5 / 10
Jun 2005, Mr JR

After reading the reviews, I too went in fear, not anticipation. We went to visit a family member working in Salou. We normally stay in 5 star or superior 4 stars when we go away, but booked this as a last minute thing without checking the reviews.
The minus side of this hotel is that it is near another where the entertainment is VERY noisy at times, it has poor to non-existent soundproofing and some of the clientele it attracts can’t enjoy themselves without making a lot of noise late into the night (and who clearly believe that their kids should have fun without any boundaries.) Our first night there was a party of people from Glasgow who left the next day and the hotel became immeasurably quieter when they had gone.
The rooms were clean (except under the bed) and the maid service was daily and good. The bathroom smelled a little bit and the air conditioning wasn’t on.
It would be quieter if you are on the side facing away from Salou. It is about a 20 minute walk from the town, but there are two nice quiet beaches close by down steps. You’d have access problems if you struggle with walking, but we found it very easy and we’re in our 50s. There is a very good bus service to town and it is cheap. Salou isn't the capital of culture, but is decent and clean. Cambrills down the cost is nice and Tarrggona worth a visit for the Roman remains.
The plus side. Other than the fruit juices (abysmal), the food is decent, very varied (sure they have chips available at every meal - their customers are mainly British, so imagine the moans if they didn’t), but they also had one or more of have pasta, rice , very nice salad vegetables etc. Three or four choices of main course each meal. How anyone could complain about the food offered for the money is beyond me. The packed lunch was much better than expected. The sausages they put out at hot dogs in the snacks were fine.
The service varied a lot depending on who you dealt with, but mainly was fine. The staff clearly have to put up with a lot of provocation from drunken and abusive guests, so it would be surprising if some of them did not have a rather jaundiced attitude. Service in the bar was very good and the free drinks OK - paying extra for better isn't a sensible option, as it isn't much better!
Everything (lifts, bath, TV, safe, Internet connection) worked.
As far as entertainment goes, we only sampled the quiz and the rep conducting it was useless (she thinks the currency of Portugal is the escudo!).
The main problem with this hotel is that some of the clientele ruin it for others - get the right ones there and you should have a great time. Get a bunch that think a good holiday is about being bladdered and annoying other people and you won’t.

May 2005, Mr M Kanias

After reading the ratings on the Internet, I was horrified on the ratings.
I wanted to cancel but after going it wasn’t the same as the write up, as they say, "don’t knock it to you tried it". The hotel was clean, rooms cleaned every day with clean towels, the food was good and I’m a fussy eater. The only downside was the low life’s that stayed there. (Scummy Brits abroad).
I felt sorry for the staff as they were working very hard and the last thing they wanted was all those chavs abusing the food and alcohol.
Next year I think I go with the Germans. At least they have more class !!!

May 2005, Mr R Lambeth

Returned to this hotel after having 2 brilliant weeks last year.
An instant bonus was to find that you can now get a coach from Reus Airport that drops you outside the hotel, price under 10 Euros return (£7) in comparison with over £40 return by Taxi.
Having learnt by my experience last year I took ear plugs, these are an essential item as the paper thin walls and the noise generated by people returning in the early hours.
I again thoroughly enjoyed my stay, the staff are polite and the rooms cleaned and towels changed daily.
There is such a wide choice of food that it is impossible not to eat well.
The only down side to the holiday was the moronic little chavs that shared the same brain cell who thought that they were cool who just had to have a fight, fortunately this was outside the hotel.
On the whole an excellent holiday, will definitely be going back again next year.

May 2005, Miss K A Nash

Although we had a little trouble checking in and had to wait about an hour for our rooms to be finished, I would say it was a holiday I will never forget.
The hotel itself was situated only 200 yards away from the beach and only a 30mins walk from the main town centre. But really every thing you needed was at the hotel. I can’t say much about the food, as it was the same things day and night.
But the entertainment was amazing not just for the kids but the adults too, well we went on a group booking and there were 19 of us all together and 15 / 19 said we would definitely go again.

Well where do I start!!!!!!!! We went...

