Beach Club Torremolinos Reviews
" I returned from the Torremolinos... "
Submitted By: Mrs A Carter & MathewWHAT A MISTAKE! On the third day I had "the bug" and was really ill - I won't go into detail of the symptoms. We both used the blue hand wipes handed out at the door of the restaurant and so all I can assume is that the food preparation is at fault.
The dining room is large and bright but when the kitchen doors swing open the lighting is murky and grey which I thought was disturbing. My grandson ate "junk food" all week and was absolutely fine. So obviously the cold table preparation needs to be seriously looked at.
As you can imagine, it was very difficult looking after a 4 year old when you are ill, thank goodness for Cbeebies on the television. Seriously, I was ill for 3 days and on returning home I find that I have lost 5 pounds in weight.
On other holidays I may have had the odd tummy upset but nothing ever like this. I urge anyone thinking of going to this hotel to be very careful as if you get ill, it will spoil your whole holiday.

Submitted By: Mr W HeathcoteThe drinks are good with good measures on the spirits, but the local beer ain't brill ok for a few then you need to go on the shorts.
Entertainment ain’t too bad if you like bingo and pub singers.
The beach is a stones throw away so grab a free drink from bar and take with you on to beach,
there is a gate you go through from the pool to the beach and you need code (2344) to get back in. Reason I have put the code is because we wasn’t told by reception we had to find out ourselves. When you go out gate turn right and walk up to lots of restaurants, bars and shops that head to Torremolinos and Benalmedina.
At least 4 of us did get this so called bug that is associated with hotel (sickness and trots but only lasted 24 hours, I was soon tucking back into the food and booze).
The 2 pools are big and we got sunbed ok. No Germans reserving beds here ha ha.
Would go again and it is very close to Malaga airport we paid between 18 and 20 euros for taxi.
There are a lot of activities going on as well from air rifle shooting to water polo and a lot for kids to do, but take a few euro coins for the pool tables.
There are 4 lifts but very small and we were on 10th floor so had to wait a while for a lift to reach us because of other people going to different floors.
The rooms are reasonable in size, cleaned and towels changed every day with friendly staff.
There is air conditioning (free) and a safe in room at a cost of 2.5 euros a day.
Hope this review has helped a few people out.

Submitted By: Mrs M WrightWe had a big family room on the fourth floor which was cleaned every day by very pleasant cleaning staff.
The food was nice enough although not a lot for vegetarians, but I did mention this. I can understand the food being a bit boring after a week, but I think they did their very best in trying to be varied.
I never felt claustrophobic in the restaurant like I thought I would, as there are two aisles that you can obtain food plus there are a lot of tables in the restaurant as well as wide eating times.
As a large family, 2 adults, 2 children and 1 infant I was concerned that with children eating a bit of absolutely everything they may fall ill. But thankfully not one of us did.
The children enjoyed the entertainment more than us adults did and I would have liked a carpeted area for my baby to crawl - but I can’t have everything!
Overall I would recommend this hotel. The majority of staff were friendly and the hotel was kept as clean as they could.
The boring bits are the beds by the pool are reserved very early and the lifts are rather small making it difficult to get in a lift straight away at rush hour with a pram! But we survived and enjoyed it and would definitely go again.

