Great Holiday
from HENDEB
First impressions of the hotel were very good! Reception very clean and presentable. Only criticism is that the reception and bar area were as one so the 'poor' evening entertainment was on full display! This poor entertainment was highly suited to the many OAPs staying in the hotel! The place was full of them and they were having a ball up waltzing! We were pleased to find our room, along with the rest of the hotel was very clean and spacious. Pool area is great! No fights for sunloungers! But the pool is FREEZING! Food is pretty average! Me and my young daughter tended to live on salad and chips. Fish was served every night which isnt good if you're fussy! The night fried baby octopus was served all we could do was laugh! The location of the hotel is excellent. Near beach, shops and bars! Located on a busy roundabout but this wasnt a problem. Would recommend the hotel and definately go back when we're 60!!!
A Good Base!
from KentRuby
Just come back from a week's holiday at the Salou Princess. Hotel was very clean and well maintained. Most surprised that nearly all of the people staying there were either over 60 or registered handicapped or disabled (not that it mattered). Actually made us thirty somethings feel quite young again! Unless you were actually over sixty, don't think you would be wanting to spend your evenings in the hotel as the evening entertainment was geared towards the older generation (engelbert humperdink's 'please release me' was often to be heard being sung by an act!). Breakfast was lovely, lots of choice from cooked breakfasts to fresh fruit and pastries. Dinner was not so reliable though, but even so we always found something to fill us up. Fish dominated the menu, so if you love this then you will be fine. If you are a very picky eater, would think twice about eating there. Desserts were quite nice. The pool was absolutely freezing and almost empty all the time, bit of a shame wasn't heated. Hotel is very central, close to all amenities, the beach etc. The main bars are only just around the corner, Danny's Bar and 007 being our favourites till the early hours. Basically, it served its purpose for us as a base to our holiday and we liked to fact that it was not full of rowdy teenagers. Going back next year so it was ok for us.
Plenty to do - lovely hotel
from nevisrangers
Lovely marble entrance. 2 lift to the floors. We arrived during early part of the morning ,so the room was not quite ready, left the luggage at reception (safe room), and went out for lunch. Room was ready before estimated time. Room was nice and clean. Overlooked the street, but no trouble with noise (double glazing). Got to say that we do like everything in order, with quality. Rooms either face the street or the pool - in our case we were happy to face the street as it meant that we could not hear the entertainment if we had an early night after a busy day. Some people in pool facing rooms watched the entertainment from their balcony. Considering some of the reviews on the food, we felt that there was plenty, both in quantity and variety, always came out feeling full. Staff were very nice and hard-working, always a smile. There was always a large queue at restaurant opening time, but waiting 30 minutes after that it gets smaller (down to a couple of minutes or so) so it is worth waiting till then. Food is continuously replenished so no problem there. Got to say that the water in the pool was cold. There were enough seats poolside to go around, but you have to be quick to get a sun-lounger. The spa bath is on a terrace which is above the waterfall, very cold again but lovely! You get to it via steps to the left of the waterfall. There is a more private sunbathing area beside the spa. Must admit that there were a lot of senior people there, but we tend to like quiet rather than rowdy, although not dead!!!! All around the area (and close to the hotel) there are plenty of market-style shops with a BIG selection, also cafes/bars etc - usual holiday trade. From the fountain on the waterfront there is a nice walk along the promenade. Bus-top right outside the front door will take you to La Pineda (15 mins) for the Aquopolis water park - excellent full day out! We did that 3 times. Also, a very nice beach in La Pineda. Across the road to the left is another bus-stop (with bus-rep always there) to take you to Portaventura theme park (Warner Bros). Again a full day out (on arrival check the times for the shows eg Wild West, Parrots etc as these add to the day's entertainment and are included in the admission price), or check times for evening as there may be a firework display. We didn't go but there is also a waterepark on the same site, separate entry/price. We felt the Aquopolis park was better. You can take the train to Barcelona (Salou's station about 1 mile away from the hotel), aim for Barcelona Franco station as that is closest to the centre. Journey is about 90 mins or so along the coast. As regards the quality of the hotel - what more can we say other than we've booked again for this year.
hotel was fine

we..family of 7..teenagers and toddlers. stayed at salou princess for 1 week.. end of sept. after reading so many bad reviews...was quite concerned. We found the hotel lovely. very clean and yes there was foreigners but expected that being in a foreign country. Everyone we met, staff and guests were friendly. Staff on reception were extremely helpful. food was not great...but not as bad as i expected it to be. there was lots of variety and always something to please us. will be booking again for next year. great value family friendly hotel.
