We have stayed at the Hesperia Sabinal many times and it is our favourite hotel in Roquetas.
The hotel's location is fantastic, just beside the beach, with stunning views if you have a sea view room, looking out over the Bay of Almeria.
The staff are friendly and there is a happy hour twice a day and the rooms are very comfortable and spacious.
The food is good, with a nice choice of meat, fish or vegetarian, and you can eat as much as you can.
It does seem to cater more for older people, but then it is fairly quiet and peaceful, which is a good thing, we are looking forward to going to the Sabinal again in September, can't wait.

The Hotel Hesperia Sabinal is Fantastic.First time going to this hotel and we're returning again this year. The hotel is right on the sea front. If you have a sea view room, like we did, you will really enjoy your stay. The restaurant was good, food choice was always excellent. Roomns were of good size and the balcony was nice too, especially for sitting out listening to the sea. The bar had entertainment and the Happy Hour meant that you could order one drink and get two for the same price. Reception were also very helpful. If you want to book a trip through the rep, the Sierra Nevada is fabulous. A whole day of travelling around the mountains looking at monuments, old towns, pottery factories and much more. A brilliant Holiday in every aspect!
- Advice: Best hotel we've visited in Spain!

We have stayed at the Sabinal, for 9 years. We always look foreward to arriving there. The staff rarely leave &are very familiar to us.As we are getting older,we telephone ahead, about two weeks before our holiday to ask for a lower floor room to be allocated to us.We then use the staires&do not have to wait for the lifts. The rooms are clean and the maids very helpful to us.The food is not as good as it used to be but not bad.WE object to Toni standing by the back gate selling tickets for his sun beds,it seems an unfare advantage,we prefer to have a stroll along the front and decide where to go ouselves. Its very flat everywere,we can take long walks along the front. The guests are mostly Spanish, which we like.It gives the hotel a friendly Spanish atmosphere.Being creatures of habit,we walk round the local shops.in the & then walk afew yards along the front to the Boulevarde _always ajoy.A scottish couple run the bar, play live music,we sing along loudly.into the small hours. The food is lovely&well priced. My sister& i walk around quite late in the evening and have never had any problems.Give it try.Youwill return.

I am fourty six years old and I have been going on holidays for years and years, and I have to say the Hesperia Sabinal is the best hotel i have stayed at!! The staff are friendly, the rooms are nice with stunning views and the hotel is very clean. The food was lovely and I looked forward to it each night. The hotel is on the beachfront and that particular beach was stunning. It had clear blue sea and georgeous sand. The hotel is extremely child friendly and has a fun area with bouncy castles and trampolines etc. I took my eleven year old and fifteen year old and they enjoyed it with all their hearts. The staff were absolutely lovely and we made friends with lots of them. They often put on shows down at the pool almost every night for us to enjoy. The rooms were cleaned regulary and the bathrooms were modern. The balconies were reasonably spacious. There were lots of bars and resteraunts around. Roquetas De Mar has a lovely atmosphere and everybody around is happy. The area has beautiful views of mountains. The temperature was lovely and hot with a nice breeze. It is bearable for young children too. I will definitely be going back to The Sabinal next year and the family and I are looking forward to it very much. It is a hotel for all ages and people. It is a good family place, but is suitable for couples too. I recommend it to all who would like a fun but relaxing break. Thanks, Leanne.
- Advice: Love Roquetas; already booked next years holiday! The best place i've ever been too.
- Activities: The beach was lovely and the resteraunts too.

I just wanted to add my opinion on the Hesperia Sabinal.
Fistly let me say i was a rep in roquetas 2003-2004 and i had the pleasure to work within the hotel.
and after reading some of the comments i feel i have to add my own. the lady who was commenting on the fact the hotel is not a 4* because of the restrictions for disabled access to dining area and the fact that they had to pay for sunbeds, the dining area is large but so is the sabinal and for general health and safety they do have to take care when deciding how many wheelchairs etc are in the dining room at one time, also the sun beds...they are outside the property and not owned by the hotel so if you are charged fair enough don't blame the hotel!!! the hotel staff are always very polite and helpful even though some of them do not speak great english they wil always try to assist, and alot of the british people who go to roquetas will realise that for a change it is not a british style resort and infact we brits only make up about 15% of the tourists there, so why should the entertainment and shows be totally catered for to satisfy brits, for alot of people alot of the attraction for staying in somewhere like roquetas is to get away from the brits abroad hangouts like benidorm and majorca and for alot of people this is a chance to samole a small taste of a very clean, very nice and quite a family friendly type of resort.
Try roquetas, try the sabinal, go out and goet some tapas intead of searching for the nearest McDonalds or where you can watch sky sports to see all your home comforts, if you wanna go abroad and watch eastenders, corrie, deal or no deal go to Benidorm.

