Having just returned from Corfu, staying in the Magna Grecia I thought I'd give my opinion. I'll start with the good points: 1) The hotel was very clean. Our room was cleaned everyday and our towels changed daily. 2) None of the drinks were watered down and the wine was... more

Nice hotel, very clean. Dassia is also a lovely resort. Brits probbaly made up about 10% of guests at the Magna Grecia and Dassia as a whole, the majority being Italian and German. This wasn't an issue for us and made a nice change from most places but if you expect it to... more

The Hotel is very nice although slightly run down - definitely not 4*. The staff are excellent, very friendly, good service. Our argument was with the All Inclusive issue. There are 2 pools; a large, very nice pool with big umbrellas which is for the "paying" guests, and... more

enjoyed our stay
i was a bit worried about this hotel after reading reviews. we have 4 children aged from 11-4 we paid for 2 rooms of 3 but when we got there they gave us 1 room and didnt know how many beds were in it, abit worried we went upstairs but it had 6 beds although it was only a room for 4 . bit squased but better than 2 rooms i thought. we had a lovely pool view. The food is really good for about 5 days but then it gets a bit repetative and boring. only alllowed toasties for sncks no ice cream or cakes etc. and the coke is very syrupie in the all inclusive bar. lemonade better. entertainment is provided but the same people are on 3 nights ina row singing the same songs in foreign languages cant understand a word of it. not really a child hotel more for adults. but we did enjoy our stay.
negative...
This accomodation is not 4*, but 3*... the breakfast is very easy... lunch and dinner in 7 days is always the same... the rooms is not cleary every day... find another solution...
Give it a miss
I have never stayed in a worse hotel room in my life, the room was extremely damp, the bedcovers were damp, our cloths in the wardrobes became damp, the drawers in the furniture would not open due to damp yet we were told it was condensation. all the rooms down below pool level were the same, we were in room 105, our friends in 104 and a couple we became friendly with in room 107. I would advise everyone to give it a miss or at least ensure they get a room above pool level
Fantastic view but...
My wife son and and I booked a 4 star all inclusive, allocation on arrival holiday in Corfu. We ended up at Magna Graecia. It however did say 4 star on the very old sign outside. I think that's was the only reference to 4 star. Top floor room for 3 people was tired, clean and was fine for a week. The view of the surrounding hills and sea was stunning to say the least - the was the lasting memory of this place. Location was pretty central to Dassia, easy walking distance to the beach and a short bus ride to Corfu Town. The all inclusive bit did not cover the air conditioning which did not work - the very helpful and friendly hotel reception staff gave us a fan which helped in the 40 celcius heatwave. For some reason our room never cooled down - it might have been the three chimney's from the kitchen behind the wall that kept the room at least 10 degrees higher than normal. A hand held shower apparently was the norm The hotel being packed with very noisey (I don't think they can talk SHOUTING comes natural) holidaymakers from Italy made you feel at home - Scicily that is! Not really at problem. We like to enjoy an evening meal like and some wine like anyone else. The breakfast and lunch menu was just about average - remember this was supposed to be 4 star. The service, presentation and standard of evening meal was very poor and choice was just as limited. I like seafood, crab, shrimps, fish, unfortunately nothing was on offer. Two very overworked table staff for 210 guests will enevitably cause a wee bit of a delay and hassle for everyone. We did point this out to the Olympic rep who duly told us that the sign outside did say 4 Star! He obviously has only known this hotel. Excluded from "All Inclusive" cocktails (half price happy hour 18.00-20.00 was offered). Snacks other than a cheese & ham toasty. Drinks from the main bar. All Inclusive bar was like a makeshift bar well away from main bar that kept running out of soft drinks. Like the restaurant one friendly barman working. Cleaning tables and glass cleaning were a problem due to staffing, a common theme in this hotel. The old design and condition of the hotel was tired but it did have some charm. Reception and bar staff were very friendly. The resaurant staff (being overworked) did not have the time to be as helpful. Can do better: Food - a good chef, more waiting staff and of course air conditioning is a must at 40 degrees. The location, views and staff were the only redeeming feature of Magna Graecia. They will need to work alot harder to get back to their claim of 4 star rating. K Glasgow
We loved it!
We were a bit apprehensive on arriving to this hotel after reading the many negative reviews. However we were extremely surprised on arrival to find a beautiful hotel set upon a hillside with an amazing view overlooking the ocean. The check in staff were very friendly and helpful, they did not complain once as we requested to change rooms(not because there was anything we did not like but because the bookings got mixed up as we had requested a double bed,not two singles). The bar staff were also very friendly and happy to serve you. They spoke good english, and even taught us a few greek words!! Our room was lovely, medium size. Very authentic greek style so it was quite basic, although there was nothing to complain about!! the balcony was quite spacious with enough room so relax and enjoy yourself! It was cleaned every day and fresh towels left, and again the maids were also very polite and smiling! The food was a buffet every breakfast lunch and dinner, all you can eat(very pleasing to my other half!!!) We had no complaints about the food whatsoever. It was always warm and freshly cooked and the main dinner meals were always different. The pool was very tidy with plenty of sun loungers to go around. The bar beside the pool was also very nice! Overall we had a really great time at this hotel and would definitely return again! I think anyone who dislikes this hotel or has a problem with it are a bit too snobby!
Dont Go
I booked a weeks holiday along with my friend and her teenage daughter. We went unallocated to a 4*+ AI hotel and landed up with this awful hotel. I am sorry but I dont have many good things to say. The first room we were given was very old and an accident waiting to happen. The second room was a little better but when having a shower the water ran out under the bathroom door into the bedroom - making the floors very slippy. The patios/balcanies/pools were very run down with concrete falling out. The paint from the pool floor stained your feet blue. There was so much rubbish in the pool at times you didnt want to use it. The restaurant was ok but we didnt bother with breakfast because everything was cold and uncooked. Lunch and dinner were better. The staff were of very little help and some down right rude. No one ever smiled ! The all inclusive is a laugh - you are treated like second class guests. The nicer areas were reserved for other guests - of which there werent many ! The AI bar closed dead on 11pm so if you wanted further drinks you had to pay in the other bar. After a couple of nights the barman decided to charge extra for the same drinks - but there was no one to complain to. We had to push for someone to clear up broken glass and then got abused by them next night for asking ! There isnt much going on around the hotel within walking distance. The good points - maid service pretty good -no fighting for sunbeds- little restaurant just outside hotel called `la cassa`- lovely - well worth a visit. Sorry this sounds so bad - but it was - we paid £1600 for 3 of us- and were very dissapointed. I wouldnt reccommend it for anyone.
An experience
I just arrived back from Corfu today. The hotel itself lived up to many expectations, but also disappointed. The staff: They are mostly friendly with the odd exception. But don't expect them to go out of their way to do something for you, because they won't. For example in the middle of the night we went to reception and asked for some water, having been told it was included, the fuss the receptionist made was unreal... The location: The area itself was very nice, although the local bars and 'clubs' - if you call Tataya a club even though it was in fact a bar, were full of older people, much older - if I were coming back in 30 years, this might be the resort of choice. The hotel itself has a mixture of ages and certainly the atmosphere was nice and relaxed and not too noisy. My group: I went in an all boys group, the 4 of us were looking for a great lads holiday, we got away with skinning dipping in the pool at 4am one morning although got caught by the receptionist another night. We went clubbing ever night - got very drunk - meant plenty of great girls and had a fantastic time. The rooms: We certainly weren't given the best rooms, but the cleaners cleaned and tidied every day and were very pleasant people. The rooms themselves weren't too bad, although maintenance clearly was not the top priority, one corner of our balcony (in the ceiling) had moulded away. The food: A fair bit of variety, but the same almost every day - without exception. Not what we were expecting. The all-inclusive deal: Well you can only pick up your all-inclusive drinks at certain bars depending on what time it is - and the bar for all-inclusive closes at 11pm. Also there are no 'snacks' throughout the day - just toasties with ham and cheese. The pools: Two nice pools but bring your own towels as none are provided unless you want to use your bath towel at the pool. The sea: A 2-3 minute walk, a pebble beach, but still lovely - watersports on the beach are expensive - 30 euros for 15 minutes of monoskiing. The clubs in Corfu: go to Guvia if you are aged 17-22 or to Ipsos if you are a little older. We went to Cassiopi at the top of the island, its a half hour taxi away and the girls were aged 12-15 on average. We never tried Corfu Town because we got such mixed opinions of it - but Guvia is excellent (we were 17) and very cheap. Go to Whispers to start (a cool bar) then Status for amazing clubbing. Overall experience: Wherever you go in Corfu, you will have an amazing time, I would actually go back to Magna Graecia because despite the setbacks the positives far outweighed the negatives. And one more warning, the use of the safe costs 17 euros + 10 deposit. Also meal times are: Breakfast: 7-10 Lunch: 1-2 Dinner: 7-9
fab fab fab