May 2005, Mr SE Daniels

Well where do I start!!!!!!!!
We went with 2 other couples and 1 child.
The first day we arrived at the Airport and flagged down a taxi. The Taxi driver told us it would be 5 euros to Hotel Molinos Park Hotel. He charged us 35 euros each car on arrival to the hotel that is the about £24.00 roughly. However on the way back another taxi driver charged me and my partner 25Euro around £7.00 cheaper. (Please don’t make the same mistake as us).
Right then on arrival to the hotel we went to check in thinking we were sorted they turned around to us and said we are fully booked. We told the manager we booked the holiday the beginning of January and asked what we were going to do. He shrugged his shoulders!!!!! Not my problem he said.
However they found us someone after two hours. We had been given two residential appartments in each apartment we had one sofa bed in one room and two single beds in another you had to walk through a bedroom to get to it! This appartments smelt of damp and sewage. Luckily this was only for one night. However we met people there how had eight in one room! and stuck there for 3 nights. It was not nice. My partner who is pregnant didn’t sleep much at all that night. The walls were thin.
Right now on to the hotel:
Food: Everyday there was chips / fish / bread / snacks were the best proper sausages I would give the 4 out of 10 for effort. We eat out 9 times out of ten.
Room: Alot better than the appartments. However the walls are thin too. You here the party animals coming back at 3 / 4 in the morning singing. and children running down the corridors at 7 am. However the maids did come every day with clean towels. We also had a good view of the Sea and mountains. The older people moaned quite alot about the dust on the floors.
Location: Ok the hotel is located in Cap Salou which is 30 min walk from Salou its self. The walk along the beachfront is nice to take. It would cost about 5 - 6 Euros by car about £3.50 to £4.00 in the weekdays but more on a Sunday. However in Salou its self there are lots of shops/ bars/ and restaurants.
Markets on Sunday: There is a big market on a Sunday alot of English tourist have their bags slashed and things are stolen. Don’t Carry a bag if you do keep it in your site at all time.
Children: Not much for children to do really in the hotel they had a pool table for older children, a swimming pool, and that was about it.
Entertainment: Bingo, Quiz and one night they had a Mr Salou night. One night is far too much for anyone to take.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SAFE BECAUSE PURSES AND PHONES GO MISSING IF NOT SECURED PROBABLY.
I would not go again, but then I will go anywhere twice if I like it.

Molinos Park Hotel was to me a very...

May 2005, Ms D Lavery

Molinos Park Hotel was to me a very nice hotel, with staff were friendly and helpful in every way.
My room was basic but nice and was cleaned every day and clean towels replaced every morning. If I ran out of anything it was replaced. The food was ok, I always found something that I liked to eat, there was plenty to choose from, the only thing I didn’t like was there choice of sweets, they were basic and was more for the kids than the adults.
The pools were nice and they were cleaned everyday, and outside was power hosed everyday as well. Could do with more seats and tables in the lounge at night as you had to try and save a table to be sure of a seat at night. There was more entertainment on for the kids than the adults.
To me they could have done with having a separate lounge for the kids entertainment, that way they wouldn’t be in the lounge bar were everyone was drinking. The hotel was out of the way from Salou town but this I didn’t mind as there was regular bus runs every 20mins just outside the hotel and was only €1.30.In the town there was a lovely pub that done English food it is called Gabbers, real value for your money and good food.
Plenty of trips to take in as well. Despite what other people have wrote about this hotel I really enjoyed my stay there and I would go back, but I would go for longer next time as a week just wasn’t enough!!
It’s really what you make of your holiday that makes it a good one. I would like to thank all the staff at the Molinos Park Hotel for doing such a good job especially the bar staff as they work really hard to keep everyone happy. x

We returned home yesterday from this...
1 / 10
May 2005, Mrs Katie Wadsworth

We returned home yesterday from this hotel and I have never seen such a dirty, disgusting, filthy place.
We like most people read these reviews before we went there and we just thought that people were exaggerating but truthfully they were not. At the moment I am battling with the travel agents to get my money back. We were told that it was in Salou but it wasn’t at all it was in cap Salou that was about 5 miles away from the town centre. It was supposed to be a family resort that was 5 minutes away from all the shops, it wasn’t at all it had 2 supermarkets and that was it.
The hotel itself was horrible when we arrived in our room it had someone else’s hairs all round the shower and the bath, there was glass lying on the floor of the room and a cigarette butt on the floor of the bathroom, the toilet was blocked and we had no clean towels.
When we complained to the management he told us that the cleaner couldn’t do everything all the time. The food was discussing and not cooked properly. We went to stay at an all-inclusive hotel and paid out money everyday to eat out as we had our five-year-old daughter up for 2 nights in a row with food poisoning.
When we complained to the hotel the assistant manager responded with if you don’t like it move to another hotel as I have more things to worry about than your child being ill. The children’s swimming pool had pieces of broken glass in the bottom of the pool. There was a fight in the bar every night of the two weeks that we were there, so it was not a place to take a child.
We were told that we would have a double bed and a single bed. We all had single beds that were pushed together. There should of been air conditioning in the rooms, but they would not switch them on as they only have them on in June, July and august. The bar man had black eyes.
The free kids ice-cream was a joke it should have been free from 10am until 6am but for four of those hours while the snack bar was shut you could not get any. We have come home absolutely fed up regretted ever going. We are now going to take our five year old daughter away some where else this year to try to make up for it as she had a really rotten time.
I will never go back there in my lifetime and if I get my way I will have this hotel shut down completely and if it’s not already it should be on Britain’s holidays from hell.

Just got home last night. What a...

