Pro's and Con's, but a Great Holiday overall

Aug 2011, Dyster

I read some bad reviews before we left, and slightly put off, I didn't have very high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised when we got there. The room was clean and neat and was cleaned every other day. It had an en-suite bathroom with a tub, which was a little bit small. We had a nice view of the pool from the balcony. We had to pay an extra 50 euros for air conditioning, but it was definitely worth it. We had a few problems with the toilet and a/c, but they were sorted out immediately. The lift broke down in the new block once or twice (it was probably our fault due to too much weight) but the helpful and kind staff advised us to use the other lift, which was much better. The food was good, but there could have been a bit more variety. There were chips, rice, pasta, veg, pies, omelettes, quiche and meat. I especially enjoyed the pies. For breakfast there were eggs, bacon, sausages, ham, toast, bread, olives, cheese and orange juice. The chef, Derek was nice, and was one to remind you about your p's & q's. At the poolside bar there was a variety of drinks, burgers, chips, toasties, biscuits and ice-cream(for children). The pool was clean and constantly filtered. You could see the bottom clearly, even at the deep end, which was 2.3 metres. It was refilled every night. Some of the sun loungers needed replacement, as my sisters swimsuit got torn by one of them. Entertainment was okay, VG Mania hosted a pool party every other night. There was a live musician, karaoke, bingo and there was a tv room where we watched football and the news(in greek). The hotel was on abit of a hill. but it was only steep for about 10 metres. the beach was a shingle beach and was 10-15 minutes away. The water was quite warm and very clean. Don't be put off by bad reviews, some people could find fault in an angel. Holiday heaven!

I took my daughter and her friend there for her 18th birthday WHAT A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!! We endured two nights of hell at the hands of this hotel. The staff did not seem interested in what we had to say, the shower head was held up by a luggage tag there was no curtain and the sheets were so worn they were see through. We refused to change out of our clothes that we traveled in because we felt cleaner than washing and changing in such a filthy environment with no hot water. As for the outside appearance there were wasps all around the bins and in the swimming pool, there was broken glass near the outdoor bar and this was not attended to whilst we were there. Finally we ended up booking into another hotel because we could not stand it another day. This is the worst hotel i have ever stayed in a bomb site would be more adequate

I think that all of the people who say that the hotel is terrible have set unrealistic standards for the hotel to live up to.
When we first got to the hotel we decided to upgrade rooms so that we had air conditioning due to the heat. the staff are very friendly, however occasionally they may come across as being a bit rude, but i think that this is because English isn't their first language and sometimes they make mistakes.
The food is perfectly edible and very nice, it is simple and the kitchen staff are clearly on a low budget but they use their imagination to make very nice food, the chefs name is Derek who is Scottish and very nice. the staff are all very friendly and nice to be around.
The Facilities are basic but they are kept clean and usable, the entertainment in the evening is light hearted and very enjoyable.
If you go there expecting 5* quality then you will be disappointed of course, but you get what you pay for. I thought that it was a very good deal and myself and my friends all had a really good time.

well! what can I say? we have just got home from a weeks stay at the Telemachos, I really dont see what all the bad reports are about! I do realise we were there during October when the hotel is not so busy but even so there were a good few guests there. I have to say I am embarrassed to be British!! I have never heard such moaning and complaining in my life, if you expect to be treated with respect then treat others with respect, dont be so rude and obnoxious. We did upgrade to a room with aircon, we were not in the new part though because my husband asked if they had a room with a seaview, our room was lovely, and contrary to what is said in 90% of these reviews our towels were changed 3 times during the week and our sheets were changed twice, which, is more than we change our bed linen at home. The food was acceptable and chef was a really nice guy and did a good job with what he had. The owner and his wife (Valery) were very friendly and always had a smile for us, but we were always friendly and polite to them... We have never stayed at a 2* hotel before always been to 4 and 5 star , the holiday was a very good deal, so what do you people expect?? We found all the staff friendly except one who seemed to resent the British, but after hearing and seeing how they behaved I could fully understand his attitude. Ok the hotel is a little tired, but when you consider how very badly hit the Greek economy has been hit and how many businesses have closed there, the owners are just doing what they can with what little they have. I agree the cleaning staff could do with some training in health and hygene and the owners could do with a good team to work with them but on the whole we enjoyed our holiday and we met some very lovely people. Only one or two didnt stop moaning and whinging all week in fact they were meeting new arrivals at the door and telling them they were mad to be there,,,, is this fair?? NO!!!!

