Iberostar Mirabello Hotel & Village Reviews
" This is a 4 not 5 star hotel "
Submitted By: UnderwhelmedOur room was not a prestigious room, on the top floor of a block at the top of the Village with a view over an uninteresting landscape, but it was west-facing and very quiet so we didn't seek to change it. Bathroom under-lit, warm fridge (this seems to be universal), granite-hard beds, and no chairs in the room.
If we'd booked it as 4 star we'd have been happy: an adequate hotel, if not one we'd go out of our way to return to. But 5 star it is not.

Submitted By: Mr G EdwardsBad stuff ? Not really but a couple of things. The food was superb but very 'sameish' to the extent that one could predict what would be where every night !! The Animation Team gave their all but were still an Animation Team.
I was accompanied by a 15 year old daughter and we had a great time - she went to the Paradise Bar on the beach a few times with her new found 'Crew' of similar aged friends and I had no need to worry. All very safe as was the beach. ( I hasten to add that I'm very protective ! ).
Practical stuff ? A taxi to the centre is 5 Euro ( and a better investment than waiting for the dubious bus to arrive ! ). The hotel has a mini market and there's another, literally across the road, so compare prices before you buy.
All in all we had a lovely week, were very well looked after and I'd recommend staying there.
Return visit ? Maybe not ( as we've been totally spoiled by a Menorcan Hotel that we'll visit again !! ). That apart I'd recommend it wholeheartedly.

Submitted By: Mrs H BallThe hotel, facilities, accommodation and staff were excellent. The buffet breakfast and dinner was also very good catering for everybodies taste. The only downside was that the drinks in the hotel were expensive. £20 for 4 soft drinks and 2 small beers.
We were able to use the Mirabello Village swimming pool which was great for all of us.
Our rep orgnaised two trips for us which were to be honest very expensive but having done them would totally recommended them. First we had a whole day on a horse back safari which was really well run by the owner, Gregory and his team. They all made sure that everyone had a good experience and that we did. A+++++
The other trip was a 4x4 experience. Again well run and the guides were very informative and made it a good experience. Again this was for the day and well worth it. A+++++
We found the locals to be really nice, helpful and friendly. And found some nice bars to have a drink/game of pool in the evening.
The submarine experience at the harbour was also well worth it.
All in all a very good hotel, small but nice harbour/town would recommended to all those who enjoy quiet surroundings and not much nightlife.

Submitted By: Mrs C DewarNice enough room with the over priced mini bar that unfortunately was incapable of making ice. Most drinks were 6 euros, and with no ice we did not touch as I suspect most others did not too. The resort of Agios Nicholas is two kilometres down the road and is lovely and very picturesque and the people friendly. A taxi one way will cost you 6 euros, walking half an hour.
We wanted to play tennis but the hotel charges 15 euros per person which we felt two expensive. Everything at the hotel we found expensive, more so now that the pound is weak against the Euro.
Homeward bound we had to vacate our room at midday regardless of the fact that we were not leaving the hotel until 1.15am the following morning. We paid an extra 40 euros to keep the room on until 6pm because we did not fancy the 20min communal shower room. Any extras in this hotel you certainly will pay for!
We had a good week but was thankful it was for a week and not two eitherwise we would have been bankrupt. However, their is a good shop just opposite the hotel which sells pretty much everything and at a reasonable price and the staff are very friendly!
Food is ok in the hotel, plenty of choice. Can be bit of a conveyor belt but only to be expected with the amount of people to feed.

Submitted By: Miss L WattsThe hotel was beautiful and had its own private beach which was lovely. Overall the holiday was relaxed and perfect and is close enough to the nearst town for evening entertainment. Not too close that it's loud at night.

Submitted By: Mrs Soyeb VesmawalaOur rooms were a farce and spent the first night sharing with six other women and the men in another room. The so called snack bars were half a dozen tiny sandwiches at a time, thats if you dared to ask. As for entertainment this was zero apart from a piano in a corner, never saw anything for children and all icecreams and lollys had to be paid for. Its not like any other all inclusive I have been to.

Submitted By: Miss S SmithWe weren't able to book a sea view room which we were disappointed about but needn't have been as we had a beautiful big room with a lovely bathroom with a shower over the bath - very powerful and a separate shower. A generous balcony the size of the room with a great view of the village pool.
The buffet restaurant is of good- to excellent quality with lots of choice although it does get a bit boring by the end of the week - I think any buffet does. There was always a choice of chicken, fish, rice, chips, vegetables, dips, breads, salads as well as a fresh grill section and a large dessert selection.
Good stuff about the hotel/village: AI means you don't need to pay extra for anything (but one snack bar is extra out of the AI hours), fantastic spa (but expensive) great design and layout of the whole complex even though it’s a large hotel it didn't feel imposing or too big, very helpful and friendly staff, very clean facilities and room.
Bad stuff: not much within walking distance of much - one supermarket right next door and restaurant down the road; if not AI drinks are expensive.
Would recommend.

