Just back from 2 weeks half board in the Sol D'Or in La Pineda. Got a good deal when I booked but I'm sorry to say I've stayed in better hotels. The hotel is clean - but the cleaning staff were very rude - make sure you are not 5 mins late checking out. The food is ok, the menu is repeated every week - thats not a huge issue. The hotel consists of 3 blocks - 5 stories in each block so I found the pool and the area around the pool too small for the amount of guests. Most of the pool area is grass - when wet was like a muddy fiely - I thought I left all that behind when I left Ireland! The room was also very small we had 2 adults and one child (11 years old)and our bathroom had no window or vent. The good points are that the air con was excellent and the restaurant staff were good - especially Vincent and Maria.

I stayed at the sol d'or for a week with my 8 year old sister and my dad. We've stayed in salou a couple of times before
And although we've had a good holiday, we found this to be the best yet!
The hotel was clean and tidy. The pool area and pool itself was also clean as it was cleaned daily.
The food was good, with quite a lot of choice for everyone. The snack bar food was available when the resturant was closed , serving food that you would expect at reasonably high standards such as hot daog and chips.
The hotel staff and cleaners were friendly and pleasent.
The bar staff were great, with great humour and personality.
The entertainment staff were also great as they worked from 11am until midnight everyday!!
Because of all of the above, the only reason we left the hotel was 2 buy gifts for the people at home who missed out!
For the really reasonable price we paid, the holiday was excellent thanks to the bar and entertainment staff!!!!
We have already booked for next year!!!!!

Have just returned from a weeks stay at the Sol Dor and have to say it was one of the best hols ever!
ROOMS:Rooms are great, nearly all have pool view balconies and are cleaned every day if you put your tag on the door handle. I think they all have air con too which was a godsend in August!
FOOD:Food was great, plenty of choice, never went hungry. Its waiter service for the drinks too which was brilliant.
POOL: Pool was a decent size although lilos are not allowed, which is not a problem as the beach is only five minutes away! Never had any problems getting sunbeds, there were still plenty available at 9.30 and this was August! Music is played around the pool and plenty of games and stuff provided by the crazy rep who kept announcing that he loved his wife??!! The hotels dance is very entertaining!
ENTERTAINMENT: Well it was a bit naff to say the least but you just have a laugh and make the most of it! Whilst there we saw Belly Dancers, Chinese Acrobats, a Singing Duo (cher impersonater and Tom Jones on Helium!) Hula Dancers (could have done it better myself lol) and a Karaoke night, this was amazing, never seen a setup like it in my life, singers are filmed and shown on massive screens and you have the option of purchasing the dvd afterwards for 5 euro, although ours DID NOT WORK! Mini disco for a full hour every night, disappointed there was no Bingo though. The Hotel is predominantly Spanish guests so think the entertainment was aimed at them more than anyone else. All Inc bar ends at 11.30 and everything shuts down promptly at 12 and goes very quiet so no worries getting some sleep. Unfortunately your stuck with the entertainment because we only saw one Irish bar outside the Hotel and it costs 4 euro a pint!
AREA: La Pineda is Beautiful, quiet and scenic and the Beach is just unbelievable. There are a few shops in a short walking distance from the hotel although they all sell the same things. If its shops you want then you can jump on a bus for 2.20 euro into Salou and shop to your hearts content! A few restaurants on the main strip of shops in La Pineda, though we didn't try any as we were All Inclusive.
The waterpark AQUAPOLIS is about a ten minute walk away and is well worth a visit! A good mix of big and small slides, so suitable for all ages. Entrance prices vary from 24 to 27 euro for one day.
Portaventura also worth a visit although it is expensive, 44 Euro for a day pass but you get a second day free. there is the option to go at night which we did and is only 27 euro but it just wasn't long enough, some of the rides do close early and you don't get chance to see many shows as your too busy queueing for the rides!
All in all if your going to the Sol Dor your in for a great holiday, I would recommend to anyone and would go back tomorrow! Enjoy your holidays!!!!

i went for our holiday to relax and la pineda is a very quiet area. more suitable for the older generation i would imagine. the locals we found were not so friendly and staff at the sol dor was not to our standards as were the rooms. very basic. the beach on the other hand was beautiful and salou centre is only a ten minute bus ride which was very cheap. thompson staff were ver helpful and did their best to ensure our stay was a happy one so only for them we would have been lost