What a dump! On arrival we were asked if we wanted to pay 50euro to upgrade to one of their 4 star rooms, which we did. Well.... I would have hated to see what their 2.5 star rooms were like! Our '4 star' room was dirty, the sheets were grubby, the shower had no head on it, and there was no shower curtain. The pool was murky and the general appearance of the rest of the hotel was run down and not taken care of. There is rubbish all around the pool area which nobody cleans up, the pool bar is dirty and smelly, which attracted the islands population of wasps! As for the staff.... well the large butch german lady was extremely rude, they wasnt interested in helping you, talking to you or even taking any interest in complaints. I had to ask everyday for a shower curtain, which we finally got 2 days before we were due to go home. DONT GO TO THIS HOTEL... EVER!!!! We stayed bed and breakfast, took one look at what they had on offer, and never went back into their 'restaurant'... This place needs shutting down. I didnt take much notice of all the bad reviews before I went and thought it would be alright... How VERY WRONG i was, the reviews are 100% correct... DONT GO TO THIS HOTEL!!!!!

Me and my girlfriend (both 19) have just come back from a week in Dassia. We booked the hotel simply because it was cheap and we wanted to get away and enjoy the sun. We booked the Telemachos without reading any reviews at first. We then found out that 9/10 reviews had bad things written about the hotel and we slowly regretted booking the hotel. Once arriving, we wondered what all the fuss was about. We did pay the 50 euros to upgrade as suggested in many reviews and found the room very clean and was cool with the air conditioning. The food was lovely, the drink was just your standard local alcohol (which is what we expected) and the staff were lovely. The pool was clean and the hotel was not busy so we had it to ourself a lot of the time. We had a choice of two beaches which were both a 10 minute walk away, they were both lovely, peaceful and a great choice of bars and restaurants, there is one bar that stays open til 4am which suited us! I would certaintly recommend this hotel and ignore the bad reports. Although the majority of the bad reviews are from June - August when it would be busy, we have just got back (September) and found it quiet and very enjoyable!

We read all the reviews before we went and was a bit scared but thought what the h*** we can just use it as a base and have agood time. My Husband and I was travelling with my two children who are 6 and 3.

We though it was a good idea to ring in advance to get room conditioning as we felt this could ruin our hol if we were unable to sleep- so we spoke to Valerie over the phone who promised us a goood size family room in the new block with air conditioning...
Upon arriving at the hotel at 6am in the morning it was apparent that she had forgot to do this as she starting to argue in German with her waist of a space husband. We got Air cond paid 50 Euros and went to the room it seemed clean and okay.
That night however it was obvious the air con was not working as it was hotter in the room than on the balcony... after numerous visits to reception I was told that I was not working it properley! an engineer would be up! and lots of BLah Blah!!.
On the third evening kids were narky I was crying, daughter calapsed at entrance to restaurant saying not this cafe again!!! We were at the beach all day so didnt use the all inclusive all the time but son went to get ice-cream at 5pm to be told they had stopped serving them!
Husband went back to reception and explained that an engineer had supposed to have fixed the air con but it wasnt working- the said recptionist who had winessed daughter breakdown and mine just moved us like that to another one. The new room which was the floor above the original one we were in and it was lovely the air con worked, matresses had no holes in them the bathroom was clean- they were ants in the bathroom but we didnt care we could all breath laugh and sleep. The next day we were so much happier as a family.
Although we were all inclusive we ate only 2 dinners and had one breakfast at the hotel. Food was very basic but filled you up- the kids who normally love pasta could'nt stand it.
The pool bar staff sometimes made you feel like second class citizens for asking for a drink like you were getting it for nothing. We paid an extra £200 for the week for all inclusive so not worth it the food in Dassia is lovely and caters for everyone and wasnt expensive family of for could have a good meal and drink for 30 Euros.
Dassia itself is not really suitable for young kids we entertained the kids as much as possible but they were no kids discos or any street entertainers- but beach was lovely for them.
There were also guests in the hotel that were rude to staff and those who drank all day around the pool- I'm not sure how they managed to get drunk though as everything tasted watered down to me.
The rep seemed a nervous wreck she realy had a pain on getting this hotel.
Oh and the park is not safe to leave kids unsupervised.
All in all the hotel is badly managed you feel like you should be grateful for whatever you get. There is no way I would go again ever...I could go on writing stories about this hotel all day. Our holiday wasnt bad we had a good time but the atmosphere the hotel projects leave you with a bad feeling I cant pinpoint what it is as I have stayed in worst accommadation before. Its a combination of lack of customer service, bad tour operator, shamefully rude brits, horrible food and a bit of down trodden Dassia.
I'm sorry I have never come back from an holiday and felt so deflated by it, it was hard work! We went to Whitby the week after though and had a blast!!!

