Simple accomodation but clean and friendly hotel
8 / 10
Sep 2011, sunseeker2011

Partner and I stayed for a week at the Yiannis Hotel Apartments, Ipsos at the start of September 2011.
Hotel is a short walk (5 mins downhill and maybe a bit longer uphill!) from main Ipsos strip which has lots of good quality places to eat and drink and nice shingle beach.
Accomodation is basic which we expected (our room was a ground floor with twin beds, fitted unit including wardrobe and compact fridge freezer and bathroom with shower over bath, WC and sink) however was clean with fresh towels and bedding every two days. We had no hair-drier in room but we had no need for this as was still 30 degrees outside! Air-con is 4 Euros per day (pay on arrival at desk) and was worth every penny during our stay. Deposit boxes are also available in hotel lobby. Wall mounted tv in room showed some movies in English at night but as we were out most of the time not an issue.
Accomodation was booked on a B&B basis so no self-catering facilities in room - we headed down the hill to Ipsos for dinner (and sometimes lunch). Breakfasts at the hotel were self service cereals/bread/cheese etc.
September seemed to be a quieter month generally in the local area i.e. not that many children / mainly couples so good time to go to avoid the peak summer crowds. Some people there at same time as us had been before so seems to be popular with British tourists.
The bar and pool area really were fantastic - clean and well maintained with plenty of sun-loungers and parasols. Bar area serves food all day and is good value and also does drinks/ice lollies etc. Pool tables (x2) and ping pong table in covered area also available.
Some of the other reviews mention noise - I would agree that noise does travel between the rooms particularly when people are out on the balconies/outside room doors and you do hear loud talking etc so would advise earplugs if you are sensitive to this!....other half slept through everything where I was woken a few times during the week.
Overall we had a good break and hotel staff were friendly and helpful (hotel is family run) throughout our stay and the hotel atmosphere was very relaxed.

1st day...Flooded bathroom...changed room....
2nd day...noisey rude Italians turned up, wasnt told that this year was split with Olympic and Club 18-30...then on it was 10 sleepless nights...the management didnt want to do a thing about it....would not stay there again....the bar kept running out of stuff and the rooms were dirty...iv seen cleaner toilets....Breakfast was just disgusting, full english, they dont know what that is...

  • Advice: Clean the apartments more.

I used this site to check out the Yiannis hotel before I booked my holiday and found it very useful. The hotel was as expected for 2 star, basic rooms but with all the facilities needed to sleep, wash and change - we even had a TV but it only had 1 english channel. The balcony was sufficient to sit out on with lovely views of the sea and mountains being in an elevated position. The staff were lovely and the best part of the hotel was the pool and bar area, it was kept very clean and was attractive with lovely trees lining the pool area. Food at the hotel was slightly cheaper than on the strip and tasted good. The Greek night was very entertaining and the BBQ meal that was included in the price was 12 euros and was very tasty and a large meal. I would say the childrens portion is sufficient for a woman to eat. We went in the first week of September and although there were plenty of tourists it wasnt busy in the bars at night, people tended to go to the strip to eat in the evening and there was a good variety of restaurants. One of the locals told me August was the busiest month as a lot of Italians come over but she also said it was noisy with all the mopeds and quad bikes that they hire and advised me to avoid it! I suppose if you a looking for a busy nightlife then August might be better for you. Ipsps is very pretty with a shingle beach which was always busy with bathers. If you go on the mini day cruise up the north coast which includes swimming in the caves and a BBQ, be warned that the beach you stop at to eat is has bigger pepples than Ipsos and is full of wasps - we couldnt eat our food as they swarmed around our plates. However the Greeks and Italians ate theirs as I think they are used to the wasps and ignored them. Overall it was alovely holiday and I would go again.

We found the proprietors very friendly and helpful. Yes the rooms are simple but ours were clean and served it's purpose. You cannot blame the owners if other British guests are noisy, ignorant and cannot control their smoking and drinking habits. The Yiannis family work very hard and every Tuesday they put on free food and dancing. The apartments are about 10 minutes from the beach but it can be hard work walking up the hill to the old town.

Value for money

On arrival there was a problem with our room. However by lunch time the next day it was all sorted out.
The Rep Jo and Hotel Receptionists Cheryl and Tracy were superb. George behind the bar was fun and had a good vocabulary of English.
Meals at the bar were excellent value for money with a 3 course plus wine for 10 euros, the pool was one of the warmest I have been in and the view of the mountains from here was beautiful.
Depending which appts you are in the cockerel chorus was annoying for the first couple of days but then you got use to it.
Very friendly and family orientated hotel where all the staff were very helpful.

