drinks, and priced above the average for the area. Entertainment is of a low standard provided by Spanish entertainment team and mainly suited to 10-year-old Spanish children.
The location and character of this hotel was very disappointing and would not consider it of 4 star grade. The hotel incidentally although a Sol is not run them but by another company under franchise, not for us again.

Came back from Salou after a week of bliss. Use to live in Salou in my youth... many moons ago so was really strange to go back as a tourist.
The hotel was fantastic. We couldn’t have asked for more. The staff were great, especially Carolina in the dining room. Food was ok though we heard a few people complaining. There was always something there to make a really nice meal with. People forget that they are catering for different nationalities, not just the English. Check out the guy at the back on the grill cooking fresh roasts...YUM!!!! That’s the food not the bloke cooking! The pool was lovely and warm and not too deep even in the deep end.
The reps tried really hard with the mini club and were great with the kids. Entertainment every night, flamenco night isn’t great though! When I was a kid it was all frilly dresses, not anymore. Its all slinky dresses and gorgeous women with fabulous figures. After a week of grub and beer its the last thing any women wants to see, although it gives you a great incentive to get on that diet when you get back home!!!!!!!!!
We are already planning to return in July next year, cant wait. A tip for anyone who loves sangria, there is a great restaurant near the fountain that overlooks the sea, you really really really cant find a better place to go, my little girl and a some friends we met used to sit there and the kids sat and played in the sand as the sun went down. A little piece of paradise if ever there was one. Back to the hotel, maid service was every day but the cleaners have light fingers so beware. Every time I go on holiday I always leave my small change in an ashtray in the room to leave for the cleaners at the end of my hols, well this time they kept stealing from it so at the end of my jollies I took the lot to the restaurant and gave it to them. If only the cleaners knew eh! Another highlight was the pool on Saturdays, the reps hire big inflatable for the kids and everyone has a great time. Also as I used to live there I know of another water park. We visited Costa Caribe and were disappointed, it’s so small that you feel you are practically sitting on top of one another. The best water park is situated at La Pineda, a short taxi ride away. Its a lot bigger and it has a dolphin show three times a day, as they say, the old ones are the best.
All I can say people is enjoy enjoy enjoy. See you next year, as we will definitely be there.

Just returned from a week staying in the Sol Costa Daurada (30/6-07/07) - personally, I could not fault the location, standard, facilities and service provided by all the staff working there. Most people speak English at the hotel, but be polite, try to learn the odd greeting in Spanish – they will appreciate it.
One small concern – not a great deal of choice for young children, but this may be commonplace in Hotels. Reus Airport was only a 15min coach journey for us – Reus can only handle one plane in and out at a time . . . this means no waiting for your luggage, and no large distances to cover by foot.
There are a couple of points I would like to pass on, that may be of some use. The distances from the hotel quoted on most websites & books to both the beach and the park are slightly on the short side. I would estimate that it is about a mile to both - this is not a problem though as there is a courtesy minicoach that regularly runs between the two - used wisely, the walking is kept to a minimum.
There is also a courtesy bus that runs to the Salou Karting circuit – great service as it tours the local area between collection points . . . beware that no prices are quoted on any literature – only when you get to the circuit do find out why. For a 5-minute session it will cost 20Euros (10 mins cost 28Euros) – good fast karts and circuit, but don’t get caught by the expense.
Also recommend taking train to Barcelona – amazing value at 5.5Euros single for a 1.25 hr journey by the coast. There is a station 400 yds from the hotel (Port Adventura), don’t use the Salou stop which is in the city centre. A tip – get off at Sants, the first main terminal station on the railway/metro station as you enter Barcelona (this is also near the Nou Camp stadium). Open top tour buses were very busy, but a travel card can be purchased for the underground metro, which is very easy to negotiate. Hope this helps in your visit – if I can be of any further assistance then please get in touch.

Supposed upgrade from H10 Europa Park hotel that we stayed at last year in Salou.
One of the worst hotels I have stayed in and I've stayed in a 'few' all over the world. First night - children (5 & 1) woken up at 10pm by cleaners cleaning the room next door. Complained to reception - no action.
Staff did not seem interested; off-hand. Evening entertainment was pathetic - bingo/Polynesian dancers.
Food - breakfast selection adequate. Evening meal - chips and baked beans served every night - no other potato choice. Only one potato alternative (other than chips) and one other vegetable alternative - overcooked broccoli served one night during our one week stay. It appeared that some food was 're-processed' i.e. sausages from breakfast re-cooked/reheated/cut up/fried for evening.
Room - cleaning was minimal. Mould around bottom of bath shower; grout missing from tiles in bathroom; leg loose on table; bedside light fitting loose. Towels were worn; tattered; holes in. No lock on 'in-room' safe.
To sum up - would not recommend to anyone. Not worth the 4* rating. Avoid like the plague!
