Golden apartments is a lovely place stay in Ag Nik. It is a small and friendly place to stay, away from the hussle and bussel of town, which was just great for my husband and i. Although we are a young couple,we prefer not to be on the door step of clubs or noisy pubs. The apartments are very clean, it has a super efficient cleaner, who tends to the rooms every other day(could have done with bringing her back home with me)!
It takes about 25min to walk into town, depending on your pace. However this really isnt a problem and we enjoyed the walk into town. There are no lights along that road, however we felt as safe as houses on our walks back to the hotel. Alternatively taxi's are easily available and cost around 5 to 6 euro's. Yanni(John) the owner can call you one to take you into town if you so wish.
The owner Yannis(John) and his wife Eleni are wonderful hosts and they really helped make our holiday. Incredibly kind people, nothing was ever too much trouble and they will go out of their way for you, without expecting anything in return. Just lovely people.
The pool area is great and a sun trap.
I think if you'd like a quite and friendly place to stay, clean, pool, wonderful owners, then look no further really. We were already informed of its location, the walk into town etc and thats precisely the reasons we chose Golden Apartments. We would certanly stay there again, using it as a base to explore more of crete.
For those wanting to try Greek food and steer away from the burgers etc, try a traditional restaurant called Portes(meaning door), great meze's there, the owner speaks english and can guide you with choosing.
If you want to learn back gammon, Yanni is a great teacher. Without making it all sound too sickly,Yanni and Eleni are just great people.

Yianni (John) and his wife Helen, the owners, made us very very welcome indeed. It was quiet and not rowdy which is how we like it. It was down to earth and very friendly. We stayed in room 5 and the room was lovely with a really pretty view. The cleaning lady was very through. The rooms were cleaned from top to bottom every other day and she was very efficient, she even did our washing up for us, we didn't intend her to do it but when we got back it was all done and she had put everything away neatly - our room was spotless. The appartments are family friendly and the children just love John we don't have children ourselves but we saw how the children that were staying there just took to him and were always waving at him and smiling when we have children of our own, if John's appartments are still going, we'd take them there. If you want to stay in a quiet resort away from rowdy night clubs and club 18-30s which are NOT our cup of tea, then, we'd advise you come here. Only one small criticism and that is that the walk to the town is a good 30 mins and the walk back at night is a dark one so get a taxi or take a torch.
John, is like a teddy bear and very friendly and Helen is very very friendly indeed with a warm pretty smile. If you are like us, and you like a friendly, quiet down to earth, family friendly holiday with a warm feel about it then choose Golden appartments .

My first visit to Crete in apartment no 11 a ground floor apartment with no balcony. We arrived at 3am cllimbed over the crash barrier to gain access to golden apartments. Unfortunately it was not explained to us from the tour operator representative that the key also turns on the electricity so we fumbled about in darkness! Both the fridge and cooker are in need of modernisation. The air conditioning at an extra 7e per day is also inefficient. There was no child play area or weekly bbq as promised in brochure. However the maid service was good and provided every other day. Yanni, the owner, was friendly. The positioning of golden apartments does require visitiors to hire a car or walk a great deal on roads which are unsafe with pot holes and traffic. Ag nik has many good restaurants such as Pegalo a delicious fish restaurant. We also visited almeira beach which had lots of facilities for families.
I would lilke to return to Crete but not to Golden apartments

This is our third visit to the Golden Apartments, again we found the service exceptional. Yianni and his wife Eleni were very welcoming and very friendly as always. The apartment was basic, but very clean. Valentina the maid did a great job of cleaning our room and changing our bed linen every other day.
There was plenty of things to do, hiring a car for the length of your stay is recommended so that you are able to visit all of the island. Ag Nik is a beautiful town and is within walking distance, if you are feeling energetic!
Booking again next year without a doubt!
The family were fantastic!

The Golden Apartments was very nice, Yianni and his wife was very friendly, even though town centre was quite a walk from the apartments. would definately recommend going. we will certainly return one day. we met some very nice people because the complex was small and friendly so you got to know everyone there. Yainni bbq's are to die for highly recommend you to attend.

Staying at the Golden Apartments in Ag Nik has been one of the best holidays i've ever had and i've been lucky enough to travel alot to some very exotic places. Yyannis and Elanis were lovely and very helpful and hard working, always pleasant and smiling.
The accomodation was of a high standard, i stayed in room 2 which i believe had to be the best room, size and view wise. I liked the fact that there was a black and white cat who i fell in love with and named Nikos, who befriended me back and visited every day!
The walk into town was a very pleasant nightly ritual that we looked forward to and the actual town of Ag Nik can't be beaten for prettyness.
The excursion available from The Golden Apartments to walk The Samaria Gorge if you are fit is a must, and the views of the cascading waterfalls will stay in your memory forever. I loved my holiday and can't wait to go back.

I have just returned from the Golden Apartments where I spent a very enjoyable 2 weeks with my girlfriend. We both found the manager Yianni friendly, kind, and also very funny.
The apartments are about a 20-30 minute walk from the town centre or a 5 euro taxi ride.
This however is stated very clearly in all brochures so I can’t understand how surprised some people are in the other reviews.
Maid service is once every 2 days and the maid does a very good job.
The pool was always very clean during our 2 week stay, insects landing in the pool is out of the manager’s hands, unless he stands guard 24 hours a day, but I’m sure he has better things to do like serve cheap drinks or cook people nice food.
As for the steep hill, it’s more like a small driveway which at the most would take you 10 seconds to walk up.
If you’re looking to book here for a holiday please ignore the few negative reviews, I found them hilarious and totally wrong, I guess some people just enjoy complaining and will never be happy no matter where they stay.
We Would definitely go back to visit Yianni and his family.