Submitted By: Mrs J SchofiledA very quick transfer from Malaga airport, very impressed with size of hotel and reception area.
Hotel Room - small and basic, 3 single beds, 2 pushed together to make a double if prefered, bedside tables, lamps, wardrobe, dressing table with large mirror, small balcony with 2 chairs and a table, bathroom comprised of sink, loo, bath/shower and bidet, complimentary soap and sanitiser availiable.
We stayed on the 8th floor, room 808(10 floors in total) - did do the stairs once not too bad going down but a killer going up!
Restaurant - no swimwear and disinfectant wipes given on entering.
Breakfast was served from 8.30 and a wide variety of food availiable, including cereal, toast, crossiants, full english, fresh fruit plus much more, drinks included tea/coffee/juice/water.
Lunch was served from 1.00 or 1.30 and again a wide choice of dishes including pasta, pizza, paella, fish dishes, meats, freshly baked bread, salad, soup, chips, sausage etc...
Tea was served from 6.30 and this was again a full range of food also including chops, chicken, beef, salmon etc.... a real variety of food however seemed to be quite similar during the week and could get a bit boring but you will not go hungry.
Drinks for both lunch and tea were tea/coffee/juice/fizzy pop/red and white wine/beer/sangria or water.
Desserts - fantastic range of sweets/cakes and puddings, icecream and all very well displayed.
The waiters and waitresses are all very friendly and keep the resturant spotless.
Close to reception are the TV Room, payphones, shop, reps, lifts, games rooms and the piano bar, just off here is the resturant and steps leading to the magnum bar, terrace and pool area.
People are up very early reserving sunbeds around the pools however there is plenty of chairs availiable on the terrace. Pool area is kept clean and also there is a small shop. The Magnum bar supplies refreshments both alcoholic and non alcoholic and ice cream.
Along from the terrace is the Kidzone - which I totally recommend for 2 hours of peace a day (ex Thurs) and there is 2 evening slots availiable too at a 2 Euro charge, this is very safe and secure and the staff are brill, especially "Kool Kat".
Fantastic evening entertainment including kids disco, karaoke - which is run by 2 ladies, Lucy is excellent with the kiddies! magic shows, reptile show, westlife tribute, circus, singers and 2 games of bingo of an evening with prizes for a line and the a full house.
An excellent holiday and family orientated hotel. Excellent trips provided by Thomsons - recommend Gibraltar - what a excellent day!!
Now to mention the lower points of the holiday, we arrived on the Friday evening and on the Sunday night I fell ill with vomiting and diarrohea this lasted 24 hours and was truly awful - I couldn't even keep water down. I heard of a few people having the same sickness bug but not lasting longer than 24 hours or needing a Doctor - however a doctor was availiable at the hotel daily at 9.30am.
My son and my husband were both totally fine all week, I do not drink alcohol so it was not due to that, I think that I tried a lot of new foods including fish dishes and maybe had a touch of sunstroke - however just be warned, I was reluctant to think that there was a bug at the hotel as it was so impressive however I did fall ill for 24 hours.
A truly excellent hotel and top class entertainment definately 8.5 out of 10

Submitted By: Mr A JonesDirty hotel. Poor entertainment. Food was horrible and the same every other day, plus its true about the other reviews, lots of people were ill when we went. nothing
I went for a week in June 2006, and if it hadn’t been for the World Cup being on it would have been allot worse!

Submitted By: Mr R MillerBeing honest with you I would say you have to keep in mind that it is a 3 star hotel. So don’t expect the fanfare when you arrive but the staff are always kind and helpful and the food is ok. Apart from the sausages.
I used to love getting my breakfast in the morning but this year I don’t know where they got the sausages from but they were horrible. The rest of the food is a wide and varied choice which I heard some people complain about.
Rooms cleaned every day and pools were spotless so no hang ups.
Please be aware of the pickpockets.
Overall the hotel is absolutely fine the activities are good and the alcohol is ok. It's just a pity about them damn sausages (lol).

Submitted By: Mrs L J TURNER8 out of 12 of us caught a bug - my hubby, my boys and I all had it. We told our rep but she didn’t want to know really.
The beach was really nice but we wouldn’t go there again. In the other reviews, some say you only get sick if you stuff yourselves - it isn’t true. We aren’t big eaters.
Apart from that, the swimming pool and the entertainment were good. Wouldn’t go to Torremolinos again.

Submitted By: Mr D FitzmauriceOne evening I observed a chef cooking raw fish, he placed it on grill walked away, stirred cooked food, took a coke from dispenser, stood beside antibacterial wipes talking to waiter, went back to fish and carried on cooking. He never washed hands or used antibacterial wipes. They have a haccp cert displayed; its one thing having it, its another maintaing it. I told the Thomson’s rep of my concerns and she fobbed us off with lies of a bug on the coast. People we spoke to outside the hotel in bars, cafes etc. had not heard of bug on the coast. The hotel manager also denied our concerns.

Submitted By: DAEHWDUNNGood selection of food and drinks. Hotel had views over the sea, there is an annexe over the small road this is lovely to stay in too!
About 5 minute walk being the hotel you can catch a train to other resorts and the town centre where there is a great selection of shops, and you can depart the train further on and walk straight to the market.
I would definitely recommend a day to Gibraltar to see the Barbary apes and caves fantastic.

Submitted By: crocketford4We were allocated a family room on the 5th floor, we approached reception to see if we could get a first floor one because my son has a phobia about lifts and they were really good and accommodated us straight away.
The rooms were lovely, clean and quite spacious. The best family room yet we have stayed in, we all had our own comfortable bed. A TV was a bonus and the bathroom was beautiful. The corridors of this hotel are thickly carpeted which meant if you wished to go to bed a little earlier you were not disturbed by noisy feet later on, this is the first hotel where I can say that we didn’t stay up later than we wanted because we knew we could actually go to bed and get to sleep. Excellent.
Food superb, my boys especially liked the pizza 'shop' in the corner of restaurant who served up freshly cooked pizza, lunchtime and teatime. Wide range of fish, meats each day plus wonderful selection of salad.
Pool really lovely, although a little chilly but the indoor pool was a hit with the boys also. Play park not brilliant but I suppose would be ok for tots.
The entertainment during day was ok, and evening entertainment really good although the children’s disco only lasted 30 minutes which was a shame.
All in all a really good hotel for a 3*.

