Odysseus Hotel Reviews
" excellent holiday "
Submitted By: Dave Venner
Just returned from a two week holiday in Hotel Odysseus at beautiful Paleo. We found the hotel to be first class with wonderfully friendly and co-operative staff, an excellent room in the garden annexe, breathtaking views, fine food, a varied menu, a clean swimming pool with comfortable loungers, an excellent bar and Greek entertainment evenings that were good fun. I would recommend this hotel and resort to anyone who is looking for either a restful, beach, or backpacking holiday. There are some interesting paths and mountains to explore from the hotel.
Advice: One of the most beautiful locations I have visited.
Activities: Too many to mention but the walk up the donkey track was good.
Good for: Beach

We have just returned from a week here to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday. The setting is excellent and the staff all very friendly. We " splashed out" by paying the £1 pppn extra for a sea view room and it was well worth it.Air conditioning, fridge, safe are all extra but this seems to be the norm. Our only slight criticism was the food which was a bit "samey" although nice.We ate at the Belvedere opposite on a couple of evenings and would thoroughly recommend it. I have read some of the reviews which complain about the lack of nightlife etc - surely you should read the comments about the resort before booking - they clearly state what to expect. The Olympic brochure states that you visit Paleo if you are " seeking relative tranquility amongst beutiful scenery" and the hotel comes under their Local Charm heading which"indicates small, often family run properties loctaed in quieter resorts offering a friendlier more personal service. There are limited facilities but guests are treated to an authentic holiday experience and sample the true flavour of the destination". In other words you get exactly what it says on the tin. We are already planning to return next year.
" A regular visitor to Paleokastritsa... "

A regular visitor to Paleokastritsa but a first time visitor to this hotel, I found it spotlessly clean, maid service excellent, the dining staff very friendly and cheerful and the general atmosphere very good.
The food was generally OK, breakfast a bit monotonous after two weeks as it is mainly based around various ways of serving eggs! Evening food wasn't bad, the salads in particular I thought excellent. It isn't gourmet dining, but it does the job, and there is as much as you want. Do like we did and eat out a few times for variety at some of the excellent tavernas, like Nereids, or the Belvedere over the road from the hotel.
The hotel is located more towards the 'monastery end' of the one and a half mile street that makes up Paleo so handy for the main beaches and Alippa, the boat harbour. As with all of Paleo though there are little paths that lead down to beaches everywhere if you look for them. Do get out and explore, don't waste your holiday on a poolside sunlounger!!!
I love Paleo because it is quiet and not overdeveloped and the scenery is just breathtaking, every little bay and rocky outcrop a marvel, overlooked by towering cliffs and hills just inland. If you are looking for clubs and bars there aren't really any except in high season.
I'll be back to Paleo again I know, and I'd recommend the Odysseus. We travelled with Palmair from Bournemouth rather than the more usual Gatwick and we had the most stress-free holiday ever... it all seemed so easy and unhurried!

I have just returned home from my twice a year holiday to this hotel. The Odysseus Hotel is set in an idyllic location with fantastic views across the bays of Paleocastritsa...you will never get sick of the view from the terrace as you sip your morning coffee or your wine in the evening. The hotel is family run and you receive a warm welcome and excellent service. Your room will be cleaned every day to a spotless standard, there are regular linen changes, there are fridges, safety deposit boxes and air conditioning within the rooms if you require them and with the size of the hotel you always receive the personal touch. There is a supermarket below the hotel for any needs you may have and the bus stop is located just outside the hotel if you plan to go into town. Dinner and breakfast are served in the open plan area and I have always been happy with the amount and quality of the food which is like home cooked Greek fare. There is a lift for less mobile customers.
I would not spend my hard earned cash so often on this hotel if it was not worth it. You will agree with me that it should be rated higher than a 3* If you want to relax in a fabulous setting with excellent service, a good location for exploring the island, being surrounded by walks, bars and beaches then this is the place for you. This hotel is a wee gem....don't hesitate..you will have a great time here.

A lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. The accommodation is quite basic but certainly adequate and a good proportion of the rooms have a fantastic view of Paleokastritsa Bay.
There are an awful lot of steps at this hotel and, whilst some rooms are served by a lift, a great many aren't. Air conditioning, fridge, and safe are only available at additional cost, amounting to £90 over a two week stay.
The majority of the staff, and management, are both friendly and polite. Sadly one huge drawback was the food. We were on half-board so took our evening meal at the hotel. It was never good; mostly it was poor and on a couple of occasions inedible.
Everyone we spoke to felt the same and some resorted to eating out, even though they had paid for the hotel food. Breakfast was a cheerier affair but still not great. I have read the other review here which says that the food was good and can only think that something has changed.
The pool area is a little small and quickly gets crowded. Unfortunately some rowdy teenagers made it their domain and a lot of people chose to go elsewhere. Entertainment was provided four nights per week: a vocal/keyboard duo giving lively renditions of pop music from the last 50 years (with a spirited Cher impersonation!), a karaoke evening which can only be as good as the audience, an excellent bouzouki/guitar duo and some rather average Greek dancing.
Paleokastritsa itself is very spread out along the coastal road. There are some absolutely stunning views but no shops apart from beach shops, tourist "supermarkets" and tavernas. Unless you go on an arranged trip there is really nothing to do in the daytime apart from go to the beach. This means that everyone does exactly that and at the height of the season all the beaches get quite crowded.
There are a couple of nice walks - up to the monastery is popular and not too arduous although it's quite popular with coach tours and will get crowded if you go any later than first thing. There is also a more taxing walk up to Lakones village and the famed Bella Vista. You can see right over to Corfu Town on a clear day (of which there are many).
There is also a pretty good and cheap (€2) bus service into Corfu Town but the last bus back is at 1915 so you would have to take a taxi back if you wanted to spent the evening in town, and it's a 45 minute trip, apparently costing about €35.
In the evening there are many tavernas to choose from, all of them quite spread out so you may find you have to walk for 30 minutes or so (along roads without pavements) before you find your favourite. Aside from that there is nothing to do in the evening, as the Paleo Disco seems to have closed down. There doesn't really seem to be a centre that you can amble around.

Great family run hotel. Clean comfortable and great value for money. Nice pool, amazing views.

Close to beach, mountain walks and tavernas/restaurants. Hotel staff incredibly helpful (as was the Palmair rep - Nikki). Food good, if a little basic. Resort is very quiet in the evenings.

Not sure if it was because it was early in the season, or whether the majority of people who go to Paleo go to bed around 2130!!. Fab little place for a quiet, relaxing holiday.
