The room was clean, tidy and comfortable; the staff were friendly and helpful. The food however, was at best boring. Too bad such a lovely hotel with great other amenities is let down by the lack of imagination and thought to its menu. There is plenty of information... more

Lovely hotel
Just returned from 9 nights at this hotel. As you will be aware it is on a complex with 2 other sol hotels which makes it very big with plenty going on. Our room was for 3 adults which made it quite small but the room itself was spotless and cleaned what seemed to be every day. The room we had was facing the car park and when we asked if we could move to a pool view, it was not a problem and we were moved the next day. The room also had a TV which had 4 english channels to help keep in touch!!! The restaurant was excellent with lots of tables and lots of choices of meals. It would be no good complaining about the choice of foods when you go HB as you know the choices are pretty much the same but they do vary some over the days. All that said it was lovely and there was something for everyone, you would have to be fussy not to like anything and HB is probably not for you. The hotels shared pools with the other hotels so I think there was 7 or maybe more and also an indoor pool if you wanted it. Plenty of sunbeds for everyone although it was April so the demand was not the same as August but saying that we had 9 lovely sunny days. As it was our first time here we hired a car. We had some good days out and would recommend Gibraltar and Puerto Banus.
Average 3 Star accommodation but great facilities
We spent one night at the Don pedro last week after staying 3 nights at its sister hotel (same complex that also contains the Don Marco) the Don Pablo who couldn´t accommodate us for a sudden decision extra night. The downstairs lounge and bar areas were beautiful - well above 3 star standard - and both had log fires blazing that were more than welcome on a cold wet day in January! The bar and lounge was a lovely place to relax with a good book (small residents library of free books provided)on the only wet day of our stay. No pressure to buy drinks when sitting in bar lounge that was a welcome change from other hotels we have visited. The bedroom was markedly more basically furnished than at the Don Pablo and the bed decidedly soft and lumpy! Furniture basic but the whole room spotlessly clean and en suite bathroom obviously very recently refurbished so maybe they intend to start on the bedrooms soon. Great that you can use the facilities of all 3 hotels including heated indoor pool. Good entertainment in Don Pedro cabaret room each evening and no pressure to purchase drinks during the performance. On a negative note, we found the food to be less inviting than at the Don Pedro (surprising as the restaurant was being shared with 4 star guests staying at the Don Marco) and restaurant staff service appalling. ALL our crockery - from Soup Bowls to Dessert Bowls - was still on our table at the end of our meal. Drinks prices in restaurant though surprisingly good value with a bottle of drinkable house wine less than €8 a bottle (same brand less than €2 in local shop but you expect to pay more in hotel restaurant). We would return to the Don Pedro - but only if we couldn´t get accommodated in Don Pablo or Don Marco, or if they offered us a considerable reduction on other 2 hotel prices.
excellent hotel
we stayed at the hotel for our honeymoon and found a high level of cleanliness and service, ample choice of food at both breakfast and dinner with laid on entertainment and ample pools and jaccussi, our parents are coming to the hotel next april to stay on our recommendation
great value hotel
We had a full family short break in this hotel beginning of November. We had previously been in the Don Pablo a couple o times so were well used to the haigh Sol-Melia standards of service. We were not let down by the Don Pedro even if it is one star lower in the pecking order. You gets what you pays for. We booked three double rooms and were offered a special rate for half board, which was just unbeatable. Right from reception we were amazed at the standard of service, so someone is giving staff training a high priority. With so much choice now available to us punters, service has to be the ruler we use to rate our stay in any place of entertainment or hospitality. We did find the rooms to be a bit small for two adults and the bathrooms likewise. But hey, we do not spend much time indoors when there is so much to pull us outdoors. The decor of the dining room is a bit dismal when compared to the sumptious splendour of the Don Pablo, but again horses for courses, different market segments are catered for by three vs four stars, and there is no one size fits all solution. Overall we were amazed at the value for money which we got and would recommend this package to anyone looking for a comfy and strategically well located base on the Costa. At this price we could go out to dinner in one of the countless resort restaurants without feeling we were being reckless by missing a hotel meal already paid for. Two minutres to the beach,5 minutes to the airport as well, , what more could you want ?
What a dump! Run Away As Fast As You Can!