When we arrived we were asked too pay 50euro's if we wanted an air conditioned room, we took up on this offer which was a good option in our opinion as the rooms were cool for night time and didn't suffer from the heat. however, you could not leave the air con on during the day as the hotel key (which you only get one key per room) controlled the whole of the electicity in your room. The pool was lovely and cleaned everynight! which is a bonus! however, staff were rude and begrudged giving you anything. the all inclusive was a complete JOKE! it would of been cheaper too eat out everynight because you DO NOT get what you paid for!
food was repetitive and very basic, chips, rice, pasta salad and bread most lunch and evening meals.
breakfast was revolting! all water was tapped which many people were not happy about and orange juice was rank! no fresh fruit was available apart from watermelon 2nights for a pudding! you only got a one option pudding which again was very standard and not very nice!
it states that the snacks are hot dogs, ice cream, biscuits, pizza, toasties and sandwhiches, well...ice creams are only available for children! and they could only go up and ask for themselves once! out of all the coffee's i drunk i got one biscuit which was stale and soft! the snacks stopped at 6 when they were meant too finish at 8! drinks were cold and filled with ice so you got less! the staff were rude and although they knew which guests were all inclusive due too wearing bands they would not let other all inclusive people get drinks for them, each person had too go up seperately! there were NO hot dogs so don't get your hopes up! and NO sign of weekly bbq or happy hour! drinks finished at 9.30 then staff became pleasant and very helpful. drinks and ice cream are expensive i would recomment going down hill instead as it is a lot more cheaper and friendlier! there is no diet drinks all full of sugar and cheap!
entertainment finishes early (11.30) due to complaints and not even worth it!
the rooms were basic and dirty! believe what you hear about the drainage system, it is c***!
the beds are hard and the sheets are poo stained!!
the balcony is nice and the views are gorgeous but the hotel did upset a lot of people and especially all inclusive guests! a lot ended up spending more money on food elsewhere, which wasnt the point of an all inclusive holiday!
although you make the hotel these little things and a smile from the staff would make it a hell of a lot better. the place really needs sorting out!

Okay, basically this is a 2.5* hotel. Think of a hostel. The All Inclusive is not very good - the choice of food is appalling. Rola-Cola is their 'Coca-Cola'. It is definitely not worth the money. The rooms in the old part of the hotel are basic, the bathrooms are okay...not really clean and they seriously need cheering up.
The guy at the bar who makes the cocktails (5 euros each) is lovely and me and my 3 female friends really enjoyed going through the cocktail list!
The maids are rude - out of 3 or 4, only one actually knocks to see if anyone is in the room.
The main guy on the reception is one of these 'woe betide me I have to do everything' but if someone offers to help its a sharp NO.
The rep was USELESS when we were there. We didn't know anything about a welcome meeting, the airport departure times were up late, and she basically ignored us.
However, holidays are what you make of them. We spent most days at the beach away from the hotel. We used it for eating and sleeping.
Tips;
GO TO THE BEACH
GO DO THE WATERSPORTS
GO ON A BOAT TRIP
GO TO THE BRITISH BAR AT THE END OF THE BIG HILL
TRY THE KUMQUAT LIQUER
AND DO NOT GO ALL INCLUSIVE - IT IS FAR TOO EXPENSIVE

Plenty of choice on the buffet menus, friendly staff, clean hotel. These people do all the can to ensure you have a good holiday.
There were a few whinging guests who attempt to sway your own opinion, but I took no notice of them. The hotel offers good value for money.
I shook the hands of the owners on my day of departure and cannot wait to revisit this August
