Marriott Residence Inn

I've vacationed at the I-Drive location several times over the years and find it to always be a GREAT stay! Staff is always pleasant and helpful. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Good central location and a pretty good breakfast to start the day. Don't have champagne taste on beer money... It's not an overly expensive place to stay.

Given the mixed reviews, we arrived with some trepidation - which was not removed by the cramped lobby area, kids playing on arcade machines and a guy drinking beer from a bottle while leaning on the registration counter. Our "penthouse" suite looked old and tired, and the fridge made more noise than a small power plant. But in Camp Grenada style, things looked better in the morning. I brought my family of eight to stay in Orlando for 6 nights. When we arrived the staff was overly friendly and excited about our stay. They were extremely helpful to us and answered all our questions. We stayed in the penthouse that slept 8. We had plenty of room for all of us. The rooms were very clean and very well-kept. It is not old looking at all. I was very impressed! Breakfast was wonderful and the staff was friendly, even early in the morning. Not up to Marriott quality in my opinion. This is most likely one of the oldest Residence Inns in the country and is in dire need of a total remodeling inside and out. The studio suite I stayed in had frayed carpets and worn furniture, lamp shades were yellowing from age as was the light fixture panel in the kitchen. I didn't like that the entrance opened directly to the parking lot which didn't make me feel secure. We didn't get our money's worth. Despite our paying a very low price through the major internet 'bid' site that a well known actor promotes , we didn't feel this old hotel was a good deal after spending 5 nights there. Its across the street from what looks like an abandoned strip mall and its a long walk to International Drive which is the main strip with all the stores and restaurants. First time to Orlando and my travel agent booked me and my family here. We were not impressed with this Residence Inn at all and didn't think it was worth the money we paid. It looks old and our suite needed remodeling. Security wasn't too good, either. On our first day there we were approached by a vagrant right on our doorstep asking for money. Some associates and I stayed here during a recent conference and found this Residence Inn well below the usual standards for this brand. Colleagues of ours stayed at a couple of nearby Residence Inns that were much newer and nicer, with inside hallways and elevators. Our Residence Inn International Drive, we were told. was nearly 30 years old and the buildings weren't well maintained or secure from trespassers walking in off the adjacent roads. I figure I have been lurking on this site for quite a while and wanted to share my input on hotels I've stayed at. This is a great hotel for the Universal Area. I stayed with 2 other friends (we all are in our mid twenties) and had a "Penthouse" room. It had a King bed upstairs and two doubles down stairs. It had a small kitchen and 2 baths. I have stayed at this hotel several times and have enjoyed it. The two bedroom suites are extremely comfortable if you go to Orlando with a big group. They have a large bedroom and bath downstairs, another bedroom with bath upstairs, good closet space and a large living/dining/kitchen area with sleep sofa. The hotel can arrange transport to the parks and attraction tickets. The location is handy and the service was fine when I stayed there. Not quite at Disney standards but very comfortable.

I recently stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott on Canada Drive (just off of International Drive). The facility offered half price tickets but forgot to advertise the caveat that it required a 3 hour timeshare presentation. My room was vandalized the second day. Trying to speak with the GM Jim Taylor was nearly impossible. It took him 5 days to return my calls. Don't make the mistake of believing this facility is of "Marriott quality." It is not.
