Aug 2006, Mrs D.C Martinez

If your thinking of picking the Veronica for your holiday don’t. Arrived early in the morning coach dropped us and two other guests at the bottom of a steep hill. We had two suit cases and hand luggage. The rep told us to wait and disappeared for what seemed like an eternity.
Our luggage was taken to our apartment by car but we had to make our own way up this very steep hill, we are in our 50s and found this very hard going I was out of breath before I got passed the swimming pool. The apartment if you can call it that had no light in the toilet which took three days to get sorted.
The two ring electric hob took about an hour to get warm. Four plates chipped or cracked as the cups and two glasses which have never seen washing up liquid the list is endless.
In two weeks the electric went off three times. Got up one morning no water couldn’t even flush the toilet as the water is pumped up (yep no electric).
Had no hot water for nearly a week as our apps where gas heated (no gas). We had to eat out every night as we couldn’t eat the food it was that bad. We had to get taxis into the nearby town this added more cost to the holiday as the veronica is built into the side of a hill in the middle of nowhere. Complained to the rep but got nowhere with her.
Give this one a miss.

Aug 2006, JANET1.2.3

I would like to say that we had a good holiday overall. The hill, well what can I say it was more like climbing Mount Everest but after a couple of days we were making jokes about it.
It was a bit of a trek into the town, and you do have to watch the traffic, I wouldn’t recommend walking it with children. Although we did walk in most evenings, we got a taxi back at the cost of 7euros.
The rooms were very basic and could do with updating, things like air con would be great. We didn’t have to much of a problem with insects just general things to be expected as there is trees etc around you.
The views are amazing a must see. The rooms were clean and cleaned most days, with clean towels and bedding. I would like to say thank you to Bev, Justine and Alex for all there help in making our holiday a great relaxed one.
We met some great people while we were there and we are looking forward to returning with our children as they would love the pool.

Aug 2006, Mr B Frain

We read all the reviews and got a bit worried! When we arrived there is a hill but as we live in the Pennines it did not bother us a bit. 30 metres of a gradient to the main complex at the most!
We had three apartments together and they were all functional and cleaned regularly by friendly cheerful staff. We had everything we needed including a good fridge comparable to any other self-catering holiday.
The pool/bar/cafe is fantastic the views beautiful and the location was ideal. We spent all day at the pool and walked into town most nights to a good selection of restaurants and bars.
Barbargiannis (superb) and the Rose Garden were lovely. The local food and drink were great. Taxi back for a bit of entertainment at the Veronica films/karaoke/fun. We had a BRILLIANT holiday.
We met some LOVELY people that put the icing on the cake. A big thank you to Bev, Justine & Alex for whom nothing was to much trouble to make sure we had a holiday to remember.

Aug 2006, Mr M J Parnell

I read all of the negative reviews and I can confirm that they are absolute rubbish.
The apartments are basic but have everything you need and there is a hill, which is not really great if you have difficulty walking. However, the staff are superb and cannot do enough for you.
Bev, Justine and Alex are lovely, friendly people and made it a holiday to remember and treasure. I do not doubt that if you go there the superb views, the food, the lovely pool and most of all the delightful people will captivate you.
We made a whole heap of friends who we will keep in touch with. Go there and enjoy. You will not regret it.

Nov 2005, Mr N  Hinch

I stayed at these apartments for two weeks with my wife an 14 year old son. Over all we did enjoy our holiday, mainly due to the other guests.
The hotel is 1500m to the edge of town but another 800m to the start of the shops and bars. The walk to the town is quite flat. This is a main road so not suitable for young children to walk. It is also far to dangerous to walk at night even with torches as we had. The taxi fair was 7 euros, so most evenings we walked to town and taxied back.
The hotel is built on the side of a very steep hill.
A access road (which the coach does not go up) leads up to the pool area and bar. the road continues up to one sent of apartments then up even further to another set. This is very steep by any measure.
The rooms are basic but clean and satisfactory. The third BED was a camp bed, which resembled a torture rack, and impossible to sleep on as my son then myself found out. After two nights of little sleep, we ended up using a sunbed with the blankets for extra cushioning.
Also had a problem with the number of towels although other guests did not. Maybe this was due to being in the end room.
Some wasps but they leave you alone unlike the British ones.
Justin the English lady that works evenings was very helpful.
Overall you pay for what you get.
Nice pool and nice views. step hill, poor third bed.
Hotel a bit expensive compared to the town.

If you like the local bugs and...

Sep 2005, L. charalambous

If you like the local bugs and reptiles visiting you at night while you sleep, toilet waste flooding the floor, the smell of the rest of the resorts excrement in the morning, no hot water or no water at all, being in the middle of nowhere- which if you do decide to leave you put your life at risk walking in the road as there are no pavements, over priced food that tastes like it should be free, but then again even the large rats we saw, seemed very picky, and a manager that will sunbathe all day and flirt with your husband/ boyfriend.
Then 'the veronica apartments' will be ideal for you! Oh and their idea of self catering is that you just get a fridge. So forget the bikini’s, Speedo’s & stilettos, bring your hiking boots & a bit of rope, & maybe rent a couple of DVD’s "David Attenborough in the Amazon" before booking as you will needs these to get to your rooms with steep, steep hills, uneven rocky paths where the gravel will take you down, not for the weak or elderly.
If this has any stars at all then they need to be taken away immediately, these are the things that many people complained about to the Olympic rep, & they did nothing, so don’t let your hols be spoilt like ours was, if we could have lived on the beach for the 2 wks we would have...if you do decide to go to moritika I highly recommend the rose garden a restaurant where the food is great the staff are lovely and the surroundings are lively and you get drinks on the house!

