Hotel reception very clinical and cold a bit like the STAFF especially the reception MANAGER, only nice members of staff were the maids they were very friendly. Paid for a side sea view room cost nearly 100 euros extra for it, got room 711 .You have to hang half your body... more

Last year (2010) my wife and I spend 4 weeks (yes 4 weeks) in the Jupiter Hotel. We found the food was good, the staff were helpful, and the best of all was the music by the pool every evening. This is the best dancing scene for the not-so-young in Praia Da Rocha, and the... more

Hotel was nice and looks the part from the outside and as you walk in through the main entrance. The rooms are, however, quite basic. Be prepared to pay 10 euros extra per night for a balcony at the side of the building and 15 euros extra a night for one at the front of... more

Loved the beach
Have just returned from Xmas at this hotel. Hotel is ok - clean and bright. Had concerns with the restaurant - food very average and no choice. Be aware of the tour operator you go with because you have to pay for your own drinks with your meals. Restaurant staff were awful, unfriendly and cocky, felt you had to get out as soon as you got in. However bar staff and reception managers were very nice and friendly. Hotel was full of the older generation over this period. Beach was lovely and romantic and night life quiet but my teenagers found life and had a great time. Look out for MJ's irish bar - so cosy, cheap and friendly.
Return Visit to resort
Returned from a fortnight at the Jupiter Hotel (23rd Sept to 6th Oct 2006) We stayed at the front of the hotel rooms were very spacious and clean, would not recommend a room at the back of the hotel as you have no balcony. The breakfast at the hotel was average they had a large selection avaliable. The snack bar food was very nice and resonably priced. This is our second visit to the resort and the beach area is better now as they have decking along it to make it easier to walk along. Last year we stayed at the Tivoli Arade which again was a nice hotel however if you prefer to be nearer the town we would recommend the Jupiter and if you prefer a quiet location and a 10/15 min walk into town we would recommend the Tivoli Arade. Both these hotels are available through SEGURO holidays out of Prestwick which is cheaper to fly from than Glasgow. BEST Meals were in DUKES and BIG REDS. We eat in Dukes nearly every days between lunches and evening meals. Would also say that the Jupiter does not cater for Kids and the entertainment is for the older person.
first time in portugal
my husband and i stayed at the jupiter hotel for a fortnight beginning 2nd of september. Never being in portugal before we didnt know anything about either the country or the hotel. We were not disappointed in either..the hotel was lovely we were at the back of the hotel but on top floor we had a massive balcony which overlooked the marina the view was gorgeous. the hotel staff couldnt do enough and were very nice. the only thing we found was it caters more for the portugese at weekends...if you go out for dinner then come back to the hotel it was very hard to get a seat in the area where the entertainment was because the portugese liked the entertainment which was on in the hotel and came in..so the residents couldnt get a seat..other than that we couldnt fault the hotel.. for dining out we would recommend DUKES...THE TITANIC AND THE ATLANTIS..meals were lovely and the staff inall of them are so attentive.. the only other disappointment was that my husband who is middle aged couldnt go out in the street witout being asked if he wanted to buy HASH!!!!!!!! we couldnt believe it... so be warned!!!!... doesnt matter when or where we were going he was constantly asked every time..overall we had a great time and yes we would definately go back
Ask about there apartments
Just returned from this hotel where we stayed one week.(13 - 20 Sep 2006) The hotel was nice (NO building work going on at all - could see where a hotel had been demolished) We ended up being moved from our hotel room as my parents didn't have a balcony ( they were at back of hotel - not reccomended and they told us they liked to keep familys together). They moved us to apartments right next to the hotel, which were fabulous. Very spacious compared to our room in hotel (which was to house two adults and child of 4yrs - no space to turn with three beds). They gave us two apartments which both had two bedrooms and balconys overlooking the beach.- HIGHLY reccommended! We were on a B & B basis, parents were on Half board basis - meals were not great in hotel, but LOTS of fantastic places to eat out nearby. I personally wouldn't book half board here. The hotel itself was clean and tidy but the pool was FREEZING be warned!! (Ok after 10 mins.) I would return to Praia Da Rocha - the beaches were fabulous. I would also return to Hotel Jupiter but would book to stay in the apartments - much more spacious, especially for kids.
Excellent time at Jupiter Hotel from Irish Couple
Just came back from our stay in Praia da Rocha. Had a wonderful time staying in Hotel Jupiter. We are a young couple and were a little bit worried about staying here when we heard about building going on in the area. When we arrived we were greeted at reception and given our key. Our room had a nice balcony and was overlooking the beautiful beach of praia da rocha. Room was a nice size and had a minibar, air conditioning, shower/bath, tv, phone, etc. Everything that we required. Only thing that some couples might like that was not in the room was tea making facilities, i.e no kettle. Swimming pool was lovely and clean, however deep end might not be suitable for young kids. Breakfast was served at 7 til 10 and had a great selection for everyone...... cereals, various breads, ham, cheese, fruit, rashers, eggs (scrambled and fried), sausages (little ones!!!), fried tomatoes, yogurts.... the list goes on. Location wise it overlooks the beach and is at the quiet end of the street. All the shops are within minutes walk away. Its 5 minutes away by car from the busy town of Portimao. The staff here were also very friendly and always had someone at reception incase you required there assistance. At night, there was a singer however more suited to older people. Younger people will find better entertainment further down the street. All told its a great place, would definately stay here again and would advise anyone to stay here also. I would advise anyone booking here to book a sea view room as the view is amazing, also to walk down to the gorgeous beach of praia do vau, and also to eat at the Titanic restaurant as food is the nicest you will ever taste!!