Just returned from the Hotel Sabinal, It is stated as a 4 star Hotel, it is far from 4 star I would say just 3 star at best. The dinning room is like a works canteen infact I have eaten at better works canteens. The food was poor the presentation evan worse on one day we were there a pork joint was being carved and there was blood running out as it was being sliced, it was replaced and the fresh joint was placed on the same board containing the previous meats blood. The staff were ignorant could never say please or thank you If you are looking for a good 4star hotel give this one a wide birth.

ok so it was a wheelchair friendly hotel but I do think there should be a limit on how many should be allowed, especially in the dining room. The food was at times unedible and the staffs uniform leaves a lot to be desired . The price of water was exstortionate 1.70 a small bottle. The sunbeds a disgrace we had to repair one before use, this surely must be the last year for them. To have to pay for the beach beds was quite high especially if four of you used them for a fortnight as the pool area was to crowded. A rethink on the four star rating must be looked into. We looked on in envy at the other hotels in Roquettes de Mar.

We visited this hotel for two weeks in June 08, Reception staff was always very pleasant and helpful and check in was no problem at all.
We had two rooms on the 7th floor which is the highest level. We were offered a room upgrade but didn't take this. One of our rooms was standard twin bed and the other was a family room having two double beds and a single for three people.
One room the maids kept spotlessly clean and changed the towels and bedding regularly but the family room however was not cleaned as well or bedding changed. One bed did not have the sheets changed at all during our stay, yet it was the same maids.
Staff in the restaurant were always pleasant. Food became rather boring after two weeks, nice to have waffles at breakfast but have had better food at other hotels.
Outdoor amenities let this hotel down, sunbeds old and needing recovering. Childrens play area small, neglected and quite dangerous. Swimming pool large but only a quarter of it being used as the rest was so very deep.
Beach was very clean but the sand was not very nice, painful to the feet! Sunbeds on the beach we used Toni's and they were very comfortable.
During our second week the hotel came to life music was played outside by the pool during the day and the entertainment team organised games etc. Maybe this was due to the weather getting much hotter and there was also a lot more British people in the hotel including many families.
We did not stay in the hotel so can not comment on the evening entertainment.
Most evenings we spent at Theo's bar which is nearby, this is a family bar where everyone is made very welcome. They have kareoke most evenings and include the children. Bar staff were great and price of drinks were very reasonable. We enjoyed Dermot and Mikey's entertainment and would definately go back to this bar.
Boulevard on the seafront was great for lunchtime snacks again children made very welcome.
If in this resort again we would definately stay at this hotel, brilliant location right on the seafront.

we travelled in a group of 6. 5 women and 1 male. obviously with it being a few years ago cant remember incomplete detail but i can remember that the hotel was large clean and comfortable. food was varied and always plentiful. and the poo side bar serving adaquate food. bars in hotel well stocked but bars along sea front are a must visit. if i remember rightly there was a very lively irish bar a few mins walk down the beach which was buzzing.. with beach being just over the walk and the pool at your feet for a relaxing week away doing nothing i would recommend it.

Myself and my husband stayed at the Sabinal last July for 2 weeks and what a great relaxing time we had. We decided to treat ourselves to a superior room with a sea view as my husband had a major operation last March donating his kidney to his son. We were both ready for a well earned holiday and the Sabinal met all of our expectations. The food was brilliant, we couldn't complain with a wide variety of food to choose from. Our room was lovely and clean and the staff were polite and friendly.
We enjoyed it so much that we are looking forward to our stay again this July for our 2 week holiday at the Sabinal.
I was suprised to read some of the comments from visitors staying at the hotel only rating it 4 out of 10.
We were very pleased with out holiday. Can't wait to go back!

First time visitors to Spain and to this resort and hotel which was recommended by friends. It was hot, dry and sunny, with a warm wind blowing in off the sea all week. The hotel was just about full. The hotel was fine, our room on second floor with sea view was comfortable, the food was excellent, a good choice including veggie. There is a sauna, steam room, spa, etc which was under used but at 4Euro good value and it was staffed by a very pleasant young lady. The swimming pool was freezing and again, under used. However, other aspects are less pleasing. The staff are professional but have no customer service skills. The 'entertainment' each evening, catered for one clear element of the guests, namely the pensioners. Keyboards, with or without a singer, bingo before Flamenco Dancers and ALL in Spanish for the Spanish. What a let down. The customer base was say 70 % pensioners and that was refelected in the hotel's attitude.
The resort is flat, ideal for walking. One direction to the port and town of Roquetas and the other to various bars, hotels and shopping areas. The bus service into Almeria via Grand Plaza Shopping Centre is cheap and frequent. The shops in the resort sell exactly the same. The organised trips were o.k. but it could be argued were expensive.
The RoquetasTrain is a good way of seeing the layout of the resort, the Moorish architecture and the plots of rubble and half built properties.
I doubt that this is an ideal place for families with youngsters and there is little for teens either. We are nowhere near pension age, but the age factor is something to be considered when thinking about this hotel and resort. BUT like anything else, it is always a personal choice. I accept that this is the start of the season and that things might improve or be different later on. I will be keen to read reviews later in the season.
