HOliday from hell
from Jinny42
I went to salou in June. I booked my flights on the internet directly with Aerlingus and decided I would book my hotel with Holiday Hotels.com. I picked the Best Los Angeles hotel which was all inclusive. I will never forget my experience. The beds were hard, the food was terrible and there was a small miserable pool at the side of the hotel. When you went up to the bar for a snack or a drink you were left standing there for ages. The bar staff were very rude and made you feel like you were getting things for nothing. I paid €960 for one week for accommodation for myself, husband and son who is 11. There was no entertainment for my son during the day and he get very bored. After two days we couldnt stand the food any longer and ate outside of the hotel. When we were there a woman fell over the disabled ramp and broke her leg. This ramp is very dangerous and does not have adaquite bars to assist the person using it. She spent €500 on hospital bills and the hotel left her to her own devices. Overall this was the worst hotel I ever stayed in and would never go back again.
Best Hotel - Don't think so....

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the best Los Angeles Hotel in Salou during September. Here is our review Food Although we had booked a late deal and it didn't cost us allot of money we did expect to get a bit more for our money. We were all inclusive which meant we got all drinks and meals. We had breakfast 1 day which was ok. We mostly got up later and went to chippies restaurant around the corner and ate a big breakfast which was great for only around €4. We never had lunch at the hotel, we went in there 1 day to try it and there was rabbit. That was enough to put us off. It looked pretty much like what they served up for dinner. At dinner as far as I could work out there was only a 1 hour slot allocated for all people staying at the hotel. We tried eating at different times within the hour but the queues were always long. The food was ok, defenitely worth checking out what the cook at the back of the room is cooking as this was where the best food was. Room The rooms were quite good small but its not like you spend allot of time in the hotel room when you are away. Rooms were cleaned every day and to a high standard. There was quite allot of noise at night from the Irish and karaoke bars opposite the hotel. Pool Area There were 2 pools the one on the right side of the hotel as you face it was the best/ got most of the sun that side. Only thing was you had to walk over to the bar if you wanted a drink. There weren’t very many sun beds and some of them were cracked down the middle. Staff I think the staff should make your holiday special and make you feel welcome. The staff at the Best Los Angeles did not. Most were miserable and hardly acknowledged you. The reception staff were ok although we only had to deal with them on checking in and out. Bar staff were by far the worst. They would only serve you if you were a woman and left men waiting for about 10 minutes for a drink! also once 12 came they were tidying up around you and turning the lights off wanting you to leave the bar, I don't think thats very good when most people were quite happy to sit there and finish their drinks they had brought before closing time Entertainment Only night we really stayed in for entertainment was when we didn't want to go out because of the storms. The entertainment wasn't too bad but was more for children and didn't start until 9. Salou I would recommend Salou although not really that much to do. There are plenty of shops restaurants and bars though and I would recommend the road train only €1.50 for over and hour and half’s trip.
Hated the Hotel

Just returned from four days at the Hotel Los Angeles. Food was of a very poor standard and the queues for food were tiresome - the plates were saucer size. I have stayed at this hotel in the past and it has certainly gone downhill - I think Best Hotels are trying to cut corners and save money. The size of the plates, standard of food, entertainment being only a loud projector music video screen, the air conditioning and outside lighting only working on 'certain days'. In addition we were there when the storms came - the balcony soon filled up and poured through the poor standard patio doors into the room! I also think there has been a change of staff as this time they were reluctant to help if not downright rude. However, the worst problem was the NOISE at night. We were on the 5th floor overlooking the back of the property - every night from about 11am to 6am you could hear music, singing, yobs cheering and car horns! I got no sleep at all for 2 nights! I loved Salou and this hotel in the past but would never stay again - you have been warned.
good relaxing holiday

we have just got back from a week in los angeles hotel.i found the hotel lovely and clean, there was always a lot of food.the pool was a bit small but there were 2 and the beach is only 5 mins away that was excellent so clean and the sand was golden.the rooms were ok (lets face it you dont go on holiday to stay in your room),the staff were nice and the rooms were cleaned every day.the drinks are reasonably priced.salou is a very lively place lots of bar and clubs till 5.30am.we went to barcelona for a week first now if you have only thought about going there and never have you should it is a brilliant place so much to do and see we were busy for the hole week thats why we went there first then to salou to relax.our choices were excellent we had a great holiday in both places.