Building site
We have just got back from this hotel and it has got 5 building sites within 100 yards of it. One is ongoing in the hotel itself. One is in front of it, and another is the Hotel priaia da rocha being demolished next to it and I mean 60 foot from the Jupiter. The work started at seven in the morning and went on until eight at night. Another of the sites the one in front of the Jupiter starts at the same time and can go on until ELEVEN AT NIGHT!!! It's not a bad hotel as it happens but you would be well advised to ask your travel agent about the ongoing work that is going on. I think it will be at least 2 years before it is over. By the way do not take a room at the back of this hotel under any circumstances that is if you like to get some sleep. You have been warned. As I say it is not a bad place as such but I will not be going back. No harm to anyone.
Very convenient
my wife and i have just returned from the Jupiter after 1 week half board. we found the hotel to be very clean and fresh . The room and bathroom were very clean and modern but expected a balcony as standard but you may have to ask for one, staff were kind and friendly location was perfect just a short walk to both shops and beach. The food was not as good as we would have expected, breakfast was buffet style continental no fry ups not to bad but a bit repetitive .The evening meal was a big disappointment only 2 choices very small portions and not very warm. I think people coming in of the street had a far better menu. So i would probably say b&b rather than half board. Entertainment was more suited to the local taste but everybody was enjoying themselves, having said that it is just a short walk to the pubs and clubs.
Jupiter Hotel,Praia De rocha,Nr Portimao
Me and my wife are just back from a stay at the Jupiter Hotel. Here are our honest comments about the hotel, resort and eating out. The hotel is situated in the middle of the main sea front in Praia De Rocha and opposite the lovely beach. It would have been stunning if people would not dump their fag ends on it! The hotel itself was very nice in many ways but average in others. The room was immaculate and beautifully decorated. The air conditioning takes a while to understand but it is so quiet you can sleep like a log even when it is on at night. Breakfast is buffet style and a decent size. Warning! The only hot item is scrambled egg every sinle morning which is just not good enough. No bacon...... nothing. You have to make your own toast and get your own tea or coffee. The entertainment was good but repetative. The same Portugese music for six nights of the week by two different guys, and I mean the same music. The other night being the outdoor buffet night. Now the restaurants. We tried recommended restaurants every night for 10 nights and only went back to two. They were Leo's Bistro (small but cosy) and the Atlantis (roomy and beautifully decorated). Head out of the hotel and turn right. Both were on the right side of the road and down a few steps. Look out for their advertising boards because they are off the main road. The service and food was absolutely superb. Great portions too.Just go there your first two nights. All in all a good holiday but we did prefer Albufeira last year.We went with Seguro Holidays. They were superb. Very well organised and always curteous and on time with trips and transfers. A three star plus rating overall.
absolutly brilliant.
well what can i say??? i almost cancelled my holiday for 2 adults and 2 children at the jupier saturno after reading the reviews on here.well im so glad i didnt i got back 1 hour ago and couldnt wait to write this review. it was clean and there was so much for all of us to do. food was great and so much to choose from you can have your food cooked in front of you...how is it cold?? pools were clean but my little girl did step on a piece of glass and the pool was closed down imediatly then she was tended to by one of the friendly and happy staff.all staff couldnt do enough for you. my girls aged 7 and 11 went in the kids club every day which gave us a few hours on our own. the lifts were fine and never had to wait to be served longer than a few minutes and yes the hotel was compleetly full. entertainment was great so much going on you coulod choose exactly what you wanted to do. the walk to the beach was 15 min max and was great. i could write lots more but this was a definate 10/10 from my fussy lot. one downfall was i refused to get up at 5.45 am to place my towel on the sunbeds so we only got a bed a couple of days but sitting on the chairs was not a problem as i could still see the kids.
What are the moans about?
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and obviously if we are to judge by the reviews The Jupiter is not all things to all people. My wife and I found it to be a very pleasant hotel, close to a beautiful beach and in the heart of the town. Staff were friendly and rooms air conditioned and comfortable. Breakfast was ok though with an over fondness for scrambled egg but we cannot vouch for other meals as we prefer to eat out. Evening entertainment was no worse than many places we have visited and overall the holiday was very enjoyable.