Not for the young
from Knoz
Me, my wife and 13year old son stayed at the hotel the last 2 weeks of August. We had booked a year in advance and had requested a pool view, this we did not get, our room was on the first floor, at the side of the hotel with what sounded like the boiler room right underneath us. We had no view at all, but the flat roof of downstairs. The hotel itself is very clean and well maintained, there is nice comfortable seating in the bar/reception area and plenty of space on the terrace to sit and find a sunbed. The main complaint about this hotel is that it is geared for the older clientelle, we felt a bit left out. It was also spot the English person, many of the guests are Spanish, French and German. There is nothing for kids of our sons age to do during the day and the evening entertainment was diabolical, every night there was a Spanish singer/singers on and elderly Spanish people waltzing. The food in the restaurant was reasonable enough, there was lots of fish and dishes you didn't have a clue what was in them, but you didn't go hungry. I would suggest that they consider their English guests and put on entertainment that would make you want to stay in hotel and enjoy. Salou itself is a great place, lots of shops and lovely beach we would consider going back, but would have to find accommodation that we felt happy in.
Clean but downmarket.

Just returned from a two week holiday at the salou princess. Hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly. The food was not very good, always cold and not much variety. The pool was not very clean, there was always alot of dirt washing down into it from the top of the waterfall feature. If you are looking for culture do not go to the salou princess or salou itself, if you are looking for beer, sex, chips and gravy then fine. celticfrost, south wales.
Great Hotel
from Lainey01
We have just returned from a two week holiday at the Salou Princess Hotel. The hotels location is excellent, close to all ammenities and just a short bus ride or a reasonable walk to Portaventure ( theme park ). The Hotel was lovely, ran exceptionally well and kept clean. The staff were helpful on reception and any problems were sorted asap. The restaurant was also ran exceptionally well, kept very clean, although the staff spoke little English. This only posed a problem when asking what certain foods were as not all the food were labeled. The food is very continental and at times we struggled to find something we liked. If you like salad and fish..well you will love it here. The buffet looks very impressive, with endless salad and dips. The main course area usually consisted of several choices, fish usually being about 3 of them, followed by tasteless pasta, chips ( which you will see at breakfast too )sometimes potatos, and often unlabeled meat dishes. We had pigs trotters on offer one night and black pudding. Chicken appeared once a week. The worst night was Fridays....SEA FOOD NIGHT...All the ladies are presented with a carnation flower on arrival (nice touch), We are not sea food eaters, so the choice is very limited on Friday, but hey, if you like fish..you will be in paradise. The hotel pool area is lovely and clean with plenty of tables and chairs. They also have plenty of sunbeds. The pool area does not open until 9am, so a queue of sun worshipers await 9am, towel in hand to grab an umberella (as they do not have many ) and a mad dash proceeds to get pride of place near the pool, to toast themselves. Evening entertainment is PANTS. Spanish renditions of "Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree" with elderly couples waltzing in circles is not my idea of entertainment, So we usually went out. Salou itself is nice and clean with shops galore, usually selling what the shop before was selling, but open till late with no siesta during the day so you can shop till you drop. Salou also has plenty of bars, many English orientated with karoke nights (better than hotels entertainment ). The beach is clean but busy in height of the season. All in all we enjoyed our holiday, the weather was fantastic and i would recommend the Salou Princess as it did look like one of the best hotels in the area, and the reps said they have very few complaints from this hotel, unlike some of the others.