This hotel is amazing, the rooms are a bit shabby but the heat is too much to be inside. Yianni is the best guy I’ve ever met, he lent us 100e so we didn’t have to exchange traveller’s cheques, and his wife drove us to a restaurant free and got us free drinks.
If you go you must go to the bbq on Monday night there’s brilliant food, English & Greek dancing, some of the things yianni and his son ask you to do are hilarious.
The only problem is that the town is a 30 min walk away but yianni will call you a taxi if you ask him to, only 5e. There are restaurants and clubs all over the place, most are outside and allot are ocean view.
If you go with Olympic you will find the excursions are expensive compared to what you can find in the town and also the Olympic excursions take hours of coach journeys and tons of heat and cost a bomb for what you get. But the hotel is brilliant and so are the staff.
The pools were ok to.

Me and my friend booked to go to golden apartments, we were really looking forward to it, especially after reading some of the reviews, stating how lovely the owners were. On arrival, we didn't meet the owners, it was very early and they don’t arrive until 10am.
Upon meeting them at the welcome meeting, I found both of them very nice, but as the holiday progressed, I found they were both reluctant to satisfy our needs.
Nothing major, but things like not wanting to provide us with toilet paper or calling taxi's for us (everyone else managed to get taxi's), even getting our lunch right was a task, we asked for 1 thing and got another.
They provided a bbq for their guests, they planned it early afternoon, so ample time to get everything ready. We were told it would be ready around 8 o'clock and we ate just after 9. Food tasted like any other bbq, it was nothing special, chicken wings, pork chop, bit of bread and salad and drinks not included. For the grand price of 15 euro each! When we read the description of the bbq, it read.. A selection of mezza's to start, salad, varied selection of fresh meats and local wine. We felt rather ripped off after that.
Despite the less than pleasing treatment we received, we managed to enjoy our holiday, Ag Nic is a beautiful resort to visit and would definitely go back, I would not, however go back to golden apartments, inhospitable and very over priced.
The owners charge 1 euro for a small bottle of water, the shops sell a small bottle for 30 cent. You will be drinking a lot of water.

This was our first stay at Golden Apartments and having read some other reviews about the famous Room8 we specifically told the agent that we did not want it and wanted an upstairs room with a balcony. Room8 is a ground floor room on the front with no windows other than one at the rear looking onto a staircase.
We had a night flight and were deposited on the main road to take our cases up the steep drive with one other couple. The rep quickly told us our room numbers and departed. We were on our own in the dark with no-one to meet us as the owners do not live on the premises. The other couple found they had been told the wrong room and could not get in and we found that we had been given Room8!! Tired and in a strange place not knowing what to do we luckily found the correct room for the other couple and they were able to get in. Our room was spacious and clean with 2 single beds and an old cooker. The fridge was efficient and there was a kettle. Under the cooker is a cupboard containing a toaster which we did not find until the last day because we thought it was the oven!
The next morning we awoke to the sound of a busy main road but the sun was shining and it was very warm. We opened the door so we could see out and there was a fine view across the pool to the sea and mountains behind.
We met the owners who were very friendly and when the holiday rep arrived we complained about being given the room we did not want but were told they could not move us except to another ground floor room so we decided to stick with it. A walk into the lovely AgNic takes about 20 minutes or so.
The pool is big enough but with no very shallow end for small children. There are plenty of sun beds. There is a small children’s play area up on the roof in the full sun and was never used.
A BBQ was given at extra cost and didn't include drinks. We went to be polite but it was not worth the expense to be honest. The room was cleaned almost every day but the cleaner had the annoying habit of tidying away your personal belongings moving everything into drawers and cupboards but to their credit it was clean and tidy!
We had a great time as always in AgNic which compensated for the room without a view and, although we didn't need it, some families complained at the lack of air con which cost extra but they were not told it cost extra until their last day so beware if you want it.
On the last day we had an early morning departure but had to vacate the room in the morning of the day before. Yanni offered to keep the room open for us for a couple more hours at extra cost. We declined and another family offered us their room to use to get changed, wash etc before leaving. The bar was left open for us until the coach arrived where we sat chatting with other guests.
We would not go to Golden Apartments again for fear of getting the dreaded Room8 but the owners were friendly and the rooms were clean but some people may not like the constant road noise and long walk into town.
My review may sound negative but that is mainly because of the room we were given. If you are lucky enough to get a balcony room you should have a very nice stay but make sure you are fit.

I have just returned from Golden Apartments and this was the worst holiday that I have ever had. It was extremely quiet and there was nothing to do. The holiday states weekly BBQ but this did not occur when we stayed. My room only got cleaned twice when this should have been cleaned on alternate days. When I spoke to Yannis about this he stated that the cleaner did not want to enter the room when someone was in it. Why did she not knock or use the door bell? Very unsatisfactory!
To get to the beach and the shops took a long time(20-30 minutes) and I will definitely not be going there again. I am so glad that I am home as this holiday was a waste of money.
