Just back from 2 weeks half board in the Sol D'Or in La Pineda. Got a good deal when I booked but I'm sorry to say I've stayed in better hotels. The hotel is clean - but the cleaning staff were very rude - make sure you are not 5 mins late checking out. The food is ok,... more

I stayed at the sol d'or for a week with my 8 year old sister and my dad. We've stayed in salou a couple of times before And although we've had a good holiday, we found this to be the best yet! The hotel was clean and tidy. The pool area and pool itself was also clean as it... more

My wife reckons and I agree this was the best holiday we have ever had - although we have to admit to being Spanish holiday "virgins" ! The room though basic was kept very clean (daily) and was sufficient for our needs and is air conditioned . The only slight criticism was... more

If you have booked a holiday in this hotel do not be worried by any bad reviews. Although this hotel is only 3* it offers excellent value for money simply because the staff are diligent and friendly. Yes the hotel needs updating particularly the bar area which has a 1970's... more

Brilliant hotel. Extremely clean and friendly, good for families! Must say children’s pool is a bit on the smaller side but the kidney shaped pool is an ok size and again is cleaned regularly. The food at this hotel was fantastic, a lot of thing to choose from hot meat,... more

Good and Bad
We have mixed feelings about our stay at the Sol D'or. The Good: - Very clean and well kept. The housekeeping staff do an excellent job both in the rooms and in the common areas. Everything, including the pool area and dining areas, was spotless. There was none of the dreaded black mould that I have found at many a four/five star hotel. - Very good location for the Pineda beach and more. It's about 1 block from the Pineda beach (a family beach), and on the bus route (number 1 bus) to Salou, and Port Aventura - The staff were very helpful and friendly. - They did a good job with the meats and fruits in the buffets with a grilled selection at dinner, and pancakes/eggs cooked on the grill each morning. - There were a mix of nationalities when we stayed there - British, Russian, French and many Spanish with no lager louts to be seen. The Bad - The walls were paper-thin, and we could hear not only the family beside us having animated conversation at 7am and midnight, but also the people above us! - The food was uninspired and there was a severe lack of vegetables. The only fresh veggies on hand were bowls of iceberg lettuce and sliced peppers, to supplement the array of picked-everything and the single overcooked veggie selection that reappeared every night (greenbeans the first night, greenbeans with mushrooms the second, greenbeans with carrots the third... you get the idea). - The entertainment went on until midnight. Every night. Very loudly. This was our first trip to Spain so maybe this is normal but the late, unavoidably loud entertainment keeping us up until 12:30am, coupled with the loud, unavoidable family of (what felt like 15) next door cpupled with the paper thin walls meant that we left our holiday with severe sleep deprivation. It was hard to enjoy it all when we all felt like zombies. - The Pineda beach, a block away, overlooks the scenic (ahem) oil refineries of Tarragona. Better beaches are a bus ride or walk away in Salou - the Playa Llarga had cleaner water and a more scenic view. - This isnt the place for lively singles/couples as the nightclubs we walked by in Pineda were a bit sad. On the bright side, this made it a wonderful family place. - Port Aventura was a bit of a let down. It was super crowded and the queues for the more exciting rides topped 2 hours! If you like less thrilling rides and/or shows, then you will have a better experience. Also, buy your tickets ahead of time at the hotel to avoid huge queues at the entrance, and/or buy a 'max' ticket that allows you to jump the queue. All in all, I think the Sol D'or is a decent value for the money, but if you require more than 6 hours of sleep a night and require a balanced diet, this may not be the place for you. We wouldn't go back, but I don't think that everyone will have the same issues with it that we did.
Amazing!!!
Booked this holiday for my Mother and Daughter through SunMaster on the internet, then read reviews and was a bit apprehensive. No need. My Daughter is 14 she loved the pool and enjoyed the food, BUFFET STYLE also, being all inclusive you could get drinks, lollys and snacks (Burgers, Hotdogs, Chips and Toasties) throughout the day at the bar. The entertainment in the night was a childrens disco from 9-10 after there was any type of show, which was fairly good such as: Jugglers and Flamenco dancers. The beach is just down the road and Salou centre is literally 5 minutes away in a taxi, this only costs 7€ from outside the hotel and the bus was 6€ (2 adults 2 children) from a bus stop by the beach (on the opposite side of the road). If you dont fancy Salou follow the beach and there are just as good shops with everything you need, in La Pineda town. For a good value for money holiday this is it.!!! My daughter would love to go back, and is nagging me to book a holiday for all of us.!!!!!!!!!!!!! ENJOY! =)
Great Location for 1 week breaks.
We booked this holiday through Travelrepublic.co.uk. The location is in La Pineda, not Salou altghough the bus there is 1E50. The location is very close to the beach of El Raco and also La Pineda Main Beach. You can walk to the waterpark from here. Surrounding Hotles are also of high standard. Building Site Opposite in 2007 but remember they shut for whole of August. 35E Taxi Fare from Reus Airport. Food was very good standard, buffet style with some grill cooking in each mealtime. Evening Entertainment pretty patchy. Go to the Waterfront Pub on the beachfront for a great meal during your stay - terrific food and great value. All Inclusive controlled by a swipe card which means proper glasses and the mix of board basis in the hotel means it doesnt become a degenerative mess every day. All in All, if you book expecting 3* All Inclusive to Spain with good weather and good location, you won't be disappointed.
Loved it great location