Value for the money.
Note if you are B&B there are no facilities in your rooms.

I have mixed views on our holiday to Ipsos.
The hotel is lovely, with beautiful views, well room 103 has. The apartment was a fair size, the down sides was the bathroom as it was difficult to tell if there was a leak from the shower or the toilet, the smell was not pleasant and the floor remained wet urrrh. The other comment was the rooms were that the although the bins were emptied daily (apart from Sundays) the floors were not cleaned, it would been nice to have a broom so least u could do it yourself, especially when you have children. Sheets and towels were not changed on a regular basis.
The pool area was lovely and clean, beware the chlorine is strong and with leave yellow marks on your clothing. The Bar area was maintained to a high standard. Billy, George and Theo are great... being observant of prices and change received. The receptionist staff were great and very helpful.
I would recommend the hotel more for couples than young families. Did meet some wonderful people out there, that I will be keeping in touch with.
Ipsos it’s self, I would say is great if you like going home from home (with good weather) as a lot of taverns are run by English people. As I would have preferred to of been able to experience a little culture. Witness a fatality whilst there of two English lads on Mopeds, think twice before hiring one.

We had high expectations of Yiannis apartments bearing in mind the reviews on this site. The location was good for a family, nice and quiet. The pool was excellent but some of the people around it quite parochial.I do realise the owners cannot select their guests so obviously this is not their fault. We were left with a nesty taste in our mouths however after being told that air conditioning is 5 euros a day, then being charged 10 euros a day because we had a 2 room apartment. We were then reprimanded for leaving it on through the day. The loo roll bins were not emptied regularly and the flies in our bathroom were appalling. The beds and towels were not changed till we had been there 10 days. The kitchen bin wasn't emptied unless we did it ourselves.I have been visiting Greece for 23 years now so I am used to quite basic accomodation, but I have to say their kitchen facilities were the worsewe have ever had. On a final note, my family and I had to buy airbeds to sleep on because the matresses and pillows were ancient and really lumpy and uncomfortable to sleep on. I have been home 5 days and I am still on pain killers for my back. This is the third time we have stayed in Kefalos and as usual the resort itself was lovely. On this occasion we discovered Marias Bar, which has cheap drinks and a good atmosphere.

We have just got back from Sidari and we stayed at the Yiannis 1 Apartments. We had an idea the accomodation would be pretty basic and it was very basic, the beds weren't the best, and the shower would take ages for hot water to come through and water would get everywhere. However the pool area and bar was very nice and clean, and our apartment was cleaned regularly during our stay. What we weren't warned about were the mosquitoes, me and my boyfriend got bitten to bits and nothing we used stopped them, so its worth taking some stuff with you if you do suffer from insect bites. The apartments weren't too far away from the centre of Sidari, only a ten minute or so walk, and only five minutes from the beach. I would recommend the Yiannis apartments as long as you are prepared to stay basic, and if you are only using the apartments as a base.

Got back from Yiannis Apartments last month and already looking to spend some more time there. It was far enough from the bars and tavernas not to be disturbed but not too far to walk. But saying that you didnt really need to go any further than your own bar for delicious food and good company. Telli and Daniel were very helpful if stuck with anything. Rooms were very well equipped with four of everything even if only two in the room. Would highly recommend this place for all ages.

My boyfriend and I went on our first holiday together in June this year to Ipsos, Corfu.
The Yiannis Hotel and Apartments were without a doubt the BEST experience of a holiday. The staff make the hotel welcoming, and I felt incredibly at home and very safe. PLUS George's cocktails were yummy.
The other people staying there were lovely too, we met some nice people. Most however were middle aged or above, but all lovely and would say hello.
My only critisim about the hotel was the Breakfast. I would not recommend you stay B&B as the breakfast is not worth the extra cost. (The fry up in the pool bar is much nicer!!)
We found the hill down to the main strip tough on the way back up, BUT who doesn't need a little bit of exercise on their holiday and its usually quite amusing after a few drinks. I especially liked the donkey that greeted us at the bottom of the hill everyday.
The main strip I found to be really dead...and clearly affected by the recession, lack of tourists etc, but the resteraunt PHEVOS is definately worth a visit, the staff are lovely and will recommend what is good to eat. We ate 3 nights there.
We also took a trip to Paxos with Olympic the tour company. Whilst it was an early start, and a very long day, it was definately worth it...and I think quite a reasonable price.Paxos is THE most beautiful place, and whilst the beaches are still shingle they are small and secluded, you'll definatley run into the locals and their daily swimming/chatting sessions!!
We never wanted to leave Corfu and Ipsos was lovely...mainly due to the amazing hotel staff, amazing views, lovely weather and good company.