I have just returned from the above hotel and with regards to the other reviews i had no problems with the hotel what so ever. The only one complaint i could have would be the view from the room,it overlooks another residential apartment block which is a bit un sightly but staff were very good food wasplentifull could be a bit hotter and the drinks were fine. I stayed all inclusive and would reccomend that option due to drinks at the bar were expensive but apart from that i had a real good relaxing time
Stay at Port Salou!!!!

Thankfully returned yesterday from this debarcle of a hotel. I went with an open mind having read previous comments. Where shall I start rooms; basic as they come pointless having TV all spanish, shower broken and although this was promised by the hotel to be fixed - never happened! Food bland, tasteless and ALWAYS cold! Ah but there are 2 microwaves in the restaurant so we can warm our meals WRONG as neither worked. The buffet was forever running out of food and took a lifetime to be restocked! Entertainement. What entertainement???? As this hotel is (and don't let anyone tell you different) predominantly accommodating for Spanish you'll soon get used to the consistent whaling and hand clapping as some 5'1" flamenco dancer stamps his size 2's all over the room WITHOUT MUSIC! No english entertainment whatsoever and when it wasn't flamenco it was [--] line dancing to spanish music not C&W... see how those over 80's step!!! Only the one bar and the service was diabolical, slow service and if a spaniard arrives at the bar after you believe me they will get served first, we kept getting or at least they attempted to charge us for drinkks (local brew etc) and we were all inclusive!!! Friends of ours stayed at the Port Salou absolutely excellent GO THERE!!!!!!! Oh and if this has'nt put you off and you decide to go if you see Juan the head bar tender [--]!
Good holiday!

Have just read the review of the people who went in 2004 who said all that terrible stuff - how untrue!!! Although not the nicest place I have stayed in some of the things that were said are so untrue. There was never an issue with food being covered in flies - was ALWAYS well presented with NO flies or any other kind of bug anywhere near it!!!! In fact there were no flies or bugs seen in the restaurnt or our rooms in the hwole week we were there. I also have a problem with the comments about staff not speaking English - they did!! No entertainment - there was entertainment in the hotel about 3/4 nights and there were shows/ bars/ comedians/ clubs etc all over the resort!! The comment about the shops being full of the same junk - Ummmm, it's a commercial tourist area what do you really expect!!!??? Anyway, thats enough of my rant!! Basically it was a nice holiday, the rooms basic but very big, lovely bar in hotel selling every drink imaginable. Restaurant lovely, really nice food but a bit repetitive. The kids club seemed really good too although we had no children in our group. The location isnt great for a quiet time as there are clubs and bars opposite the hotel but we didn find this much of a problem even on the nights we stayed in. All in all a good holiday, mots of the staff were great, except maybe one of the receptionists!!! If you go have fun!!!! Hope this is of help!!
lovely place

Stayed at this hotel as a birthday suprise. On arrival staff very friendly as plane was delayed so we were rushed to resturant as it was closing. Rooms very basic and clean not a very good view as our balcony looked out to a massive firtree. Hotel very noisey at night kids running around up and down corridors inconsiderate parents shouting. The noise from the street people returning from nightclubs shouting out at 3 4 5 6 in the morning terrible. Salou is a lovely place but the location of this hotel is not good if you want to get away for a rest
A honest review