Submitted By: M SmithOn arrival I we found the room spotless, bathroom although a little dated was beautifully clean too. The rooms were cleaned daily (thoroughly with bleach) and clean towels every day.
The food I have to day wasn't too good, in fact we only ate in the hotel on a few occasions, (very nice Chinese just round the corner and very cheap!) But maybe we are just a bit fussy. The food was more or less the same thing each day, but there was a variety.
My main complaint was that I like my food piping hot and this wasn't. I was also a bit dubious about the sausages and beans that seemed to be there morning, noon and night (my advise skip them!) Having said that the cakes and deserts were fab! And my hubby was pleased that he could have cheese on toast at midnight to soak up the alcohol!
We were not ill once, whether we were just lucky I don't know, although we didn't hear of anyone being ill and there was never any sign of anyone waiting to see the doctor who comes every day. Is it maybe that some overindulge?
We sat most nights in the piano bar and people watched - it’s amazing how much booze and mixtures some people pack away - I honestly don't think there is anything wrong with this hotel. Yes the food could be better (but at the end of the day you get what you pay for and this isn't a 5 star hotel).
Yes it’s a little further out of the town than some, but it is very flat (loads of disabled people there while we stayed there) so walk into centre is ok (we never got the bus into the centre once) didn’t use the pool as my hubby and daughter won't swim so I cannot comment on that or the sunbed situation.
Not too sure about the entertainment, did go to the Magnum bar once or twice but you have to get through the bingo first and karaoke! But if that's your thing you'll love it!
We used this hotel as a base going out and about each day, so I have no complaints about it, we paid more to go s /catering in Benalmadena last year, - so even if we didn't eat much just using it for drinks etc made it worthwhile.
I would recommend it to anyone like ourselves on a budget and just wants a 'base' and who doesn't mind a walk into to town.
" Fantastic! The hotel is very clean... "
Submitted By: Miss M WildGood entertainment, good food, nice pool area, what more do people want?
I have been to this hotel several times and have never seen or heard of anybody being ill! I think if people eat less and drank less the problem if any would disappear!
Most all-inclusive hotels are a little out the way, but this hotel is close to the train station and a bus passes through every 30 mins.
Looking forward to our next visit.

Submitted By: Mrs J A Mckeownhe hotel was wonderful and very clean, the maid was in every day with clean towels and bedding, and the bathroom was washed over.
The staff were just so nice, they all spoke English and were so helpful, and friendly it just made my holiday. My room was basic but with a great view of the beach the drinks were good and the food wasn’t as bad as I thought after reading some reviews.
Breakfast was an English, French, cereal etc... And even champers and fruit! Lunch/evening meals were a selection of meals usually an option of "kid’s food" chips etc. Or veg and fresh fish or seafood, pastas and homemade pizza so much choice and deserts (don’t get me started) amazing cakes and puddings, something for everyone.
I would recommend this hotel if you are on a budget we will definitely be returning.
The beach wasn’t the best, the travel agent assured me it was a great beach (fibber). It was very stony and had the consistency of mud often quite a dirty beach (wrappers and bottles).
Out of the hotel take a right if you want to go into town and if you go left there isn’t much just a nudist beach.
We took the trip to Gibraltar, well worth it a great day out. The Thomson rep out there was great so the rep meeting is a must.
My grumbles were jet2 delaying my flight home by 5 hours till 2am, Newcastle airport not having any steps for us to get off the plane (a further 20 mins wasted), no baggage for a further 40 mins and a very unhelpful airport man who didn’t realise we had all been awake 24 hours!
Then Thomson conning me into purchasing prebooked Taxis £50, our taxi not coming and then when it did the driver demanding a further 17euros! Will keep you posted on my refunds!
The hotel 10/10
The beach 3/10
Thompson 5/10 (it was cheap)
Jet2 5/10 also cheap

We were there October 2006 and we went with a party of 7 adults and 5 of us were ill with this bug, they said then the bug was all over the Costa del Sol. This year in October 2007 we went in a party of 6 adults and 3 children, and again 7 of us went down with this bug. And speaking to other guest staying at the same hotel I was amazed how many people went down with it. We feel the hotel needs to close down for a week and give it a thorough clean, including a good coat of paint in some areas, and refurbishing including the air conditioning which needs servicing.
We feel we will give this hotel a miss for a few years, which is a shame because as I pointed at the beginning of my comment the hotel staff in general are excellent and very helpful, and the entertainment is first class. And not forgetting the chamber maids they do a fantastic Job. I will keep looking at other people reviews and hope it will improve in the near future.