Checked into this hotel onthe basis that most Melia properties are decent. Boy was I wrong. This place is run down, dirty and poorly run. Rooms are tiny, bathrooms are adequate, AC in our room did not work property are the remote control to regulate was not available. When we requested one to be sent up, we were told they didn't have any and we should climb up on a chair or the desk to reach the controls. Also, upon check in we were given a room with 2 twin beds. We reserved a room with one large bed. After arguing with the staff, they moved us. The room that we were moved to was a "downgrade". The hotel refused to charge us the lower rate for the new room. Staff treats the guests no better than monkeys in the zoo. Take note that this is a NO SERVICE HOTEL. I guess you get what you pay for when you stay in a hotel that attracts a "certain type" of holiday maker. Swimming pools are small, crowded and don't resemble the photos on Melia's web site. I think they posted photos from another hotel instead of this hotels pools. Stay away from this place at all costs. If you are intent on going to Tormollenos and this is the only place available, don't go.
the food
Just returned from this hotel, the food was terrible, how many times can they reinvent cold rice pudding, and veal was dished up in every disguise, we began to see the pattern, one day reasonable the next was leftovers! Room was for three people so cramped that we had to climb over the beds to reach the balcony, and no kettle first hotel i have visited that was without? The staff were wavy nice and the place was spotless, but hey folks try and improve the food, remember there are not only germans to feed!
We loved it here
We've just returned from don pedro, where we had two weeks. We booked late and there weren't a lot of hotels with vacancies. We went for don pedro after reading the reviews on here. The majority were good with a couple of bad ones. I can only echo what most people say about the cleanliness and nice surroundings, it is set in very nice gardens, and it is kept spotless. You get full access to don pablo and don marco, which means you have access to 9 pools in all, and 2 jacuzzi's. There is evening entertainment in pedro which is indoor, and pablo outdoors. We tended to go for the outdoor option in the hot weather! There was a kids club, which the kids really enjoyed, and the staff were really enthusiastic. There were also other activities such as water polo, football, shooting, etc. There was not loads for the kids in the evening, there is a mini disco for them at 9 in don pedro which my 2 went to every night! One of the criticism's in previous reviews was the food. I could'nt fault it, there was plenty of variety, and not cold like some people had said. My 2 are fussy eaters, but had no trouble finding food they liked from the buffet. I would thoroughly recommend don pedro, and was very surprised it was 3 star and not 4, it seems worthy of 4 to me.
A first rate Hotel
My wife ad I stayed in the Sol Don Pedro for a week in May and both of us thought it was an excellent value for money hotel. We were on a half board basis and found the food at both breakfast and dinner to be plentiful and varied. It was also of excellent standard. The hotel is very clean and the staff are all helpful. The pool areas were good and never overcrowded. Our bedroom was smallish but adequately furnished and clean. The beds were made up every day and the towels changed similarly. Reception area and bars are large and airy so there is plenty of space for everyone to rest their feet and relax after a day on the beach or returning from a trip. Our opinion is that this hotel cannot be far short of a four star rating and we would highly recommend it. Hopefully we will ourselves return to sometime soon.
Super Don Pedro
Have just returned from three days from the superbly sunny Costal del Sol staying at the Sol Don Pedro with FlyGlobespan. Very comfortable hotel with pleasant staff. I don't understand some previous reviewers who didn't rate the food. We had super food, great choices at breakfast and dinner. Salads, soups, meat, fish, lovely veg, and great desserts. Ideally situated for the beach and wonderful chiringuito (beachside) restaurants where we had some marvellous lunches. The bar was very relaxing and friendly and there is a happy hour where you get two for the price of one. Also hotel very clean. We couldn't have wished for more.
Good, but could so easily be great
This hotel had so many good points, but they let themselves down with a some areas which for very little cost or effort could have been rectified. A pity, as it woluld otherwiise have been outstandingly good. Firstly the good points: a/ food excellent, although a little repetitive for 2 weeks. I really cant understand the Continentals fixation with veal though. Proper red mature beef wins every time for me. Wine prices in restaurant incredibly cheap. b/ Don Pedro is actully one of a complex of 3 hotels, with it's sister hotels the Don Marco and (4 star) Don Pablo. All the facilities are free to use for all hotel users, which mean that you get 4 start facilities at 3 star prices. e.g. 9 swimming/toddler pools, plus one indoor and heated, bowling greens, gymnasium, poolside Jacuzzi's. Outdoor pools were not advertised as heated, but were certainly less chilly than others I've seen. c/ Location right on beach front d/ staff very, very friendly and helpful Now the bad points a/ Rooms were cramped for any more than 2 people. (we were a family of 3) and could certainly do with some modern furnitiure, bedding etc. b/ No specific kids menu at restaurant. So if your kids are fussy eaters beware. c/ Animations team put on some hilarious (if not always intentionally!) acts in evening and sporting type events duiring the day. However, was a severe lack of anything specifically for younger kids. For example, early evening slots of party games, dancing etc would have made a huge difference. Also, although the animation teams own evening shows were good, some of the outside acts brought in were utterly and completely dire. d/ No kettle in room!! I've never stayed at another hotel anywhere who failed to provide this. We went out and bought one. e/ Torremelinos itself is a bit of a dump. So, overall good, but not better than that. I would recommend the neighbouring resort of Benalmedina. And stay away from Tivoli world theme park. It's decrepit, overpriced, outdated and downright dangerous.