1 / 10
Sep 2005, Mrs L Jackson

I was told that these apartments were 1500m from the main town. They are in reality well over 2kM's at a cost of 7 euros each way for a taxi. (14 Euros EACH return trip). The apartments are built into a hill in the middle OF NOWHERE, with nothing else around. The shop on site has water and chocolate, is never open and is twice the price of anywhere else. The bar/catering is excessively overcharged and understaffed. Breakfast costs 6.50 Euro at Veronica, as opposed to between 2.80 and 3.25 Euro in town. Do not be fooled by operators telling you it is a 20 minute walk to town. It is over 2 kms on a main coast hugging road with no pavement and you risk taking your life by walking.
Crashed cars and lorries are abandoned all the way on the walk into town. It is worse coming home as it is uphill. On a good day, the walk would take between 30 - 40 minutes but it is not recommended especially if you are not fit and cannot dodge cars, coaches, mopeds etc. All you have are a few trees between you and a 100ft drop into the rocks and sea. Beware of the excessive hill - more like climbing Everest as it is so steep - up to your room. There is a rope to hold onto and it is not very well lit up at night. You must lean back when walking down these steep steps as you could easily fall.
Also be aware that most of the showers overflow as the drainage does not work. The shower trays fill up and run over with water but the water misses the drainage overflow hole in the floor as the floors are not level. The water then overflows into the kitchen area.

Views superb. Accommodation fairly basic but very clean, maids come in every day to clean with fresh sheets and towels.
The staff at Veronica were fab, Alex, Justine, Ilsa, Katerina and Katelina - thank you for a wonderful time.
We considered the location perfect. 15-20 walk into Moraitika and 10 min walk to St John. Wonderful food and people.
Hopefully we will be back!

The first thing to hit you is the steep hill up to the apartments.
good pool and pool side facilities though.
Looks clean.
They’ve got a nice bar area too plus pool table. Thanks for the friendly welcome. but the rooms seem a little dated. the kitchen is a lot to be desired with little implements.
The bathroom had tiles loss on the floor, the toilet had a crack in it ,no ac only fans that you have to rent.
I must say that the staff in general are very helpful.
The Olympic rep was misleading with the truth about any of the trips she tries to sell you, and they are better trips and much cheaper down in town.

May 2005, Mr C R Hastings

First impressions:
(Note I had read 1 review prior to coming)
Wow, they weren’t lying about the steep hill up to the apartments.
Beautiful pool and pool side facilities though.
Looks clean.
They’ve got a nice bar area too.
(Later also discovered there was a small convenient shop (for your self catering needs), a pool table, a huge TV, very good food should you need it, and very friendly staff in operation here.)
As it was still only 5.00am when I saw this, I wondered whether it would be quiet, a very important asset for me.
I was taken up the steep hill, and my first impressions of the room:
Eek, thanks for the friendly welcome. Hmm, it seems a little dated. Wow, what a stunning view though from the balcony (right around the 'bay', and looking to mainland greece.)
Bed test: Oh, these'll do great.
Shower test: Well, here, there’s no holder on the wall for it, like in uk, and you rest it on the tap. It’s a 'splash and dash' system. Or, soap and rinse. But there is warm water, 24/7, and there doesn’t seem to be any problems.
Bathroom facilities are very clean, in brilliant white layout, and everything you need should be here. No hair dryer for those who need one.
Back in the main room, dated, yes, but only in style. If you are a materialist, you probably won’t appreciate quite as much as I did. It is, what I can say, just, fine. OK. Everything works, it is clean, it has a stunning view. (A hob, sink, kettle, pots, pans, cups, dishes, cutlery, waste bin. Mirror, bedside lamps, four walls and a ceiling.)
After I woke up and got out:
Yes, it is very quiet in the day, and night. Guests are either couples or families.
Overall:
Pro’s:
Beautiful view
Very friendly staff
Practical, and ok - good rooms.
Good 'entertainment' facilities for general purpose throughout the day.
There are no wasps, at least not when I went. The hotel down the road was swarming with them. So if you read the only other review that appears to be out there, do not worry. I think they’ve got it sorted.
Con's:
Not for the puffed out. If you are in a wheel chair, you will need new brakes fitted (before, and after you have been here). You only want to climb this hill twice a day maximum.
Something I didn’t mention. The bathroom has a plug inside the shower tray, and one outside, to catch any straggling drops. Problem? Pools of water collect outside, and the ground doesn’t slope towards the drain.
Extra advise for this hotel:
The hotel is a bit of a trek to the main resort Moraitika. Whether you are staying here or not, I recommend hiring a car, quad, or scooter, which in this order get cheaper (£8 for the latter), for a few days to see the beautiful landscape of Corfu, (and get some breeze around the armpits). But you will probably find it useful for getting into town. Taxi’s charge silly rates.
The resort is pretty good also, and the beach is fantastic. Sand all the way out for about half a mile. The beach is only 500m from the hotel, but as the other reviewer has said, it is 500metres of a sheer cliff face.
A very small 'resort', or place, is closer, if you turn left out of the hotel, with a good beach. This isn't far.
