the hotel rooms need a bit of work.very clean.alex is a very nice straight talking guy who will help you in any way he can.not a good location if you have trouble walking.a few elderly people struggled to walk into the main part of the resort.

I chose this location and accommodation fairly randomly but knowing I wanted a traditional Greek apartment this is where I opted for.No disappointment just joy at finding it to be exactly that with the added extra of a fantastic host (Alex)and beautiful location.Anyone not falling in love with this place have chosen something not right for them rather than the place not living up to expectations.Don't ever change Alex

We have just returned from a two week holiday, and we have had a most relaxing holiday, yes some reviews said the apartments were basic, maybe but ours was clean and sheets and towels changed twice a week, plenty of choice when it comes to eating and drinking in the resort, for the price we paid for this budget holiday we could not complain, we were not expecting much for the price we paid but we were more than happy, as the pool area was lovely and quiet, some days there was only 2/3 couples around the pool, if you are on a budget my advice go

overall ok i wouldnt bother with the b&b option we chose to pay an extra £20 each for this but it was coffee/tea,2 slices of toast,1 slice cheese & 1 slice of ham, we could have got this for £2 on the day ?? rooms need updating but overall a lovely peaceful location

If you have a choice, dont choose the alexander beach hotel

It's interesting that the last review was in sept 2009. If this review was accurate. Things have changed. We chose this hotel based on the reviews so I think that it's important that you know what the place is like now.
It is not clean. Our wardrobe smelled of urine and although we brought this to light, nothing was done. The beds are very hard and take a bit of getting used to. Everthing in the apartment had seen better days. The door took a lot of negotiation to open and the bathroom door wouldn't close. The drain was blocked with the former residents hair. The loo brush was filthy. The 'shower' was a bath attachment stuck to the wall. It really was grim. The only good thing was the balcony and it was reasonably quiet.
St George South is a relaxing place to visit. The Makis restaurant is the best place to eat and Spiros on the beach does a fun Greek night. It's a nice place to go, but do yourself a favour and choose another hotel.

We were not expecting anything to grand as this hotel is only 2 star, so felt we got what we paid for.It was basic, and a bit of DIY could be done in the rooms, the room was clean, the pool was good, the breakfast was basic(english or contenental)Alex and his wife were pleasent and tended to keep themselves to themselves. We also stayed in room 14 for our last night..there was a massive tropical storm and it was a bit of a spooky room..heard a lot of strange noises, screaming, ratteling doors and shadows..tho it added to the fun!..would go back, liked the area some lovely walks to small villages and a lake, just a pity there is only one bus a day.
Our main complaint was with Olympic,we didnt find them very helpfull on our departure. There had been a bad storm and we were leaving at 3AM, the water outside was up to the ankles and there were no lights on the hotel road.We rung the rep to ask if the coach could reverse down to the hotel as there was a 75 year old man on his own and 2 blind women and we knew it would be difficult for them with there luggage also. The rep told us that the driver would not do this, yet all the other pick up points on the way to the airport required reversing and turning no smaller than the Alexander beaches. Also we asked the rep if she thaught the storm would delay the flight and she was not helpfull at all. We did infact have a 8 hour delay home which included 3 hours in Switzerland. We wouldnt use Olympic again, but would go back to the hotel.

Poor Quality Accommodation

Having seen the 10/10 reviews here I was expecting more from the Alexander Beach, but we were disappointed to put it mildly. The rooms are shabby to say the least. Bathrooms are tiny, barely room to swing a mouse, never mind a cat. As for the beds, the person who said they were comfy must have been in a different hotel. I barely slept the whole week I stayed there. Walls are so thin you can hear every movement from your neighbours. The drippy loo and taps didn't help much either.
Lighting at the front of the hotel needs seeing to. There isn't any but there's a very uneven ridge right across the entrance, which my mum managed to find within 20 minutes of arriving. Not able to see where the ridge was in the dark, she went flying. Luckily nothing broken, just a few nasty cuts and bruises, but it could have been much worse.
The cleaner did as good a job as she could I think, but the cleanliness of the rooms still left a lot to be desired. Especially the bathrooms.
This wasn't a cheap holiday, but we didn't get value for money at all.
On the plus side, the resort itself is lovely, some good restaurants, not a great many shops, but if you want to shop, Corfu town isn't too far. Loads of car hire places. We used George to hire a car for 4 days. Cost was less than half what the Olympic rep quoted us, so its worth shopping around.
I'd recommend Kim's breakfasts at Telis, just a minute's walk from the Alexander Beach on the main road opposite the church. She does a great bacon and sausage batch!
All in all, I can't recommend the Alexander Beach, but I would recommend St George's itself - assuming you can find somewhere decent to stay!

  • Advice: Nice resort, fantastic sunsets.
  • Activities: Corfu town is a great day out.

Just got back from staying at the Alexander Beach Hotel for a week, for a wedding party, and I think I can safely say we were all blown away. Whilst the accomodation was basic, the beds were comfortable, the views were amazing, and the staff were all friendly, accomodating, and made our stay as pleasant as possible.
The hotel owner, Alex, was a very personable gentleman, always willing to have a joke and a laugh, and on our last night kept the pool and bar open for us until about midnight, as opposed to closing at around 7pm as he usually does.
The food served at the pool bar was generous in its' helpings, piping hot, and the ingredients used were always fresh. Alex told us that he always used new oil when cooking, as oil used multiple times gave a bitter taste. He went out of his way to help us and be unobtrusive and discreet as possible. It's a family run business, and it's easy to see that he takes care of his customers like old friends.
If we go back to Corfu, the Alexander Beach Hotel is the only place we would consider staying, for the hospitality alone.

  • Advice: There are lots of stray animals, terrible drivers, and mosquito repellant is an absolute must.
  • Activities: Lagoudia bar (wonderful drinks, excellent service), Kostas Boat Trips (avoid Mama Mia on Sivota)
  • Good For: City Breaks
  • Board Basis:Self Catering

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at the Alexander Beach Hotel in St George South. Although the rooms are traditional basic Greek accommodation they are clean and comfortable and the hotel is situated just far enough away from the main area to be quiet but close enough to be within easy reach of the tavernas. Alex, the proprietor is extremely friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The pool is clean and the surrounding area is well kept with plenty of comfortable sun beds. The beach is only 5 minutes away and is lovely, soft shelving sand with lots of fish swimming around your feet. The resort is very quiet, even for early in the season. We mainly ate at the Balcony Restaurant where Dimitris and all of the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The walk to Agrygades is definitely worth the effort as the views are beautiful. We would definitely go back.