My girlfriend and myself have just returned from a week away in Salou where we stayed at the 'Best Los Angeles' hotel. I feel I should write this review in hope that it would be useful to others in future as I used this site previous to check out the status of the hotel. I booked a cheap holiday because I needed some time away and took the cheapest deal. When I got the paperwork through it stated I was staying at the 'Best Los Angeles' hotel so decided to do some research and find out what it was like. I used this website and was horrified when I read the review from June 2005 by Mrs K Smart. Anyway, we got to the hotel and had no problems checking in. The hotel uses a keycard system for the rooms instead of keys which is ideal if you're carrying a wallet as the card can sit right in. The room itself was very spacious with a balcony and ensuite bathroom. There is also a TV in the room although it is mainly programmed to Spanish channels (except CNN). The air conditioning is fantastic!!! The only bad point about the room was that there was only 1 plug socket which was occupied by the tv so when using hairdryers, stereos, hair straightners etc then it can be quite difficult, I would reccommend taking an adaptor to allow for you to have more electrical equipment plugged in. There is also no facilities to make yourself a cup of tea or coffee in your room. The room was cleaned daily and we were given fresh towels so there was no complaints with that. The food at the hotel was brilliant, I would say it's the best i've ever had whilst being abroad. For breakfast, there's the usual variety that you get in Spain but there's also a chef who will fry your egg's especially for you and he also makes pancakes every morning. On an evening the food was always different but always very nice! The staff at the hotel were fantastic, they made us feel welcome and were very helpful whenever we required anything. Every member of staff we approached could speak English and understood what we were saying. The main thing about the hotel that I didn't like was the pool area. It is very small and doesn't attract that much sunlight so we found it easier to go to the beach which is only a 5-10 minute walk. There is also some noise on an evening as there's a couple of bars over the road but as we were up late then this didn't effect us in any way. I would also point out that you can hear a lot of noise in your room from around other parts of the hotel which I suppose if you go to bed early then this could be annoying! But like I said, for my girlfriend and I, this wasn't a problem. The resort of Salou is nice, the weather was great and there was plenty for us to do. We visited Port Aventura which was a really good day out, very enjoyable! There's also the waterpark which is next door. The resort is family orientated so there wasn't as much for us as a couple to do on an evening, there was too many kids for our liking!!! There's also lots of people handing out flyers for the various bars and nightclubs. Overall we had a brilliant time, the hotel was great for us and we had a great time at the resort. I would say that Salou is more of a family or group holiday rather than for couples but I would definitely go again in the future and I would reccommend the 'Best Los Angeles' hotel.

We stayed at the hotel in august 2004,there was 11 of us aged from 14 to 40 so we thought we would have a great time lots to do for all of us,ye right. We had to walk to the hotel after being dropped of around the corner, the staff didnt understand us,took ages to book in,had to wait for the lift to be fixed to go to our rooms.Rooms if that what you called them i would of said pig styes. There was nothing to make a brew,no plug sockets only one which the tele plugged into, the floors were filthy,we had dirty fet all the time, the view from the loose balcony was lovely trees. The air conditioning never worked the two weeks we were there, tried to get it fixed, never sent anyone. The rep when we she could be bothered to turn up wasnt interested in anything you had to say couldnt do her job infact didnt know how to do her job properly. We complained about the food which was the same all the time, never covered full of flies, the staff in the restaurant were very ignorant,we complained about the rooms and asked to be moved but there was a charge, but couldnt afford to move, wasnt paying out again. The large beach at salou was ok,but the small one forget it,its fillthy. The shops are all the same full of crap. All the time we were there we couldnt find any decent night life, you have to eat out or go to a club nothing else. The kids were ok they had tickets to the theme park, they spent their two weeks there day and night.Entertainment for adults im affraid there is nothing. We would never recommend the hotel or salou to our worst enemy.
I went to the Best Hotels Los angeles with a school trip and it does not deserve the name!! When we got there late to book in,our rooms werent ready and wen we eventually got in it looked like the extra time waiting to get in didnt make a difference! The rooms are ok if u... more