Submitted By: Mrs M LeeA taxi to Ag Nik costs 5 Euros. The room was clean and spacious but the mini bar prices were a bit expensive.
The buffet food is very good with plenty of variety however; we chose to eat out several nights to experience the local restaurants. (Olga's just five minutes’ walk away was very good with lovely views).
All the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Thomas from the beach bar and Ernie from the entertainment team.
We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Submitted By: Mrs L LewinSo we arrive at the Mirabello into a 'self catering' studio half hour earlier than we should, only to be told our room is not ready until 4pm.
OK, we have a drink in the well over priced bar then go to our room, quite a hike and was not offered a buggy. Yes very nice, big double bed, nice balcony, nice view.
But, self catering it is not, for all you timeshare people out there, no cooking facilities at all, not even to make toast, fridge is a mini bar which turns off when you take the key out, so milk was going off like every day...that is if you can fit it in.
The shower looked posh but it might well have been a wet room as although there was a shower screen, the water still sprayed all over the bathroom, flooding the floor.
Rooms were serviced only every 3 days, and as we were 'self catering' (with no cooking facilities) and no washing up facilities except in the bathroom.
I deliberately left a dirty dish that had had yoghurt and honey in the bathroom and lo and behold next morning was a king size cockroach with long antennae an even longer legs, luckily dead drowned in the bowl, would have freaked if it were alive.
That was it... we had a fantastic week on the south east coast of the island the week before and as I said at the beginning, RCI overlapped our accommodation, so after 3 days at the Mirabello off we go back to the south coast...how refreshing... such a beautiful place.
Unfortunately, we didn't know this beforehand. Iberostar is a Spanish company and they have Spanish standards, so impersonal, you are a number, not a name, unfortunately the service is the same. They may have their little touches like shower gels etc but it will never be Greek.
Please read my review on the Villea Village in Makri Gialos....ohh so different.
Over all I would not recommend staying at the Mirabello, there are so many better places to stay, maybe not as luxurious but a lot cheaper and a damn site more friendly!

Submitted By: Mrs N DentThe hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, the accommodation was very good, clean, (but basic), everything worked, and our room was very spacious.
The food was good and very well presented.
The spa and pool facilities were excellent. I would recommend this hotel and location.

Submitted By: Mr A DmitrijevThe hotel itself is clean and tidy, well-designed and the private beach is lovely. Grumpy travelers would take issue with a thing or two (having to wait for drinks at dinner, weak entertainment programme etc) but for us the vacation was perfect. Rooms are well maintained and the air conditioning is top notch.
To anyone planning a vacation to Crete I would strongly recommend renting a car or a bike and driving around the island for a few days. Don't let the all inclusive offers keep you in the hotel and do not opt for any guided tours or excursions. The best part of Crete is not in what little remains of the Minoan settlements (including Knossos) but in the lovely small villages along mountain roads and the magnificent views you will enjoy along the way. You will want to stop often and take long detours, so guided tours will be a tremendous waste of time.

Submitted By: Miss L ChiuThe outward flight was a complete nightmare. I had a mother who did not control or discipline her child sitting next to me, and during the 3 hr flight, I got hit 3 times and had my earphones yanked out of my ears whilst the child cried none stop. My partner in the meantime had an excited 16 year old who was clearly on her first ever holiday behind him constantly shaking his seat!
The return flight was at 3am in the morning, but got delayed by 2.5hrs. No explanation, no staff around at the airport. Food on the plane is what you expected plane food to be like in the 1980's - disgusting. I will never fly with First Choice ever again.
The resort was brilliant - we stayed at the 5* Village on an AI. The only thing to fault is the lack of waiters in the restaurants; we were always waiting around to get served for our drinks. The buffet was nice, but gets a bit boring by the end of the week. If you stay for a full week you get to eat in the A La Carte restaurant which was lovely except for the fact the you were given a set menu which is worse than the buffet food.

Submitted By: Miss AC GameWe had specifically booked a maisonette in Mirabello village so that my son could have a separate room of his own. When I found out that the arrangement of the maisonette was king size bed upstairs and two singles downstairs I immediately contacted the hotel who arranged for there to be a double bed downstairs also. (We wanted our son to have the room upstairs so that we would not disturb him in the evenings). When we arrived we were told we had been upgraded and were taken to our room. Well, the view was spectacular! (We had requested a sea view but we weren't expecting what we got) The view was easily the best in the whole complex. Especially in the morning as the sun rose right in the middle of the sea! My partner and I got up at 6 most mornings just to watch it, it was amazing!
Anyway back to the review. I'd been told that family, especially small children, are everything in Greece and Crete and my son felt centre of attention the whole time which he loved! The food was wonderful! I was especially impressed with the children’s section. So much thought was put into it, there were different dishes every night! My son isn't really into junk food, he'd rather eat pasta, vegetables and salad etc so was really pleased to see not a single chicken nugget all week!
The staff were always polite, courteous and friendly and helped out at every opportunity. There were little golf buggies that could take you up to the village part and several times my son (who is almost 3) sat on the drivers lap and drove us home!! It was the highlight of his holiday!
All in all I can really find nothing bad to say about the holiday at all. Everything was clean, well cared for and we had a wonderful time.
I'd recommend it to anyone, especially those with children as they'd love all the attention! My little guy was speaking several words of Greek by the end of the week! The locals were most impressed.
Fantastic!

Advice: Agios Nikolaos is a pretty town built around a lake
Activities: A must see is a trip to a village called Kritsa, where the locals sell handmade products.
Good for: Beach