Unhelpfull staff in this drab run down hotel
booked this awfull honeymoon through lurgan travel, libra holidays being the tour operator, Dont get me started on LIBRA HOLIDAYS OR LURGAN TRAVEL AS THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT AT ALL THEY CLAIM TO BE. arrived at the hotel at 3am and were greeted at reception, we asked for a drink of water as we had been travelling all day to reach the location, we were told to go walk down to the shop approx 1/4 mile down the road, bear in mind this is a honeymoon, we walked about 1 mile with every where being closed, came back to the hotel where they they then produced 2 bottles of water!!!!!!!!!! got booked in and went up to our room, we entered it and it had 2 single beds in it and the most drab dirty appearance, we went back down to reception to say what they already knew "we were on honeymoon and demand a double bed at least" were we were told they were fully booked and maybe sort it out in the morning, we went back up to the room to sleep as we were so tired from travelling, not that we slept as there were all sorts flying and buzzing round the room, next morning we went back down to sort out the rooms, the staff told us to push the 2 beds together to make a double bed, we demanded a double room or we were leaving, so eventually we got one, same drab decor but we put up with it to stop it ruining our time away, this hotel summed up is not a good one for anyone expecting pleasant staff, good decor, sunbeds, in fact anything you would expect for a four star hotel. I would rate this hotel more like a 2 star hotel, and would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy, I would recommend staying in a caravan before going anywere near this hote.......... building
magna graecia Hotel
If you go please note that the gym has changed site, it is now by the small pool by the apartment complex. you want to have a sauna or jacussi you have to pre book this at reception, you cannot just use it and also the saunas where all full up with other equipment when i went at the begining of July, and no one seems to use it as it was inconveneient for the staff. rooms need to be re decorated very dark in most of them, had 2 rooms the one for my daugters was by the pool but had a large tree outside so did not have any light, so had them moved. drinks expensive so in the end up graded to all inclusive for 100 euros each, when you added it up kepts us in drinks. the snack bar was a laugh all you could really get from them was toasted ham and cheese sandwiches and chips no menu on show so you had to ask. lovely locating though and rooms were cleaned every day. pool was clean and there was enough loungers to use ,reception staff very nice . went on a boat trip (georges) 20 eaurs each left at 10.30 and came back at 5.30 well worth it travelled to a beach that you cant get to by any other means, then to a village further up and onto the caves, at the beach you had a swim and then a lovely lunch with wine etc and at the caves you could swim into the caves(you can stand up there) and swim out the other side , we went down to the beach and booked it , the girl is a a table by the sea taking booking