Apr 2005, Mr S Hukin

Just got home last night. What a relief. Luckily we only booked for 5 nights.
Myself and my wife arrived on a Friday evening at about 21:30 and the place was full of drunken adults and screaming kids. I had thought that as it was term time there wouldn’t be many children. WRONG.
All day and all night adults were high on alcohol and children were high on fizzy drink. Our room was in a great position top floor at the very end of the corridor. But it stunk.
We went down to the bar but bingo was being played. The bingo caller was screaming through a microphone, the noise was unbearable. We had to drink our drinks outside the front doors as this was the quietest place we could find.
We decided that we would spend as little time as possible in the hotel. The fried breakfast looked inedible, it might have been very nice but I will never know. All in all quite an experience.
Our days were spent in Salou, great for the beach, restaurants and bars. There is a bus service every 1/2 hr from outside the hotel 1 euro 30 single fare. I recommend evening drinks at the Smugglers Inn just around the corner. Great food and drinks that taste good and friendly staff and NO BINGO.
If you are planning to go trust me it’s not pleasant. The atmosphere can be quite intimidating.

The food was the worst I’d ever had...

Apr 2005, Mr P. Wilkins

The food was the worst I’d ever had in my life. Fights every night drunks everywhere smoke filled bar. This holiday is not for kids, we could not wait to get out of there. All five beds where lined up in a row in 1 room. Everybody said the same, get us out of here. So we had a week of fights, 60 fags a day and I don’t smoke, bad food, swearing, drunks, people with black eyes cuts etc, police in most nights to sort things out. Never again

Have just returned from the worst...
1 / 10
Apr 2005, Mrs Barnes

Have just returned from the worst hotel I have ever been to.
The Molinos park!! Food is terrible cold, dry and boring, I tried the vegetable soup at lunchtime, which had bits of that mornings fried eggs floating in it. All leftovers from day/meal before. Chips, dry chicken pasta and tomato sauce, and occasionally lamb!
Entertainment dreadful, reps shouting "SHUT UP" to you at the tops of their voices with a microphone so they can call the bingo numbers out, one tiny bar/club room way too small for all the people staying at Molinos, Tiny square shaped pool that you can count the number of sunbeds on one hand! Music you can hear throughout the hotel till 3ish every morning, several people with black eyes walking around through out the week as so many fights had broken out.
Definitely not a place for children as there is nothing for adults to do but drink yourself stupid!! never mind the kids. Just grateful that I didn’t subject my kids to this as luckily they didn’t come, otherwise I think I would have got a flight home! Everyone we spoke to that week was miserable and couldn’t wait to leave! good 30 min walk to Salou, with cap Salou where hotel is situated having only 3 bars a supermarket,1 souvenir shop and 2 restaurants
Towards the end husband and I were counting the hours to get home, so pleased we are out of that hellhole!

Within the first few minutes of...

Apr 2005, Mr A Johnstone

Within the first few minutes of entering our room, we found that boiling water was coming through both pipes, there was no cold water. A man was sent up to see to it, he also had to unblock the waste system in the room and the smell was very very bad. When he had finished, the water problem was not resolved, it is not normal for a toilet cistern to get red hot when the toilet is flushed.
We went to reception and complained that the water was still the same and the stench was unbearable, they gave us another room, but the water problem must of been throughout the hotel as we experienced the same problem in the next room, which was on another floor.
There was no chance of having an early night in bed because you had no choice but to endure the noise from the entertainment, which could be heard very loudly no matter which part of the hotel you stayed in.
Its certainly not a place to take your children, they are most likely to end up being in the middle of brawling drunks, there were at least 3 fights in the week that we stayed, and more were reported by other guests.
The photos of the hotel do not show the other hotels next to them, they could do with being updated to show the other hotels that have been built nearby, this is evident on the postcards at the reception, they cost half a euro each and they must be a few years old.
I would really like to know how the stars are awarded to these hotels, it does not deserve the 3 stars that is awarded to it.
Unless you go away to get blind drunk, start fights and annoy other guests while they are trying to sleep or enjoy themselves the way decent holidaymakers do, then this is not the hotel for you!

Stayed in Molinos Park April 2005...

Apr 2005, Not Specified

Stayed in Molinos Park April 2005 with children aged 16, 7, 6, & 2. Hotel staff very friendly and food good.
Rooms very noisy - no soundproofing along corridors so there was a lot of racket from 11pm - 2 pm as guests returned drunk to their rooms. Overall the guests were the problem. The entertainment left much to be desired unless you were content to play bingo or take part in the quiz (my 6 year old could have answered many questions).
The Miss Salou competition would have been better named Miss Slapper, and the male guest judges were judging on who would be easiest to get into bed. That should give you an indication as to the type of guest who stays here. Not much for the kids to do - pool not that big for size of hotel and only one bar in whole of hotel so gets overrun with people (including all the kids) at night. Escape to Port Aventura is your best bet - this was the highlight. Centre of Salou 40min walk away.
As a cheap last minute break it was fine but we would have been mighty disappointed if we had paid more than the £160pp that we did.