My wife reckons and I agree this was the best holiday we have ever had - although we have to admit to being Spanish holiday "virgins" !
The room though basic was kept very clean (daily) and was sufficient for our needs and is air conditioned . The only slight criticism was that we like to have a quiet evening in the room (my wife has been ill and tires easily ) and were were placed on the ground floor facing into the 3 sided patio where the evening entertainment lasts till midnight . Rather than moan about it we used our mp3 players, if we went again we would ask to be put in a room on the opposite side of the corridor.
The buffet style food was excellent. There was plenty of choice of both local and other foods and it would be hard to find anyone who would not be catered for.
The staff were friendly and helpful and for the most part spoke good English. Just a quick plud for the "Dubliner" Irish pub over the road - If you like sport they show all the live football matches from the Premiership and do good food and are very friendly too !
The hotel is only about 5 mins walk from the beach at La Pineda where there are shops also. La Pineda is not as busy as Salou (a short bus ride away) but you can get most things you want there.
The general clientel of the hotel tended to be families with young children (and a few older ones) which siuted us well - No drunken teenagers spoiling it for everyone else.
The pool was in the centre of the 3 sides of the hotel and was great to relax in .
All in all we had a great time and are contemplating going back next year

If you have booked a holiday in this hotel do not be worried by any bad reviews. Although this hotel is only 3* it offers excellent value for money simply because the staff are diligent and friendly. Yes the hotel needs updating particularly the bar area which has a 1970's look to the decor but this is made up for by being very clean, and offering good food which is always hot and varied.

Brilliant hotel. Extremely clean and friendly, good for families!
Must say children’s pool is a bit on the smaller side but the kidney shaped pool is an ok size and again is cleaned regularly.
The food at this hotel was fantastic, a lot of thing to choose from hot meat, cold meat fish, soups, vegetables and much more!
The hotel rooms themselves were basic but clean and tidy looking.
Location is great right next to beach and a 10 walk to the promenade.
Would strongly recommend this hotel had a fantastic holiday here!

Really enjoyed la pineda, the hotel I could not say we had any problems with at all, the air conditioning in our room was leaking reported it to reception and it was repaired within the hour.
Lots of entertainment, aquafit, archery. The food was fine. Metres from the beautiful beach, and buses run very frequently which take you to salou and portaventura very cheaply.
But overall best sol d'or was a nice hotel, oh and try the pub called the waterfront the food is absolutely beautiful especially the steak pie.

My friend and I, both 22, have recently returned from one week, all-inclusive holiday at Hotel Sol d'Or.
We booked the holiday through teletext as a late deal and did not know what to expect as it was not with a major tour operator. Therefore, we had little knowledge of the hotel or the area.
The hotel was situated a few minutes walk from La Pineda where there was numerous bars, restaurants and the sandy beach. It was a nice resort with some nightlife but for a more lively night, Salou was a short taxi ride away. The aqua park was walking distance from the hotel and Port Aventura was about 10 minutes taxi away.
We arrived at the hotel at 10am; however, the room was not ready until 12noon. This was not a problem as we were given a secure room to leave our luggage and could use all the facilities in the meantime.
The accommodation was brilliant for a 3* hotel. The room was immaculate and spacious. The cleaners changed the towels every day and the bedding was changed once. It could be quite noisy at night, doors banging and people talking, as there were no doors separating the lobby area to the corridors.
We were given an all-inclusive card, which included bottled water, which was great for during the day. There was a wide range of dishes available at each meal time, ranging from vegetarian to a chef cooking fresh meat, almost like an indoor barbeque! Even for the fussiest eater you could get by with burger and chips each mealtime. The food was always hot and of a high standard. Our only fault with the food was that there is only so much pasta and rice you can eat, and if we had been there for two weeks we would have become bored with the options.
The hotel offered entertainment during the day but this was limited due to the facilities at the hotel. Most evenings there was some form of entertainment with a cabaret show every Saturday evening.
The hotel accommodated people of all nationalities and for once getting a sun bed mid-morning was not a problem!
The hotel staff were friendly and tried to cater for all your needs. We did not have any problems whilst staying here and would definitely book there again.

Jul 2006, Mrs O Family

Stayed for 7 nights in July -2 family bedrooms. Checked into Hotel at approx 11am and rooms were ready - this was great! Nice friendly receptionist. Hotel and bedrooms a bit dated but clean.
Air conditioning just fine and rooms looked into a forgotten back garden. Entertainment was poor for kids and just fine for adults. The noise level was awful in the bedrooms - children and adults - talking, singing etc. Went to the Port Aventura Park and stayed for the fireworks so we were late back to the Hotel. With a young baby we asked for some milk for his bottle - the night porters said there was none! (This is a 3 star hotel that provides breakfast, lunch and dinner - Hello)!
My husband had to go down the street and into another bar and they helped. Pool lovely and clean and relaxing for any family. Pool bar provides delicious toasties etc but prepare to wait and wait and wait!

Ideal Hotel for anybody with a young family. Only a 10 minute walk to the beach, which is very clean and the sea is shallow for some way out.
The hotel staff were very friendly, the food was excellent with plenty of choice for the family.
Evening entertainment was excellent for young children with a kids disco. Adult entertainment was ok with different acts every night. Bar prices for drinks etc were reasonable.
The rooms were cleaned very well every day with clean towels, beds made, floors mopped etc.
La Pineda is a nice quiet resort. The hotel is situated at the quieter end of La Pineda and there is only a few bars, shops and restaurants.