LOVELY

Great hotel, fantastic resort
from Loadsoffun
Fantastic hotel fantastic holiday!! I have just returned from this hotel with twins aged 7, a 12 year old and a 16 year old and would highly recommend it. We were on half board and the food was really good, there was always something that we all liked. The pool was great, really clean, not packed and loads of sun beds which had separate comfy foam coverings. Plenty of space and a good mixture of shaded and sunny areas. On one of the terraces was a lovely jacuzzi which was great to relax in, there is also a small gym next to the pool but I didn’t use it because there was no air conditioning (that’s my excuse anyway). The rooms were small but I expected that from reading other reviews and we didn’t spend any time in them anyway. There are small fridges in them but they don’t really work so I wouldn’t recommend you hire one. They were also not kept very clean but the rest of the hotel is immaculate. There is a cash point machine in the hotel but half the time it wouldn’t take my switch card but it did take my credit card so best to take all your cards. The rep said that if you want to pay using your credit card in shops you will need your passport or driving licence as well but I was never asked for it. The staff were really friendly and the waitresses really fussed over the children. However the bar men were really leery both to me and my 16 year old daughter, it got so bad that we wouldn’t go to the bar anymore! The entertainment was rubbish but right across the road is a bar called the Lazy Wave which was brilliant. Every night from 9pm there are children’s and adult games, bingo and karaoke hosted by Gina who was lovely. A very down to earth no frills bar and the kids loved it. They also do a fantastic English Sunday roast. Salou is great, loads of shops, restaurants and bars, a lovely beach all within easy walking distance of the hotel. Great for disabled travellers as everything is flat. We went to Portaventura which was fantastic, loads of great rides and the shows were really good too. We bought an express pass so we wouldn’t have to queue for any of the major rides which I would highly recommend. We went during the day, went back to the hotel for a shower and dinner and then went back in the evening. The firework display at 23.45 is spectacular. We didn’t go to the adjoining Caribe Water Park as it looked to packed in and crowded but we did go to Aquapolis Water Park which was brilliant. Loads of space and a great dolphin show. You can also hire sun beds, a really relaxing day out. We went out for a day on a glass bottom boat which was also brilliant with free drinks all day. Before you get on the boat you have your photo taken which is presented in a key ring with the boat on the other side. You don’t have to buy it but it is a lovely momento. The hosts were great fun, the kids had their face painted for free on the boat and there was karaoke on the way home. We stopped at a small town and market and stopped again at a private beach where we played rounders and a ‘catch the egg game’ which the kids loved (mainly because I got covered). We went to a Spanish night which was a bit of a disappointment. It started with a horse show which I enjoyed but the kids found it a bit boring. Then there was a dance show which the kids slept through! The ‘free drinks’ consisted of half a plastic cup of sangria or juice before the horse show and a bottle of cheap champagne and one cup of juice for the kids during the dance show. Half way through we tried to get a taxi home but there were none around. The shows at Portaventura were better to be honest. There are some good clubs within crawling distance of the hotel, the ones that I went to were 007, Bus Stop, Danny Boy, Kiss and Snoopy’s. The best was Kiss as there were lots of English people there including the reps and they had a hilarious dancing competition. That’s about it - all in all a fantastic holiday and a fantastic hotel, you will have a great time.
Nice Hotel, Great Location, Great Break
from essexjs
Nice Hotel. Friendly Staff. Nice Pool Hotel is in a good location just over the road from 'The Lazy Wave' which is a great Kareoke Bar. I went to Salou about 8 years ago when it was a lot more lively, these days its more of a family resort with a lot of Germans and Scottish. The Sunbeds are normally taken by around 8am (Like i said Germans) and the pool area is rather crowded but the pool itself is very nice at a very nice temprature. The Entertainment in the evening is rather suspect with suspicious looking Spanish men singing German songs and my friend who I was with got struck by a flying pizza on our last night which seemed to be thrown from a balcony. The Tomato Ketchup can be rather hard to find and please don't make the same mistake as i did by mistaking Pasta sauce for Tomato Soup in the resturant. If you love fish for breakfast you will love the food in the Salou Princess. Its also worth taking your own glass for Breakfast as the glass you get for Juice is the size of a egg cup. All in all would use this hotel again for a short stay in Salou.
just had a weeks holiday in hotel princess the hotel was lovely great food and pool was fab location was exelent