We went on the 25th june which was our wedding anniversary, when we got to the hotel it was in a great location and close to the beach. you can see the beach from the main entrance and a 2 minute walk from the main promernade. you can get on the bus or land train to solu very cheaply and they go to porta venturer. You also have a water park about 5 mins from the hotel and that's walking there. the food was great and fresh, the rooms are roomy and clean. We are going back next year with the children because there is things for them to do localy without traveling to far and we enjoyed ourselfs so much. If you don't have transfers from the airport haggle with the taxi's outside but make sure you agree a price before you leave i think it cost us 30 euros for the pair of us wheres if you arrange this through the travel agents it is around 70 euros each.
Amazing Holiday
One of the best holidays we have ever had, lots to see and do in or around the hotel. Aquapolis, the water park was well worth the money even if you just went along to watch the dolphin show. the slides were fab with loads of lifeguards watching your every move. The market was good fun even if you just want to look rather than buy. (i managed to haggle 50 euros off a tablecloth). The hotel was superb the staff were very friendly and the maids were lovely. The rooms were cleaned everyday and fresh towels everyday which was a surprise because i have never had that in a hotel before. The food was lovely with plenty to choose from and a different theme every night.(if you cant find something you like theres something wrong with you) The beach is not even 5 minutes away and salou a short bus ride but there was so much to do where we were that we didnt need to venture that far this time. Nice to see some people on holiday on there own and they seemed to be made very welcome, we certainly spoke to them. The bar staff were friendly and made us very welcome and the entertainment had something for eveyone. Excellent trip and cant wait to go back again.
Not for Kids
Hotel is nice and clean. Rooms cleaned every day with fresh towels. Food was really good although had to queue for somethings. Two pools one for adults and one for kids although the kids pool was a little on the small side. Entertainment was poor in the hotel. Nothing for the kids apart form a 15 minute mini disco every night with the same songs played everynight. No kids club or anything for the kids during the day. No swings or play area for the kids. States the hotel is in Salou but it is actually in a town called La Pineada which is outside Salou.
Loved it
When we arrived we were very impressed by the entrance. The hotel was clean and the reception staff were nice enough. The rooms were comfortable and although obviously not 5* for what we paid for the holiday we thought we had an excellent deal. Saying that all the other hotels i've stayed in all inclusive in the med i've never had tolietries in the bathroom and welcome sweets on the dresser before. The following day we headed down the bar / swimming pool. The pool was small but big enough seing as the sea is so close by. Initially the staff did come accross as fairly arrogent and unfriendly but as the week we went on we became good friends will all the bar staff - and on occasions even went out drinking with them out of hours!! Pedreo doesn't speak a work of english but is absolutly hillarious - look out for him. Luis, Jonatan, Hugo, Jenny, Julian, Adrian - they made the holiday, be good to them and they'll be good to you - although watch out of their flaiming teapot drink, it will knock your socks off!!!! I'm a fussy eater but i found the food to be of a good quality and good variety too. Breakfast and Dinner there was a chef on a grill cooking up fresh goodies. The location is great approx 10 mins by taxi from Reus airport ( don't be put off - we didn't see a plane overhead all week!!) Port Adventurer on your doorstep approx 5 mins away by car and some kind of aqualand with dolphins about a 5 min walk down the front. The bar did shut a little early (11.30 for all inclusive) for our taste but there were several bars, our favourite being Graffiti, just a short walk away. Without a doubt the best spanish holiday to date - I will def be going back!!!!
Ok but not great
Stayed for 7 nights in July -2 family bedrooms. Checked into Hotel at approx 11am and rooms were ready - this was great !! Nice friendly receptionist. Hotel and bedrooms a bit dated but clean. Air conditioning just fine and rooms looked into a forgotten back garden. Entertainment was poor for kids and just fine for adults. The noise level was awful in the bedrooms - children and adults - talking, singing etc. Went to the Portadventura Park and stayed for the fireworks so we were late back to the Hotel. With a young baby we asked for some milk for his bottle - the nightporters said there was none !!! (This is a 3 star hotel that provides breakfast, lunch and dinner - HELLO) !!! My husband had to go down the street and into another bar and they helped. Pool lovely and clean and relaxing for any family. Pool bar provides delicious toasties etc but prepare to wait and wait and wait !!!
ignore the bad review above or below
Me and my partner stayed at the sol d'or for 8 nights half board, when we first arrived at the hotel the hotel entrance was very clean and the staff was very friendly, she advised me that we could not check into our rooms till 12pm so she directed us to the bar where we could get a drink. The rooms were very clean and cool as the air con was on, the balcony was quite big we had a nice pool view, the restaurant is quite small but the food was great with a large selection to choose from. The beach was only 50m away which was really clean there is also a rocky cove near by which is great for snorkelling. The resort of la Pineda is very quiet its great for couples and families looking for a low key holiday.
Not Good
This hotel is cheap and so my expectations were not high, however I really wish I had spent a bit more and gone elsewhere. The food is dreadful, the beds gave me backache all week, the staff are not great and it is noisy every night until 12pm. The only plus is that the rooms are clean, but that's pretty standard these days. If you want a nice relaxing holiday, please look elsewhere, do not be tempted by the low price.
